For those if you who are having browser lag issues, I found a fix for it. And No, it isn't flash.
1. Open the browser and type about:debug into the address box.
2. Press menu button and go to settings.
3. Scroll all the way down to the debug section.
4. Check "normal rendering"
This fixed it for me. It isn't perfectly smooth, but it is definitely better than before.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Normal rendering doesn't do anything except allow pages to render as they would on a desktop, instead of in mobile view.
1. In the browser's URL bar, type: about:debug and then hit GO. You will notice no visible change, but you now have access to the more advanced configuration options for the browser.
2. Press MENU, go into the browser's settings and under the Debug heading, be sure that "Normal rendering" is checked.
3. At the very bottom of the Debug options, click "UAString" and select "Desktop".
4. Reload the page.
You should now hopefully be able to see sites as they appear on a desktop computer.
NOTE: If you clear out the browser's data from the Manage Applications menu under Android's main settings page that you access by using the MENU button on the home screen, you will have to repeat these steps to be able to see sites rendered as they are on desktops again.
Well whatever it does, it works.

Not sure if it really changed anything.
One thing I noticed is that text won't reflow anymore.

I'd hardly call that a fix. It works a bit better but the Nexus S lags a lot with flash and heavy contents pages due to a bug in the gpu that doesn't utilize graphics acceleration. The solution will come in the form of an update driver, until then, try out androidcentral.com, crackberry.com etc and watch the serious lag as you scroll the page.
That won't fix it.
The reason why its sometimes choppy is because that the default android browser does not support GPU acceleration.
But from previous hints from Romain Guy at google, i think we are going to see a better browser in future releases like Honeycomb.

All my other Android phones work perfectly, just the S. It seems to be a Samsung related issue similar to the issue they had with the Galaxy series phones that was fixed with 2.2.1. Why that wasn't included in the S is straight stupid.
Post your findings here, so Google ca see them:
http://code.google.com/p/android/is...er&colspec=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars
And don't forget to star the issue.
Can someone create a post that has all the links of all REPORTED issues to Google?
And then keep updating it
NOTE that we also MUST create/submit problem report in the Google SUPPORT forum here:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/label?lid=551c5c4cca827a18&hl=en
Otherwise, Google might not look into your bug report and probably DECLINE it:

I would love to, but I might not be updating it quite often.
The Nexus One browser isn't GPU-accelerated, still it doesn't lag as hell like the Nexus S.

actually the whole point is that the nexus one browser is optimized specifically for the snapdragon chipset to perform decently, which is why it does do well. but the same browser is NOT optimized for the hummingbird GPU combo, which is why it performs badly and needs the update.
I just use Opera Mobile (not mini) and get blissfully smooth pinch-zoom and panning on any site. Yes it doesn't have flash, but for the (very few) times I need it, I still have the stock browser. I've also tried Firefox Mobile (latest beta and a ton of nightlies), but it still doesn't hold a candle to the smoothness of Opera Mobile.
Could Try this Browser From Galaxy S.. It Renders graphics on our Galaxy S alot better and reported to use GPU-acceleration and i tried this lagfix and found Androidcentral.com site to scroll smoothly

The only "fix" that i did was installing Opera mini as the default browser. At least is faster and its free.Just saw the omnia 7 windows mobile phone surfing the net with amazing speed.Just dont understand why on android its so awfull
Because there is no flash right now on winphone7.
Its because wp7 has a crippled browser that does not support everything the stock webkit browser can do. Read all the reviews on wp7 and you'll see them all dislike it. Also can't you use the libwebkit.so file from galaxy tablet fix.

Had my tab 8.9 for about 2 days now and so far the only thing that's annoying me is the lag, the browser has crashed too many times to count and the home screen is constantly freezing and stuttering and ive noticed when i have about 4 apps open the task manager is showing under 100mb of ram left which is pitiful for the 1gb the tablet actually has,
Knowing my luck this is just a faulty unit and will need to be replaced asap before it pisses me of further and i end up throwing it down the mountain

Strange take it back too shop or try it with different people wifi
I would say there is a lag issue by the number of posts in Google (try searching "samsung galaxy tab 8.9" AND lag).
A few things to check:
- Try an update (latest should be HC 3.2).
- Try different a browser (Dolphin HD is good option so check if crashing on different browser).
- I've read that turning off in Settings Animations helps and as well as Motion Settings.
- Try a different launcher. Have heard ADW makes things smoother (try Go Launcher as well).
- More drastic measures include installing a new rom but would wait for the ICS update (which is my golden hope to fix).
If still an issue, then take it back in to show them. I am hoping ICS does make things smoother.
Yes I am also pinning my hopes on ics as it should sort everything out, im on stock 3.2 atm but have also tried the overcome rom but don't know about changing the kernel to help speed things up or even over clocking. dolphin hd hasn't improved it that much if anything it just prolongs the time until the browser closes itself without warning, and ill give the settings a try and report. thanks for the help

I play Android Drag Racing on my Tab and it does seem to lag a bit. I cannot hit the shifts that I can with my Galaxy S II; not even close. The 3.2 update did not help...
Yeah, this browser scroll lag is killing me. I've got an LTE and it scrolls so much slower than my Dell Steak on 2.2 scrolls so much smoother. My 8.9 feels like I'm pulling my finger through molasses. Even Opera scrolls slow. It is very annoying.
Ive just ordered one of these because they are on sale in the UK at the moment. It was either this or an original Xoom, both are £279 at the moment..
In the shop the xoom was silky smooth in either orientation, but the Tab was laggy. I just assumed it was the store unit that had been messed about with by customers. So it effects all units? It was pretty bad, i hope it can be fixed otherwise it will have to go back. Im beginning to think i made the wrong choice..

Personally I do not think you have made the wrong choice. Any lag issues with the interface can be easily fixed by downloading a different launcher from Play Google The Xoom comes with the stock version of Android Honeycomb and this is why it appears smoother. Android Ice Cream Sandwich brings performance improvements so should be smoother even with Samsung's TouchWiz launcher in place once Samsung have released the update; alternatively you can install a different version of the OS, even a stock version through Galaxian-Soup, if you feel there are still issues.
Its not just that though is it. The browser is laggy, Maps was much slower, some games have issues and i have seen reports that the Xoom handles HD movie playback better. I really torn over this because i prefer the 8.9 physically, but the lag is a real killer. I factory reset a store tab today and it was still super laggy.
I have both arriving tomorrow which is when i will decide.
The Xoom has much more mature ICS ROMs with no issues. The ICS ROMs for the 8.9 still seem laggy in the vids i have seen.

Performance issues are one thing, but complaining about "100MB of RAM left" is ignorant. The whole point of having RAM is to use it. Android isn't like Windows, it uses RAM to cache aggressively - a desirable behaviour.
In other words, if your tab isn't using most of the memory then you've got an inefficient device.

While I agree with the above statements, the tablet caching bloatware apps in RAM is still a waste. Why is the stupid thing cashing Social Hub, Media Hub, Samsung App Store, Accuweather, etc, when I don't have accounts set up on those or have them running on a homescreen or widget? On a fresh reboot, I can use the TW Task Manager's 'Clear Memory' button and it kills 20+ apps and frees ~200MB of RAM. Waste.

Hey everybody,
i know there alot of nook users that use Read it Later (Now called "Pocket").
Since they changed to the new name it cant be installed on your nook from the android market.
i think they discontinued the android 2.1 support.
I have opened a ticket at their support system to get it back on the nook
If you want this too or just want to help me to get it back,
please leave a reply on the ticket
http://support.readitlaterlist.com/...android-21-for-older-devices-or-ebook-readers
Thank You!
Could you pull the necessary files from a Nook that has ReadItLater currently installed?
Failing that, I would email 'Pocket' support and ask for the application. You might get it. It was available publically only hours ago, how strict could they be?
i have thought about that too (add the files here) but i only have the pro version.
I dont think its allowed to publish the apk from a paid app ?! but i dont know, if iam wrong correct me
Yes it now requires 2.2.
Although it never worked properly on my nook anyway. Had some serious scrolling problems. When scrolling down by swiping the screen it would often move in the wrong direction. I had the same problem with the IHT app by the way.
Have a look at the Readability thread in this forum. Maybe that is for you. Its what I am doint at the moment.

Grr. Old app no longer syncs
Wasn't going to complain too much not to get the "pocket" rebrand since readitlater was still working fine... but now it isn't. Can't download any of my articles (though it can see they are there). They must have changed the system to no longer be compatible with the old version.

Free registration at instapaper.com, free app. from google market "Read later for Instapaper" (author Capone) plus official bookmarklet from instapaper.com for browser which adds current page to the reading list. I almost happy with this solution.
Cons: no images, font is horrible and i see no way to change it, you need to refresh the list manually to download new articles, don't use full screen mode because it will hide options button at the top of your nook. Cheers

Capone's "Read Later for Instapaper" has been removed from the Google Play store. Presumably because it no longer syncs (the spinner spins, but makes no progress) and if you clear data and try to set it up again, the (correct) username and password aren't accepted. Presumably Instapaper have blocked it from logging into an account that doesn't have a $1/month subscription attached (the API is only open to third-party apps if the account does so). The official paid Instapaper app doesn't require the subscription, but requires Android 2.3.3.
Has anyone got a copy of an older version of the official Instapaper app that still runs on Android 2.1?
EDIT: I've found Laters which works on Android 2.1 on the Nook, so I think I'll switch back to Pocket.
I read today that Pocket is now available for the Kobo reader. May be is it possible to use the kobo version on our NST?

There is an option to increase or decrease the text size in the menu when reading Push Text Style on the menu. You can also choose Article view or full web page view in th options.
Readitlater seems to be the best option right now. It is possible to scroll with the nook buttons by enabling "Volume rocker scrolling" in the Readitlater settings. You have to go into Nook Touch Mod Manager and set your hardware buttons to Volume up and Volume down, but fortunately the keys still work fine in reader apps when set like this.
Newer version
This is the 1.3 version. I 've tested it, it works pretty good and has the "volume rocker" option too. Only minus is that if you map hardware keys to volume up and down, while they work well with read it later they don't work with stock reader
Also sometimes you swipe to scroll down but it scrolls up (weird bug..)

I'm struggling to get FarmVille2 working on the new Nexus 7 i bought for my good lady
Am i right in thinking that FB is detecting the device type as 'Tablet' and this is why it is forcing load of the FarmVille Express version, rather than the full game ?
If so, is there an easy way to change the device type to 'PC' or whatever to make it work ?
I remember that in order to get BBC iPlayer working on the HD2, it was a similar scenario, but involved an easy reg change, but guess this is different

HTML STANDARDS cross platform compatility ISSUE
I think this is a similar issue as with Pogo games... My Better half would Love to play her Pogo games on her Android tablet.. I have tried nearly everything.. Even went thru talking to them on the pogo forums.. The bottom line is They do NOT SUPPORT the Android Flash/JAVA run time players.. Check some other flash game sites made for windows machines. You will see the same issue. This is one of the reasons there needs to be a HTML Standard for VIDEO/Animation on the net..
I would say your best best at this point is to go to Facebook support and see if there is any documentation about this. There could be a solution now.Its been many months since i tried doing exactly what you want. There was no solution at that time and no work being done to make it happen in sight..
My thoughts are until there is a True HTML Standard that all browsers and browser content MUST Comply with . We will have this type of issues. HTML 5 And then now 6 is supposed to be the issue.. People keep holding on to what they are using now. They do this to save dev. dollars. Until all back word compatibility in browsers are broken there will be NO True standard for cross platform games in a browser environment.
If you do find a solution Please let us all know..
Good Luck
Erica Renee ..

I see what you mean with the lagginess of the scrolling.
As I'm at work, I don't have my Tab S2 connected so I tried the same Google search using the home screen widget as you did on my One Plus 3. It lagged when I first scrolled down, then was silky smooth going up and down.
Will take another look when I get home on the S2. Why don't you just conduct your searches in Chrome until a solution is found?

Yes its like the Google app uses a poor version of Chrome to display its results. Suggest you set your homepage as Google in the Samsung Browser and just search from there.
Personally, I use habit browser, (which has an unbelievable amount of settings.) Once configured, it flies through websites and only ever displays the PC version of pages.
Just tried it now at home on my T715 and it was as laggy as hell. Probably even worse than the YouTube video. :crying:
