So I got locked out via the pattern lock on the Captivate. I tried hard reset, deleting all user data and rebooting.. but still comes up with a gmail account and password prompt on start. I can not get this to work... how can I get it back to stock out of the box so I can start over? Will odin work to do this?

Unfortunately this is a bug in 2.1 on the Captivate and the only way I know to fix it is to use ODIN to flash the phone.
As was said above if you odin flash you should be ok, outside oid loosing your set up and app status

Whoops. I need a little help ><
So a while ago, I screwed up my phone. After doing a few flashes of different roms...I ended up screwing it up so that no 3 button combos work, no commands work either. I could get into recovery via commands but not download mode.
Eventually I downloaded a new version of MIUI, went to install it. formated my /system only to find out the file did not download properly...was corrupt. Stupidly I restarted my phone, so now as you can guess it does not boot up...
I ordered a JIG should be here any day now.
My question is: Is it possible to flash miui via download mode and odin...without loosing all my data on the phone? (I am mostly concerned about my SMS messages as I need some for an upcoming court case. I know, I know TMI) and if so...how?
Thanks in advance....
You should be able to request message logs from your provider if you do lose them.

+1. You will lose all your data though through odin. No way to fix that.
can you flash miui from odin? NO.
get download mode. flash to stock, use a complete stock odin.
then go to miui website and follow instructions.
I know how to flash miui, I was just hoping there was another way to do it.
Thanks for the replies. I appreciate it. I will look into getting the messages from my provider.
I recently got my phone back from a jtag repair man who left my phone in donwload mode, and I have no clue which stock rom to flash... what should I do? how can i be sure of the origin of the phone?

Ok, I did what you said, now it just goes to 'logo_ql.jpg' draw failed. It also wont let me get back into download mode, it just goes to this message. now what?
EDIT, nevermind, got it into download mode... guess i just need to keep trying different roms to figure out which one works?
You said your note came from repair and it was on download mode. I think it was NOT REPAIRED AT ALL. Country or region has nothing to do with manual flashing. You only need region when using kies to update.

Tbere is no need to try different roms as every rom is like same. Not much difference. Maybe your device is hard bricked and writing isn't possible. Get your motherboard replaced.

EDIT: nevermind! got it! just had to use the stock recovery to wipe the data partitiopn and now my note is working great! thanks for your guys help!!

Don't ever wipe using stock ICS kernel. It will hard brick your device. I think now already got affected. Flash a safe kernel first then wipe.

So I have a question. I had tried rooting my device and it failed into a soft brick. Previously I had jzo54k on there. Using Odin I installed the Poland software but it seemed to have failed because now I am not able to register on a network. I have an international version of the Note 2 that I am using in the US. Since I am not able to connect to a network I am lost as to what to try. Any suggestions on where to go from here?

Never mind... I got it. I had to update only via Kies. And then from there it pushed my original software. Thanks!
Stuck on Splash Screen. No recovery. Odin not able to flash roms.

Hi
My stock JB official unrooted rom suddenly went to a bootloop. I looked up online for solutions and flashed an official JB ROM for my phone and Odin failed to flash it. I tried Philz recovery but Odin failed to flash it. I got a yellow triangle which I was able to removie through Odin. Currently my phone is stuck on the splash screen. Recovery doesn't work. Odin fails when I try to reflash with a md5.tar file. Please experts help me with my problem. would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.
Hey folks!
I attempted to root my stock captivate I897 using Odin, and ended up soft bricking it. I was able to unbrick it using a program called OneClick.jar, but now when I activate wifi it scans for connections but doesn't find any. Tried turning phone off and then on, and did a factory reset - neither have helped.
any ideas?
Thx so much in advance!

If you're already on 2.3.5, you can grab the one without bootloaders. Otherwise you'll need the one with bootloaders.
Just make sure you don't interrupt it and all should go well.

I wanted to reinstall stock firmware just to start fresh, but for some reason, ODIN would never turn yellow. I used usb 2.0 cables, 3.0 cables, installed the usb drivers, and still no yellow. Then I tried Kies, and was just a pain in the ass, so then I tried Factory Reset. When I try this, every time it says "unfortunately settings has stopped". I have no way of restoring my phone. Can anyone help me out with this?

Follow this , it will downgrade you to the original ( ANCE ) firmware. Afterwards you can do the OTA to get back to the ( AND3 ) this worked for me. The only bad thing is that you will LOOSE EVERYTHING on your phone. Make sure to backup whatever you don't wanna loose.
I loaded all files except the BL at once to save time.

You tried restarting your computer?
I tried your suggestions and the only thing that really worked was the recovery mode suggestion, but it wasn't a complete refresh. It still had my set wallpaper, and My Magazine still says "application not installed", and Nokia Z launcher still tells me that my phone is rooted (tho it isn't).

I was going to restore my phone back to the ANCE firmware and pretty much start over so that I could get some of the system apps that I deleted, my problem is that my comp will recognize my phone while my phone is on, once I put it into download mode and plug it back into my comp it says "drivers not installed correctly" any thoughts on how to fix this. There is nothing wrong with the phone right now and I have done decided not to restore but would like to know how to fix this for future purposes.
Edit:
I got it fixed. I updated Kids and reinstalled drivers and all works now.

Did you use the factory firmware (matching your version) and the pit file using Odin?
The pit file is important because it has the partition information for flashing the firmware.
