I just received a warranty replacement for my ATT Tilt (reception problem, it would drop signal and not pick it up again, not in a 3g area). I checked the device info to see if they had preloaded the updated rom--they did--and in the hardware section they listed the chip as a 7201, not a 7200 like my old one.
So, what is the difference between the 7200 and the 7201? I did a seach and couldn't really find anything.
Thanks.

I must admit, sheepishly, that I haven't done anything with it yet. I don't have time to string out the restore process, and I don't want to just restore from a backup, so I'm collecting all the cabs I need, at the moment. I should have it up completely tomorrow night.
Is there any file or anything I should be looking for?

OK,
I ran VSBenchmark--sound off--and got the following:
graphics: 1254
Others: 2178
JPEG: 2612
games: 1540
Sound: 0592
final score: 1635
so according to this, it's not any faster.
ugh..who knows.. maybe its nothing lol.
but i thought i remember hearing that the P6500 had this chip or something?
I just got my tilt last week and it also has the 7201 not any faster than other tilts though

For some reason this reply really makes me laugh inside. What your seeing is (my guess) the oem chip number finally being shown. This is the chip with the video gpu turned off. Why does everyone think it's going to be something better?

/cry... Seriously, I've given up hoping for awesome video performance from my Tilt. I'm running Dutty's latest release and it is plenty fast enough for me. I barely use my phone for talking, let alone video playback. We'll just have to wait for the Xperia to come out.

I was afraid of that. So, same chip, but new number to reflect what we <i>really</i> have.
In my not so humble opinion, I would say that maybe Qualcomm caught enough heat from people like us that they started requiring new phone to go out with the 7201 name instead of the 7200. Now they will have something to fall back on. Also the way that HTC has worded some of their replies to us just gives me the impression that this chip has been modded for them. Which is normal.

hey i was thinking that too, either improvement, or a big nail thru the processor disabling any possible drivers.
QUALCOMM(R) 7201 vs 7200 chip
I just got my new Tilt from at&t today for a warranty swap. I checked it out hoping there would be a new ROM release on it. There wasn't. I checked the Device Info and to my surprise it was a different chip. Normally it's the 7200. This one has the 7201. I am wondering if this is common where some Kaisers come with the 7201 or if it's a new release. I searched Google and was unable to find any info. Here are some pictures.
I'm unsure that it's anything but I have noticed that my new tilt runs much faster and smoother. There could be a few different reasons but my old one never seemed to run this fast.
I am using the at&t wm6.1 test rom on both.
Here is mine. Thats odd. I haven't seen that. Maybe someone can clarify.

hmm my tytnII is 7200 as well...maybe tilts have 7201?
my tilt is 7200
I just got my warranty replacement today and it too has the 7201 chip. I couldn't find this thread so I started my own.
Mine seems faster and smoother. Significantly. It's possible it's because of something I did to my old Tilt but I really don't think I did anything but it's possible. I'm benchmarking in coreplayer and I'll try spb benchmark, but it's not likely i'll find anything.....

Hi there!
I would wanna know why is that my 2 phones (S10, Note9) behaving the same exact way on 2 different Samsung fast chargers - Wireless Charger Duo and Wireless Charger Convertible.
Whenever I try to charge, after like 5 mins, the charging rate drops from 800-840mA to 0-200mA, and it takes around 4-5 hours to fully charge. I tried different official samsung bricks and cables (the one that comes with phone, one that comes with the duo, one that I bought seperately as adaptive fast charger brick etc), ALSO third party bricks and cables, no change whatsoever, behaves the same way.
The phones reach around 38 Celsius the first time when it charges with 800mA, then drops down to 36 Celsius with 0-200mA.
I'm guessing its the heat sensor in either the charger or the phone, but it's ridiculous...I have an ambient temp of around 25-28 celsius since it's summer, but even a 40 celsius on the phone or the charger shouldn't be a problem in my opinion...(PC cpu-s can operate on 60-70 celsius nonstop without even crashing)
Thanks for reading

Well sorry, but that's obvious, the outer parts of the phone (aluminium and plastic) can get around, I'd guess, 80 celsius in summer in direct sunlight at midday...
I'm obviously not trying to wirelessly charge my phone in direct sunlight, and I advise you the same so thanks for that piece of information...

Of course I do, but that actually doesnt affect it, tried without the cases...
I really think it's the "heating", but the real interesting thing is that I think before the june patch, it didn't matter how hot it got, it just charged with full throttle until about 90%, the dropped to half (500mA-600mA)...I only experienced it after that update...
So noone has a solution I guess...is there any way to overwrite that sensor coding to 39 degrees?
jd14771 said:
Having a thick case can absolutely effect wireless charging, so that's why I asked.
Now you say that it's been since the June patch that it's been acting like this, and Samsung could have very well limited wireless charging under heat.
Due to the harsh reality that is the note 7, these seem to be sensible, required limits to charging. I would not help in changing that hard limit on battery temp current limiting, nor do I suggest anyone else for it's a safety risk.
Is fast charging on? (Assuming it is)
Turn of fast charging and see if the charge temps allow for uninterrupted charging.
Click to collapse
Well I just made a small test, seems like it only fluctuates a very small amount fast wireless turned off - 380-440mA, and the hottest it gets is 35 celsius degrees.
It really seems to me that when temps hit 38celsius (I dont know which temp sensor is that ,I know its not the cpu part, it's the one shows in apps like Ampere), it just almost disconnects the charging, which is interesting, if it gets just around 38c with 840mA, it just should lower the amp input a bit, like 700mA (somehow, I don't really know how it works, maybe it's either fast or normal charge, not like an adjustable value).
Maybe someone from Samsung team will read this or similar, and make it work
And yes, I do remember the S7 misery and yeah of course, especially during summer, it must be a concern (probably that's why they included this in June patch)
But then again...I bought a topnotch phone, official fast charger, and a few degrees warmer, makes it charge 0-200mA... which is less the half of normal wireless charging
jd14771 said:
You bought a top notch phone, do you want a top notch fire started instead? Lol
I can understand how frustrating it would be to not be able to wireless charge at all like in your situation.
So did turning off fast charging work for you?
Click to collapse
Come on, it wouldn't start a fire, like I said, it wasn't like this before the june patch (maybe may), I actually did measurements in between fast wired, fast wireless chargings, official and unofficial brands to see if I would need to buy the samsung stuff for 500% that does the same as an offbrand charger, and actually yes, official wireless chargers for samsung do charge the phone around 10-15% faster, BUT I also looked at temps, during springtime, it was well above 39 celsius for the most part of the charging time(it just kept charging full throttle)...
And again, yeah, turning off fast wireless charging goes flawlessly.
Also, did a small test again, wired fast charge, around 1100mA, phone gets around 39-40celsius, yet that keeps on going, no "charging-throttle"...it must be something to do with the parameters and values added in the wireless coding.
I'd post on the samsung forums instead of xda if you really want actual visibly on Samsung's part. dont know why people continue to report issues and expect support from xda when issues as these are clearly something to bring up to the phone company.( screen issues, camera issues etc, all are reported on xda and i suspect only a small amount actualy post about it on samsung forums)
also did you check if fast WIRED charging also has the same issues/behavior?
if so, you know its not related to the type of charging but something newly implemented.
jd14771 said:
Battery degredation by heat is a real problem for lithium. And the fire risk comes from the fact that they can create their own oxygen and putting them out is near impossible unless you have the proper dousing chemicals.
Wireless charging is know for producing excess heat..
Fast charging is know for producing excess heat...
Put them together and you have a hot phone. It sounds like Samsung patched a flaw in the charging system that can lead 5o battery issues over charge cycles.
On one hand The only way to really test this is for you to flash your phone to an earlier OS VERSION and see if this is in fact the case.
On the other hand at least you know you can turn of fast charging in order to produce stable wireless charging currents. I

You didn't help, just tried to show (for any reason) inferiority by arguing with literally everything I stated.
Now I dont care for that...
Are you a Samsung employee? I know a lot of the software engineers from Samsung and from Google are here to learn, experiment with mods, features, roms etc.
Main point I already made, in an ambient temp of 27 degrees, the 100 dollar fast wireless charger takes 5 hours to charge, which is ridiculous value, and you cant state any reasoning for this, since a few months ago it worked as it should.

This in incorrect. Completely incorrect. For both the Exynos and the Snapdragon model. You never stated what version phone you have.
I have the US snapgradon note 9, and i can upgrade and downgrade to ANY available OS version.
For the Exynos variant, you can downgrade so long as the version you are downgrading too has a bootloader version that is the same version. If you are on the current OS version from 7/10, then you can not downgrade. But if you were on Pie 6/03 you could have downgraded all the way to oreo update from 10/11/18.
For why you want to call me out is understandable. im not telling you what you want to hear.

of course, i was able to fast charge whilst its turned off, you solved the problem why you try to pose as a hero here, when it obviously is not the solution? either it IS some sort of safe coding that's been put into the new firmwares, OR some cross-coding weird thing...to neither is "turn off FWC" is the solution
I already suggested that you turn off fast charging and provided the reasoning why that would help, and that worked. But you have convinced yourself that i have been arguing with you because of another users sour attitude twords me.

Same as above, you provided no solution, yet you claiming that, man, what is wrong with you? Or you really think turning fast wireless off, is gonna fast charge my phone wirelessly?
It's only threads where this particular user is present where problems arise. When i help other members, all is well. I hope the mods take appropriate action as this is highly counter productive and just ends up clogging threads with tons of non sense for no reason.

I do not care, really, your catfighting is not my problem...and again, the reason I called you out is because you keep on rumbling how helpful you are/were....when it is not true...
Im not trying to do anything. I was trying to help. now i am defending my actions after a certain user infected you with this nonsense. I reported all off topic posts, as that is what i have been instructed to do.

INSTRUCTED? You really lost it man, no one instructed you, just .... COME ON DD you really sound very mentally challenged for this statement, that you've been instructed...It's called "Forum Rules", you have NOT been instructed
Also, for the small time I'm keeping the topic alive, look at this:
I know exactly what you are trying to do, every time you post here, anything I reply with, you report...so you think, more report on my posts, the more likely the whole thread will be closed, right? What a revenge for calling you out You think I wouldn't be able to reopen a thread, or even, re-register an account? Come on man, really, this is low...

Was I right, or was I correct? XD
Couldn't be bothered to read through the arguing (you guys should really grow up) but thought I'd chime in with my testing results, I check the power my Ravpower wireless charger is using so will be different to however you're getting your figures. I'm seeing 9V 1A until it hits 38C and then it drops to 9V 0.5A and then it jumps back up to 9V 1A after the temp drops down to 36C. I have a USB desk fan that I usually point at the phone when wireless charging and that keeps the phone within a few degrees of ambient.
My phone is a N960F running the July firmware.
