[Q] Apps2sd after factory reset - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

I have searched for this issue but I cannot find an answer
I have just done a factory reset to my XT720, which was rooted and installed with apps2sd. I noticed that after resetting, the apps that are on the SD card cannot be found in the menu.
Also, when I try to install apps2sd again through adb, it shows a few errors:
warning'/system/bin/busybox' exists, use -f to overwrite
warning'/system/lib/modules/ext2.ko' exists, use -f to overwrite insmod:can't insert 'system/lib/modyles/ext.ko':File exists
mkdir failed for /system/sd, File exists
mount: mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 on /system/sd failed: Device or resource busy
sorry, mount sd ext2 fail!!!
So what should I do to get apps2sd back working?
I am still a newbie to Android and please forgive me if this is a stupid question. If there is a solution out there, I'll appreciate if somebody can post the link for me. I have been searching for 2 hours....

Reflashing my phone worked for me... maybe try that and then reinstall... should work fine

Thanks for your help
But is there another way to fix it?
And will the apps come back after I install the apps2sd again?

delete files, that couldn't be removed throuth adb, using Root Explorer and try to reinstall App2SD again. I like more Move2SD Enabler than App2SD.

thanks forbrand
i've solved the problem by flashing the rom.
Apps2sd installed smoothly after flashing
I didn't know there is sth called Move2SD.
How is it better than Apps2sd, say easier installation?

move2sd efforts to move applications to sd which app2sd doesn't affort and after moving everything works fine.

are you sure it's Move 2 SD ? i though that was only for Froyo
the only App APK that works in 2.1 is App2Card... as far as i know.
and App2SD is a script

app2sd workin on telus milestone

wow i got app2sd working on my telus milestone make sure that busybox is not installed on the system i mean when u use adb to install not busybox itself (from titanium etc) if the method does not work unroot then root the try it will work.
i did not create this i have just copied and pasted it i know alot of people need this so here
. App2SD Version 2 (http://www.mediafire.com/?emhyw4tmkmh)
This revised version of App2SD is more refine. It moves cache as well as apps to MicroSD.
Steps to prepare for installation:
1. Unzip the downloaded file and you should see a folder "APP2SD Package".
2. Rename "APP2SD Package" folder to "app2sd" and move this folder to MicroSD. (place it in the root: MicroSD card/)
Next, simply connect the Milestone to your computer.
Ensure it is "Charge Only" for USB connection and USB Debugging mode for USB is turned on under Settings > Applications > Development.
Once you have the above checked, go ahead to launch a command prompt and perform the following:
Type: cd/ (to get to the root of your C: drive)
Type: cd /android/tools (to get to the folder of the Android SDK which i mentioned earlier)
Type: adb devices (you should see your Milestone serial number showing up. If you do not see serial number, it means there is no connection to your Milestone)
Type: adb shell
Type: su (make sure you do not see a prompt window on your Milestone. If you do, grant permission for it to access)
Type: cd /sdcard/app2sd
Type: sh install_use_busybox.sh (trigger installation of App2SD)
Type: y (to confirm that you want to install)
wait for the prompt to show you that App2SD is complete and a reboot is needed for it to take effect.
Type: y (to confirm reboot. You might notice that Milestone do not reboot by self which is normal)
Type: reboot (if you find Milestone do not reboot after you enter y as above mentioned)
Enjoy after the reboot... this works yes
u can type ls -l /data to see if it works
hey I'm just about to do the apps2sd for my milestone and was wondering which partitions if any did you make for the SD card? thanks
I'm assuming it needs at least ext2 and I'm about to set mine up with ext3, just want to make sure so I don't screw anything up
also just wanted to say if you haven't overclocked your milestone, definitely do it, just did mine yesterday, running at 1ghz and it is so amazing, downloads are insane, browser is quick and menus and everything are perfect, eat that X10

haha ya i overclocked it but I do not go over 800mhz to risky plus gets pretty hot.
I made a ext 2 partion using unbuntu,.......partionmanager said it was partioned but would not work,app2sd did not see it. u can try it though but i recommend unbuntu let me know what happens

so I got it all running, partitioned with ext3, it seems to be working but it didn't push any of my existing apps over to the SD card, do you know if there's a script to do this? Or do I have to uninstall each and reinstall them? (tested that way and they seem to go to the SD card then)

yeah it's okay, this morning I sat down with it and put on my programming hat and went through the script and modified it enough to make it fix all the errors I was getting, so I've got it all done, nice 144mb of free space on the phone, and back to overclocked, and everything is running nice and smooth!!
glad u got it working ...im I right about busybox causing the errors?
did u hear the bootloader has been cracked
nevermind - got it working, just had to ensure the partition is made the correct way in Ubuntu!
Hi apps2sd v1 is kinda old news and was much more complicated then that , are you sure your guide is complete for someone who hasnt done all that was needed to be done in previous version ?
Also I never applied this mod because I was wondering why there was a need for it .. with the 'davlik mem cache hack' I have tons of applications & widget installed , much more then I need in fact so yea you guys notice if the phone is faster or anything else after usin apps2sd ?

it s not , or I guess it all depends on what you call cracked , whatever has been done to it is useless for us practically speaking , truth is we are in fact very close ( talking of a few weeks maximum a the speed its currently going )to running 'roms' on our stone !!!

it's faster with overclock module 4 sure plus i have tons of apps
the guide is straight forward just make sure u use unbuntu to partition
true but now no siginature is needed so custom roms on the way froyo was ported on sat to droid so we should get it in a few week heck maybe this week it is something worth doing now that we don't need no bootloader

it is complete and works well, from what I can gather its just a script of the previous apps2sd so makes life a lot easier (with some obvious tweaks)
One part about it I do not like and am looking into how to change it is it goes and installs a heap of Telus libs/files in the OS as well as the UMTS/GSM files - nice to be able to do both Milestones at once, but a bit sloppy....time to tweak....
Just make sure the card is partitioned in a card reader and not via the phone in Ubuntu (its NOT unbuntu!!..lol) and there is no need for a swap partition.
And if you are not using gparted but the included 'disk utility' in Lucid, make sure you untick the 'Take Ownership' check box otherwise it will partition it for super user access only!
Took me 3 goes to get it done right but that was the only method of partitioning that would work for me with no errors
The only speed increase has been thanks to the Overclock module, just nice to see 140mb still free on the phone after installing many many apps - better than the 10mb I used to have free

Sorry dont get your hopes up but you are Wrong ... plain wrong
its not cracked
signature still needed
and Kexec aint workin yet either ..
Our best hope for custom roms is Kexec and it will most likely be up and runnin within a month ( fingers crossed )
This Forum is a great (1 of the best ) forum so unless you are able to boot something without signature by yourself please dont spread false information as others might think because it has been posted here its true .
ya i know the bad news
So App2SD will not be listed under Settings->Applications?
When i do ls -l /data, what should i expect to see if it works? If it didnt work?

I'm going to guess you will get a list of apps that would be in the /data part of your sd card. Assuming that you have correctly installed for the lack of a better word App2SD...

Please advise what the heck I'm doing wrong here and thanks. :]

[Q] Problem with paid apps with Apps2SD

Hello!
I have used Apps2SD Script included with G.O.T Recovery to partition and set up Apps2SD on my Milestone. Upon reboot everything works fine except that I can't launch two paid apps, namely: Got To Do and MountUSB. They were installed from Market but in place of the icon and name I get default icon (Droid's head on white background) and com.slamjibe.... and upon launching it I get FC. Can anyone help me?
contact the developper of these apps ask them support for apps2sd , many dev havent updated there apps for it ...
Hmm, I'm having this problem as well with apps not installing correctly.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
Which Apps2SD option did you guys use from the G.O.T. menu? I am using the "Symlink Edition" and it is working fine so far.

hi dsixda, I used just the plain and simple App2SD install I couldn't find a clear explination of the differences between just app2sd and the symlink version, if you have the chance, of if you are willing to could you please try to install Horoscope and Tarot by horoscope.com I know bad example app but its one that I remember off the top of my head. Yeah that horoscope app runs fine for me! Basically the "symlink edition" of Apps2SD just changes the location of the /data/app and /data/app-private folders to the EXT2 partition on the SD card.

Just do a Titanium Backup of all your current data, do a Nandroid backup, then reflash the ROM without apps2sd.
Then, restore with Titanium, make sure all your apps are on your device, and then finally apply the symlink edition of Apps2sd... It will move them all.
Kk so instead of doing a titanium back up, I did a full wipe, replashed, re nandroid'ed, re formatted my sd card, and installed the syslink or symlink app2sd and everything works perfectly now
Thanks you guys

Check the available memory in the Settings menu, it should be higher now. Or just use adb, go into /data and do an "ls -l". The app folder should point to another folder. Also, in Root Explorer the app folder should now show the size remaining proportional to your ext2 partition.
I have actually modified an existing script so that now even the /data/dalvik-cache is moved to sd. I have freed up over 30MB more now. I can attach it later.
Apps2SD script
Here's a script that takes your apps to the SD card, and also links the /data/dalvik-cache there. With a newly flashed Milestone you should see at least 190MB free.
Just unzip this under /sdcard/OpenRecovey/scripts. Launch it from OpenRecovery, using the menu option Miscellaneous-->Run script-->install_apps2sh.sh..
NOTE: Make sure your /system/bin/mot_boot_mode is either the stock one or the one that GOT's OpenRecovery added. Otherwise the script will not work.
My script is based on another APPS2SD script, but I changed it so that it doesn't overwrite the modified mot_boot_mode file that GOT's OpenRecovery had added when you do overclocking, memhack, etc. (if it's not there then it will add it).

Hi , thanks for the response, just to clarify, after rooting with got's open recovery and flashed v2a roms, i splited my sd card thru the got's open recovery program and install the symlik edition of app2sd, indeed my memory from 16x became 194, but when i install some program, some space were taken up i think, it appear to be 189 now, i installed launcherpro and a few stuff, so i can assume that my app2sd is working and it is just because some program cant support to install to sd right? Sorry for my bad english.

It's probably because of the stuff stored under /data/data (application data, not the apps themselves). I have the same issue too. You can try to make a symlink to move them your sd card, but it actually slows down your apps when u run them, even with a high-speed / Class 6 SD card.

NO.... It's application DATA that's taking up space, not the apps themselves. Not much you can do about it. It's normal. The symlink method would have moved your apps to the SD card automatically.

Installation unsuccessful !! Cyanogen mod

I really can't stand it any more
I am unable to install any app whether from the android market or as an apk file !!
I've tried everything to solve it but nothing's works !
I've tried clearing the catch for the download manager and the market
Tried wipe everything and reinstall the rom but still no luck !!
I am really getting suck of it !!this ruined my android experience entirely
I've searched a lot of android forums but nothing works
Please please help me :"(

More info is needed if you want help. What recovery are you using, what roms have you tried (there are many cyanogen versions so just saying that doesn't help), what radio version, rooted -- if so how, and anything else you can give. If this is the only problem you have you are in the minority.
The best way to know if this is a rom or another issue is to go back to absolute stock and see if the problem persists.
Also attach a logcat so we know exactly what error it gives. Saying something doesn't work when the majority of users have that feature work is an indication of a PEBKAC.
It also could be a SD issue as well. Have you unmounted the SD card and then installed apps from that point? And then remount the SD card afterwards?
And make sure you have enough space for user apps...
Are you using apps2sd with an ext partition? Could be your ext partition that's corrupted.
Repairing it in recovery might help.
Thanks all of you ,,
Android central just published an article talks about this exact problem and their solution works like a charm

I had this problem too, for the longest time. I don't even know how it started. I thought i tried everything to fix it. My final solution was to redo my Apps2SD Dalvik-cache. I am Using Darktremor A2SD.
First I upgraded to Darktremor version 2.7.5.2 (installable zip).
Then via ADB Shell i did a "a2sd nocache" to dump the Dalvik back into the internal storage and remove the Dalvik-Cache to SD flag *Phone Reboots*
Then I did a "a2sd cachesdreset" to turn the Dalvik-Cache to SD flag back on and erase the Dalvik-cache. *another reboot*
Then i did a "su" "fix_permissions" After this, i was able to install everything without error.

Thanks for this, I was getting really frustrated trying to fix my android market problem. Wasn't able to install or update any apps, whether on sd or not. I have GRI40 (2.3.3) w/a2sd ext3. Unmounting/remounting sd card wasn't working, clearing market cache + data didn't work, nor did clearing all google apps caches + data + clearing dalvik cache. I tried the above and it worked great (didn't do the fix_permissions part but i did do the "a2sd fixapk" command in the terminal app).

[Q] Can't install certain apps

I've had some trouble with CM 6.1 because I haven't been able to install certain kind of apps; first the restore failed with Titanium Backup, so I tried on the market, but that was unsuccessful too.
What seemed to solve the problem in 6.1 was telling in CM settings to install directly on the phone (CM Settings->Application Settings -> Install location-->Internal).
Now that I've got 6.1.1 the problem is back, and the previouse fix does not work. I can't seem to get back on the phone apps like StumbleUpon and SDMove.
I don't know what the problem is since everything worked in 6.0.
Anyone has any clues?
Thanks in advance
Do you have DarkTremor's apps2SD installed? If not, what always worked for me was to unmount the SD, install the app, remount the SD and then use froyo apps2SD to move it.
I am having the same problem but have DarkTremor's apps2SD and can't unmount the SD so I don't know what to do now.

Unmounting worked!
Well, thanks a lot.
But still, this is really annoying. I mean, I should be able to install without the need to unmount/remount every time!
Yeah it's really annoying now that unmounting isn't a possibility but no one seems to have an answer why this happens in either case.
I suspect it has something to do with the way the app wants to install. One developer I talked to mentioned that apps that want to install directly to SD have this issue and this is why unmounting works, it forces the app to install to internal memory. With DarkTremors though this is no longer possible so I don't know what to do.

Hey. Look, I do not have an answer. But What I will tell you is that I used the SAME firmware and something is WRONG with app2sd on, out of stock. Many apps just refuse to move sd, which otherwise moved in cm6 and froyomod. I asked around and there doesnt seem to be a fix for it, or at least it does not have developer interest. I just moved to CM7.
