Boot loop after OTA Froyo update - Legend Android Development

Hi,
I intended to do the Froyo OTA update for my Legend today. Started the download, it finished and wanted to start the installation.
During the installtion it started to boot loop, it got to around 98% every time and then booted again, doing that over and over several times.
After about 30st boot loops I plugged the battery to see if it would help, nope... now i get the white screen with green HTC text and after that I get
to a black background with a dark phone and a red triangle with an exclamation mark in it, waiting ca 2min and it will reboot again.
Is my phone bricked or is there something I can do?
Any help or suggestions would be very appriciated.
My phone is an unbranded HTC Legend, swedish.

This should be in general. You need an RUU. Search the forums using the search tools provided

Well since I can't start the phone I can't use the RUU.
Beacause I can't use the RUU from the bootloader can't I?

Try entering the recovery mode and then use RUU update from a PC. Your phone is not branded and i think that you don't need goldcard to flash RUU.
And you should read more! There must be a hundreds of posts about this...

Thanks for the help.
Where do I find the RUU?
Tried http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Legend but they dont start on my computer. Generating some kind of windows error message.

The size of the Froyo update is wrong (only 4 MB). Try to download from different place.
You can use also LEGEIM image from here:
LEGEIMG_Legend_HTC_WWE_2.03.405.3_Radio_47.39.35.09_7.08.35.21_release_130330_signed.zip
Just put the files in the root of your SD and enter bootloader.

Rename it to LEGEIMG.zip. Put it at the root of your SD card. Boot into recovery. It'll search for and then flash it automatically.
Or you can use the RUU, as suggested, following the guide in this post from the USB Brick thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9889284&postcount=60.
E.E.

RUU actually contains what is called LEGEIMG.zip. This is not the ordinary update zip that can be flashed from recovery mode!

Completely confused with upgrade progress.. help please.

Hey all, completely lost as to where I am with my g1 haha, let me explain:
I installed v4.2.15.1 cyanogen mod a few months ago.
Then today I wanted to try and upgrade it, or just reset to standard android, didn't mind.
So I pressed camera/power button, and then installed the DREAIMG.nbh as I guessed this would reset it to RC7 (Which it did).
Then I tried gaining root access through telnetd, then using telnet to try and use a new recovery.img... this is where my problem starts.
I typed: "flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img" (recovery-RA-dream-v1.7.0.img or better for CM5) and got a file not found error.
Tried it a number of different ways, but just wouldn't work.
Then tried booting into recovery mode (using home and power) but just got a white triangle/orange !.
From here I have no clue what to do, I'm just stumped as I can't use the recovery mode, and can't seem to do anything in telnet?
My phone is still useable, just stuck with android 1.0...
Any help please how i can either just get it back to a completely standard 1.5, or the newest cyanogen mod ?
P.s, this is what my about phone status are:
model number: T-mobile G1

Try to fastboot it. The triangle screen is the stock recovery.
Btw, why would you unroot just to install CM5?

Will give the fastboot a go.
And uhh.. not sure why I "unrooted" it really, did this as a spur of the moment thing, and from what I read you couldn't upgrade directly from 4.x cyan to a 5 version :/
Thanks for the help so far though .
Wow, not a clue where to start with this fastboot thing, think I'll have to wait till tomorrow when I can have a proper sit down and do it.

Yes, you can directly update with nothing more than a simple wipe and reflash.

Well, when fastbooting recovery, about the worse I've ever pulled off is fastbooting the H recovery instead of the G recovery (I'm on a myTouch) and had to fo back and reflash the G recovery to be able to get into recovery. Not to mention its a quick hop from bootloader to recovery to see if it worked and doesn't require a working ROM.
I need a rooted phone for fastboot though, do I not? and as I couldn't load the recovery, I do not think my phone is rooted?

I don't want to insult your intelligence, but you did place the file on the root of the sdcard and rename it to recovery.img didn't you..? If you didn't rename it, you'd obviously have to type "flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-dream-v1.7.0.img"

Yes I did rename it, and checked and double checked, even reformatted card and tried again, but to no avail.
Thanks for asking though .
Was the sd definitely mounted? If you didn't unmount it from the PC after copying the file, it wouldn't be accessible to android..

Yup, just double checked says:
"error opening /sdcard/recovery.img: No such file or directory"
Also, when I try "su", it says: "su:not found".

Sounds to me exactly like the sdcard isn't mounted.
Mounting has to do with being joined with the running filesystem.
Provide the output of "mount".
As for fastboot... you will need to install the SPL 0.95.3000, or even better 1.33.2003 (that ends in a *THREE* --- very important).

I lol'd at that part.
Thinking now that possibly my sdcard is b0rked somehow. My phone can see it and everything and I can read/write on my pc to it. But whatever I try the phone just keeps saying "error opening ########: No such file or directory" (Where ###= file name)
FAIL.
I renamed recovery.img, literally "recovery.img" and obviously it didn't need the .img tag in the filename.
Please disregard/lock this thread .

Help! Stuck at HBOOT, need ideas/help!

Hi,
I bought a faulty Nexus one from ebay, thought I can fix it, as I did buy a faulty desire from ebay and was able to fix it. This time im not so lucky I guess.
So here it is:
The phone is stuck at X when booting normally.
I can access HBoot (But not Hboot USB Plug, because USB debugging is not enabled) and Fastboot USB. I unlocked Hboot. Fastboot in PC recognizes the phone but ADB does not as usb debugging is not enabled.
The phone is not Rooted
Here are my ideas so far:
Get somehow debugging on with some commands (No luck from reshearching in google)
Reflash stock rom with PASSIMG.ZIP in sdcard, but my phone does not recognize the file from my sdcard (I'm pretty certain im doing something wrong or my idea is somehow wrong)
Flash new images through FASTBOOT, but every time Signature check fails (Shipped-roms.com).
Root with superboot, but signature check failed here too.
Flash a recovery, signature check fails.
I will reguraly update my tries
Please suggest correction to my ideas or suggest new ones!
Help will be much appreciated!
I admit it, the phone might be briked, but I want to make sure that I have tried everything before I abandon this project.
And ofcourse I have no Warranty.
What file are you using for passimg.zip? Make sure it's not a zip inside a zip.
What images are you using via the fastboot flash command?
Sent from my Nexus One
You didn't unlock the bootloader, it seems - because if you did, it wouldn't be checking signatures, and you'd be able to flash anything.
First of thanks to both of you for helping.
I'm pretty sure that i do not have zip inside zip and I downloaded them from shipped roms.com -> android -> Passion-> PASSIMG_Google .... .ZIP, (Then renamed it ofcourse) Is there a difference what version of android i use?
The issue with this is, it checks the SD CARD and does not find anything. I have seen from google that the most common issue is that it starts to check the .zip file but then aborts. Does the SDCARD have to be a goldcard (I do have a goldcard but it might be faulty, right?)
I tried fastboot flash PASSIMG_Google.... .ZIP; Fastboot Flashall ( With having boot, recovery, system in my fastboot folder)
Maybe I should try to flash everything the .zip has in it seperately because that succeded for boot, system and recovery but I was too afraid to flash every partitation (Like Radio which seems to be the scariest and the most easiest way to brick phone)
For the third answer, I have ***UNLOCKED*** in bootloader in purple and top on the screen.
Once again thanks and keep suggesting!
Unpack the ZIP and flash each image separately.
Leave the radio as is, if it's updated enough (5.08 or 5.12). In any case, fastboot won't allow you to flash bad radio - and the risk of bricking the phone using fastboot is near 0.
For passimg.zip, you need to download the FRG33 shipped ROM from shipped-roms.com then EXTRACT the zip file that is inside the zip that you downloaded. Rename that file to passimg.zip
For fastboot, flash boot and system seperately.
When you boot the device normally, do you see the lock icon below the four colored x?
Sent from my Nexus One
Okay,
Did it one by one (PASSIMG_Passion_Google_WWE_2.16.1700.1_FRG33_release_signed.zip):
Succeeded:
Boot, Recovery, System and Userdata (that was only 3Kb)
Failed with signature check (Remote:Signature check failed):
Splash1, spcustom,
Did not do:
Radio
I'm going to post more details:
When booting up, it displays the X normally with the unlocking badge on the bottom of the screen and vibrates once. Then it goes black for a second or even less, the same images comes on and then it vibrates 6-7 times.
now that you successfully flashed the stock recovery, cam you boot into it?
Sent from my Nexus One
Nope, it does that what I described on the previous post
Oh and what's more it randomly during no activity being in fastboot vibrates as well for 5 times or so. It does this rarely but it's there
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710937
Thanks, Well thats it then for now, just have to figure out what to do now
Sounds like you need to get the PASSIMG.zip method to work, or unlock and flash a new recovery like amon ra, and flash a full rom with sig checks off.

[Q] How do I get back to stock?

I've searched and I am none the wiser, I am on a Sense 3.5 ROM Virtuos affinity I think its called.
I want to get back to 2,3,5 and sense 3.0 how do I go about this and what stock ROM do I download? I am in the UK, Unlocked.
I think this RUU_VIVO_SENSE30_S_HTC_WWE_3.08.405.3_Radio_20.4802.30.... is the correct file but how do I install this? Should add bootloader is unlocked via HTCDEV

In order to install an official RUU file, your bootloader needs to be in the LOCKED/RELOCKED state. You cannot flash a RUU with the bootloader in UNLOCKED state.
Enter FASTBOOT USB mode and enter the following command:
fastboot oem lock
Right ok. So I do that then do I just run that RUU file?

Yes, just run that RUU and follow the instructions.
Doesn't work
Run the file check everything all is fine, phone reboots to a black screen with HTC on it, then just sticks at Sending, It says it'll take 10min, I've let it sit 60 and still nothing, unplugged and it recovered from error so did it again and same issue. Any ideas?
Failed again, so that obviously is not going to work. When it checks software the version installed is the one I am updating so no issues there, When I disconnect it, it goes back to the white screen with fastboot or whatever, what do I do now?
I'm thinking the only option here is to try and unlock bootloader again and go through the process of flashinf clockwork mod and a rom
Ok got back to Virtuos Affinity, but I want to get back to stock, what do I do?
I downloaded this RUU_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.30.405.1_Radio_20.2808.30.085AU_3805.06.03.03_M_release_199308_signed

Did you have to Re-unlock the bootloader to go back to VA rom? If yes how did you do this?
When you tried to return to stock, did you flash the boot.img a second time in fastboot? This might be the reason it was hanging on bootup.

To relock the bootloader I typed fastboot oem lock, No I didn't flashboot boot.img as soon as I unlocked the bootloader again Virtious affinity loaded up but the cell radio doesn't work, can't get a signal.

I actually asked how you unlocked the bootloader again, to install the VA ROM, but as you posted you didn't install it again.... it just loaded up....
You ran the RUU installer and as it obviously failed, did you notice any error messages that were returned? It would give some indication as to why it could not run.
I need some kind of verification that your phone is capable of installing this stock rom without any more modifications
Code:
fastboot getvar all
paste in your next reply what this returns

Yea unplugging while its sending is perhaps not the best idea, I'm not in the least surprised that it failed. RUU flashing takes a long time.
Theres 2 checks that HTC RUU's do to allow them to flash 1. cid and 2. main version
Your phones version is higher than the stock ROM you wish to flash to, as stated in version-main, so it needs to be changed, download this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=840239&stc=1&d=1325567876
It's a main version downgrader. Extract all files ,double click the main.cmd and let it do it's thing.
You can verify the main version is successfully downgraded by entering the fastboot getvar all command again version-main will be 1.000.00000 etc
I am assuming you have the correct RUU for your region so we wont go through cid manipulation so just lock your bootloader again and run the RUU being patient this time i.e. DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR PHONE
good luck

I just walked another user through this process last night via IM. We tried the RUU method and the fastboot flash zip ROM.zip method (which obviously didn't work because the bootloader was locked!) We ended up extracting the ROM.zip from the RUU and copying it to the SD card as PG32IMG.zip.
We then put the bootloader into a LOCKED state and rebooted into HBOOT and let it automatically flash the PG32IMG.zip file.

I might have to do this, It did update something briefly, I got a progress bar on screen and on the phone, it completed that and is now back to SENDING.
So I am thinking what you mean is open the RUU it will extract a ZIP somewhere, I copy that to the SD card using and adaptor, put it back in phone then what?

Yes run the RUU without the phone connected to USB and leave the app window open. Then using Windows Explorer browse to your %TEMP% directory structure. Once of the most recent created folders will have a hex value GUID as the folder name. Inside that folder will be a file called ROM.zip. Copy that file out of the %TEMP% location to your desktop for safe keeping. Then you can copy it to your SD card and rename it PG32IMG.zip

This should have been posted in the General section, not the Development section.
If you can boot the phone into HBOOT, then you can flash a new recovery image in FASTBOOT USB mode.
If you have more questions post in the GENERAL section after you have searched.
- Problem is, that when I try to flash anything it's loading it (I can see green uploading animation in HTC) but it isn't writing it (I can see quick red uploading animation) and nothing happens afterwards...
Could you recommend particular recovery image please ? I'm very tight on time.

This will not work. This is how the OP just into the situation he is in. The RUU will not successfully install because he has the Revolutionary S-OFF HBOOT on his phone and the RUU is not able to overwrite with the HBOOT from the RUU.

I tried your RUU yesterday late night but it won't work. Only way I know to do it is to rename it to PG32IMG.zip and have it autoloaded by unlit. But it let's loaded (green loading animation) and than red loading animation which finishes but dissent make any changes I will try to find stock Rom (stock recovery?) With exe and try to flash it from console via windows. I would be happy if you could advise which file to flash as I travel and can access only wiz gprs on other phone which cost me dear and I can't really see anything I wouldn't mind to also format everything including memory where cwm or 4ext sits if its possible. I'm sorry to ask for that but will appreciate links if someone done it before due to those restrictions of searching through roaming oon company phone. Thanks guys.

When I connect this incredible s by USB and i go to fastboot it changes to fastboot usb. so it sees the phone. but windows system doesnt see it. when i run from console "adb" and "adb devices" it says nothing is nonnected. when I got RUU with .exe extension it tells me there is connection error 260 and I can't go beyond.
Does anyone have any ideas please ?
I was really hoping that flashing from windows will solve it

Have you installed the HTC drivers on your PC? If you have installed HTC Sync to get the HTC drivers installed, make sure that HTC Sync is not running in the background or System Tray.
Penguins method actually works, though he hasnt given in much detail. I know whats he saying exactly.
One mate had the same issue, he got over it, guess there was a thread where i helped him for this issue. Have it bookmarked

Also when you are in FASTBOOT USB mode, the command to use is:
fastboot devices, not adb devices

I had it enabled as well as fastboot disabled but now i don't even have a system. all i can do is to power into hboot. i cant get into recovery (that's where cwm and 4ext was sitting and it hangs everytime i try to access) nothing else. i had separate drivers for htc but i have installed and updated htc sync. will kill it everytime tries to run. i still cant get over this connection problem. RUU advised above have broken or payable links. the one i tried to install is from here: http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...igned_Raphael_52.58.25.30_1.11.25.01_Ship.exe
could someone be so kind and actually send me a link to the file that i need to insstall to finally got it moving?
i am at the moment so confused by searching thought topics i completely lost my point. please - be so kind and direct me to some downloadable link and to whatever i need to flash...
on another note - can I wipe everything somehow and than install from scratch ? (by everything i mean also the place where CWM is istting)

If that is the RUU you tried to install, no wonder you are having issues. That RUU is not for the IncS, so it is a wonder you can still even get into HBOOT.
Try this one:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/c0a...5AU_3805.06.03.03_M_release_199308_signed.exe
The problem seems to be coming from inability to connect/recognise my device in first place. I will try this suggested Rom today and let you know in few hours.
Logically thinking - what could go wrong with this phone ? I had CWM which I wanted to remove. I couldn't so I tried to install 4ext to overwrite it when I lost hope. this didn't work. Than I tried some "stock Rom" which came out to be dodgy and I'm in situation now. It's S-ON phone and all I can do is to get to hboot. But I am still cautious about this connercition error 260. I hope its because of wrong file I tried to use previously... But.... I will troy files suggested here. If that won't work - what will be next step ? Could I let's say try to download gingerbread and install it from .exe ? Would that fix it ?

How did you try to open it?
Copy it to your SD card and rename it PG32IMG.zip and the reboot into HBOOT and it should ask you to Update.

I tried to open zip to see what's inside. It didn't want to open zip file. I tried few times before to rename it to P32IMG and upload like that. My hboot detects it, loads it but nothing happens afterwards. I will try like that if the file is not corrupted. Did anyone checked it personally ? (this particular file)

HTC One root that really works

hey everyone !!
firstly, apologies if this should be somewhere else or if ive repeated someone else's problem.
hope you can help. ive got an HTC One and im trying to root it because i want to install a custom rom. ive tried lots and lots of ways including rom manager, superuser, fastboot, superboot. TWRP, CWM and your all in one toolkit but everything fails.. i was wondering if i have a problem with the internal storage. i tried to transfer a jpeg to the phone using HTC sync manager. i left it to transfer and went to work. 8 hours later the progress bar hadnt moved. i tried to transfer a boot image and it keeps timing out. rom manager comes back with errors when i do anything. for example if i try to go into fix permissions i get "an error occured while attempting to run privileged commands" im beginning to think that rooting this mobile is an impossibility. please help !!!

You won't have S-Off unless you have it unlocked from the get go, ie a developers phone.
All you need to do is follow everything from this thread and youre good to go.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2182792&highlight=how+to+root
The whole process should take about half an hour max as if you haven't made an account with HTC dev unlock then you will have to, they will send you a key once you send them the read out from your phone.
It's a really easy procedure to be honest.

hey dude
as i said the bootloader is already unlocked so i dont have to do all that again. the method u suggest is one of the many i already tried and it didnt work. its info is all wrong. it keeps referring to the SD card. The HTC one doesnt come with an SD card ??? it has internal storage.

Don't forget to erase cache after you flashed your recovery, this can cause many problems.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot erase cache
If you don't erase cache, this could be your problem.
Possible solution :
Did you try this method? Don't use any All-in-One tool to do this, do take the time to do this manually via an SDK/ADB command window (see my signature if it is not installed on your computer)
Download the boot.img HERE made by Paul O'Brien and the CWM recovery by Flyhalf205 HERE place both files in your platform-tools of your SDK folder.
Reboot into Bootloader mode
Plug your USB cable and make certain that FASTBOOT USB is highligted
At the prompt type>fastboot flash boot boot.img
Success message
Again at the prompt type>fastboot erase cache
Success message
At the prompt type>fastboot reboot-bootloader
Your phone will reboot in Bootloader mode
At the prompt type>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Success message
Againt at the prompt type>fastboot erase cache
Success message
At the prompt type>fastboot reboot
Once rebooted check if you have the Superuser application in the app Drawer
Did you manage to get recovery installed ok?
