I've got a Hero running LiquidSense and everything's working great. Except that I dropped the phone and now the earpiece stopped working. So I was going to try and get a refurb from Sprint. I made a fresh Nandroid backup of the phone and plan to restore it to my replacement phone (assuming Sprint gives me one). But will that restore my SMS text messages, too?
Your concern should really be can a nand on one phone be restored to another. If that's the case, then yes your sms, and everything, are in there.
AFAIK It just makes an image of the current state of your phone it really doesn't even know/care what it's backing up.
If it can be restored, it will be like you never left it. (Except for a few special things like the prl and the radio, afaik.)
Is there any reason I wouldn't be able to restore a Nandroid backup on one Sprint HTC Hero to another? Assuming the original was no longer in-use?

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work once the new phone is rooted.

I'll bet they can actually fix the phone.
Yesterday my earpiece stopped working (speakermic still worked) brought it to my local non-Sprint Sprint store and 15 minutes later it was all better. They even did it for NO CHARGE (my phone is out of warranty and I have no insurance on it)

A few months back i did my first Android experimenting with my girlfriends Sprint HTC Hero she wasn't using anymore, because we switch her over to a Palm Pre. So I took the Hero she wasnt using anymore, rooted it and updated it to CM6.0.0. Of course it didn't have service and everything I was doing was over wifi at that time. Well, her Palm Pre jacked up on her so we had to pull the Hero out and put her back on it. We got her switched over to the Hero on the website. She can make and receive calls fine and receive and send text fine, but cant send or receive MMS or transfer any data. Browser just says no connection. I saw on another thread, something about updating profile and/or prl under settings but I dont have that and i guess because i dont have Sense. Is there something i can do or am i going to have to install a new ROM? if i have to do another ROM, what do i need to install? i have done alot of stuff with Windows Mobile and GSM over the years, but i'm not too savvy on Android and CDMA.

Try flashing a different rom. If you have the correct data plan which I'm guessing you do and a different rom doesn't help ruu that ***** it'll return all your settings and then update prl and then profile.
Okay so basically I have two phones, The Htc Hero and the Samsung Transform. Long story short my transform broke so I activated the hero via the sprint website. The hero is running Evervolv. I get service just fine, but I cannot connect to the net. Ive had this problem with my transform and fixed it by going into settings, about phone, system updates, and updated my profile and prl. However the hero doesnt have this option, any ideas guys? Thanks.
u need to be on a sense rom to do it
Ah okay, so if I flash a sense rom and set it up, then I can flash back to another rom?
yes just make a nand of your current rom and your fine.
i suggest using this rom its pretty much stock.
when the rom is installed go to settings about phone software update and update prl then when thats done update your profile.

Awesome thank you.
also when u activate a phone it can take up to 48hrs for it to be fully functional that could be the reason u dont have data.
when radio shack first activate mine it was a Friday and i could make calls and send texts, but i couldn't receive them until the following monday.
I finally had enough of my D3 physical keyboard skipping, so Verizon is shipping me a "like new" replacement phone.
This is my second replacement, again due to the keyboard; the last time I had to rebuild my phone, I used Titanium Backup to backup all my apps+data from my original phone, then restore on the new phone (after rooting, installing Titanium Backup, etc.) It seems like that took more fiddling than I was expecting (no, I don't recall what I had to fiddle with, just that I had to switch my Verizon account back and forth a couple times during the process).
So recently it occured to me - can I use Safestrap to make a backup of my old phone and restore it on the "like new" phone? Has anyone done this? Can anyone think of why it would NOT work?
I also plan to first take a Safestrap backup the new phone and then restore that backup on the old phone, so I don't have to worry about SBF'ing my old phone back to what will look like a standard phone to Verizon, when I ship it back to them.
Thanks,
Chad
Sorry, i'm offtopic, but your D3, did you sbf back then send it back? I'm also sending my D3 after camera issues (and after I got my phone, game issues as well, as some games wouldn't play on my old D3) i'm just leery about the $500 fine warning for software mod. i did SBF before I popped the battery out...
and the answer would be yes, why not? The nandroid would have the exact stuff that would be recorded (almost, i think).. they are exact replicas, as long as it's still a Droid 3.

If you are receiving the exact same phone (Another Droid 3) you can make a full nandroid backup, then restore it to the new phone, then manually move the contents of the internal storage to the new phone. I've done this several times with a few Droid Xs and OG Droids.
You will then just have to have Verizon change the account to the new ESN and it'll be exactly like your old phone. It would be a good idea to SBF the phone back to stock before sending the defective one in, search the forum for a one-click method, there's several out there, just make sure you match your system (Mainly 890 or 906).

Just make sure you get back to stock. Verizon does not like us playing around!
First off, under the "Sure - what could go wrong?" philosophy, I restored the Safestrap backup from my defective phone onto the replacement one, and it worked. Mostly. A couple apps didn't restore, like "Bad Piggies", but I wasn't able to restore those via Titanium Backup, either. I found a directory on the internal SD card that looked like application data, so I copied that between the phones and the applications seem OK now, more or less. I also had to resync my Bluetooth headset. I may play with these things more later, and I'll see what else on the internal storage looks like it needs to be moved.
For the first replacement, I SBF'd back to stock before I shipped the phone back. This time, I plan to restore the Safestrap backup of the replacement phone (which I made before I started messing with it) onto the defective phone . Then I'll remove Safestrap, make sure the internal SD card doesn't have anything suspicious on it (like my Titanium Backup key), then ship the thing back to Verizon.
Thanks for all the advice!
Hey guys I upgraded from my M7 yesterday to my HK edition today. I have a few questions hopefully y'all can answer for me.
It seems to me that I am having the same issues other people are having. At my sprint store (I am a sales rep) I had 4G LTE all day yesterday no issues. I get home and BAM can't connect to 3G/4G at all. No phone calls. No texts. One sales rep seen a 26% block rate on service trender and seen that my most frequently used tower at home is not connected to my phone. I figured it might be because I just upgraded to a tri-band device. My M7 had full bars 4G all the time when I was home. The other sprint rep said I could have a defective device. My friend who lives 3 houses down has a regular M8 and I am waiting for him to get here to see if he has similar issues..but his phone might connect to other towers. I went to my nearest sprint store after customer service spent 30 minutes trying to manually program the phone. The phone refused to activate over the air I literally had to drive down about ten minutes to my local sprint store so it would connect to 3G to re-activate.
1.Is there anyway besides the HTC backup tool to backup the phone? It took me about an hour and a half yesterday to use the tool to restore all my pics as well as manually re-download all the apps.
2.How hard is it to root the special HK edition? Is it worth the trouble rooting then performing a nandroid? Because I might have to send the device back to sprint I will have to send it back completely stock, and for all I know my data issues might persist through a nandroid backup.
3.Has anyone found a solution to receive texts through Wi-Fi? I know sprint launched the Wi-Fi calling but unfortunately the M8 doesn't support it yet. Thanks everyone.
You should keep your bulky data (Pictures, Music etc.) on the External SD Card.
Then just pop it out and into the next phone.
There is many levels and ways to back it up.
I use Exchange (my work) for Contacts, Email and Calendar. I set my wife up on Exchange through Hotmail (lot nicer than google in my opinion).
Let Google Restore all the Apps and some settings (WIFI, Theme etc.).
I also root and Backup through Recovery. But if I want to start from scratch it doesn't take too long.
I use Dropbox for Photos.
I've never used HTC Backup.

He was coming from M7, so SD card wasn't an option.
Titanium Backup can backup to Google Drive, but that may only be the paid version (totally worth it).

I ended up having to order a replacement. I'm back on my M7 for now until the replacement arrives. I think i might root and to titanium and then flash back to stock.
Hi everyone,
I'm on the jump program with T-mobile and am sending back my One M9 because I got a Note 5. My M9 is rooted, S on and running Android Revolution.
I tried going back to stock using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59847287&postcount=19 (which I had used before for updating the firmware), but it is not working now (maybe because I can only find the nandroid backup for 1.32 and the firmware has been updated since then).
Does anybody have a link to a nandroid backup for the most recent firmware? Or, If I were to send the phone in as is, rooted and modified rom, what would happen? Do they even check?
By the way, the employee already checked my phone and accepted it as a return, I just have to send it in within a month.
Thanks!
Both times I turned in phones it was obvious it wasn't stock and the store employees never said a word.
I sent back my N3 rooted and they didn't care as well.
My experience is not exactly the same as yours but when I left Verizon, I traded my M7 to get the M9. My phone had CM running on it and all the employee needed was the IMEI number. She turned on my phone to make sure it boots (She thought the CM animation was cool hehe). Despite not showing any stock software, they took the phone with no questions asked
I unroot just in case
