Best ebook reader for the Touch Pro?

I've been using Mobipocket on my Fuze but used to use iSilo on my old Kaiser. I've heard some good things about the others too. What ebook reader do you guys use? What do you recommend?

isilo, foxit pdf and chm reader basically... im a medical student... i read a lot!!

Are there any with finger scrolling?

I haven't found one that is "finger" friendly but another ebook reader that is available is Microsoft Reader. It uses a format known as LIT but most of the books I see that are good quality are based on Sony's format which are the LRF files. Unfortunately, I haven't found one that reads the LRF format and the converters that I found do not support a conversion of it either..

i use mobipoket and foxit reader (although documents to go with PDFtoGO is a good alternative). Haven.t used isilo yet but heard good things about it

I like Adobe Reader LE 2.5. It is surprisingly fast (considering Acrobat's notorious slowness on the desktop) and the reflow option is extremely useful (if only there was a way to save the zoom and the reflow option...).
The only other PDF reader I tried is Foxit, but I just don't like it. It's significantly slow (again, surprising considering Foxit's speed on the desktop) and the massive advertisement on the top is rather annoying.

i can scroll thw three of them similar to opera mobile... i just drag.

I love eReader from the fictionwise folks. I have been using it for years. Check it out at http://www.ereader.com. The reader is free and the books are reasonably priced. You can configure the reader to look the way you want it to look. I like black text on white background but they have a bunch of themes and you can make your own theme. The books are all properly formatted to look good in on your phone.

I'm surprised that ereaders aren't being kept up -- most of them see like they haven't really changed in years, back when I had an Axim. Why aren't developers working on ereaders? not enoguh demand?

That's a good question. I noticed the same thing. It's interesting that the sw for the mobiles is declining, but the hardware solutions are expanding...i.e. kindle, etc.

Mobipocket is still my favorite. I was hoping great things would happen once Amazon bought Mobipocket, but it seems like the Kindle has dashed any hope of that. Looking through the forums at Mobipocket.com it looks as though any future development may be over. At this point I think it would be hard to change readers since I've collected a huge library in Mobipocket. Maybe if Barnes & Noble get around to porting their reader to WM I'll give it a try.

It's free, and the technique the program uses to fit your text/pages to your devices' screen is brilliant. I also use repligo pdf server which batch converts unlimited pdf files to the repligo format.

Yeah, ereader is pretty nice. I've used it and mobipocket, and got away from ereader for a couple of years. I just went back to it, and think I like it better than mobi. The themes are nice, and I like the fact that it has real pagination. Mobipocket is a pain in the butt, because if you skip back a page when you first open it up (or even after just minimizing it), it will hop back like 10 pages. It's really easy to lose your place. You don't get full page with ereader, but I find that isn't a problem for me. I also like the flash reading mode-it's pretty nice if you want to re-read a section that you forgot, or if you're currently reading a section that you want to forget.

Comics App

With "The Walking Dead" just finished up I would like to read the comics as I have heard that they are much better. Are their apps for reading full comics or are the apps just for daily strip type stuff? Not looking for pirated stuff. I am willing to pay but just don't have any experience with them and didn't see much on a quick search.

There's 3 that I've fooled around with:
ACV
PerfectViewer and
jjComics Viewer
All available in Market. I like Perfect Viewed the best but it crashes under latest TNTLite, so l've settled for ACV.

I use jj Comics, it works like a charm. I had tried ACV and it just did not do it for me since I currently do not have an SD card in my G-Tab.

Walking dead is an excellent comic

Been reading Walking Dead all weekend - great graphic novel.
ACV works fine for me. It's not perfect, but for the price (free) it's awesome. I also purchased Comic Reader Mobi when it was on sale - if opens up files that ACV won't and does track what you've read, but the zoom in function is pretty useless on a 10 inch screen.
EDIT: I misread your first post - you are looking for a way to actually purchase digital comics, instead of buying the print version / scanning them or that other way that we won't mention. Tbh, I don't have an answer for you -- it seems that the comic book publishers are more heavily invested in the iPad than Android, at the moment (I guess I can't blame them).

Purchasing does seem to be a little more difficult or I am just not looking in the right place. I was asking about both parts really but I didn't mind trying out a few players and the suggestions here were very helpful.

Aldiko vs GBooks vs Kindle vs Nook readers?

I've always used Aldiko, but it seems to be chopping the first line on each page. Can anyone else comment on their preferred reader apps? I'd prefer an app thats not associated with a content provider, but am open if the app can read non-provider books from my own collections.

I read on a post somewhere here that setting margins to 70 and text to 16 (IIRC) should sort the problem on Aldiko. Don't have mine yet so can't confirm.

Kindle. Locked downish and not landscape friendly, but probably best selection and most relaible.
Nook. Awesome but needs some honeycomb improvements. Probably most promising. Can read epub books.
GBooks. Solid, can sideload, not sure I love it though.
I use all four and that's what I love about options. Most of my content is on Kindle since I own/use a kindle device as well.

use moon+ reader, looks great on xoom. You shall give it a try

I'm a big fan of the Nook software. Can side load epubs from your own collection. Works really well in landscape or portrait.

Does any of these have the fancy shmancy page turning effects? Not necessary but it'd keep me away from using Google Books on the Xoom once I get mine.
I'm using Aldiko on my Nexus one, and I love it to bits but no fancy animation though.

I have tried all of the above and find Coolreader to be the best. it has various customization options that make it the best reader for me
Left tap to turn page forward (use swipe to go back)
adjustable margins
Swipe down on left margin to reduce brightness (stanza feature that i super lover on ipad)
Lock screen orientation in the app. that way I dont have to lock orientation at system level
Opens epubs directly from Dropbox

In aldiko bring up the menu, settings, text, and increase the margin by one. That will fix your problem on the xoom if that is your only reason to switch.
Personally I use all 4 of the apps depending on what I an reading.
- all 4 can sideload as long as your book is in a supported format.
- I prefer the kindle app for reading technical texts. It has the best options for markup which is useful for reference material and studying.
- the nook app also has markup but not as good as the kindle. I find the nook store to be a little more intrusive but not too bad.
- Google reader is fine for reading fiction and such but the inability to do markup limits its utility for me. For straight reading though I like it.
Aldiko I won't bother giving the highlights to since you use it currently. I would probably settle down on using just aldiko and kindle but sometimes a particular book is only available in a different store.

I use KOBO. Reads epubs and has a great free collection

The Nook software does have page turn effects. Looks just like turning a real page. OK... maybe not JUST like it... but close.

I like Nook the best personally, I just wish it could handle PDF docs as well.
The view is nice, I can sideload, and the store is just fine.

I've been using the nook lately as it supports my personal collection, and i can still use it for the books i buy
my issue with nook
- i get force closes quite often not during reading, just when exiting a book, or the app itself.
- no hooks into free books from places like project gutenberg
my issues with adilko
- it runs a background service for some reason, dunno if this is a really valid complaint, but no other reader software does this
- the landscaped page turn is just ugly
- can't read my purchased collection
my issues with kindle
- if im going to be buying books from somewhere I want to buy them from somewhere I can can buy in person and online... browsing through a bookstore is fun
- can't read my collection
- no hooks into free books from places like project gutenberg
my personal problem with moon reader
- too lazy to learn all the neat features
- can't read my purchased collection

Just tried nook on my Android phone. I can side load epubs but the book covers don't show up on the library...

You say you can side load on GBooks?? Could someone explain how??? I so far can only get books from the market on there...

That was me and I was wrong. Sorry for the misinformation. Kindle, nook, and aldiko can sideload but evidently not Google reader.

I like FBReader myself. Nice simple layout that reads pretty much everything, with color and text options.

I really liked FBReader, but it doesn't seem to keep text formatting for italics and such. Using Aldiko now, but the margins problem on the xoom is annoying. Hate having to have them so high, looks awful on the large screen.

The nook app seems to be the winner for me. It's really easy to load epubs, no converting or anything and they look good. The only downside is that it will FC when you stop reading a book, though it does seem to bookmark properly. Just a minor annoyance.
I would prefer to use the native Gbooks app but without sideloading it's pretty much useless to me.

Aldiko good PDF reader for the Xoom

Just wanted to throw out that I've been using the Aldiko reader as a PDF viewer and have been pretty happy with it.
I am hoping they work on the speed sometime since the Xoom could probably handle some programing that phones couldnt but I've been pretty pleased with this.
You can import PDF files to your shelf and then setup catalogs.
It also saves your place in the PDF if you leave it.
As I said I have been pretty happy with it.

I haven't tried Aldiko on the Xoom yet, as I had some major issues with it on my CDMA HTC Hero.
I tried ezPDF Reader, and so far it has my vote in its speed and functionality.
One thing to note though, is at certain zoom levels it seems to not "re-focus" the text. Other times it will just hang and continually load the page.
Besides those two nagging issues, I'm glad I spent the dollar on it.

I tried Aldiko, repligo, and ezpdf. ezpdf is by far the best. Both in quality (best for math/physics papers), and in speed.

Aldiko seems to FC a lot on my WiFi Xoom. Does anyone know if the paid version is any better?

I tried Aldiko and find the text to be blurry. I've since switched to ezPDFReader and for the same pdf, ezPDFReader is far clearer

I second the above post. I tried Aldiko and found that it did not render the text very clearly. The built in QuickOffice rendered the page very clearly but I do not like the page scrolling. EZpdf was an Amazon App of the Day a few days ago so I gave that a try. I have been very happy with it and use it exclusively for pdfs now.

Do I really need to buy a book or magazine from each one and then remember which one I used to purchase that specific book?

Kindle all the way. Comixology for comics.
I think it's also a matter of buying from one seervice and sticking to it. Now that I have a full library from on Kindle, there is no reason to go to Nook.

that's exactly their plan...
no non-standard fileformat for me, vendor lock-in only hurts the costumer!
for comics/mangas you can use Komik, Mango or on of those stores like Comixology as there not an official file format for these things...
but for books, you can use epub files (the standard) with several programs, mainly Aldiko and Nook (that supports some kind of side loading too). Aldiko currently does pdf files too, (that can be used for comics, magazines, almost anything...) but there are several other options too.

ezPDF Reader for most and Google books for everything else(mainly bc I love the 3d view/although I would love a bookcase.)

Its the opposite here. For me its Nook al the way. I started with the Nook color rooted, fell in love with having an Android tablet so I sold it and bought the Xoom. Until recently I really missed having the nook because I was subscribed to all my favorite mags and newspapers. Luckily the last nook app update allows us now to have those back. Nook has more features that I enjoy like books that read themselves to my children while helping them learn to read, etc. I'm Pro Nook!

Magazines - ezPDF Reader
Comics - Comixology or Komiks
Books - Moon+ Reader
I also have Kindle installed for when I am in the mood to purchase something from Amazon. However I usually prefer to use the free libraries included with Moon+ or buy new ebooks from some of the smaller online stores that really need the support.
As for Comics, I use Comixology for new stuff and Komiks for my collection. I really wish Comixology would carry Marvel comics as well (or create a seperete Marvel app), as it does on the iPad.

Well the Nook is about the only platform that can match the kindle, both are good.
But to me, the reading experience on a tablet is not as good as on a dedicated device with eInk

A plus of the kindle is that you buy once and read on everything you can think of.

I use Moon+Reader simply because I have a sony ereader and just transfered all my epub files over and I don't have to do anything with them. It has a nice bookshelf and a night time or day time screen.

Nook for books and magazines
Reason - Nook is the only app i've seen that lets me side load epub files, has a cool page animation, has dual page viewing, and has the correct fonts. Meaning, when Tucker Max is yelling through his blow horn, the book displyas the font bigger and bolder than the standard font. Nook is the only app i've seen that actually does this.
Mango for Manga
Reason - Streaming and downloading of literally any manga you can think of. It's absolutely amazing.
Perfect Viewer for Comics
Reason - Great library view, fast, reads every comic format, page filtering options, dual page view, quick buttons...on and on and on, it's really an incredible app.
