Okay... let me start by saying, I Love everyone here, and you all have helped mod my phone to great lengths... and my phone is working GREAT!
I am on an ALLTEL CDMA HERO200
Rooted with CM6.1
After I originally rooted my phone, and before I installed CM6.0 ...I upgraded my radio baseband from 2.42.01.04.23 to 2.42.01.04.27
and now upgraded to CM6.1 ROM / Android OS 2.2.1
I have the circular battery mod, as well as custom notification icons
and my signal is always 2 bars sometime 3 and never 4
My question is this... I just now realized that the radio I upgraded to is for SPRINT and I am on ALLTEL... like I said before the phone work fine
but I started looking for a download for the 2.42.01.04.23 radio baseband that I originally had because I was wondering if going back to 2.42.01.04.23 from 2.42.01.04.27 would give me a better signal since the 2.42.01.04.23 is for ALLTEL...
would going back to my original radio baseband make any difference is my signal strength and if so, does anyone have a download for the radio baseband version 2.42.01.04.23, as all I have is the 2.42.01.04.27 version...

NO! flashing a GSM (not CDMA, like sprint) radio is the only confirmed known way to brick. The OP also said his phone was working, so not bricked.
To the OP! my best advice would be to send a PM to member hexskrew, he has built alltel roms, so I assume he has whatever the newest alltel radio is, good luck to you

Thanks for the advice and pointing me to someone who may be able to assist...
and yeah I definitely dont want a GSM radio, lol
If you happen to find a version of the alltel radio, could you PM me or post it, i need it also. Im not having any luck finding one. My data has suddenly stopped working and i think if i update the radio it might fix my problem.
From what I've come up with, AFAIK the radio is just an algorithm of sorts that tells the radio (hardware) in the phone how to search for a signal, and how much power to output in order to find it... so I don't think an Alltel radio will help you much. Just experiment with them.

I am curious I have the Rogers Wireless version of the Nexus One in the mail.
I can't get a definitive answer on if cyanogenmod will work on it without a problem?
I sure hope this isn't like the Rogers version of the G1.
Thanks,
Not at all like the Rogers Dream. The AT&T/Rogers version (I have read), is identical to the Tmo, except offers Rogers/AT&T 3G Band, 850mhz.
Procedure is the same as written elsewhere. You can skip the step for upgrading radio, I believe the newer N1's shipped with the newest radio. I don't have the instructions, followed the CM wiki. Just remember to skip the radio update part of the instructions. I believe the radio update allows root on stock ROM. When you upgrade to CM ROM for example, it is already rooted, which is why you can bypass this step.

Yes, you can install CM and it will work without any problems... essentially, the devices are the same, except for the radio... which is why there is a new RIL library and firmware module...
CM 5.0.5+, Enom 1.7.1, MCR 1.9+, ModacoDesire A16+ are all compatible with the new N1 and have the latest RIL & Firmware module...
And yeah, the new N1 has the latest radio image, so you don't have to update/faslh the radio...

I wonder how radically different the Canadian N1 is to the US N1!
The only risk/problem you will expose yourself with tinkering is if you mess up with flashing the radio firmware. I used the latest cyanogen, recovery, and bootloader all while retaining the original radio firmware. (why fix it if it aint broken?)
Hi all!
I have a CDMA Hero, that can run and is running Sprint branded ROMs with no issues. My service is through a regional carrier called Carolina West Wireless to make it clear, not Sprint. I've run several Sprint branded ROMs and currently have AOSP 2.3.2 without any issues with roaming or anything like that.
My question just is would the 2.42.02.10.29 radio update, as posted by theimpaler747, work for me? Reading through the threads I can't see where this has come up so I hope I'm not repeating a question.
Thanks!
I already upgraded this version radio, looks like no side effect and impact. But I don't know what improvement or bug fix for new version. BTW, I'm from China, using Carrier China Telecom.
AS long as you stick with a cdma hero radio, you can flash it fine. At one point, people here were even flashing a verizon radio from the eris, and it worked fine
Thanks for the responses, I flashed the new radio, no problem!

Recently I played with radios a bit.
I tought the retail Brazil radio would work perfectly in my zone, but I was wrong.
I lost internet access with it.
The 4.2.1.1 radio kills the signal strength and also the internet connectivity.
Then the Telstra 4.1.4.2 radio. It works well, but the phone heats a lot. Also there's occasions where you loose the signal completely then in a few seconds you have full signal again. And sometimes you loose internet connectivity for a few seconds or until you reboot the phone.
Actually I'm back at the 4.1.8.3 radio.
Josuetenista asked me to upload the retail Brazil radio so he can try it.
To anyone willing to test it on an AT&T Atrix, be advised this will kill your internet connectivity. Phone will show 3G but won't send nor receive data.
I've included the 4.1.8.3 radio so you can return the phone to its original state.
These SBFs are for AT&T phones only.
You can download them HERE.
Hi Whipon, would you like to upload all the Radios for the At&t Atrix? Currently I'm at Capital Federal (Movistar, carrier) and constantly loosing signal and H+ connectivity all the time, so I would like to mess with these radios a little bit.

I see. So I'm not the only one not having HSPA in Argentina.
I only have the Retail Brazil and the Telstra one that dew.man uploaded some time ago.
The 4.2.1.1 radio kills the signal almost completely, so I deleted it. I can rebuild it if you want, but I don't see the point.
Currently the best radio seems to be the 4.1.8.3 one.
I hope this HSPA issue will be solved with Gingerbread.
What other radio do you want?. I can make you one with the Claro Brasil radio.

Thanks Whipon. I will try it and let you know how the radio works here in ecuador. Im still having lot of problems with the 4.1.83 Radio. Hello,
I have a question, why are you guys talking about the different radios and post System Versions instead of Baseband versions?
Baseband means Radios and heres an example of different baseband version numbers:
N_01.87.00R
N_01.77.15P
N_01.77.07P
Etc...
Just curious...

I have the same problem with 4.1.83 dropping calls in Personal Argentina. 4.1.57 was the best I think.
Guys, Don't get me wrong but I really think that it would be more helpful if you talk about radio versions by using baseband numbers instead of system version numbers.
Saying that you are on X system version does not necessary imply you are on Y radio version.
For example, I'm on system version 4.1.83 but my radio or baseband is N_01.88.00R which is not standard for my system version.
I'm just saying...
Thanks!

cuz flashing sfb is not necessary to change the baseband version
and this radio is working perfectly on ATT Atrix and its HSUPA enabled...

First, the radio only SBF some posts above doesn't work on an AT&T Atrix. Period.
It uses diferent ram downloaders incompatible with the AT&T one.
If you try to flash it, you'll get an error in both the phone and RSD Lite.
Second, knowing this, I would like to know how these "lots of people" tested the radio not having a working sbf to flash it. I've tested it, making a working SBF myself and all ended with the results I described. I can upload the SBF if anyone is willing to test it.

Hey I would like to flash the Deepshining v6.1 rom to my HD7S. I am wondering one thing, when I flash back to NoDo, will it affect the radio since it is not an AT&T radio? Oh and one more thing, if that doesn't bother it, then will the Deepshining rom mess it up since it is for the HD7 (Tmobile or other euro version) not the AT&T version? I just want to make sure the radio will work fine (getting 3g and all).
thanks!
P.S. if it will mess it up, is there another radio I can flash to make it work? I really want to be able to side load apps.
You should be fine, I flashed the DFT rom to my HD7s and everything is working fine

use HTC Connection Setup to fix your data.
H is 3G or 3G+, depends on the Custom ROM using and what the chef set it as.
How did you do it? Is everything still working?
Hi mtweisenbarger ,
I also have the ATT HD7S and would like to flash the DeepShinning rom as well. How is DeepShinning ROM working for you, currious to see if you are still using it.
Trying to follow all these instrunctions from different pages is quite confusing. I just wanted to find out if you had to use the GoldCard method. I think once I get that piece done the rest will be pretty simple, I just wanted to confirm that you had to use it.
Any followup and advise would be much appreciated!
Thx!
Is it possible to switch between CDMA custom ROMs (and use Verizon) and GSM custom ROMs (and use AT&T/T-Mobile)? I'm assuming that the answer is yes, since switching between CDMA and GSM is a software thing?
Yeah it's just a radio flash and a build.prop change. Some people have played with CDMA Workshop and gotten parts of CDMA on the 883 radio to work with Verizon but they haven't been to specific on the steps. The only true way I know how is to switch between 883 radio/build.prop and 862 radio/build.prop.
are all roms safe for use after flashing the xt883 radio for gsm use?
Yeah you just gotta replace the build.prop. Most of the ROMs I've made an 883 prop for but just use Root Browser Lite and start reading through them and study the differences and you can quickly learn to edit your own.

Right. You have to flash a radio from the AT&T/T-Mobile thread.
