[Q] [h] Wi-fi connection dies and reconnects automatically - Nook Color General

Hello everyone!
I am living in Ukraine and I bought my own Nook Color perfect device!
After one day usage I uptadet to 1.0.1 and rooted it (AutoNooter)!
But before (both 1.0.0 and 1.0.1) and after rooting device i had and still have wi-fi issue:
It connects perfectly to my Virtual HotSpot (Windows 7 + notebook) but after some time (approximately 3-10 min) connection dies and automatically reconnects.
I didn`t try it on public HotSpots, maybe this issue is specific only for my virtual hotspot? But my android phone and PC connects to this HotSpot perfectly and works fine!
Has anyone same problem with Wifi? Is it possible to solve this issue?

I have tested with my TP-Link wireless router today! It goes perfect
It seems that nook color has specific wi-fi device or bad driver.

Droping WiFi

Hello all,
I have a problem with WiFi connection. I have a Airlive GW-300NAS router set with dynamic IP over dhcp. The thing is that my O2X drops wifi connection when screen is off. Ive tried all sleep policies on phone. Tried different settings on router. Open/WPA/WPA2. Also TKIP/AES. Tried changing channels. But when the phone is asleep in some time wifi drops. It is happening with all roms Ive tried (Stock/CM/MIUI). When I unlock the phone it connects in few seconds.
But with my other devices everything is OK. My other HTC phone works good, laptop also.
Any thoughts?
I'm having the same problem. At work (with a Belkin router) it drops. Sometimes I have to turn off the wifi and turn it back on to get it to connect again.
At home it works much better (with a Cisco modem/router), but not perfectly. My HTC desire and Asus Transformer never had any problems.

My Razr i makes WiFi drop/crash

Hi folks !
Recently I started to experience some troubles using my WiFis connections. The problem is simple, the connection drops, the WiFi network disappears from all the devices, and a few seconds later it comes back.
At first I thought it was a problem with the router of my work. But then I started to experience the same things at home. Then I decided to test the WiFi without connecting my Razr i to it and it worked like a charm. Now, as soon as I connect my Razr i to a WiFi, it crashes a few seconds/minutes later and keep doing it until I disconnect my phone from the WiFi.
Did someone experience the same thing ? Have you any idea for solving the problem ?
Thanks anyway.
PS : I only use 5Ghz WiFis. I'll try with 2.4 soon but the 5Ghz compatibility was one of the reasons why I bought this phone...
We have also issues with our WLAN at home, which is sometimes (but not always) very unstable in connection with a Samsung 5 Laptop (regular reboots shortly after activating the laptop Wifi).
I did not experience this problem yet with my Razr i, but I will keep it in mind over the next days (we have a complex setup with several computers, phones and Android entities based around a Fritzbox 7390, so error identification and validation takes very long and is not finished yet).
BTW - if you look for help here, please specify your WLAN router in detail as well as your provider and general IT-setup.

Well ! Thanks for the reply.
My router that provides the two WiFis is a Cisco Linksys WRT61N.
My setup is kinda complex but works well. Got another router provided by my ISP, which is the DHCP server. This router is connected to a port of the WRT61N switch. Not to the internet port. Every connection that enters in the ISP router goes to the Linksys, and then is NATed by it. I don't think those informations are very relevant but anyway here they are. That's a complex setup but it works well (needed to do that because I have cable connection, and the cable modem/router have very limited configuration).
The devices that use my two WiFi are :
2.4Ghz : My Razr i right now.
5Ghz : Two iPads, and the HTC 8X of my girlfriend.
I made some other tests, one the Razr i there is an option for switching on or off a kind of network frequency. So instead of both enabled, I enabled only the 2.4Ghz WiFi frequency and connected my phone to my 2.4Ghz WiFi. No problems detected. Stable connection. Right now I'm at work, and everything works well in 2.4Ghz. So there is clearly a problem with the 5Ghz frequency on my Razr i.
Anyway, during those tests, I discovered something very interesting. My battery life had a huge improvement with the desactivation of the 5Ghz WiFi frequency.
Thanks for the details - especially on the 2.4/5 GHz topic.
I am also at work right now, but will check it at home and keep you posted.
WPA2
I had the same problem, I think it was triggered everytime the phone went to "sleep". It was changing the security encryption that fixed it for me. I can't remember what i had on the router as default, and I'm not at home right now to check what I'm running, but I believe it's WPA2. After the change, I had no trouble whatsoever. Hope this helps, good luck!
EDIT: nevermind what i said, i just logged into my router and remembered it wasnt the encryption type settings, but rather the wifi standard used, it used to be 802.11 b+n+g, and now i got it sitting at 802.11 b+g, which equals to 2.4 GHz. Meaning the razr has apparently a problem with the 5 GHz spectrum..
I too have a RAZRi which is connected by wi-fi at home to a Fritz!Box 7390. I noticed that when the RAZRi went into sleep mode with wi-fi connected (keep wi-fi on setting) it would have lost any internet connection on waking, requiring a disconnection/reconnection to reset. More annoyingly there was also a loss of connection (IP address) at laptops also connected to the router by w-fi on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz connections, which needed a reboot of either the PC or the router to re-establish a connection. The router GUI would show them all as remaining connected.
By using the manual setting on the router to restrict 2.4GHz connections to b+g (not b+g+n), it looks so far as though both problems are avoided, and the RAZRi can be set to use either the available 2.4GHz or 5GHz (a+n) connection on the Fritz! successfully without problems. EDIT big problem is though that disabling "n" on 2.4GHz seems to cause wi-fi throughputs to crash by more than 50% on both frequencies (which for me negates the benefit of having VDSL) - they recover if I re-enable, but then the lockups start if the phone is connected. A hobsons choice.
Thanks guys.

[Q] Problem connecting to Wifi

My Chromecast was working flawless on my laptop, tablet, and phone. 3 days later, my phone's wifi doesn't work when Chromecast is connected to my wifi. My tablet and laptop's wifi works fine though. When Chromecast is off, my phone's wifi works fine.
I restarted the router and the problem persists. I haven't changed any settings on my phone.
Anyone know why this is happening?

The only thing I can think of is to make sure your phone isn't trying to connect ad-hoc to your Chromecast (it does this for initial setup). Otherwise make sure there aren't any router settings that conflict between the two devices.
Your issue sounds similar to mine. What I have happening is, whenever I select a video from my phone it will play for a varied amount of time but then stop. I will look at my phone and it is disconnected from my wifi and the icon turns grey. I have to then toggle airplane mode to get it to reconnect. When this happens every device on my network gets kicked off of my network. Now I am running a custom rom on my phone and have data issues throughout the day. So, I don't know if it is because of this or if anyone else is having issues like this.
Connection
I have issue with browser, on my pc i set up Chromecast it worked fine but i can not see the chromecast in the browser, can anyone help please?
Thanks

Android x86 WiFi issue.

I recently did a full install of android-x86_64-7.1-rc2 on my Laptop Lenovo Ideapad 110. Everything runs. Only issue I am running into is the WiFi connection as it keeps dropping. The weird thing is that when I plug the laptop to a direct connection (Ethernet) the internet connection is completely stable. All my other wireless devices that use my home WiFi are also stable.
Same problem

I also have the same issue.
LENOVO ideapad 110
Did you find solution?
I have Dell Inspiron Mini i installed Android-x86-8.1-r1 and only frist time after instalattion wifi work fine then when i restart Android wifi connection lost and no showing in wifi connections.
How to fix that?
Any update on this? I have an ASUS vivo pc with the wifi constantly dropping.
I have the same issue, using Chromebox with 9.0 rc1
Same issue here on a dell Pavilion DM4. Wifi worked on initial setup and then suddenly drops and cannot turn it on.
I've been having the same problem on android-x86_64-9.0-r2.iso (baremetal install/no VM, on asus laptop ux305fa). Found a workaround to get wifi back up and running:
Ctrl-Alt-F1 (to switch to console)
su (to get root)
ip link show wlan0 (shows wlan0 as DOWN)
ip link set wlan0 up
ip link show wlan0 (shows wlan0 as UP)
ping address-for-wifi-router (works now)
Ctrl-Alt-F7 (to switch back to GUI)
GUI at this point shows wifi is status is "connected" to my router, which I set up before with password and everything. Before I did the manual workaround, turning on the wifi slider button in the GUI caused an endless hang condition.
So the question is, why does wifi get hung up in the first place?
@colonal35 @panda9 @dbroadus2007 does my workaround have the desired effect for you?
UPDATE: in my case, after fixing as shown above, wifi came up automatically after next reboot.
UPDATE2: I noticed that after applying my fix, my wireless mouse does not work anymore. Could it be that the orioginal problem occurs because ax86 gets confused when there are two wireless devices wifi+mouse (+bluetooth, but bt seems not affected). Strike the preceding. After next reboot the wireless mouse is working again. At least so far.

Just writing to share my almost-successful experience on this.
Symtpom: Many months ago, I installed Android x86 9.0 rc1 on one of my spare laptop (a Dell Latitude E5530, FWIW). It worked fine at that time. I did not use it since then, and recently when I booted that laptop, the WiFi icon in notification bar is dimmed, and the machine keeps "searching for Wi-Fi networks...".
Trying to follow @reikred 's workaround above, but in my case, the initial "ip link show wlan0" already shows wlan0 as UP, and then toggling "ip link set wlan up" or "... down" does NOT change the "ip link show wlan0" status at all. Inspired by @reikred's idea, I use "ifconfig" instead. "ifconfig wlan0 down" and "... up" can change wlan0 status. And then, the WiFi works ... momentarily. After I read a couple web pages, the WiFi hung up again.
But thanks for @georgeellis28 's sharing, the workaround of plugging in an ethernet cable does work! That is a pleasant surprise. I was not aware that an Android device would work with ethernet.
Well I have the same problem and I've figured out what the issue is. The wireless adaptor isn't supported in the version of linux that android x86 is using, specifically the Realtek 8822CE. I think a usb wifi adaptor would work. There may be different versions of the android x86 that work depending on what version of linux is used.

Same problem on HP Laptop.
i used on android 4.4 rc2 but it says "device wlan0 does not exist"

It's not an issue, it works like that... You cannot have both activated at the same time...

Just one question.
If you have smart TV, and TV have WiFi module, why do you need to "share" WiFi to connect TV to network?
Connect it directly to main WiFi network
Good question.
My TV Samsung 48 inches Model UA48H6400 started giving problem like the WiFi connection drops while Netflix moving on playing. The Netflix get stuck at 25%. I can see the Internet WiFi connection lost from TV. Turning off the TV WiFi gets back and Netflix will run for about 30 minutes and then again WiFi connection drops. I have tried changing IP settings to DNS manual and set to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 but the problem exists.
So I did turning off TV WiFi connection from router and connect TV with phones WiFi tethering. So I enjoyed Netflix for 2 days with no Internet problem.
Then the phone WiFi tethering started drops when I turn on phones WiFi hotspot tethering and so far no solution found in YouTube or any other source.
I got another interim solution which is I turn on my phones Bluetooth tethering with WiFi Bluetooth bridge. So Netflix is running no problem so far but don't know when this process will be corrupted.
Hope I have explained the situation.
Thank you
