Power button won't turn on NC - Nook Color General

I'm rooted with latest Auto-nooter as of last night. The power button on the side works fine with turning off the screen and turning it back on and with turning the device off with a long hold. However, once its off, the switch won't turn the NC back on and I have to plug in the usb cord in order to turn it on and it takes a while. Anyone have this problem and find a solution?
This is my 2nd NC and the first one didn't do this, although I might be returning this one too because the bezel is a little loose in one corner.

Sorry please move this to the General forum

I had the same problem with my first run of autonooter. I already had youtube, su, etc when I tried autonooter, which may have been the issue.
To resolve it, follow the instructions to completely wipe nook (system and data areas). Install 1.0.1 update. Then run autonooter again. Be sure to pull the usb cord when nook reboots after autonooter has done its magic. Doing this fixed mine. Good luck!

Remove the autonooter card. replace it with a fresh card so that you can actually use it.

Bricked...Will not boot

So I was playing angry birds on my nook color. things froze up, and i powered down. Well...now i cant power it on (screen remains black) and therefore cannot get my reset count to 8 and cannot wipe.
I was on 1.0.0 and used the original autonooter
My micro sd is not in the slot when i attempt to power the device.
any ideas? sorta freakin out here...
Have you tried booting by plugging it into the power adapter?
If it only boots when plugged in you might be able to get someone to dd a nook color image and you can restore from that...
Otherwise im outta ideas, and a return might be the only option.

EDIT: try downloading the nookie froyo and see if it'll boot that off the sd... if so someone might make a bootable sd" installer" froma dd-ed image.
Does the three button (power, vol up, n button) boot go to a black screen as well?
Details on that and other steps you can try to recover can be found at: http://nookdevs.com/Portal:NookColor#Fixing_problems
I hope you get it figured out! I was going to root this weekend, but chickened out after seeing soo many problems on here, and a couple of bricked nooks!
I had the same issue last night.
Do the three-button push to wipe /data/ and you'll be set.
Power adapter was the first thing i tried...didnt do anything
as for the three button push, that didnt work either.
Guys, i think i have a genuine brick here
I've only seen one real brick (which actually could have been fixed, but wasn't worth the trouble), and that was caused by a corrupted boot partition.
I don't have the knowledge to really troubleshoot your problem, but I'd be VERY surprised if yours is actually bricked.
I took it back today. they didnt inspect it and just asked if it was defective. I just said i put it on the charger and when i came back it was unresponsive.

For future reference, I got mine to this state too, and the power adapter is what got me to actually boot. That's actually plugged into an outlet, not USB, by the way.

[Q] Something's wrong

So I just got the Nook Color. Upgraded it from 1.0 to 1.0.1 and then used the correct auto-nooter 2.12.25. I got signed in to youtube, then gmail wouldn't sync so I moved on to the market. Tried to install apps, wouldn't work. So I tried to shut it down. Well now it will do absolutely nothing! Please help! I've had this thing for 5 hrs it can't be bricked, I hope! Any help is welcome.
Thank you so much

I'm sorry seeddemon, I just freaked out. I've flashed my vogue no problem and I didn't want this thing to beat me. So turns out just holding the power button forever works. Mods can delete, or do I do that? No need for an unnecessary thread.

If your NC crashes on shutdown, it can lead to a strange condition where the LCD is turned off, but the CPU is still on, and tapping the power button won't make it wake back up.
Usually a 30-second power button hold, release, then hold for 20-seconds (or until LCD turns on) will hard reboot the device, no matter what.
Glad to hear you got it back up and going!

Nook not turning on

Help please
Nook color is not turning on at all. I have downloaded the clockwork recovery and burned to SD card, but it is not recognizing the power button press at all.
I have checked the mdc5 and tried the monster root pack as well as the 3.0.2.8 clockwork sd image.
I am using linux to burn the image.
[email protected]:~/Downloads$ sudo dd if=8gb_clockwork-0.7.img of=/dev/sdb1 bs=1M

7200+0 records out

but the power button is either defective, or not even recognized. or there is a deeper issue that I am not seeing.
when plugged into power the nook does charge, but not recognized by the laptop.
I am assuming the next step is to let the battery die, assuming that it is still on some how despite the screen being totally black and off. So 3 days maybe a week How do I tell?
If this is not the next step, suggestions?
Thanks
Mike
What were you doing when this happened and what ROM is on the nook?

One thing I found is that whan I can't power up my NC, use the cable to connect it to you PC and it should boot up. Then either re-flash, repair or whatever.
migrax
Yes I have tried that, no good, I think that I am going to have to wait for the battery to die and see if I can get a recovery at that point, It may take days waiting.
Mike
Is your SD card fully inserted? I had exactly the same thing happen to me over the weekend and it was because the card slipped out (permanently I am afraid) while the nightly update installation was processing.
Yes in as far as it will go.
usb charge cable turns yellow on connection, but no boot.
Will takeing it apart and disconnecting battery solve the issue or case more problems?
How long are you holding the power button, at one time I had to hold it for almost a minute before it would boot?
migrax
two minutes of hold time, no response.

This will hopefully help. If your sdcard isn't burned using the correct reader you will get this exact effect.
Again, hope this helps.

Booted into windows, reflashed the image, connected the nook to the computer it booted, flashed nightly 201 and is now nicely charging.
thanks!!

NC doa?

I just picked up a NC today, got home, unboxed it and put on the charger as per the instructions. The light went right to green so figured it might be fully charged. I tried to turn it on and nothing happens. So I then left on the charger for 4 hours and tried again and nothing. I also tried power +n and still nothing. So I'm guessing its doa and was curious if anyone has had this experience or heard of this happening before.

Might be a silly question but did you press and hold the power on switch until you see the screen flash?
Sometimes you have to hold it for at least 5-6 seconds. It varies.

Yup silly question lol. I did alot of Googling when it wouldn't boot. I tried all methods of powering on and resetting. I think it might have been a bad battery since it went straight to green when plugged in for the first time.
I returned it this morning and as soon as I plugged in the new nc it booted. Now I'm off to search for rooting methods. Thanks!

Congrats on your NC and getting one that works. May I suggest you look into flashing CM7 rather than rooting? It has many advantages over stock or stock rooted. It can also be run from an SD card if you still want to root the stock OS or just leave it alone entirely.
Check out the other thread here asking about rooting vs. CM7 for more details.

[Q] Can not Power Off

I have/had my nook color rooter (1.4.2) and then the lovely update came by...now, I find I can not power off my nook. I hold the power button for minutes and nothing. I normally would run quick boot, but since root was taken away, I can't even get that to work.
I need to fix this so my wife doesn't yell at me too hard.
Any thoughts/help? Please?
Plug it up to the wall charger....not to the computer.....and try it again.

I just tried that again. It didn't work, I appreciate the suggestion, but I'm not sure what being plugged into the wall would have to do with shutting of the nook, but I'm desperate, I'll try anything. I just need it to reboot, I have the crm card installed in the nook. The button used to work. I'm just hoping that when the battery runs down, I'll be able to restart the nook.
Ok, so got the battery run down, managed to get it charged enough to reboot into recovery. Got root back so that much is done. But the power button still won't work.
And I made the mistake of powering it down (quick boot app)
I was able to get it start booting, (got the skull and crossbones Loading screen) but now it is hung there.
Any thoughts? You guys here are usually really good with coming up with something off the wall that works

Yea I do have a bootable recovery SD Card. I re-ran it and still no love with the power button. Can I just use the old old 1.01 image (if I could find it) and take it back to that point?
I can't even to the 8 interrupted resets, because obviously the power button won't work

I think the button is still good. About a month ago I was able to do the interrupted boot process. When I rooted her NC, was when I noticed the button didn't work. Don't know if something with the flash or if I beat the button to death.

From my POV the Physical Button is dead… If you have tried turning off the NC while it was runing on CWM Bootable uSD using the Power Button and it did not turn off then the Button is dead.
Well, at least I have it rooted, and quick boot installed, I also have a CWM sd card in there, so if it happens to bork again, I can just let the battery die and then when it recharges it will power up....
I guess the button is dead, and I've not seen much in the way of instructions on how to repair the button. And out of warranty its probably cheaper to buy a new one than take it in to get repaired, cuz I can't actually get it back to factory state without having the power button to do the factory resets...

There is an app on play store called NookColor Power Button. It is a widget you can configure to do all of the power functions, sleep, power off, reboot, etc. I suggest you get the donate version. I think it is only 99¢. You can configure it for what you need.
