YouTube app touch to retry issue. - Nexus S Themes and Apps

Ever since I forced updated my nexus s to 2.31 via the update.zip download I notice the Youtube
App at random intervals during video playback stops playback and asks me to touch to retry. Is anyone else having that problem?

Did you flash gapps after you flashed the update? Try booting into recovery and clearing cache and dalvik cache then reflash gapps.

Thanks man that worked didn't think I would have to do that

It seems I'm still having the problem with the YouTube app how do you clear davlik cache?

If you're rooted you can do it several ways:
You can do it from CWM Recovery I believe.
The description for Titanium Backup (PRO version) includes a Dalvik-cache cleanser. Other cache cleaning apps might do the trick as well.
(the following methods might require you to mount as r/w to work, Root Explorer is an easy way to do that...)
You can also do it with a file explorer like Root Explorer or estrongs by just deleting all the files in the /data/dalvik-cache folder.
You can also do it from the command line in the terminal or via adb shell with the following command:
from the the computer terminal -- "adb shell rm -rf /data/dalvik-cache/* "
or from a terminal on the phone-- "rm -rf /data/dalvik-cache/*"

I'm not rooted so is there another way?

Not that I am aware of unless you're willing to nuke the whole phone with a Factory Reset.
I just checked to make sure, and the Stock Recovery only lets you clear /cache from it's menu, not /data/dalvik-cache, and when I cleared cache and rebooted, the dalvik-cache had not been wiped (I could tell by the boot time and then checked with root explorer.
Factory reset will clear it, but obviously it clears everything else as well and you end up having to set the phone up again.

Try clearing data under manage apps. That usually helps fix problems I have with apps.

Yeh I tried that and I think its working now. Thanks

I noticed several stop/pause, stutter, start playing on its own again with YouTube on the NS last night. WiFi connection, full bars, 15 feet from an N router. Haven't done much to diagnose it, though.

Sorry I know this post is 2 months old.
Had the same problem with you tube and vimeo on wifi. Didnt notice it on friends wireless networks. When I set my router (old linksys wrt54g) to wireless g mode only, the problem didnt arise. (Only if i lost signal at distance from the router it happened as you would expect) Hope this helps.

[Q] Manage applications FC

Hey Guys, I've been trying to remove some apps that never get used. But when i tap manage applications, the Hero tries to load them but then always force closes about 5 seconds later.
Any tips on how to get around this?
I'm running firmware 2.1-update1
Thanks in advance!
-ben
I've tried to do it after restarting my phone, before I do anything else and still no luck. Has anyone else had this problem?
Try wipe dalvik. I may have gotten lucky, but it solved almost all of my force closes.
U can also remove through terminal or adb if u know the path

Well time to start reading, I have no idea what you two are talking about. Thanks for the advice though!
What apps are u trying to remove. U can go into an app manager and it will tell u the name then go into terminal and use rm command to remove. Example.
Su (enter)
rm /system/app/alarmclock.apk (enter) and it will remove it. Or download android commander on your PC and remove with that. Easier

Can I do this using an app manager such as Astro?

If you have a rooted handset you can use titanium backup to uninstall apps. Does a fine job of backing them up too of course.
Yes u can. I have Linda file manager. Works fine with apps. And as stated above titanium backup as well (must have app anyway)

Terminal emulator SU problem

I'm having issues on damage control 2 with a terminal emulator. Every time I request superuser access in my terminal, my phone hangs and I have to FC the su request. I get the following error:
Activity SU Request (in application Superuser Permissions) is not responding
I don't have a clue what could be done here. I am a bit new to this. I apologize in advance.

i dunno for sure someone else may have a better answer but, i would try and uninstall superuser then reinstall it from the market. if that doesn't work maybe you somehow lost your root. try and re-root the phone and see if that fixes it.
I would probably start by trying another application that requires root if you have any. Find out if its specific to needing root access or if it's just that one application.

Go to settings/applications/manage applications, find super user, then clear data, and try. You'll have to re allow all your root apps again.

[Q] Installation error insufficient storage available. Help!!

Ran into above problem while updating an app on market. I clearly have more than enough space with 126mb free in internal storage and 4.18gb free on sd card. App is 16mb. Googled several solutions but nothing works.
clearing cache/dalvik cache
dismounting sd card before applying update
in adb:
chown system.system /data/app
chmod 0771 /data/app
I'm running cm6.1.2 port for milestone by nadlabak, with memhack installed. Trying not to do an uninstall/install cause there's some data I want to keep. Please help!
Maybe you try to download an apk too big? Try with another app smaller..
If this is from the true market, I believe you can update the app using market.android.com and trying to see if their servers will have an easier time then what you have tried
Good Luck
PM me & let me know how it goes

Google maps is bigger and has updated fine. I doubt a lack of storage is the real issue here...

I tried the methods listed because android market failed to update the app. No problems downloading the app, but installation fails. It's not a corrupted apk either because I've tried downloading over wifi several times.
So I think I may have found the problem memhack looks like it is screwing everything up because you have 2.2 take a look here

[Q] Everything on my phone simply stopped working.

So I woke up this morning and found my phone acting weird. And after a couple of reboots and cursing my phone is acting like never before. EVERY single application is force closing and NOTHING will start or change. I am stuck without being able to turn on WiFI or disable air plane mode. I have not changed anything on my phone that I can think of that would to this. Just suddenly nothing works. I would like to wipe and factory reset but I can't backup my data.
Hope someone can help!
Using CM7.1 stable with glitch kernel (newest)
EDIT: nevermind.. wiped the phone anyways
Try rom manager....fix permissions

Yes I have. It works for some time then the problem slowly creeps back. Let's see how long it will work now.

That is what I did and it came back. As of now, flashing the latest gapps seems to work so far.

I have to state that your thread title is misleading. Obviously, on your phone, at least battery and screen ARE in working condition...
i meant flash a stock rom with odin including pit file... do you experienced those problems?
if that is what you have done there is nothing i can help you, maybe some more experienced people here can help you
I only experience this with cm7.1. Now, yesterday I wiped my phone completely and decided to reinstall cm7.1 and i did. I even restored my apps via market to make sure my backups were not the cause. Now, just a moment ago my phone went nuts and a temporary cure is to wipe cache and fix permissions. Usually it starts with google apps (some framework fc) and then everything goes.

Next time your apps start force closing, and clearing cache, dalvik cache, and fixing permissions does not work, take a look at your /datadata folder and make sure there is space in there. If there isn't, any apps that write data there will force close. Keep that in mind.

The /datadata folder is essentially where apps keep some information. If you try to install an app without enough room there, it will say insufficient space; likewise, if it's really full and an app needs to write data there, it will force close. The size of this folder usually differs between ROMs.
I know Root Explorer shows the size and free space at the top for the folder you're in. I'm sure in other apps you could long-press the folder and there may be an option for folder details or something, but it's really dependent on the app.

Titianum Backup/ ROM Manager/Toolbox Probs

Whenever I try and backup my apps via T.B. it always gets stuck during the process. Yes i have USB Debugging enabled..Unknown Sources checked..and I am fully rooted. Also, whenever i try and fix permissions via ROM manager or ROM Toolbox..it also gets stuck during the process. Any ideas??
Try to fix permissions through cwm recovery
Delete cash and dalvik not data from cwm recovery
Delete cash of titanium and other apps from setting/apps
Make sure their is a space from apps to be backup
Try to install supersu (not superuser) from market and give titanium and others permissons in it

I have SuperSUPRO installed and updated...and I have wiped caches and permissions via cwm recovery. But still t.b. still freezes during a backup...the furthest i've gotten is 38%..and i have plenty of space avail
I have the same exact issue. I think we need to talk to the T.B. dev to look into the issue
Same problem here. Tried all the solutions mentioned above but didn't work. I also encounter the same issue with Link2SD and Root Explorer.
thank god I thought I was the only one..yay I'm not crazy

LogCat
Guys,
Can you attach a logcat while is trying to do a backup with Titanium?
I'm working with support on the issue, and the more logs we have from different devices, the easier it will be for them to figure out where the problem is and how to fix it
Thanks

I had this issue with tibu, not sure on a fix for the others. Get this app from market (above link). Update busybox and sqlite and then go into tibu/preferences. At the very bottom, go twoubleshooting and choose to force system busybox and sqlite. Restart app. See if that works.
