Hello all, i just bought an android G1 from a friend, when it came it was already installed cyanogen mod, then i thought it should of rooted, (by the way i dont know how to root or how to check if its rooted) i am very new on this platform so i have many problems and questions but for now , i tried to change google account which was my frends account to use g1 with all 100 percenti but i couldnt find any proper way to switch my google account, then i finally found hard reset thing and did it, after all i could log on my google on my g1 and i felt a bit shocked with all those missing parts on the android platform as a winmo user before, even my HTC artemis had better skills on internet browsing such flash support over skyfire and easy wifi DNS change and have free web browsing without banned pages.. anyways i was trying to install some games and apps from the market till i got the notification of low memorry ohhh ****, its a nightmare to have hundreds of apps but no place to install, how stupid but then i found a solution on the net to help installin apps directly to your sd card, while i was following this steps on the xda forum pages, i restarted my fone again after having the img file launched with 1.4 version, then i realized all my installed apps icons were lost, then i saw they were gone from my g1 but when i go to app store, they are still on my downloaded programms list, but they are not in storage, thats becase now i cant install them again because they are seen already installed, how can i fix this problem guys , and thanks for the help already.!!!!!!1
Hey, thanks for steppin' up! No matter how snarky I get, or how nice I am, some people just don't get it. It's always great when someone does get it.
If you have a cyanogenmod, then you have root.
How can i get my apps back from the market when they show apps are already installed?
I guess I'd uninstall and reinstall from within the Market App. Open "Market," click on a listing of an app that says it's installed but you can't see in your app drawer (the program for the Home screen and app drawer is call Launcher.apk... apk is the equivalent of exe, more or less). on the bottom of the screen there should be two buttons, Open and Unistall. I'd uninstall and reinstall the ones you want that way.
Yeah, I miss WinMo, too. I still use PhatPad in my old phone and PC. But the capacitive screen really is nicer for fingers, and I'm more addicted to XDA and hacking phones than I am to having a hard-core useful phone (although the native ouTube App beats any I've found for WinMo, and I actually use the native contacts app). I got tired of the bugs, too, since they'd hose the whole OS and force you to decide to reboot. Android just blows past an error and lets it not work, but keeps the OS up. When I'd run out of memory or something in WinMo on an incoming call, the phone would freeze, and then there's a 3 minute reboot. In Android, it just slows down so I get less ring time to answer, but I can call back right away, and it boots in two minutes.
Java makes really nice interfaces and games, too.
I think it'll be about a year or so and Android will be running on par with WinMo (WinPh?) with Flash and alternative browsers apps, and has a few more things to offer that other smartphone OS's can't. It's fun finding them. It's been really exciting watching the progress, and how hard people work for little or no money, just because it's open source.
Oh, and PhatPad was $44. My current Note app, NoteEverything was $2. I miss the stylus and making animations, but that's it. I certainly don't miss Activesync.
yes you are right, but the buttons in the market of that application, are both missing, inactive, you cannot click both of them, thats why i cant uninstall or install or open the app.. i still wonder how to clear the app store cache without factory reset or hard reset which is a really long way to follow.
has anyone figured out how to open ebooks in it?
You need your ebooks (pdf) to be on your SD card I believe on the top level directory. I usually just find mine in Astro and it'll ask if you want to use Adobe to open them then it'll save them as documents you've opened.

Thanks, I just need to find a current version of ASTRO.
Aight, i have adobe reader 10. it does everything i need but can't find the reflow option (make fonts bigger). I dont want to have to downgrade to 9. too slow and choppy. Any help?
So far, the best pdf reader I have found is ezPDF. I use it on my Archos tablet. Has anyone tried this on the NC?.

Works w/ bugs. Getting Special Characters on screen, making the book un readable at times.
ezPDF, Adobe, RepliGo.
Since I bought it as a reader, first thing I did was check a bunch of pdf reading apps. From experience RepliGo works, Adobe works, and ezPDF works. The best of the three is ezPDF, but you need an SD card for the cache. The next best is Adobe.
I don't think any of them have an open feature that allows you to browse for the file you want to open, so they all require a file manager. Adobe and ezPDF both have a recent feature that remembers what pdfs you have opened recently, so that kinda helps.
Could anyone comment on the native PDF app? Does it work in landscape mode? And how well do panning and zooming work? I know in the original nook that zooming didn't really work, but it looks like reviews of the NC say that PDF handling is much better.
I've got a whole of math class notes as PDFs, and trying to reflow on those would be a pretty epic failure.
Thanks in advance!

What do you mean i need an sd card for cache? Will that fix the problems with the special characters? if so, can i just sotore the pdf on the card and u can view it normally, without those secial characters coming up?

Perhaps, I am wrong, but I could not get ezPDF to work without an SD card. ezPDF creates a folder on the SD card where it keeps information on the opened pdfs, configurations and settings. It also has a temp folder which I just assumed to be for memory purposes.
I have tried many pdfs and they look no different than on a computer, save for the occasional LN, which stands for a link. Those special characters don't really interfere with anything since they reside at the bottom.

The native PDF is QuickOffice. There a few things that bother me about it. One, there are certain formats that it does not like for pdfs and will just display a giant x. Two, it does not save the page where you left off. Three, to switch the page, you must swipe down to up as opposed to right to left or tapping the right side. Four, it does not have an indicator to display whether the page is loading or completely loaded. I sometimes find myself waiting on blank pages to do something. Or used to, since I use ezPDF which has an indicator and fixes all the mentioned problems.
To answer your questions about the native app: It works in landscape. You can fit the pdf to width or zoom in and out by using the pinch gesture or tapping the (- +) that shows up on screen. The pdf handling is much much better. The native app does not give you many options, so text reflow is out of the question, which I presume is not a bad thing in your case.

+1 for ezPDF with an SDcard.
Night mode with reflow is great, but I have problems tapping the bookmark button successfully.
Maybe my version of ezPDF is different than yours. I am running it on an Archos 101, not an NC. I am here because I am looking for a smaller tablet and deciding between the Archos 70 and the NC.
My ezPDF has a tab across the top that allows me to select either "recently viewed PDFs" or "all PDFs". The "all PDFs" tab lists directories and can expand the directories individually to select PDF files.
In my experience, ezPDF is way better than Adobe's reader for Android. Adobe's works pretty well, but is pretty basic. There are many, many features in ezPDF that are not in Adobe's.
OTOH, from what I have read in this and the B&N forums, the built-in QuickOffice PDF reader is less than basic. It has no reflow, for example, which I think is required for this type of device. It also seems to not support some common image types or compressions, or at-least folks are reporting pages with red x's across them. The feature set has been reduced from what QuickOffice offers in the actual product.
I find ezpdf to be too slow when it comes to going to the next page.
The stock reader works in landscape but I can not get it to remember where I left off.
I'm still looking for one I like. I wish there was an Android version of Annotate. That's my favorite on the Ipad.
I agree it is slow, but I can't read that fast. For me, the page scroll at the bottom more than compensates for that. The 101 is a bit faster than the NC (1GHz vs 800MHz), but I consider ezPDF so superior that I won't look back.
I assume you mean iAnnotate, and yes, I agree.
sin7, thanks for answering my questions about QuickOffice. That actually sounds like it should work for my needs pretty conveniently, since I'm using it for math references which don't necessarily need to stay on the same page.
I've seen a few people in other threads mention that vudroid works nicely for PDFs on NC once you've installed the softkeys app. Mine is still in the mail, so no personal experience, but that might help some of you still looking for the best app?
Could somebody stick up Adobe Reader 10 apk somewhere? I'm having the devil of a time tracking it down, and I cant seem to find the damned APK file on my phone to pull it off...
Thanks.
- Will.
You can search for the Adobe Reader on freewarelovers.com.
For some reason 10.0 is listed as an old version apk, but you can still download it.
Since I'm messing around with root and experimenting with other things, I find myself reseting my device a lot. The problem is, whenever I reset, I lose all the highlighting I've done in my books. Is there anyway to save this highlighting?
I'm not sure how .epub works, but is the highlighting part of the file, or just something that the nook color does?
Hate to bump my own thread, but it's been a week. Was wondering if anyone knew how to do this?
Maybe just saving the readers data catalog would do it?
Most programs have some settings and so under /data/data/
I have no idea if it works for you or not, but it can't hurt to try.
Note that browsing /data with astro or so makes it appear empty since you don't have read rights there as a normal user.
Sent from my NOOK Color using XDA App
Solution: For those of you wondering how to save annotations,
Using root explorer, navigate to /data/data/com.bn.nook.reader.activities/databases
In this folder you will see a few files, one of which is annotations.db
This would also be a convenient way to view all your annotations in one place.
Okay, so far, mostly good, but have a few questions I'm hoping someone can help me with. I've used autonooter for 1.0.1 (after upgrading the firmware to 1.0.1 of course) and also disabled the cell and telephony services by renaming them to .OLD.
1) How do you get the web button to actually launch a different browser than the stock one? I've installed Dolphin and Dolphin HD and set each in turn as the "default browser" in their settings and mutliple times after multiple reboots. But when I use the 'web' button on the NC menu, it always takes me to the stock browser. What am I missing here?
2) I don't want the 'email' app running. I don't need it, don't want it (have web-based email for everything I need), but can't figure out how to keep it from running. Or maybe I just don't understand what it does? Can someone explain either the necessity of email or how to shut it off?
3) I also notice something called 'social' running. Have no clue what it is and figure I probably don't want or need it running. Can anyone explain this one for me (why I need it or how I shut it off)?
4) Has anyone found a workaround to replace needing a reboot to make installed apps show on the extras page?
5) How to you manage the 'extras' page? As the amount of installed apps grows, the page is becoming more and more difficult to use. Is this something simple I'm missing?
6) I noticed the open book/recently reading icon doesn't work now unless I use the stock launcher. I've read that all you have to do is run it once (then go back to softkeys or whatever) and the button works, but also read that disappears each time you restart (see above). Is there any workaround to having to do this?
7) Is is possible to remap the other keys? For example, make the open book button do something else? Or the keys in the menu that comes up?
8) Lastly...what size microSD card does everyone recommend? Seems anything over 4GB would just be a waste.
Thanks to anyone who responds!

Don't use the Web button. Launch the browser.
Set it to sync manually. Fixed.
Ignore, part of B&N
Use a launcher. ADW Launcher works great.
See above
Pretty sure if you hit the softkey for the B&N apps, hit Library, then tap the Book icon you're talking about it will launch the last book. 2 extra taps.
Those aren't keys, and let's just say no.
Anything under 8G ain't going to have much music or data. Up to you.
Thanks khaytsus but...
1) When you say "launch" the browser, from where do you mean? I tried the web icon in Zeam and it does the same thing. Are you saying the only way to use an alternate browser is to open extras or apps and launch it? So 'set as default' doesn't work on any of these browsers?
2) I set up the email check frequency to never but it still runs once rebooting.
4) Tried using the applications icon in Zeam and ADW, but it still doesn't show newly installed applications until a reboot.
6) Thanks for the suggestion, but the book button still doesn't work.
Any other thoughts?

I'm not sure I understand why that's relevant. Have you posed that question to the hundreds of others on here who have done so?
I am curious why people choose to root.
Just root your own and find out.
Sent from my hacked nook color.
I am rooted. I rooted because I thought this $249 eReader would make a great tablet with the right hacks/rom. So far the market, gmail, calendar and others things work great. Waiting patiently for CM7.
4/5 Theres no readin to use the b&n bar. Use the app drawer (from adw or zeam) to launch your apps. In the app drawer hold down your browser (use dolphin hd or another, the default is no good) icon and it will make a shotcut on the main screen. You dont really ever have to use the default bn stuff.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872295 Do this to put books on your homescreen. Even when u close a book it will remember the last page u were on.
6 Its broke, havent seen a work around.
Hey guys,
Did a search and found people with a similar issue but no solution. I bricked my NC last Friday trying to install a kernel. I got it back with recovery but now my Nook library is empty. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Nook app multiple times but no dice. When I look at my account from my computer, everything is still there.
Anyone know what might have happened?
66 Views and nobody has an answer???
Come on guys, somebody has to know something. It sucks because I can't read the book in any other reader because of DRM or some bull**** like that. When I try to open the epub file in any other reader I just get symbols.
Help!!!1
This is totally just a guess, but you may want to try going to settings/applications/manage applications/ view all and find nook then clear data, clear cache. I read somewhere that this sometimes helps with apps that are acting up. I hope this helps. good luck.

Thanks dude. I have since given up. I started using the Kindle app and that's working for me so far.
Luckily I can finish reading the book I was in the middle of because I have a Pandigital Novel at home.
I basically had the same issue, but it started a little different.
My library showed all of my books, but when I clicked to download them, it said something about could not download, call 1-800-the-book. Obviously I wasn't about to do that.
I searched around quite a bit and never found an answer that worked. I uninstalled Nook app, re-installed, and updated. That made it worse. Now I don't see any books in my library. I signed out, signed in, refreshed, etc. No luck. I moved the app to sd card, that didn't help.
I never did find an answer, so I just switched everything over to Aldiko. They even have steps on how to import books you bought from B&N.
Interestingly, I have the Nook android app installed on my Evo. Both my Nook and my Evo are on CM7. I have no problems at all with seeing my library or downloading books on my Evo.

I tried Aldiko as well. But when I try to open my B&N book it asks for a password. Moon Reader opens the book, but all I get is gibberish I guess due to DRM. Lame.

Here are the steps I followed to get B&N content on Aldiko. Found it on Aldiko help page.
I was able to use the SD Card feature in Aldiko to import DRM'd Nook books on my Android Device.
At the Home screen in Aldiko, tap SD Card.
Navigate to the Nook folder on your device
Navigate to the Content folder within the Nook folder
Tap on the book you want to import (not on the check box, just tap the title)
You will be prompted to open or import, tap "open"
you will then be prompted for a username and password. The user name is the name on the credit card associated with your Nook purchase. The password is the credit card number itself, no spaces.
Once you have been able to open the book, go back to the home page and follow steps 1 through 4.
This time, when you are prompted to open or import, choose "import". The book will be imported to your Aldiko Library.
The reason I open before importing is that there is no password prompt when importing. I did find that once I had entered my credit card info for one book, I was able to import all of the rest of my Nook purchases without opening first, the app seemed to just need this information once.
Enjoy!
Im having the same problem. I completely erased and rebuilt my whole nook - most recent CM7, and the most recent nook app, and still no librar. Tried Aldico and it does not work as there is no content on my card. I downloaded off my pc to the card and it would not read it.
This has happened to me before, I posted in the B&N forums how to fix it.
What worked for me after (a lot of headache) is simply this: on your online B&N account on the PC, move every single book to Archive, then move them back to the library. They should then show up in your NC.
It seems to be a server refresh type of issue.

B&N support had me try moving one book to archive and back and it didn't show up. I guess I can see if moving them all makes a difference.
EDIT: Nope didn't work
UPDATE:
With the Nook app update on the on the market this morning, suddenly my library is back! Not sure what they updated but it seems to have solved my issue, for now.
I'm having this same issue. Nook app one my rooted NC was working fun until one day, poof, library is empty.
I've tried uninstalling, rebooting, re-installing, signing out, moving the app to SD card, etc etc. App is version 2.6.2. Anyone else experiencing this? I tried to engage B&N support but it's pointless.
