Not sure if anyone posted this, but I thought I saw someone mention the lack of apps in marketplace under top paid/top free, etc.
I noticed that when you switch to landscape, marketplace will then load the rest of the apps under each category (continuously, as you keep scrolling). Probably old news, but figured I'd throw that out in case there are others out there that were confused like me, considering it was my first time ever using droid marketplace
new market
The old market will only display 10 apps and 1 app need to be off the screen to enable scrolling.
Download the new market from the post below. copy it to your SD card and use Astro file explorer to install it. The new market is made for tablets and you will not need to switch to landscape to scroll to more apps.

Think I figured it out, just copy paste, dont install
Open astro. Click menu. Click more. Click preferences. Check the box next to browser downloads.
Try again.

Or he could just follow the instructions on the linkied thread...
Still doesn't work, the new one that is. It just crashes when I try and open it. How do I go about reinstalling the old market? It says something about no certificates when I try and reinstall it. Thanks
There are instructions in a thread in the Themes and Apps section.
It involves using adb but it's really no biggie.

I recently installed an app called Moon Phase, and promptly decided it was useless to me. So as usual I uninstalled it. Unfortunately it still appears in the Market as an installed app (even after rebooting). I would have tried to install and uninstall it again, but the buttons in the app's page in the Market are greyed out. How do I go about removing the app from my download list in the Market?

Easiest way is to find the apk online somewhere, install using astro or apps installer/whatever and then going to market downloads section then uninstalling the program again from there.
The hard way is forcing the market database to rebuild itself.

Only do this if it is a free app, do NOT pirate (or support piraters)

Or, a wipe.
Tried various market database fixes myself but eventually had to just find the .apk somewhere else, install with Astro then remove with Market.
The app in question is definitely a free app (this one). I will e-mail the developer to see if he can send me the APK. Thanks for the info guys!
Thanks to everyone much more adept than I am and who write clear directions, I've been able to root my NC and load APK files onto it using ADB. But, being the relative newbie that I am, here's my question--how do I REMOVE applications that I either don't want or that don't seem to work once I install them? I don't see an ADB command for that, but maybe I'm missing it. Thanks!
If you haven't already, install LauncherPro. Then to uninstall apps all you have to do is drag the program icon icon that you want to uninstall over to the the trash can on the homescreen. Hold it over the trashcan until the "drop to unisntall" comes up and then release the icon. Done and done.
I installed Launcher Pro, and dragged the icons to the trash can. But the apps still show up in my list of apps (in Launcher Pro) and in the Extras of the NC. I want to get rid of them entirely. Should I use Terminal Emulator to do that? And if so, what's a good apk file for that?
Thanks!

If you follow my instructions carefully it will uninstall the app. You have to hold the icon over the trashcan until the dialog pops up. Then release.

adw also does this. just as a note.
Additionally, using task killer, open the program, and then open ATK. long press on the app in the list, and select "details/force stop". There's an option to uninstall the app from that list.

I thought I had replied that I had realized I hadn't followed your instructions to the letter but that on re-reading, I recognized you had given me the answer. (I also clicked on thanks). Apparently the "quick reply" didn't get the job done. Chalk it up to my inexperience.
Everybody should be using Titanium Backup. It is probably the single most useful app I have.
You can uninstall, "Freeze", and back up. Its one of the few apps I've paid for and its worth it. The free version is fine too.

It was VERY worth the $3.00 MANY times over...many many many times over.

Just rooted my Nook and love it. One problem though, when I download apps from the Marketplace, they just stay in the Download area of the Market place and do not show up anywhere else. I can run the Apps from the Marketplace download area. What am I missing?

It sounds like you haven't installed a 3rd party launcher yet. launcher pro and adw are great choices in my opinion.
If you want to keep the Nook Color launcher as your default, reboot and your new apps will show up in extras.
Thereis an app called fast reboot in the marketplace that was suggested here on the forums. It works great for a very quick reboot so you can see your downloaded programs.
Interesting that after a couple of days. (I just got my nook on Christmas eve) i don't have to reboot anymore. My apps show up as soon as i download them.

Using Zeme as a launcher currently and it has an shortcut icons area where they automatically show up after installation, downloads are visible via "astro".
Looking for some guidance here, my wifes Captivate is running Launcher Pro (free version), and about a week ago, she received this message as one of those little popup messages, saying "This version of launcher pro is about to expire, please go to launcherpro.com to update"....
I checked the Market for an update, and according to it, there was no update. We saw this message about every other day, until this morning, she goes to use her phone, and basically launcher pro has completely crashed out, and keeps taking her to the web browser trying to open to the launcher pro website.
She has no way to get to her home screen, or any other part of the phone. All the physical buttons on the bottom redirect her to the browser trying to load launcherpro.com, I assume to get this "Update".
I've never heard of this, I run launcher pro too, which no problems. Any thoughts? How can I back her out of using launcher pro as her home app, with out being able to access the main android setting panel?
Can this be done from recovery mode?
Is her phone rooted?
Edit: And is USB debugging enabled?
Yes, it is rooted. I think her most recent launcher pro update (from market) failed to download, or install correctly, and now it's corrupt.
She only has access to the web browser. She can access other websites, but launcherpro.com will not load.
I had her remove battery, sim card, and then reboot phone, no dice.
Edit: I think USB debugging is enabled, but I'm not sure.... I'm at work, she's at home....I'm basically trying to get my plan together, so when I get home tonight, I can tackle this.
I also had her type in the direct URL for the most recent launcherpro update (apk file) which she was able to download, but of course she can't install it....
If she can sideload apps, You might be able to use the browser to download a different launcher (touchwiz, adw ..etc) then uninstall launcherpro and reinstall if you wanted... just use the browser to sign in to xda and download whichever u wanted....if browser wont let you download an apk then you could use adb, download your launcher then adb push it to /system/app/ and reboot (you might have to adb shell to mount /system RW) once it boots u might have to hit the home key for it to pop up and ask what launcher to use..

I got the same message like 2 days back. I went to market and updated my version. It didn't give that message again.
ya, that was the first thing I did, but according to the market, her version was up to date, or at least there were no updates for her to install....
I figured there would be a way for me to sideload something, but I've never done anything like that....rooting via an update.zip file, was easy....
Edit: the other thought I had was, if she gets a market app update notification in the notifications bar, we would probably be able to get to the market that way, and uninstall launcher pro, or install another home app (adw). So I'm hoping an update gets pushed today.

Try ADW. This is one home replacement simple and more or less on lines of launcher pro, well, atleast personally by me.
She needs to get home launcher or something so that she can switch her launcher.
I still use Touchwiz mainly, but I have Launcher Pro Plus, ADW, Live Home, and Netlife Home on my phone as well.
Thanks, the problem of course is that we cannot access any part of the phone except the browser...so once I can figure out how to get to the market, or into the android settings, I will be able to disable LauncherPro.
If anyone has a suggestion of how to accomplish that, it will be most appreciated.

She can't even access the market? If she can get an app called home switcher. That would let her choose which launcher to use. If not you would have to either email the creator or reset the phone if everything she touches makes the phone go to pp website. I don't know how anything she does makes it go to their website to upgrade.
This is my Captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine.

If debugging is activated you could try to adb push a new launcher apk to /data/app/
Go to appbrain.com and you should be able to hook into the Market from there.
You can also use the Android Sideload Wonder Machine from Androidcentral to sideload another launcher or HomeSwitcher. Link
Just connect your phone with USB debugging on, but not connected as a usb mass storage device, select the apk, and click install.
If you are comfortable with ADB then follow the instructions in the link below.

2. Use adb commands to push it to /system/app
3. Press the home button -- this will prompt u to pick one home app, pick the new one, and presto... u have full access to ur phone

MikeyMike has the easiest solution. If on the phone, you can only access the browser. Go to www.appbrain.com, and download another launcher from there(Zeam, ADW,Launcher2) install it and reboot, you should be able to then select which browser to use.
download the .apk from your computer and install using droidexplorer...problem solved
I had the same thing happen to me. The launcherpro website is also down. This seems well thought out. How do you make a program liked by almost everyone and turn it into something I'm swearing at for the last three hours because I need to use my phone as a #(*@^@% phone.
I don't have mine rooted. Stupid thing is I was planning to do it this weekend.
Any of the ideas above work for a non-rooted phone? Can I still sideload something else somehow?
Thanks.

I just installed CM7 on two NC's. I am seeing something strange in the Android App store. Some of the more common apps that I have used in the past like Astro, Facebook and others do not have a download button (or any button for that matter).
If someone can explain why and what I can do to resove this problem that would be great. A side note the NC's are using two diffrent gmail accounts.
Same and I'm using one gmail account. Also it looks like I've had a kinda old version of Facebook installed for a while (1.6.1) without marker stating there was a .2 or a .3 release. I uninstalled the app and that is how I found out about there being no download button. So it might of been a problem with some of the last nightlies as well

It's a problem with new market. Try uninstalling updates in the settings for the market.

I think it is because the new market is device sensitive, our devices show up as B&N nook colors, the market thinks we are running crippled e-readers and doesn't let us download all the cool ****.
Do what koopakid08, go to your application settings > manage applications, find the market and "uninstall updates"
New market looked crap anyway.

What I did was rename MarketUpdater.apk to MarketUpdater.apk.bak by using linux on the sdcard that I'm booting cm7 off of. Not sure how to do it if you're running cm7 on the emmc.
With the help of a friend I found what I had to do so I am able to edit apps if CM7 is loaded on the emmc. I found this extremely useful so I will link the wiki that fixed my issue.

What did you fix? How?
I updated and also have no Download button. The panel that button should be on flashes white. When I uninstall updates, my old market comes back, but after I leave the market, the new one returns, with the download button. After I leave that market and return, functionality falls apart. The main page doesn't open correctly, Download button disappears, and frames become shaky. What's the deal???

LOL! But don't think I'm your new Market, to laugh at you: I'm one of the sufferers with not only download buttons being eaten by Green Dude, but also icons for previously downloaded apps missing. Mine are all free apps, but I can't imagine how people with disappearing paid apps could get refunds now.
Anyone to share his/her experiences with the best/fullest alternative apps marts? Thank you.

I simply downloaded super manager from the market then renamed market updater..
1. Open super manager
2. Enable root function option
3. Use built in file explorer in super manger to find market updater.apk.(should be in system apps...)
4. Rename. I simply renamed (.bin instead of apk...)
This will preventing market from updating...
Hope this helps all....
