Any help much appreciated.

anyone have any ideas?
There have been, but limited. Don't try using droid ones, wont work on the milestone. Buuf was ported, andshould be in that thread around XDA somewhere. Android Hlife de also has a good amount if you read german.

Hello guys, i recently changed from iPhone 3GS to a milestone, and by far im loving the milestone. For me atleast, a way better device than the 3GS in all the ways except for apps (but i can live without them ) Now ive only had my Milestone for 3 days and am a Complete noob to rooting / or updating. On android central, it says its possible to upgrade your Milestone 2.1 to 2.2 Froyo OTA, but i have no clue how to do this if anyone has done it please can you tell me how to do it step by step in a noob freindly guide, im very noob when it ocmes to milestone. , 2ndly if thats not possible, id like to know how to root the phone (from what i saw on youtube Universal Androot looks the simplest) i want to be able to overclock my milestone to around 800 Mhz , also i wanted to put app2sd so i save space on my rom.
any suggestions let me know, again im a complete noob, any help is greatly appreciated

If u use search function u will find lots of guides on how to root. Easyest would be to download oclf from the market and read the help screen that pops up the first time u open the app

I am happily on a nexus s... and in the past, I have rooted and flashed the nexus one, desire hd, galaxy tab and now my nexus s... however, I have a friend that has a rogers captivate... and he just wants to run froyo....
is it safe to assume, it is just as easy as rooting and flashing a custom rom?
Any links or suggestions appreciated, I never care when I tinker with MY devices... but this is a friends.... thx in advance

Short answer to your question is yes it that easy. The link its to the dev forum. There are too many options and choices, best to read and make an informed decision

are you talking about the roms? What is the easiest method of gaining root access on the capitivate? thx
I guess I will read up on it once I have his phone in front of me!
thx
Yeah, it's really just as easy as following the steps. If the Cappy is fairly new it seems it won't have the issues that plagued the earlier runs of this phone so just pick a ROM and go for it.
I have ginger dx (v22) on my x8. On my university I have wi-fi with 802.1x security. (eduroam) My x8 can find the spot, and i enter all e-mail informations and password correct, but i can't connect to it. I know it's not because of hardware, my friend has x8 (official 2.1 android) and he can connect to it with my data.
Except of this problem, everything other on ginger dx work perfect.
I've seen other users also have problems with this, not just with ginger dx , with other custom roms too.
Has someone solved this problem?
Try going to wifi settings, advanced settings then try 11 channel domain.

here is a solution for the eduroam problem (the section "Fixing wpa_supplicant").
http://www.gnuyork.org/en/eduroam-android-2-3.html
my phone (e15i / x8) is now able to connect the university network...
Thank you a lot, i will try it tommorow and tell you if it works.
It works, thank you!
Hi..i tried the "Fixing wpa_supplicant" method and followed exactly the steps provided in the link. However, the same problem still exists. I could not connect to uni wi-fi and it keep goes on like scanning, connecting, disconnecting..
For your information, i rooted my x8 with GingerXperia REVOLUTION V3. Is is because the android version i rooted with is not GingerDX and so, the steps are different?
I even tried to install the certificate provided in the above link and put it as CA certificate but it still failed
Can pls guide me? i a noob here. Thanks a lot.
