Is there a way to use something other than the numeric keypad to lock the screen of the Nook Color? I'd really like something along the lines of the "pattern" lock I've seen on a Moto Droid.
Pattern lock/unlock on rooted N.C.?
yes i would also like this. Anybody know of it, i also checked about this while reading about the nook honeycomb but didn't see the option/ the app.
Think McFly, Think, You think Griff just calls me grandpa for his health!?
As far as I know it's a Froyo feature, not sure if you can add it to Eclair easily. Nookie Froyo has this built in, and it works well.

I use this Phone.apk because i like the layout. I prefer it so much over the standard one, which is included in cm5.0.8 final (and 6 now). It was included once in 5.0.8test3 as far as i remember but was changed finally. Why?
So, anyone knows what version this is and where i maybe get a more recent version of it (doesn't work in cm6 for me)?
Thanks!
idk how it is in the g1 cm6 but in the cdma hero cm6 its included.
Ah - so it's a hero phone apk!?
Thanks for your hint - will have a look for it!
It's the full eclair dialer and it was removed because the G1 does not have a proximity sensor, so too many people complained about their faces hitting the hold button at the top. For a while in CM5, you could select either, but that seems gone as well.
It's still in CM5 and CM6.
Settings > Call Settings > Force Touch Keyboard.
Mine's grayed out with it checked for some reason but it works.

i have it running fine on my dream with Cy6
Well, i knew this option, but never tried it..
At least i don't have to push this apk everytime from now on. Unfortunately CM6 doesn't run stable enough for me on my MyTouch...
Thanks!

This is the phone app in 508. Go to Settings\Call Settings\ click the check box "In-call touch UI". You can even reverse which side the keyboard button is by checking the "Left-hand mode"
Anyone know what happened to the ability to slide to answer? The phone.apk had two slide bars (like the lock screen) to answer, and mute a call. However this feature was removed. Anyone know why/how to use it again?
Does anyone know if this has been backported to donut anywhere? And if so, can you point me in the right direction?

Still works for me on 5.0.8
I have what might be a dumb newbie question, but here goes. Is there a way to hide the B&N circle/menu shortcut on the stock rom? I know I can set my launcher to fullscreen but I'd rather have the notification bar and just eliminate the circle.
I've tried Nookie Froyo, and it was ok, but for some reason a few apps (NY times, google reader) weren't working right under Nookie Froyo but worked fine under the stock ROM. If I could hide the circle I think I'd be perfectly happy with stock...
Is this a silly question? Not possible? If it annoys me that badly am I better off working on my issues with Nookie Froyo instead?
It's part of the stock's notification bar. As far as I know, the only way to get rid of it would be to modify (or get someone to modify) the framwork files, so that it's no longer there. Easier said than done.
nookie Froyo seems like it would be your best bet if you come to really hate the b&n status bar(I know I did).

Thanks, that makes sense!
I will give Nookie Froyo another shot...maybe I can solve my app issues.
I recently picked up a nook to be my go to sidekick tablet but haven't decided which rom I should run with.
I like how nooter and honeycomb roms are naturally compatible with the buttons (or lack there of) on the nook. But at this point the honeycomb roms aren't really at a daily use stage for me (nor are they meant to be) and I have yet to actually run a nooter set up just because Iam a noob and Iam being lazy (I know, shame on me)
on the other hand I am comfortable and familiar with froyo from my phone but for that same reason the soft key button mapping is too awkward for me to get used to. If there is a way to fix the soft keys on the screen at all times that would be great. Any suggestions?

Honestly, I just ran into this issue. I tried to put the softkeys into the status bar but I found it too awkward. Have you considered remapping the Volume Buttons?

For me, I used Root Explorer and it was very simply.
I prefer an application called "Button Savior" in the Market over Softkeys. It leaves a tiny tab in the application you are running, you press it, and Back, Menu, Home, and others show up. I actually keep it on stock settings, since it is so easy to use.

I agree, Button Savior > Softkeys.
Yeah, I was actually aware of Button savior and have it on my phone. I definitely prefer it to Softkeys, if nothing else at least for the fact that the button is less intrusive and more aesthetically pleasing.
I am actually just about the install a froyo rom and try B.savior, dont know why i didnt before. I was probably just too overwhelmed with all the different Roms and eager to jump from one to the other.
I would like to try a 2.1 Nooter build but all the instructions and having to register the market by singing in to youtube have me putting it off.
This is a very simple issue that I'm having that I can't seem to find a solution for (i.e. can't find an option in any menu anywhere) Hoping someone can help.
I have CM7 installed on my Captivate, and I'm not sure if this is a CM7 feature or Gingerbread, but Id like my phone to wake up (I don't care if it stays locked) when I receive a text message (I think there may have been other instances when the screen didn't come on when I expected it to, but SMS is the big one). It currently does whatever I have it set to do in terms of vibrating/ringing but I'd like it to bring the screen on as well.
Anybody know how/if I can enable this?

Hello xda,
After a few weeks with my rooted nook touch, I have come to realize how annoying the DRAG TO UNLOCK screen is. Is there any way to skip this and go straight from screensaver to homescreen/book/whatever-you-were-doing? Already scoured the google and this forum and can't find anything.
Thanks in advanced!
yeah, that would be nice if the lockscreen/screensaver could be completely disabled!
I use No Lock by BoD http://www.appbrain.com/app/org.jraf.android.nolock It has a widget for toggling the lockscreen too. I use it on all my android devices that don't have a rom with it built in. I wasn't sure if it would work with the nook touch but it works like a charm. I'd be nice to have a custom rom for the touch that has it built in. Maybe if cm7 gets running on it.

Thank you!
The problem of this utility is that it's always running as service and take some resources.
If I kill it from services keylock starting to work.
Think must be another ways - smth like disable lock in sys settings via adb.
If you're rooted with nook manager just use the nook touch mod manager and under the configure mod option you can disable the drag to unlock and also have a customized banner with your name and number below.

I know this is an old thread, and the Nook Touch Mod Manager fix DOES work if you have it installed, but as someone who just recently re-enabled the two part unlock, let me just mention that it is actually a useful feature. I don't know how many times I have pulled my Nook out to a random page, or random menu selection because the button got bumped whole it was in my pocket. Luckily, no random changes happened that were irreversible. It would really have sucked if I had managed to out it in black text on a black background, for example, and knowing my luck, it's amazing that I didn't.
So that's my two cents' worth. You can disable it, but it is actually quite useful, and speaking from experience, I recommend against doing it.
