Ok this is a major annoyance for me. I keep triggerring links when trying to scroll up or down. Its way too sensitive. Any way to get the links trigger to be less sensitive?
Ie – when using taptalkpro reddit or the browser, i keep entering articles instead of scrolling. My EVO isn't nearly as sensitive...
This is in on a rooted 1.01 NC

Ditto, its very annoying while shopping for books. Also while reading, i flip pages randomly sometimes and have also skipped whole chapters.

Bumpaty bump. Definately my number or annoyance on this device...
Have you tried recalibrating the screen?

Me too: I was accidentally invoking apps, choosing items in lists, etc when trying to scroll.
I found that using a broader finger area for swiping helps, as does having the swipe motion already in progress when touching down. At least, when I consciously do that, it seems to trigger fewer accidents.
This happens to me when I scroll too lightly, but when I add a little pressure it doesn't happen. It might be because I use more of my finger then.

This was happening to me all the time until I saw IPAD commercial on TV. I realized that I was doing a wrong finger motion for scrolling. The correct one - tap, move the finger down, let go.

Just got my Nexus One and I'm very impressed. Just two things that I wish to clear up:
1. Fingerprint impressions are much too easily left on the screen. Will a screen protector help? I suppose nothing else can really be done about that?
2. More importantly, why is copying text so hard on the default browser? I've played with the HTC Desire and the way it's done on that phone is beautiful i.e. dragging two endpoints and then having an option to refer the selected text to Wikipedia or a dictionary etc. Is that an HTC-only thing or is it something can be imported to the Nexus One?
3. The default Gmail application still doesn't allow copying/selection of text, does it?
Cheers.
1. Yes
2. Try flashing desire rom maybe?
3. You can't
Can't comment on 2, but...
1. This is a problem with all touchscreen phones. Some screen protectors are good and some are terrible. Regardless, you will have to wipe down the screen from time to time. The frequency depends on how clean your fingers are.
3. Froyo just introduced copy and paste in the gmail app. Just press menu button > more > select text. It will copy what you selected into the clipboard. After that, paste wherever you please.
Thanks guys.
Pretty surprised with point (2) actually. HTC seems to have gotten their browser UI spot on. Is the default browser on the Nexus One the best?

Good news. Hopefully the Wikipedia/Dictionary lookups are also included with Froyo. And better selection of text.

check out dolphin browser. the default browser is very good, and if you use the TRACKBALL to select text in default, it works very nicely. i agree the touchscreen method is poorly done on the default browser.
screen protector = no finger prints.

Also, I'm banking on gingerbread fixing the copy paste issue, Android introduced it so long ago its really pathetic it hasn't been improved. I can't even use it how it is. But I have a feeling a it is part of the UI that will be modified for 3. 0

Lets hope so. I find HTC's implementation to be perfect! I tried the Dolphin browser, it's good but it doesn't make the selection of text any easier. I suppose that's a ROM issue.
Another tiny detail, the reply button in the Gmail app being right at the end of message - they should fix that too - show it at both ends of the message.

Touchscreens are always painful here. The N1 is no worse than an iPhone / iPod Touch or anything else out there.

The Trackball is your friend - once you get used to using it to move the cursor and select text, you will laugh at how slow and difficult the "drag a knob" method is.

Yes it does - Froyo (finally) added this feature. In any Gmail, just hit the menu button, then select "More", and you will see "Select Text".
Good lesson for you if you are new to "vanilla" Android: ALWAYS try the menu button or long-presses if you are searching for a way to do something.

Actually I really notice them only when the screen is dark. Once I start working on it, it's not noticeable. Still, I'll be a getting a screen protector.
How difficult is to get the Desire ROM on the Nexus One? And is it advisable/inadvisable?
Anyone come across any fixes for the fact that (a) there is no LED indicator telling you that you have a message; and (b) there is no pointer/curser/trackball?
I tried NOLED app from the market, but thought it was useless.
NOLED is probably the only "fix" you are going to find for notifications. Android is a touch screen OS, why on earth would you need a pointer?
The trackball on the N1, for instance, is super helpful when typing.

ON topic, mate a lot of keyboard apps for android include a d-pad option which will let you accurately simulate a cursor/trackball.
No LED notifications is a bummer. Strange how people with iphones are not annoyed by that! Something like sms popup can be set to periodically vibrate to remind you etc. No real solution there Im afraid!
There was some dev work on getting the backlight touch buttons to blink but work seems to have hit a dead end.

Heh, its the ideal solution, except theres not really a solution at the moment. Drivers have now been made public (or so Im led to believe). so Im hoping to see it come along side Cyanogen Mod.
Theres an online petiotion that can be signed regarding some dev work for this. At the moment, theres like 350+ signatories....now if everyone chipped in $5 ......
for the D-pad just slide from the "S" sybmbol in the lowwer left of the keyboard to the "sym" key directly next to it (using swype, not the samsung keyboard). a directional pad pops up and it has backspace, backspace by full word, delete, cut, copy, paste, select all, page up, page down, home and end, and a "tab" key, though i don't know if it works like tab of if it is just a large space for starting paragraphs.
samsungs keyboard also has something similar if you hold the key to the numbers/symbols for three seconds.

Wow. Thanks! Dolphin HD, LiveJournal, and text entry don't get along so well for some reason; it never puts the cursor where I tap when I want to go back and edit text. So I'm extremely happy to hear there are arrows on the Swype keyboard! The trackpad and GPS were the only two things I was still missing from my Aria, and you just remedied the former.
Though now I feel silly for not figuring it out myself!
Too be honest I only knew about it from a review I read but they didn't explain how to do it, after a few days of messing with it I found it in the swype tutorials

I may be the only one, but i actually use my nook as an shook reader quite a bit. The issue i have is the buttn that returns you to the reader app only works sporadically. If anyone has made any observations into the underlying workings of this and can answer how to make it more reliable,or any insight on the matter, I would like to start an investigative sojourn on it. I will be able to do a bit of work starting tonight after work.
PS. We may want to figure out how to get the nc to show up as so to siftware, so my signature will be accurate

Are your files on the internal memory or on an SD card?
For me, items that reside on the SD card disappear from the "shelves" that I add them to after reboot and don't return to the last place I was reading when I use the book button or the recent items in the upper right-hand corner. If I reopen them by navigating to them using the library, they do reopen to the last place I was reading from.
Is this what you are talking about/experiencing?

This is actually the sole reason why I installed Home Switcher. If I reboot my Nook, the book button works reliably *if* I first switch back to the native NC homescreen, open my book, and then go back to my launcher of choice (Zeam). Then, as long as I don't power down/restart my NC, the book button always takes me back to the last page I was reading.

I've noticed this too. I was hoping that someone with a bit more of a brain than I could find the hook that the button uses, and possibly make a small little app that replicates functionality.

If you're using SoftKeys, one of the recent tasks is "Reader" with a book icon. That takes you back to what you were reading. If you use this method you don't have to return to the homescreen to get the stock continue reading icon to work.
Lately I have noticed that buttons on my phone stick. It first started happening when i would text, it was annoying because when i would type any word with an 'A' in it it would select the text than overwrite it. It took me a while to figure out the shortcut for select all with the menu button and, in these cases, i could tap the menu button to resume typing as normal. I couldn't believe a capacitive button could stick like that, but it wasn't too often.
Then last night as I was typing a whole bunch of apps started launching. Again I had to look up the shortcuts for apps to find that my search button that was stuck.
So I have experienced this on several ROMs and I'm thinking it's a hardware issue, but I'm one of those stubborn folks that would rather try to live with things instead of getting a new phone. I already have my invisible shield installed, my ROM set up how I like, etc...just rather not go through the hassle. Has anyone experienced this before? Is this a sign my capacitive buttons are going to fail or something?

Dunno about about the folders but you can hide (but maybe not disable) the Flipboard screen by unchecking its box in the "rearrange home screens" mode.

While the wrap around effect is long gone in TouchWiz, it is still implemented on most third party launchers. And call me crazy, but someone with so much experience should know how to simply add new pages and reassign the home page.

I wasn't asking how to rearrange home screens. The feature is alive and well in the 4. Don't see any benefit to removing it, but you're not really here for help or a discussion. Just to be argumentative and condescending.
Just pointing out something...the iPhone home screen doesn't wrap either, so it would do no good for them to get one for that feature. ...
