Hi:
I bought my Milestone in India around August 2010.
I wanted to know when the 2.2 update will roll out for my device - I checked the Motorola Android Software Upgrade News page but couldn't find a Milestone for India in the list (guessing it's APAC then.. is it?).
Here are my device's details:
Firmware version: 2.1 update1
Firmware configuration version: GAS_EMEA_USASHLS00RTINT_P016
Baseband version: 3GSMEPU91A_U_91.07.56I
Kernel version: 2.6.29-omap1
Build number: SHOLS_U2_02.36.0
How can I find out which region my device belongs to, and how these details decide when the 2.2 build will roll out?
I would also appreciate it if someone could tell me how to find this out from the above details.
Thanks & regards!
Rampee
Check the following link. Will provide you with details.

Regarding OTA upgrade to 2.2, it will release in EU first. You can always update it manually.

you should post it in right place (Motorola Droid and Milestone General)
Thanks Silesh!
Do you suggest waiting for the OTA? What is your opinion on rooting & flashing custom ROMs to bring it to 2.2?
@sharljimhtsin Sorry, my bad

You can safely root and upgrade to a variety of custom 2.2 ROMS available. There are a few of them available like CM6, Cronos, Miui etc. I am running cronos ATM. You can get your stone back to stock anytime. Its very easy.
Though you will not get battery life as in 2.1, you will get a lot of other cool features with 2.2.
Knowing Motorola, we would be lucky if we get the froyo update in during this qtr.

Middle East & Europe supose to get thier updates by Q4 2010>
on Xmas, I read on GSMArena, that Motorola made another delay to Q1 2011.
Meaning by the end of Q4, mostly we'll have Gingerbread with the efforts of xds, GOT, Doshaka & CM.
Do not wait for it my friend, get it from here its save & awsome.

There is no update for 1.14 released till date, no one knows why. If you want, you can get 2.25 official from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887161
But you will still have to root your current firmware and then install that. That guide is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824396
If you do not wish to do these, theres no way. Contact HTC, and, Wait till they release.
Thanks very much. i wil go ahead install custom rom now . Time to explore

Good Luck
I am new to Motorola Milestone and need some info and hope this forum can provide some answers.
The latest X10 minipro update update from SonyEricsson lock up the system and made it unrootable, you have to downgrade and then upgrade again using a rootable version.
My question is, will this be happening for Milestone if i upgrade or update from Motorola website ?
Thanks for the help.
Yup! Actually, I think you will lose root in any android phone that you will update.

Thank you geevee11 for the quick reply.
my next question is, is there a generic rootable version of the latest update available so that i can update to the generic version instead of from Motorola site ?
once again, thanks for your help.

It depends what you mean by latest update?
Motorola has not updated its Eclair (2.1) ROMs in a while.
We are about to get official Froyo (2.2) updates from Motorola (Q1-2011, so the next 2.5 months).
Most people install whatever ROM they want, downgrade the recovery (by flashing the vulnerable recovery only SBF) and then Root from inside their OpenRecovery variant (GOT, Androidiani).
The GOT Froyo leak SBF already includes a vulnerable recovery.
Many ROMS based on Kabaldan's CM6 port (based iteself on the AOSP) already have root.
Did this answer your questions or confuse you?
So I buy and sell phones, unlock them first etc then resell. I got one today from an AT&T rep, which he didn't tell me, I found out by other means. I am just curious if maybe ATT exmployees could have access to an official FroYo 2.2 update that we consumers don't, so I figured I'd post the info form about phone here. Also, if he knew how to flash romsm why the glitchy horrid unofficial version and not some cool amazing rom based on froyo from XDA ? It may be nothing but the un official update. Anyone who might know how to verify more or whatever, let me know. I want to know before I sell it up the river

Firmware: 2.2

JI6 was the Leaked froyo build. It's pretty old.
Excellent thanks, solved!
Moved to Q&A as not android development
I wanted to check if Android 2.3.* (Gingerbread) was available yet on KIES 2.0.0.11014_49.
However, KIES gives me a message that my phone can't be updated.
Yes, I rooted, hacked and cracked my phone just to get the Android 2.2 (Froyo) on it. (December 2010...)
So my phone is now labeled as having Baseband version: I9000XXJPP
Is Samsung punishing people for not waiting 9 months for an update?
Anyway, not important, how do I make sure that I can receive updates again?
Or should I not wait again.....and just follow one of the tutorials for a 2.3 update?
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to answer!
Cheers'
Read it slowly .
GINGERBREAD Android 2.3 HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED by Samsung .
Beta version is in the wild that's all for now .
jje
I didn't take your advice, so I read it real quick.
Anyway, thank you for replying!
2.2???? Man that's ancient!
They may look the same but 2.2.1 is miles ahead in terms of performance. Lagfix is a must on 2.2 but optional on .1.
So yep, don't wait again - take the 'Odin/samfirmware' path if you want official 2.3 asap when it comes out. CWM is also handy to have for custom roms (optional).
You will never want to use kies again.
Kies Registry patcher can help fake region, but odin/samfirware for ease of use, access to ALL firwares including betas and simpler to save firmwares if you ever need to reflash again quickly.
BTW: you don't need to be rooted to upgrade to stock firmware from another region, just the correct registry.

Thanks for explaining in such detail!
This greatly helps me =)
Hi guys,
After messing around with kernels and getting a non responding P1000, I managed to install from Samfirmware, what i believe is stock Gingerbread (Europe).
Everything looks and works fine, but I just want some reassurance that I've downloaded/installed it correctly.
My system details are:
PDA: P1000XXJQ1
PHONE: P1000XXJPZ
CSC: P1000OXAJQ1
Firmware version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: P1000XXJPZ
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XXJQ1
The only reason I want reassurance is when I connect the tab to Kies, the message "this version cannot be updated" displays.
Is it the fact that this is the latest firmware, and therefore no more updates is available?
Thank you in advance and would be much appreciated and reassuring to get an answer for all you kind people.
If you have a tab that was bought throughg a specific carrier then Kies might not be able to update the firmware.
I have a GTab from Telstra in Australia and using the stock firmware I also get this message. All flashing must be done by either ODIN or HEIMDALL. CWM works so long as I don't need to restock anything....
If you do decide to change roms, make sure you check to see if the bootloaders aren't locked as some of the firmware from samfirmware were found to be resulting in problems...
Cheers...
I had exactly the same message from Kies when I tried to revert back to a stock Gingerbread rom. It seems that there isn't an official Samsung release of GB for Tab P1000 in the UK (if that's where you are) so it doesn't recognise it.
Only way I could get it to detect an official release was with a Froyo ROM.
The JQ1 was released not to Europe, but to Italy.

Yes that's right. Im in the UK. So from what i understand, only way to fully revert back and install Official gingerbread is by reverting than earlier froyo firmware and then connecting Kies thks way, then have it detect and install the newly released gingerbread?

Hi there, yeah i kinda thought the firmware i installed was the Italian release, as the date in Firmware was May, not July when the.official gingerbread was released.
Yep, that's how I understand it. However I probably will not even bother with Samsungs UK GB release as there are much better 3rd party GB options out there already. I'm running BOCA 1.5 and it is so fast - it dosn't have any Samsung apps or TouchWiz, but I haven't missed them.

Ha! Just found the XDA app, makes posting and browsing on here so much easier.
Yeah i would have thought 3rd party options would be better running as they'll omit all the bloatware that comes with the official release. I was just thinking more about the option for the future should i have any reason at all to revert back to legit stock.
There's so many recommendation on which custom Rom to install, i think I'll have to spend some time going through the forums to understand which one will be best for me.
For now, Im gonna stick with this working GB (albeit Italy release) as for now it works and I've not had any problems with doing what i want out of it.

The lastest gb released isn't UK, its for Orange Spain.
