I have a bell Vibrant. I was running on Darky's FW. But this happens on any firmware and even on recovery menu. As the phone is booting the touch buttons are illuminated, if I press one (menu or back) that light goes out and stays out and I can't press it anymore. (This also happens in CWM) When phone boots up both back lights are on and go off with the screen as they should. When I unlock to phone both lights come on and go out as they should. But if I press the menu button on the home screen, it opens the menu section and the light goes out upon button press but it sticks or something and keeps pressing the menu button on its own. I can leave my phone sitting on the home screen and the menu comes up and goes away in a continuous loop until I lock the phone. The same thing happens if I unlock the phone but press the back button. the light goes out after I press it and it stays out until I lock the phone again. So my phone can sit at the home screen but only one touch button is lit up? I'm sorry for the book I just wrote but I'm frustrated and can't figure out what to do. If someone has any ideas apart from sending it to Bell for repairs please help.
Thanks
Did you try flashing it back to stock JH2 or JL2 ?
does it work on stock ROMS ?
Yes I was on Darky's ROM, and when I got home I flashed back to JH2 like I have done in the past and it didn't fix anything. But I think the problem goes deeper than the ROM because even in Clockwork mod or during boot if I press one of the buttons the light goes out and stays out. I tried flashing back to JH2 and JK3 with odin. And Kies tells me I can upgrade current version even tho I flashed JH2 & JK3 from samsung-firmwares.
my suggetion, send the phone back for repair/exchange
and flash it back to stock ROM before you do
sounds like a HARDWARE defect
Weirdest thing. I left the phone off in my car when I went to work today and when I turned it back on it didn't do it anymore. But a couple of days ago this happened and fixed itself too and then happened again the next day.
Mine has done this intermittently since I upgraded to JL2 at the beginning of December. Doesn't matter what rom is running, it's still the same, even sometimes does it at the cwm recovery screen. It's annoying. :\
Mine does it too

there is a fix for this. I have the same problem, but I am running a custom rom and not sure if it can be flashed without going back to stock. Try this...
http://androidforums.com/samsung-gal...on-glitch.html
My I9000m stock with JL2 used to do that too. I installed speedmod k13c kernel and then darkys 9.3. That problem totally never appeared again.

Hi
I have just tried to update to 2.2, i updated Kies first, connected my phone, it came back saying update available, fully charged battery, all seemed to go ok, phone rebooted, but when coming back up I get the logo, and the start up music, then it vibrates a bit the keys on bottom left and right are lit up, screen black and doesn't seem to do anything.
I have removed battery, have tried 3 button restore (no effect) it just keeps vibrating every min or so.
holding the power button restarts it, thats about all i can get it to do.
Have I ruined the phone?? please help.

First question... Did you have a lagfix on the phone before you tried to update it?
Second question... If you answered yes to question one... Did you remove / disable the lagfix before you flashed through Kies?
i had lag fix and was rooted, i plugged it in to laptop and it was recognised and said update 2.2 available, so i thought that was ok.
Now it is as i describe as above, i get battery logo if i plug into laptop, bottom left and right keys are lit but don't do anything, screen is black and vibrates every couple of minutes, if i hold power button get the GT galaxy s screen then the music, then the S galaxys screen which goes black with the two keys lit, if i press power button again it goes off and to the battery logo again.
Cannot get odin or kies to recognise phone plugged in, or get it into recovery or download mode

you didn't answer the question but I will assume that you were using a lagfix but did not disable it before you tried to update you phone.
try removing the battery for a few minutes and try going to download mode (hold vol down + home + power)
Go into recovery mode (vol up + home + power 'till screen switches on) and select the delete data/cache (?) option with the volume keys, using the middle button to confirm. Your phone will work, but unfortunately, you'll loose all your app/settings =/
Should have un-lagfixed before updating :-s
let us know if Rawat's way worked for you.
I had disabled my lagfix too when updating to doc jk3 using cwm and same thing happened to me.
Only way i fixed it was to flash my phone's stock rom, jh2 2.1 using odin3 v1.3 and the firmware from samfirmware. (pda only, no pit, no repartition)
then i upgraded to froyo again and it worked.
galaxy i9000 on froyo, rooted, one click lag fix.
out of the blue, whilst playing my gameboid emulator, phone started vibrating and rebooted. now i can not get into any of my phones data or files, all i get is a black screen, quick glimpse of my homescreen (correct times and up to date messages being received) more vibrating, then another black screen with more vibrating and a quick glimpse of my homescreen. this process continues in a loop for as long as it wants, or until i take my battery out.
my phone was one of the unfortunate bunch that got dispatched from orange that can't access recovery mode.
don't really want to send it back to orange because its rooted, so just wondering if there is any way of doing a factory reset, or any other solution to the problem would be highly appreciated.
thanks, tom.
please help i really dont want to send it back to orange
I would reinstall the stock firmware. I mean do you have a custom rom in your phone as this is all happening? If so, reinstall that rom. But which ever you have, get into download mode by one of these two methods:
Turn off your phone, hold volume down, home button, and vomlume button all at once and at the same time.
Or
Take your battery out, hold volume down, home button, and power then reinsert the battery.
What you are trying to get is a yellow android that's digging. Once/if you get into download mode, use Odin to flash the stock firmware or any custom rom that is Odin compatiable.

but he doesnt have the 3 button combo.........
anyway there is a way to fix the 3 button combo, put it in the search bar.
if you wanna do a hard reset and see if that clears the problem type into the dialler *2767*3855#
ah i see. still worth a shot though. my other SGS phone (vibrant) had recovery disabled, but i could get into download mode by taking the battery out and reinserting it while holding volume down, home button, and power button.
PROBLEM
JUST FLASH NEW ROM VIA ODIN YOUR PROBLEM WILL BE short out..........................if I really help u plz click on thanks meter
Hello all,
For some reason, my Galaxy s with froyo does not start anymore since this morning. It stays on the start up window, "GALAXY S, GT-9000 SAMSUNG" all the time. Perhaps it is installing an update. i do not know as i have not downloaded anything.
What are the steps for fixing this if it stays all the time.
Should i do a manufactyre reboot? if so, how to do this?
Thanks for your help
F
i take it you are on a stock samsung rom ??
if so boot into recovery menu, Holding volume up button + home button + power button all at the same time
this should bring up a menu with the option to do a factory reset. navigate it using volume up and down. and home button to select
you will lose all your data !! but this might fix the problem.
if not report back and we will consider some other options
this is strange.. 2 days ago my phone started experiencing similar things. I have stock UK rom, unlocked, no rooting, everything official, no damage..
I pulled the battery out, and it did it again. What i did in the end is just leave it there, and it eventually switched on. What could be causing the slowdown?
Still blocked on start up window
i did the rebood
vol up + home + power
wiped the memory and factory reset
and when i restart it still stays on the first window (at least 1 hr now)..
any other suggestions?
thx
Same story here, stock UK rom...no rooting etc. Has happened to me in the past. Luckily the factory reset from recovery mode had worked.
Phone back to normal now, still not very reassuring with others similar stories.
Can anyone shed any light on this issue? I'm no expert myself.

I would flash a new custom rom

No hacks no cracks then its under warranty Samsung Service centre .
If the fault is hardware then custom rom may not help at all .

My phone was working just fine till today morning my phone hung up. As a general response I pressed the power key to lock it. Nothing happened. Nothing. So I waited it out. Soon the phone was back but the power key became totally dead. It wasn't locking the screen. I used the Screen lock app on emanoN rom v4 to lock the phone and it was working. The screen was getting locked. Figuring this must be some freak bug I tool out the battery and restarted the phone. Same problem except now even simply pressing and not long pressing the lock key would prompt the shut down menu. If ignored the phone just casually restarts. This is annoying because if out of reflex i press the power key , my phone will restart. Now, sometimes the power key does do it's job of simply locking and unlocking the phone. But sometimes it just restarts the phone.
I thought this was a problem with the ROM and so i shifted to godell's MORe ROM. Same problem. Now I've shifted to fresh stock 2.3.6 flashed using Odin and I'm still having the same problem. Pressing power does not lock and instead prompts the shut down/restart menu. and Sometimes the phone just restarts at random . Please help me fix this.
I'm going to go for a full downgrade to 2.3.3 [Since my 2.3.6 upgrade just flashed the MODEM*.md5 and CODE*.md5 files]
But before that.. Why is this happening? Is there any fix?
Thanks!
I have completely reflashed to gingerbread 2.3.3 using odin and problem persists.
I do not think this is a hardware issue, because the button's reactivity is just fine. It's just the action that it does after the keyPress.
Your power key problem might be a hardware issue... :| How old is your phone? You might have used it too much. My friends galaxy mini- the volume up button doesnt work because he used it too much.
It's about an year old.. I'd say 10-11 months or so..
my phone stays at Galaxy S screen then goes blank but bottom icons stay on. There was a failed update but it still worked after. It had been fully charged and powered off on its own. tried taking the battery out numerous times, held the volume buttons down and pressed power button. it will go to at&t screen and then act like it's powering up. when it gets to the Galaxy S screen it will stay for about 30 seconds. then the screen goes blank and the bottom icons are still lit up. there is no vibrating. It also won't turn off unless i take the battery out.
Flash a stock rom and start over.
Also make sure you have at least 50 mbs free on your phones internal memory. I have seen two cases where the person didn't have enough memory left and the phone would light the buttons on touch but not light the main screen or respond to any commands.
I have this exact same problem. I am new to this whole world (yes, I am a n00b), which is why I picked up this Captivate in the first place. I can easily get into download and recovery mode. I tried Odin 1 click for gingerbread and then Heimdall for the original 2.1, as outlined in this thread. Both times it ran successfully, and for both it always boots to the S screen. Then the screen will go black, as the original poster said. Only way to fix is pulling the battery.
Re: mikegy2002, How do you clear the memory?
Could I flash the ROM any other way besides one click?
Thanks!
What would you suggest the op flash. I would think a GB stock would be best but which one.
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda premium
I've read it's best to flash the one it came with, which could be 2.1, 2.2, or 2.3, depending. I can't find out how to flash back to stock besides the one clicks, which haven't been working for me.
It seems like this would be a really easy problem to fix, if you can get into download mode. But I guess not.
