Pocketpc Geeks Invites You

Actually no true invitation, but there are several members that are wanting to get up a meet up, and I thought that it would be a good idea to invite people who are on other boards. obviously this would be geared towards americans, but anyone would be eligible to come. i am going to attempt to get some type of sponsorship from large companies to cover meeting area and other things, maybe have speakers from said companies, and showing off new devices. We also would like to have some of the pocketpc power people that are essential to these online communities do some classes or something. It is all really up in the air. Location, time, everything. I guess you could really call this the initial planning but if you are interested please say so in this thread.
this is the ppc geeks thread url http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=21783&page=5.

Web site creators?

Hey-
A friend of mine wants to build a website for his small business. He has a domain name registered and he has a host. He just needs to build the site. He asked me if I could help/knew of any good programs that help make the job easier.
Neither of us have much code writing experience, but we both have a lot of experience using computers at a higher level than the "norm".
He would prefer something he could run on his linux box, but would settle for something on Windows XP.
Any suggestions?
Hi, i would use: Microsoft Expressions 3
another good program is: Serif Webplus X2 / X4
wordpress is also an option it's easy for users to update themselves even if they are not
good at html or j-scripts and php
Thanks for the responses guys! We will take a look at those programs. I have heard good things about wordpress for us html deprived folk that have good overall skills. It looks like a good match to me(free, easy, good support community and powerful enough for what we are doing). Of course, we are going to take a look at the other suggestions, Expressions 3 is something I am familiar with, but we are not looking to spend any money if possible (not pros, just helping a friend). Not real familiar with Serif other than I know the name and I know it is a solid option.
If you go to
Students4Software you can get:
Microsoft Expressions Studio 3 for £20 / 50
all ligit
I'd look at e107.
It's a bit technical to setup, but there's a wiki and a IRC Channel, for help.
Requires, virtually no coding (unless you need to fix bugs), and offers a lot of features.
Dave
Well it all depends on the complexity of the website in question. Is it mostly just content or will you need database interactions involved? Will the site have a member base?
If it's just mostly content, any html editor (Visual Web Developer, Dreamweaver) should work. IF you are needing a more complex solution it's best to get a book and learn ASP.NET or PHP.. Cheaper then paying someone! =)
depends on what you want .. Wordpress is a great choice for blogs .. Drupal / Joomla if you are after a CMS.

not legit if your not a student, luckily im a student so can use that but if your not a student you don't have a right to use that site, and as a matter of fact u can get expressions studio free (if your a student) from the dreamspark project.

Looking for a web developer that is interested in a business idea

Hey everyone,
I figured that if I need a developer that is as passionate about mobile technology as I am, this is the best place to come. I have a business proposition. And if there are multiple people interested I am more than willing to organize a group for this purpose. I have a great idea, and know what I want. However I need a business partner that has the technical skills to setup a website. I will be able to tell more after, if you are interested, have signed a NDA. The idea is first and foremost dealing with Android, but will eventually encompass most major mobile OS.
If you are interested in hearing me out please contact me at [email protected]
I have a dream and a passion and would love to find someone equally excited about the above mentioned topics.
You ask yourself why am I coming here? Because I am asking initially for your most important resource, which is time. But together we can leverage that time into a good capital, which I hope will be able to benefit all developers.
Thanks,
Hans-Erik Stegeby

Betatesting anyone?

Hi guys,
I'm one of the admins of the travel social network tripcolony.com and I would be glad to receive your tips and suggestions regarding the website, along with some volunteers for spare-time and quick betatesting while using the platform. Our priority right now is to improve it (it's still in beta version!) and make it a comfortable and useful service for many travelers and socially open people in general. That's why your feedbacks are important.
A quick explanation about what it really is first, so you get the gist of it.
TripColony aims to be an easy-to-use social network built by travelers for travelers. It wants to offer the chance for those who love to explore the world to get to know more of their future destinations through friendships with people living on the spot. You create your public profile, your private one for your friends, you set your style, you share the knowledge you have of the places and you just help and get helped. And why not, you might grow friends all around the world and meet them eventually.
We look forward to grow a consistent user-base but what matters most is caring about people's needs.
Soon we will start a "bring a friend, get rewarded" campaign (and of course betatesters get rewarded as well).
I'd really appreciate if any of you checked it out and gave their opinions.

Any company's willing to give a review product?

Does any of you guys know any company's willing to give me a review product like Htc or Lg or any phone company? If there's a email you know I can contact let me know!
They don't just give them out to people. You need to be a recognised and known name in some sort of journalist or tech field - something relevant. Unless you've been a tech journalist, or something similar, for years then seriously, start saving up instead. It will be quicker and the time is gonna pass anyway.
HTC Elevate offers the opportunity to get new devices ahead of a public release, but again, they don't just hand those devices out to just anyone. It's mainly to test the device and report issues to HTC so they can square away hardware and software problems prior to releasing the device. You can find out more by going to the link below.

No.
I've been member of Elevate for a couple years now and from what I've gathered they don't do field-testing anymore. Not even with software. They stopped doing it because everything got leaked afaik, basically the only things on there right now are;
1. Early but already public info
2. giveaways by competing surveys (pretty uncommon)
3. giveaways through 'share-this'-activities (basically advertising for HTC on your own social media, a little more common)
4. forums to talk with fellow elevate members
there's also meetups around the world, but I've never participated because even the closest one is too far for me to just hop over. I think what they do at these meet-ups is just talk and have a drink together. Only at launch events (which you can be invited to through Elevate) you get to see new phones
And if you want a 'review unit' of anything, you gotta be a reviewer with a nice number of followers first.
