Leave Nexus for Dell Streak?

Anybody going to trade up to the Dell Streak?
I love everything about it (especially now that it's rooted!).
The only drawbacks are the 1.6 version of the OS and that there may be a certain tool-factor when holding that big thing on your face to take a call.
I'm in the US and waiting for the unlocked version to come to this side of the pond the the next month or so.

If it get's FroYo I would be mighty tempted, and T-Mobile 3G bands is a must which I don't think it supports

Ya it's only going to support AT&T. I have T-Mobile, but still thinking of getting an AT&T sim and throwing it in there. Though their new data plans are kind of weird now.. :/

I thought I read that Dell is releasing one with AWS bands as well for T-mobile. That being said, I don't think it can properly be called a "trade up" vis a vis the Nexus One.

I wont. The streak is to big for me. I like something around 3.5-4.0 for the screen size.

How is going to a big tank with Android 1.5 a trade up? No thanks, it's just too big for me, even if it had 2.2. The N1 may not be the absolute bleeding edge hardware design anymore, but it's more than adequate for my purposes, and it's large enough for my purposes.

also guys lets not forget ATT's recent data pricing fiasco.

I dont plan on letting go of my n1 until either some dual core or 1.5ghz processors come out, and i would probably only do it if they had a HW keyboard, otherwise the n1 can/will keep up with all the new phones coming out.

I'll stay with my N1 as a phone , but would like to have the Streak as a multimedia toy !

N1 does it for me for atlest another year. I don't need anything else... better battery is all I need now..

I'd thought about it, but would much prefer a larger tablet device. I'm still waiting for a Snapdragon or Tegra2 powered tablet with a 9-11" screen.

I'll be grabbing one, but won't be leaving my N1 very far away. I suspect I will switch between the two depending on the day. Want something that replaces my smartphone but still pocket portable, and not an addon like a large tablet/iPad, that is very data centric and the Streak seems to fit that perfectly with a 5inch screen. Apparently according to the latest engadget review the Streak gets better battery life than the N1, kind of amazing with the screen difference, maybe cause its 1.6 right now, who knows.
They already have root from Paul at modaco so I would expect that 1.6 will be upgraded real soon, think Dell was already making waves about a 2.x from them within the next month or two as well!
Hopefully its not going to be too much trouble to get one shipped to Canada.

Am staying with my N1 for at LEAST a year.
I managed to hang onto the dying G1 for almost 15 months.
Between learning to root, and flashing all those ROMs, it was always "like a new phone" for me.
And now with the N1, being that it is ALSO a Google released phone, it's like falling in love all over again.

No Streak for me & it's to big. My Nexus One rocks and still feels new

Ill wait for something better and faster more likely a Tegra 2 tablet or smartphone

The streak is way to massive for my pocket, as cool and impressive as this phone is, it is way to large

I'd like to say that I'm not going to get rid of my nexus anytime soon. But, being realistic, I know that's probably not the case. I go through phones pretty quickly. Example: I got a iPhone in 02/09, a G1 in 07/09, a CLIQ in 10/09, and a Nexus in 02/10. I won't get the streak at US launch, but I may get it a little later depending on how it develops. What I'd really like to see though is the streak rom ported to the nexus one.

Very true my friend. I had a Magic before i got my Nexus and was always switching between hero roms and CM roms and it always felt new. Same w my Nexus. I'm just looking for the next thing to have and if enough ppl get behind the Streak then I think it'll be a great (not so little toy)

Is Streak 7 recalled from Dell?

I called staples to check the availablity of Dell Streak 7. The representive said there will not have new stock of Streak 7 coming soon. Because Dell actually recalled Streak 7.
Do anyone know more, and does Streak 7 have problem for recall?

I had to go to 4 staples stores before I found one.
1 store said they had 4 in stock, until I got there and they couldnt find them... then the manager had to teach the sales associates how to understand their POS system. Apparently, their system will show the Staples store has them in stock, until Dell actually receives them.
The manager told me that they dont know the details, they were just told to RTV them.
Also, one of those 4 stores I went to actually had one in stock, but for some odd reason, the manager wouldnt sell it to me... His only response was "you dont want this one".... and wouldn't explain any further.
Whatever! I got mine!

When I called Dell for another question today I directly asked if there was any sort of recall and if they still are supporting the device. He assured me of no recall and says full support is still to continue. Of course this is coming from a Dell trained employee so only time will tell...
Seems there may just be some sort of issue between Staples and Dell?

I just purchased mine on thursday at a Staples with the $100 dollar off coupon without any problem. They still had 3 or 4 left in stock (they were selling faster than the other tablets) Nice cheap way to test out if a tablet is right for you imo.

Its no wonder seeing as T-Mobile has discontinued it too.

This is very unfortunate. DELL really dropped the ball on this one, big time. Awesome device; all they needed was some proper software support and a smidgen of advertising. I really don't know why they even made the Streak 7 if they weren't going to support it. Then again, DELL is one of the few tech giants that actually spends less on R&D than Apple.

It's still listed for sale on T-mobile just not with a contract discount.

We got word yesterday that tmo is no longer supporting the streak. We are unable to order any more. Word is once stock is depleted tmo will offically eol the streak. As of right now it is available online and in stores that still have them in stock

I'm happy with my DS7 WiFi and will continue with it until it's no longer supported and/or out of warranty and then I'll release the hacking/programming hounds

thats why i bought insurance on it through tmobile so in about a year when they cant be found anymore they will have to replace with a similar device through asurion its 130 dollars.

I think the so called recall is to slap honeycomb...out of the the box

I doubt it, but nice thought. Of course simply for that reason it probably won't happen. The fact that the unit is being discontinued probably means they're not going to invest more into it. Best bet will be for the dev community to be our only hope.

Honeycomb: Do You Have It?

There's rumblings out there that official HC has dropped for the 4G model. Can anyone confirm this?

Nope, I have a Tmobile 4G and only get the No Updates Available page that's been there since the 2.2.2 upgrade.

I'll bet this forum lights up like a Christmas tree when it does.

Why would China get the 10" Dell Streak before America? Why would Dell put a crummy screen on an all-screen device? Why would Dell gimp the battery?
I don't try to understand Dell, anymore. I loved this tab, but I'm starting to think it was a mistake to purchase one. Too bad I don't have the money for whichever tab Sammy comes out with on T-Mo.

NOt a mistake cos they no honeycomb right now for it, never was when you bought it. There's no 7 inch that got the whole lot good.... screen, battery and OS, never will be. Would never need to buy another one if there was.
Streak 7 does the whole lot tho... can get away with most the gameloft and other latest games on it, got some of the best power behind it. Can probably do pretty much the whole android package...
Saying that though, some of the guys over there on the dell support forums claiming they got the official OTA. Every one should push them for a dump...

If there's any truth in those posts all we need are any details of the update page.
Whatever rom they were on, and possibly their service tag if dell's being fickle and handing it out in phases.
OR just the update page/update.pkg url.
Of course you'll need to reflash back to 2.2.x to install it as all the custom HC roms repartition the device

Their build.prop would pretty much do most of it. Very much doubt they have it though, just news just after news about an expected OTA date. Push amigo, push...

[Q] Dell Streak 7 Delivery Date

Ordered a DS7 on 11/17 and was given an EDD for 12/27, I've been on the Dell Forums and a few people have claimed the same as well (Give or take a few days). Some have called Customer Service (My boyfriend has as well and hasn't gotten anywhere with them!), some have Emailed. Does anyone know what is going on? Any help would be appreciated.

If you've been on the Dell forums, then did you order it from Dell? If so, the 12/27 is probably because they are waiting on returns from stores since they announced the Streak 7 was discontinued.

Yeah I ordered it from their website on 11/17. They gave the EDD for 12/27 before they were discontinued. But them waiting for returns makes sense. I've also heard QVC sold 30,000 of them and that Best Buy sold a lot on Black Friday. The there's also a rumor in the boards that the the screen and battery life are vein worked on but I'm not holding my breath for that haha

Weirdest thing, went on their site today and my order was canceled then a new order was set up (still the tablet that I wanted) and now it's being shipped and should be here by Monday! I'm excited but at the same time this has been the weirdest online ordering experience I have ever had!

When your new s7 arrives, you should check what rom is preinstalled and report back

I bought my Dell Streak 7 on 11/25 and the estimated delivery was 12/26. Was not happy.
Then a week ago I got a email saying my order was changed. Called Dell, they canceled and re-submitted the order he said and the new delivery date was 1/15.
Was REALLY HOT after that. Went to 5 different people letting them know they ruined my kids Christmas (ok not my kid, but mine!)
I got tired of waiting on the last guy when I called on Thursday and was too busy at work to deal with them and figured the weekend is probably not the best time to rip a new one on someone, so was going to call today. Either I made a impression on someone or they just hurried things up but Fedex dropped off a dell streak at my house this morning. running 3.2.
Thought I'd let you guys know.

Mine is a Wifi only version.
Now to get this stock Dell crap off. Looks like garbage compared to my samsung epic 4g. Hate how things are reversed. Status bar on bottom, delete when holding a widget is on top. and Man,, adding a widget.. Thats the worst.

Well you have a rom that noone else does, would you be willing to make a nandroid or nvflash copy before modifying it?
Just as much if you dont and you break something, you'd be stuck downgrading to an older version.
The easy way is to use clockwork mod and make a nandroid, but that would mean losing the stock recovery.
If you are comfortable with using nvflash that can dump everything safely.
If you can meet on #dellstreak7 on freenode I can walk you though either process
Edit: it's also more or less completely 3.2 stock, there's absolutely nothing noticable changed, if it wasnt for the preinstalled stage widgets it might as well be a stock experience minus the quick updates (3.2.2 has been out for a while and 3.2.4 just released recently)

Hey guys, tried searching but could not find an answer. Wanted to know if the phone feature worked on the original dell streak 7 froyo operating system? A friend of mine stated that it did and they made calls when they first bought the dell streak 7, im not sure if their confused, but is this possible? If so, where can I find the package to install. I am currently on Honeycomb 3.2. Please help, thanks!

Not over cellular, the modem itself does not support cell calls without hax.
He likely used some sort of voip service
