Go flash hardcore's latest speedmod kernel and you should have cwm. The instructions are in his thread.

I am new to all of this and have the same problem as above.
I now have several other problems
Who is flash hardcore?
Where do I find the info on his latest speedmod kernel?
What is cwm?
Please be kind to me!!!

Dear oldun, come and take a hog... then, when you will be in good mood, maybe you will find some energy, to assimilate some knowledge, e.g.: try from opening uncle Google and type: Where do I find the info on his latest speedmod kernel?, sgs, xda
Then, you can look more, by typing: What is cwm?, sgs, xda
I'm sure that you will be happy like never before

Better safe than sorry, I just started contributing after quite some time now so I do not blame you one bit.
However...
That link is the CWM recovery for 2e bootloaders.
What ROM are you using?
You can always get ODIN 1.82 and flash an optimized kernel like hardcore's speedmod K9A which already has CWM.
EDIT: haha or you could just ODIN one-click to stock, root, and go CW Rom manager and from there flash recovery. I know that will work 100%, but that link is just a shortcut through all that nonsense.
Just flash clockworkmod recovery.
I had this problem the other day when I was trying to flash a new rom. I tried flashing CWM many times to no avail.
Like one of the previous repliers said, I flashed the speedmod kernel which had CWM already. The kernel can be found here.
Use Odin to flash it. After that, i could boot manually to CWM, but when i tried to boot to it through rom manager i was pushed to the stock recovery. In that case, I simply flashed my rom manually with CWM.
Theres also a good video on this for the i9000 which worked for me:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7xV0yE9ZcA
Hope this helps.

[Q] help with flashing cm7 phone just goes back to factory standard

Hi
I'm having problems flashing to cyanogen mod on my galaxy s. I've rooted it, installed clockword mod recovery, after having to change the kernel to get back to 2e recovery. I have the mod file on my sd card, not my external sd, and have renamed it to update. I have tried a number of times to flash the rom, through rom manager and going directly into cwm. I wipe the data and the cache before.
Yet each time it just reboots into the factory standard, like when I bought my phone. Sorry if i've missed something obvious, but i'm at a loss. Please help
You need to flash a gingerbread rom which has a cwm kernel. Ramad has done his stuff on a jvt rom I believe.
Check the cm7 thread for further flashing instructions - the steps are quite clear.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
You can also try to use the CM7 install guide linked in my signature, however it sounds like your problem is not flashing CM7, but flashing CWM3. Plenty of good guides for that on XDA...find one.
The trickiest part of installing CM7 now is just getting CWM set up properly. Once you do that, it is all cake.
Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I thought that a froyo 2.2 rom was needed for cm7, although I was taking my information from the cyanogen wiki. I will seek out the gingerbread rom then. I am on cwm 2.5 currently so this may well be the problem.
rschenk: I did read through your guide and notice that I was unable to select samsung galaxy s mtd in rom manager, only galaxy i1900, and also was unable to select cwm 3 so thought this may be something to do with it. Also I couldn't see cm7 in the rom manager downloads and had to dowload it from cm7 site. After reviewing the guide again I am now a little confused whether I need gingerbread rom with cwm kernel, or whether I could flash speedmod kernel and put cwm 3 on after that.

CM7 can be flashed over either froyo or gingerbread as long as the kernel installed allows you to flash from cwm recovery.
Did you get the option when flashing Rom manager recovery to use galaxy s mtd? When you choose it it will say it is not supported, but it is lying.

No I didn't get that option, I got Vibrant (mtd) captivate (mtd) but not galaxy s mtd, only galaxy I9000.
Still not exactly sure how to proceed, I've just flashed speedmod kernel for froyo, but its put me back on recovery mode 3e again, no cwm at all. Think I need to find the gingerbread rom with cmw kernel, struggling to find it on search at the moment.
But you will get better battery life if you have gingerbread bootloaders no?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Ok, after going recovery second time, this time manually as opposed to through rom manager, speedmod cwm appeared. Successfully flashed to cyanogen from here no probs. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
As for battery life on gingerbread bootloaders, no idea, too noob to know.
Glad it's sorted. You do get better battery life from gingerbread bootloaders.

ROM Manager / Clockwork Mod question

I'm trying to install clockwork mod on the wifes captivate. Unlike mine, she doesn't want a custom rom, actually she doesn't want me messing with it at all lol! Anyway it's rooted and I ran the 3e recovery fix script for Froyo as her's is 2.2.
So I install ROM Manager to install cwm, select Captivate and it says not supported on your device, manually install a recovery first and run again. Ok so where does one get a cwm file to manually install? I looked on the clockwork site and it has rom & recovery files listed but unknown if that's it and if it's even compatible with 2.2? Anyone have a clue on this? I've search multiple threads and haven't found one with this particular issue.
Search for "update.zip"
You need a clockwork enabled kernel. Then RomManager will be able to install CW.

This is wrong.
To OP don't waste your time with Rom Manager. Flash a kernel with cwm baked in it (any i897 2.2 kernel should work) or as mrhaley30705 said update.zip.

what he said. flash any custom kernel, it has cwm built in. or do the update.zip method and make sure NEVER delete the file!!!!!!
but go with a custom kernel the have TONES of other cool options added. find one that is odin flashable and odin flash it...
here...
Odin3v1.85.zip
Onix kernel v2.0.5 made for android 2.2 search the forum for its thread to find all its options
boot phone into download mode (search)
plug in to computer
open odin
load the kernel into the PDA box.
press start

Curious how my statement is wrong? He asked why rom manager would not install clockwork and I told him. I said he needed a cwm compatible kernel, and you just repeated what I said except not to use rom manager?

there is no CWM compatible kernel. all custom kernels have CWM baked in. ROM manager is useless

Why Clockworkmod?

Hi All,

Clockwork mod recovery is a special android recovery that is made esp. for cyanogenmod and rom manager app. This recovery is able to handle flashing of roms, create backup and restore and do many other advance things, which are not possible to do via stock recovery.
If you don't have problem falshing cm7 then, why are thinking too much about installing CWM recovery? I suggest you give it a try and I guarantee that you'll love both clockwork mod recovery and cm7 custom rom. Good Luck! with the flashing.
P.S. DOn't use ROM MAnager with Galaxy Mini.
Thanx guys for the stupid newb questions!!
I successfully rooted my phone no problem at all, while I was on a role I decided to have a go at installing ClockworkMod, following These instructions I downloaded all files ran odin and booted my phone to download mode I connected it, and odin found the phone, so I pressed start and it didnt appear to do anything. The phone didnt reboot and I got no status messages. I followed them exactly.
I might try again tommorow on another PC.
anyone else experienced this?

Maybe the title was misleading as Why Clockworkmod?
Maybe that's why he replied about stock and custom recovery.
But the content in the post was clear, as the OP said about why the CWM app needed for installing ROMs, but the Thread title should be clear enough though, as it should be more like Why Clockworkmod app?
yes thats exactly what I meant coolsandie, and noted I could have worded the thread better. its been a while since iv done the whole forum thing. but, thanx for the tips guys

[Q] What`s the correct kernel to my device??

Hi guys. I have a I9000 and i want to install the CyanogenMod 9 on it. I`ve Already rooted my phone using the Unlock Root. However, I can`t go to the Clockworkmod recovery to install customs rooms. I tried to flash the CWM recovery using the Rom Manager app, but when i was installing, an error happened. I figured out that the problem is my kernel that is not compatible with the CWM. I know that i have to flash a compatible kernel using Odin, but which kernel should i flash??? My device is a Galaxy S I9000, 2.3.5 android, and 2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVT-CL617736 kernel. Already rooted. Please someone could help me??
Thank you so much
Don't use rom manager, use Odin to flash, CWM is bundled with rooted kernel (CF-root, Semaphore)
Here is a collection of links and tips to tackle different situations when flashing, updating, fixes...

This guide could work for updating to cm9.1

Most important is to start making a backup of files in /efs folder in case of IMEI loss after some flash job.

Hi, I have the same error problem, cf root was not bundled with my own root package. I flashed to gingerbread 2.3.6 xwjw1, I also tried rom manager to flash recovery and it was successful, but when I rebooted to recovery to backup my current rom it bootes to the android (3e) recovery. As I've discovered it seems rom manager is not compatible with the xwjw1 series. How do I get the correct cf root for xwjw1? Believe me I have tried google and am scared of the things I see since "jw1" is not behind any of the cf root packages I see. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

On xwjw1 you can Odin flash as PDA Semaphore 250 tar kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14481782
Untick re-partition before flashing.
After reboot you may need to install Superuser from Play Store.
That will give you root, CWM, gingerbread ready for CM9.1

Use Odin to flash (put .tar in PDA and uncheck repartition). You can flash Semaphore JVT 1.8.0 or CF-Root v4.3

Thanks Sunny men, but OT's advice worked, I can now boot to semaphore recovery and wipe etc.
Question though, if I now flash cm9.1 rom, will I be able to boot to recovery without the holding any button combinations. What I mean is can I boot to recovery from the shutdown menu or do I need an app for it?
Also is cm9.1 the best rom for my phone? any thots guys? Thanks again.

Yes, in CM 9.1 you can boot directly to recovery from the shutdown menu. CM 9.1 is very stable and fast, so try it. And when you flash CM9 for the first time, your galaxy will go into a bootloop. Then remove the battery, put it in, go to recovery with 3-button configuration and flash it again.

Hi guys, thanks for all the help. I have flashed CM 9.1 successfully.
Everything works OK for now.
Also flashed gapps, CM 9.1 seems to be a great ROM.
I have a question though, the gapps I flashed seems to have only a few Google apps, play store and Google talk. The file size was 49mb so is that all that's in gapps or is there a hidden mode or something.
Also, sin007 I can't find any reboot to recovery from the shutdown menu, though I flashed a stable version of CM 9.1 and not a "nighty version". Could that be the reason? But no biggie, CM 9.1 comes with rom manager.
Finally I wouldn't mind any tips you guys have on making the most out of the ROM.
Thanks and all the best.
Shutdown menu - Reboot - Recovery
OK?
There is an APP on google play, sgs kernel flash, it is easier and faster than Odin. And works perfectly. I've flash the speedmod kernel and finally upgrade to cyanogenmod 9.1.
Anyone knows if this APP works on galaxy s2 (i9100)?
Thankss
