Yesterday as I was leaving work I noticed a new icon on my default (home) desktop called Android. I didn't put it there and have no idea how it got there. When you tap it, it opens a window with like 8 android system icons, txt, settings, ect. Its kinda handy I suppose but not really needed, but I'm really curious where the heck it came from. Anyone else see this on their device?
Sounds like a folder rather than a shortcut? Never seen it before and it's not one of the default folders either.
Yeah I think you're correct. All those functions I usually do from the (LP) dock, and its like the phone decided I use those enough that I need a dedicated folder!!?? Nothing else has changed, the first place I looked was "About Phone", everything is as it was before. Weird!
Edit: also I have LP set to not have text labels for any icons, but this one does say "Android", jesus phone indeed, ha!
Edit: Oh, and the graphic is a generic gray cellphone.
Screenshot??
Sure when I get home and have access to my computer/SDK
SDK? Looking at the spec list you don't need it?
You are aware you can use screenshot apps with root, right?

Yeah took a quick look at the Market and nothing really jumped out at me, and didn't have a lot of time to monkey around with my phone.
Anyhow,

Not sure about the Android shortcut/icon, but the second screen looks similar to the popup that shows when you hold the home button. (recent activities list)
Looks like one of the default Folder Organizer items, do you have that installed? If so, you probably added the widget while it was in your pocket or something. I'd be less worried about your phone and start wondering if your leg is becoming self aware!

Bingo!! Its a widget selection for a program I have called App Organizer, having said that, it takes four (specific) keypresses to get it to a place where I never put icons. I always leave my default home screen devoid of any clutter, (except time), for viewing cool wallpapers.
So I guess I'm back to, did this program just decide, without any interaction from me to put an icon on my desktop? Certainly not earth shaking, but a little bit irritating having some guy behind a monitor deciding how I should use my device.
In the scheme of things theres probably a lot more than less of this going on behind the scenes than I can see, lol.
Thanks for the replies/help clearing this up!

Guys I am sure some of you have come up with this program already but I thought posting a link to it since its free and works great with the Kaiser when you want to switch/open/close applications without pulling out the stylus.

I configured it to open with the PTT button and then use the wheel to move/select between the options (Active, close, close all)
Hope you find it usefull.

Thanks - I haven't seen this before.
Your link is dead - looks right but goes to the wrong place. I got it with a copy/paste though.
I installed it and it gave the "this program may not display properly because it was designed for an older version of windows" thing. I downloaded the WM6 version and am running it on WM6.
The program did not appear in my Applications. It was not available to be assigned to a button either.
It was sitting there in the Program Files directory though, and I could run it from there.
Looks pretty good. I like the controls and everything - but its a bit disappointing that it doesn't pull the correct icon for every program and you have to do it manually. I don't see myself doing that - so if I'm going to use it I would use it with the default icons.
I think I like it and would probably use it if I can get it to assign to a button.

To be honest its only when its assigned to a button that you will see the benefits specially if its the PTT which is next to the wheel.
Funny you say that. I tried checking my buttons settings and now it doesnt show up on the list of applications however its still assigned to the PTT button so I dont want to mess with it lol in case I screw it up..
Have you tried re-installing it?
I agree with the Icons being a pain although we tend to use the same applications very often so it might not be too much of a hassle.
UPDATE
Its back on the list of my applications available. I have assigned it to button 6 PTT

Why dont you try the Camera Button?
Wanted to start a thread here about dxTop widgets. I want more of them! Memory Management is awesome, now we just need a few more!
This is basically a plea to the Developers here to make a few.
Weather
Calender
Frequent callers
RSS
Digital Clock
New Analog Clock (If you make themes, maybe just extract your clock, and make them avalible as dxTop Widgets, as dxTop overwrites the clock styles )
There are more, a better starting list is at the dxTop Forums however
Perhaps a XBL Widget showing peoples status. Or maybe even a mini buddy list from some of the IM clients.
I'm thinking about adding a widget view to the open source Wifi Tether app so that you can just click on a button on your screen... If the author doesn't beat me to it.
I would like a RSS feed widget and weather widget. Maybe a system status widget(storage, temp, memory, and cpu speed)
Perhaps the tether widget could show who is also connected.
I am all about the different style clocks. Thats a great idea.

Yeah, but the thing is, I'm probably not going to actually code it because I dont have the time; I'm just going to make a view for it... eventually... =D

Wouldn't that end up being a widget that's about the size of an entire screen?

Or you just touch a widget the same size as the Mem monitor, and it changes between them/expands like a folder opening for more detailed view, or a combo of both, tap to change the quick view, hold for a detailed overview.
Mind you, I am not code savvy, so I have no clue if it'd work...but the widgets in windows can do similar things, so some intelligent Developer might take a swing at it =)
three words... upcoming calendar appointments
I think once there is a more complete "how-to", I think more will become available.
I cant wait though!
i always wanted some widget like this
i thought it would be a great
addition to the home screen

could be a good use for that extra screen , lol
or make it one whole screen or in parts that way you can disperse them among your 4 screens
Have any of you guys used this NetFront Life launcher. I just downloaded it and it is pretty cool. You just have to figure out how to move the apps off the ring and place them. I got it figured out. If you need help.
The exact name from the market is NetFront Life Screen

No launcher shows in the market. Please post a link to see what the launcher is. Or take screen shots.
Sorry I am considered new and i can't post links in the forum. I will get the exact name. I am in the middle of a flash right now.
Ok the OP is edited with the name
NetFront Life Screen.
Google it for pictures.
I actually did see this a while back, but I constantly kept getting "app not found" errors. I even found it on app brain and using the QR code still didn't work. Found other apps by net life and looked at the developer page for more apps, and it didn't show up there either. I just searched again though and indeed, there it is. So if you can't find it, it's likely because of your market fingerprint.
I'm currently running Cognition 3.04 with the Market 2.3.2 (recently updated woo) and I can install it.
I downloaded this launcher and gave it a test run. All I can say is that it is not ready to be used daily as my default launcher. It's a cool concept, but can lag at times, and is a bit annoying when trying to cycle through apps in a hurry.
Its definitely an interesting concept but needs more options to customize it. For example, the space for the widget is a pre-set size....and you can't change the icons. Noticed it used around 45mb too

just grab the top half or so and scroll to the left page and there's a cube for apps. the only time I see this thing really lag is when going from the right page to the left page.
Just now tried. really looks good. But donno how to go to menu
I used to have this launcher, but I got rid of it because it became slow and it forced closed all the time.
Def a cool launcher, but I can't see myself using this as my default launcher. Maybe after some updates this thing will really take off
its a nice concepts but eats a lot of memory...lags a lot....
I like the UI but need more update for lag issue.
So I was playing around with some widgets a couple weeks ago and somehow got this Nova "thing" on the side of my screen and can't figure out how to remove it. Seems it's always right in the way, lol. Screenshot below, but a few points:
a.) It's on every page of launcher home screen
b.) I can drag it and keep it anywhere vertically on the side of screen
c.) I can drag it to the other side of the screen but not drop it anywhere in between.
Hope someone can help me here, I feel pretty stupid on this one, thanks!

Usually you can drag any widget all the way to the top and a "remove" X will appear to drop it on. If long pressing doesn't give a menu option to remove or delete I would look at my backups. Even if your backup is weeks or months old, restoring it will get rid of the widget and you can quickly arrange things the way they were before. If you don't have any backups, make one and uninstall Nova. Then reinstall and restore to see if the widget is gone.

Ah, good point about the backups, I'll check to see if I have any - I may have some on my cloud drive that I backed up after reset as well. I had looked for the droppable to delete it but wasn't there, was kinda hellbent on figuring out what exactly it is or is supposed to do but I'm just happy to get rid of it at this point. Thanks for the help!
Ever solve this? I have same issue
I have no idea why no one has responded to this but it's actually quite simple go into settings then go to accessibility then choose Nova launcher and you'll see the option to turn off Nova launcher shortcut
Anybody knows how to turn on Auto Arrange app icons on the Asus Zenfone 8? ... it's so basic already years and i was looking anywhere and couldn't find how to make it auto arrange the apps icons / shortcuts on home screen and other "pages"... i mean that e.g. if i delete some app or it's shortcut, it's automaticall move all the other apps to take it's place... just keeping it in order... very basic and therefore odd it's no where 2B found easily...
Also for moving the app pages from one place to another, like if you want the apps to be right before or after some widget... it's very frustrating.. in Android 10 i think it was by marking some app (With V) on the edit page mode, so the bottom horizontal ribon of pages shown, then simply long tap and drag and drop the entire page to where you want.. but non of this here... it's very frustrating so any help would be very much appreciated here...
Thatks all ahead and have a nice day..
Unfortunately I don't have an answer for your question. Personally I don't have this problem, since I use just 5 folders to store my most used apps by category.
May it give you some insight in how to rearrange your phone in to a tighty experience.

An folder is created by dropping two apps on-top of each other.
Cheers.
Edit: I should probably rename this folder to something like Daily
