Every time I flash a new ROM, the SIM is corrupted and I can't connect to AT&T.
SIM card was out before and during flash.
USB disconnected during flash.
The APN Settings are fine.
I even put a good, working SIM card (from another phone) in the device and I got service. I also put the bad SIM in the other phone and it ALSO got no service.
The APN settings are equal on both phones.
I had to go to AT&T and get a new SIM activated. I do not want to do this every time I flash a new ROM.

Bad luck. There is no way your phone picks and chooses what sim card to mess up after flashing (you said it corrupted your sim card, but not another one you tried?), and if it does you need to find a new phone

It did this on two different phones with two different roms (Darky 8 and Pheonix 2.5).

This is just highly unlikely, especially if you did everything you claimed to do (removing the sim card, unplugged during flashing, etc)

Hey guys,
I have a Galaxy S i9000 International Version, and I'm in New Zealand. I was running Darky's Rom 10.2 RE, and I tried updating to 10.2.2 Final. I did something stupid, I think I might have had my lagfix on, but I managed to bootloop. I reflashed to a Gingerbread ROM that I had lying around, but my SIM card was no longer recognized. I tried another SIM card, which also didn't work. My SIM card worked in another phone though.
I had a look around, and my IMEI number was still right, so I backed up my EFS, just in case I killed it. I then flashed a local stock Froyo rom, VNZJP3. Still no sim card recognized. So right now, I'm on a Stock Froyo rom, rooted, and I have no idea where to go.
did you flash the roms with sim card in the phone? That could have been the problem, that happened to me.
I took my phone back to shop where i got it and they replaced the sim card and problem fixed.
I did indeed. Other SIM cards don't work in the phone though and the SIM card works in other phones.
FWIW this happened to me (also on a Darkys ROM oddly enough)
After initial panic I simply reflashed the ROM and all was fine.
Silly question but have you enabled all the services (like use packet data etc)
I did reflash my rom, no dice. Also, my services are definitely enabled, but it doesn't actually recognized the SIM card.

Check that the into your phone is displaying is the same as what it is written on your phones box or something!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
I never remove the sim card when flashing. Maybe " airplane " mode is ON.
Quick background:
- I have an International version, sourced from Latin America
- I have rooted the phone but NOT custom ROM
- I have Straight Talk service
The phone was just working fine for almost 1 month, can receive call, SMS, etc. Just today, I shutdown the phone and took out the microSD card and SIM.
I copied some files to the microSD card using a reader and left the phone with the SIM and battery out for about 30 minutes.
I put the microSD, SIM and battery and rebooted the phone. Suddenly, I got Emergency Calls only!
I have tried to "fix" it but to no avail:
1). Looking at the 3 PIN in the SIM slot, they are all INTACT, nothing bend or broken or lopse
2). The SIM card works - tested it in another 2 different phone and can make calls, etc.
3). I did CWM recovery to a backup from 1 day ago (when the phone still works)
Anyone have this experiences or my phone just DEAD?
weird...
try do the hard reset (try not to restore anything yet), if still doesn't change anything... flash new radio (LC1)
I disassembled my Note using the instructions from here to check if any of the 6 (SIX) SIM Card connector is bent and it is NOT.
I am putting it back together now and will do factory reset (this is what you meant by "hard reset", right?). I will post back with updates/
PS: this is INDEED weird. The phone works OK, Wifi works, sound works, screen works, microSD card is readable, everything works EXCEPT the GSM connection! And I didn't even mess aroud with the custom ROM/kernel/radio!
did u test other sim card on that phone yet?

I don't have an extra SIM card. What I did was take out the Straight Talk (ST) SIM card from my Note and put it in another unlocked GSM phone (Nokia N73). The Nokia N73 works with the ST SIM.
I just did a "Factory Reset" and still the same thing.
Before I try the radio flash, what will this "software" do to the Note modem? I am just curious how it will fix it.
BTW, my Baseband vesion is "BKK1", and I don't see the radio for this baseband in the link you provided. Which one should I use?
PDA: N7000UBKK2
PHONE: N7000UBKK1
CSC: N7000UWHKK2
flashing the radio doesn't effect your rom... try them.
try to borrow your neighbor sim card first before flash new radio.

Try to clean the Sim slot.
Yes, I tried cleaning the SIM slot. I have been very careful with my Note since day 1.
Someone mentioned that they have the same problem and was able to fix it by flashing STOCK ROM back.
I searched in the development section and could not find ROM for my phone (N7000UBKK1). Do you have any idea where I can get this from?
Well, looks like my phone is toast. I have tried the following:
1). Wipe data, cache, Dalvik and restore to CWR backup --> NO GO
2). Do a "factory reset" --> NO GO
3). Install stock firmware using Odin --> NO GO
NOTE: had to search for stock firmware on the Internet since it is NOT available in XDA
The only thing I haven't tried is flashing the modem firmware, but this is NOT available anywhere in XDA either.
The ST SIM card works because I tried this on two other GSM phone. Only the Note show "Emergency Call Only" message.
So now I have a $600 media player that I can't event sell. I guess serves me right for buying an International version with ZERO warranty and just happen that there is NO modem firmware for my phone.

LOL
Anyhow,
I found out the solution to this problem by accident, and there doesn`t appear to be a solution anywhere else on the internet. Turn off your phone and restart it. As soon as you are able to do so, open up setting, or any other app. When your phone goes into cool down mode, hold down the home button. A screen will come back asking you to select an app. Select whatever you opened prior to cool down mode (If you need to get into settings press the search button and search for settings after your out of CDM). You then need to do two things. Go to Running services (Settings>Applications>Running services), find detect battery service, touch it and stop it. To the best of my knowledge, it doesn`t do anything to your phone, other than activate cool down mode. Then go to manage applications (Settings>Applications>Manage applications) press your menu button and select filter> all applications. Find Battery protect, click on it, and select force stop. This allows your phone to get reception. You will have to do this every time your phone starts up, but it isn`t too much of a hassel for a truely excelent phone. The Cool down mode problem is definitly a software fault.

HELP!!
I have also had this same problem. My phone is STOCK I have not touched it. got the phone on last Monday working fine until the battery level ran right down yesterday, then I got message to "insert sim card!", ever since re-starting the phone I no longer can make calls!. I had no intension of rooting or messing with this phone and decided to wait until official ICS, but now what do I do?, is this a common problem?.
Tried previous instruction on this post, but unable to find any battery service running on the device.
Please help!!
I now also have this issue after updating to the latest firmware via Kies.
UPDATE: I got mine checked and it looks like the replacement unit I got had its SIM card broken. Dodgy eBay seller.
Just fyi, never insert MicroSim card adaptor in Galaxy Note. Mine works now after spending $100. Jeez
FYI, I tried all of the suggested solutions in this thread and I still have problem. So I returned the Note and got the AT&T version... At least now I got US Warranty
Same thing just happened to my phone. Rogers Galaxy note II.
Tried bunch of different SIM cards, none work.
Got the SIM reader app, phone reads SIM just fine. Data connection also works, but refuses to make voice calls "emergency only".
So pissed, wanna throw this phone against the wall.
Did anyone find a solid solution? Mine did this today, Stock never been rooted or anything! Any ideas?
Okay, I posted this question in the I9300 Q&A section by accident (was a bit distraught, didn't read the section title properly), but for some reason a mod appears to have deleted the thread instead of moving it, so here it is again in the correct section.
So after using my I9305 for about 8-9 months now, I woke up this morning to find my phone nonoperational. The phone requests on boot a "SIM network unlock PIN". If this window is dismissed, the pulldown notifications drawer states "Invalid SIM card" with subtitle "Network locked SIM card inserted". Quick Googling reveals that these notifications and errors typically show that a phone is locked to a specific carrier. Now that's understandable, but this phone is unlocked, and I hadn't even taken the SIM card out until this error occurred. The SIM card works just fine in another phone.
I've tried rebooting the phone (first port of call), and using the code *#197328640# in the dialer to SIM unlock as per this post (but I didn't have "[4] NW LOCK NV Data INNITIALLIZ" as an option). I tried using "busybox chown 1001:1001 /efs/nv_data.bin" in terminal emulator as root, after seeing this post, but it came with an error of "chown: /efs/nv_data.bin: NO such file or directory". So... how bad do things look? And no... I don't have a backup of my efs. =[

Since then, I also tried *#06# in the dialer, and my IMEI is intact.

Maybe try flash a stock pre-rooted rom by lriquidperfection with odin and try the *# again?
Tried various different stock ROMs and factory resets, nothing.
You need to flash a 4.1.1 ROM, or at least a modem from such a ROM.

Not sure why doing anything with the battery would be in any way related with the SIM. I also forgot to mention that I had already tried cleaning the SIM card at the start with alcohol. In any case, the SIM card works fine in another phone, so it appears that there isn't problem with the SIM card. In any case, I managed to RMA the phone, now the long wait to get it back...

Got my phone back from the shop today. Kept an eye on the shipping tracking when I sent it out, and they sent it back out half a day after they took delivery, so I'm guessing they used a SIM unlock code since it's definitely my phone that I got back. Didn't have to pay anything, so I'm happy. Still not sure why/how the phone decided to lock itself though...

I was using the stock Samsung ROM.
We came to Costa Rica with two identical GT-19000M Samsung Galaxy S phones and both worked just fine. One appeared to lose the ability to pick up its signal. I have a proven working Sim card from the first phone. The second phone has been updated on Kies and factory formatted quite a few times. When I put the working Sim card into the second phone it asks for the Costa Rica PIN number (which it should) so I know it is finding the Sim card. Once booted up everything looks normal like in seeing it has the Sim card but I am unable to get service. Switch it back to phone #1 and I have 5 bars of service. Any ideas would be appreciated.
have you tired flashing a different baseband? check the baseband of the phone that has no service and see if it's the same as the one that has service.

It is indeed a different baseband but I am out of my league. I looked on line and do not know how to flash it.
you will need to find a baseband for your region, all you will have to do is boot to recovery and flash it then reboot. some basebands here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158783
the links here are died but will give you idea of region you will need http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1870460
I just got an old htc ph39100 and it met some troubles like this. After rebooting, it usually lost imei and baseband so my phone has no service. But if I try to reboot many times, finally it has service and Imei and baseband too. But if I turn off or restart my device, it has same troubles again.
I tried to flash RUU file to come back stock rom but it doesn't solve the problem
So anyone can help me to fix this?

I checked a lot of times but no luck. I just wondering if it's sim card slot problem, so why my device doesn't recognize IMEI, baseband? After many many times try to reboot, some how it have service again and IMEI and baseband appear. But all of them were lost after rebooting.

SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module....
If the information you are talking about is missing... Its usually because the gold contact on the card isn't making a connections to the gold pins in your phone... Especially when its intermittent...
Try this...
Take the back cover off the phone with the power off... Push down LIGHTLY on your SIM slot and hold it... Then push power... If the slot is under the battery... Try a little shim under the battery on top of the SIM slot... We are just trying to push down on the card a little...
