Nook Color: scp - Nook Color General

Hi everyone -
I am running Nook Color, rooted, and I am wondering how I can connect to is via SCP from Windows. The page at [nookdevs.com/NookColor_Shell_access says that
"Boot the NC from the microSD card as per the above instructions through step 3. Your computer should now detect a new ethernet device connected to USB. Leave the NookColor running on the SD card boot for any of the following."
There's no step 3 above...
Is there a link somewhere?
John

I think step 3 was from creating the SD card to root the nook. The wiki implies that booting from the linux image on the sd card will have ssh enabled. Since you are already rooted, you might want to consider installing ssh via instructions found at

[Q] Nook Color Honeycomb usb SD card mount?

Hi all,
I have installed Honeycomb on Nook Color working like a charm. Added Market to it using adb skd push through usb cable. When running stock nook I could plug usb cable to computer and internal drive would mount and I could copy files to nook from computer.
Now running honeycomb on SD card when I connect the use the drives show up on compture but they do not mount. Again I was able to connect and push files from computer to nook via adb commands. On my samsung captivate I was having similar problem until I figure out that there was a message in status bar that I would pull down click on and would mount SD cards. Don't seem to have that in honeycomb when connecting usb to computer.
Is there a way that can mount sd card open up in windows explorer and drag and drop files from compture to nook running honeycomb? The android's USB connected notification seems to missing on honeycomb on nookcolor
Any Ideas
Thanks
Greg
I think it's not mounting because you're running from the SDcard. If the card is in use by the system I'm pretty sure android won't let it mount but I could be wrong as I'm not familiar with honeycomb. You could always try pushing the files with adb.
Code:
adb push *filename*
Ok thanks, I will give it a try in mean time. I must be missing something because on phone it i mount internal and external drive. I will have to brush up on the adb command line.
Nook Color USB Mass Storage utility - Mount any partition to your PC
There was a post form samuelhalff in which he developed a NookColorUMS-0.3b.apk that mounts drive. so I will try tonight but in mean time I am not sure of cli adb commands that I should use. where do I push it to on the nook, I am running honeycomb from SD cards

I'm running HC from the SD card, and the best way to mount drives is using samuelhalff's mounting utility (since the SD card is partitioned and it supports this!). I believe you must have Superuser available to use it, so below are the links you need to both the app/instructions for the app and for gaining superuser on HC.

Superuser

I've got this working, and can confirm it works like a champ!
Sweeet will give it a try, I read something that sound was not working on HC but the little I have played around with it appears that I am getting some sound. I want to load a mp4 on it see how it plays.
Thanks again
This application was quite easy to use.
1. Plug USB in Nook and connect to PC
2. Open NookColorUMS.
3. Select "Mount Media"
4. Nook Pops up on PC.
Thanks a lot
This app finally made my nook into a full android tablet.

[Q] How-to Mount SD Card 4th Partition?

I'm attempting to follow the directions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=998861 to create a customized bootable SD image. One of the steps involves copying some files to the 4th partition of the SD card.
I've attempted to use the NookColorUMS utility (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952456) without success. I was able to download, install, and launch the application. My understanding is that I need to connect the USB cable to the NC and my PC and then choose to mount the 4th partition in the UMS application.. however, as soon as the NC is connected to the PC, I can no longer interact with the NC (it displays the message about transferring files between the devices) until I unplug the USB cable again.
Apparently, the other option is to use the ADB utility, but I don't really understand how that works.. do I have to download the Android SDK to my PC first? If so, I prefer the method above, but I have not had any luck.. thanks in advance.
I used VirtualBox-4.0.4-70112-Win with Ubuntu 10.0 installed, this lets me see all the partitions if using a usb reader.
Thanks, I'm trying to use this utility if I can, though. Installing a virtualization suite and then Linux on top of it just to be able to see a partition on an SD card is more work than necessary, in my opinion..
I too use NOkk Color UMS....
When I connect to nook, i get the usb storage notification...I do not enable usb storage...
Then...I open nookcolor ums and am able to mount the 4th sd card partition...
Do u turn on the usb storage mode?
I'm honestly not sure why I couldn't get it to work.. I ended up using another method to create the SD image that only has one partition on it, so I was able to copy files to the card without any additional utilities.
I found this to be the simplest and easiest - just drag and drop:

[Q] rooting without an sd card

The first methods of rooting a Nook was without a SD card.......... you put a file in the root directory of your Nook via USB. I have a Nook color with a broken SD card slot (next question was if anyone had a broken Nook I could buy with a intact SD slot that I can cannibalize) I want to root it. Does anyone remember the procedure and/or have the file? It (the Nook) otherwise works fine, and USB works fine as well. Any info would be appreciated.
Chuck

No card reader? No problem.

These facts may seem obvious, but not only was I unable to locate them when I needed them, I also received a lot of misinformation.
You can write a bootable image to an SD in your Nook via USB. With a stock NC booted up, fully awake and the screen unlocked, just plug in the USB.
The NC will read the boot partition of a bootable SD card (for instance, a CM7 card prepared using verygreen's method). In my case, it would not read a card inserted while the stock OS was running, but if you remove the card, reboot, and insert the card before the stock OS finishes loading (for instance, on the blinding white "Nook Color" splash screen), it will load up the boot partition as if it were SD storage. You can then mount the SD boot partition over USB and drop in new ROMs or update files from your PC.
NC OR SD NOT SHOWING UP IN WINDOWS?
If only the NC shows up and not the SD, eject, disconnect, and try again.
If Windows does not properly install the drivers, go to Device Manager through the Control Panel (or right-click My Computer and go to Properties), find the USB Mass Storage Device marked by a yellow triangle and exclamation point, right click it and "uninstall." Then, in the Actions menu of Device Manager, "Scan for new hardware."
Rinse and repeat both methods as necessary until both the NC and the SD appear as separate USB drives.
I've had tremendous trouble getting Win7 x64 to recognize the NC, especially running the stock OS, but these steps eventually resolve it.

Having Trouble With Nook HD+ 2.0.5

I have looked all over xda for a tutorial on rooting a Nook HD+ 2.0.5 Tablet
I have tried all sorts of tutorials. I cannot seem to find a root that will just put gapps on.
I tried:
Allinone.bat
root_win
all the cmds do is just close seconds after opening them.
Is there a way I can downgrade my HD+ Tablet to a lower version so i can root?
Im just a lost duck right now
I can understand your frustration, haha. It's not big problem, you can root and place GAPPs onto your device. Please follow the guide below, which I have wrote previously but have adapted into this post.
However, before you do so, please make sure you have a minimum 4GB microSD card present (I used a SanDisk 4GB class 4). When you register your device, your Nook will check for updates. It will find 2.0.5 and update to it. Just so you know, someone0 and leapinlar have worked together to bring a "Universal Root" for the Nook HD+ and that universal root even roots version 2.0.5 (thank you someone0 and leapinlar; I'm currently using it). After registering your device, you will be introduced to your Nook interface. It's empty, even the apps are pretty much useless (except for Browser, only positive); you can't even spend more than 10 minutes on it, without enjoying what your doing. So I would recommend the root + GAPPs to unlock most of the "Android" features. To use the universal root, you'll need to boot into CWM (ClockWorkMod) via SD card (minimum of 4GB, anything less won't be detected/viable). Before registering and continuing with what I say, please make sure you are able to write onto your SD card using your computer. Although we are using CWM, we are NOT going to flash any ROMs (unless you want to of course, but the following "guide" below won't detail so).
First, you'll need to insert your SD card into your computer; where you're in a position where you can write on the card. (Files links/sources/information was sourced from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062613 by leapinlar)
Write the CWM .img (NookHD+bootable-CWM-6023-for-emmc-stock-4GB.zip) onto the SD Card using "Win32diskimager in Windows or use the dd command in Linux or OSX".
Download NookHD+Universal-Root.zip and place it within the SD Card. Also do this for the GAPPS + EXTRAS (including ManualOTA and Unknown Sources) .zip file, which you can download here (put together by leapinlar). DO NOT extract the .zip, just place them into the SD card.
At this point, make sure you have registered your Nook HD+, updated and installed version 2.0.5. Also make sure you have launched the stock ROM at least once (i.e. turned on the device into the Nook software/modified Android OS).
Now, turn off your device (hold the power button until a message is displayed on screen, and press shut down, or similar on screen). At the bottom of the Nook, on the left of the charging port, there is a cover protecting the SD card slot. Take it out (not all the way, it's attached to the body), and place in your SD card (with the CWM and universal root, as well optionally the GAPPS; although recommend installed on the SD card).
With the SD card in, turn your Nook on. After a few seconds, you should load into CWM. Select the option "install .zip from SD card" (use volume up/down to move across the list, "n" button below screen to select, and power button to move up one menu).
Firstly, install "NookHD+Universal-Root.zip". Wait for it to fully install, then install the GAPPS + Extras.
After the last step, reboot your device and take out the SD card before reboot. You should now load into your stock OS, whilst being rooted and and GAPPs installed on version 2.0.5. Success!
After the above guide, I would personally recommend Nova Launcher Prime; it unleashes the full experience of Android for me anyway. Haha, from now it's all yours.
All the best, and I hope this works for you. :victory:

Ok Sweet,
Do I need a mini sd Reader to be able to write the .img or can i just put the mini sd in the nook and write from that.
Once im done rooting the device i can take out the mini sd and replace with a regular one?
Unfortunately, you'll need a MicroSD Card Reader. Most modern laptops often have them integrated (hence, how I was able to do it). If you're on a desktop, you may need to purchase a reader, or see if you can borrow a friend's laptop, or a library's? You can't write onto the card via Nook connected to the card; it often corrupts after ejecting and may not allow you to root, or even boot up CWM. You'll need to connect it directly to the computer.
Also you only need the SD card temporarily to root, and install GAPPS. After that, you do not need a microSD card (unless you want to use it as external storage). If you want to use the card as external storage after rooting, just format the whole card. If you do not want to use it as external storage, you can just root your device, and take out the card and leave it as it is. You do NOT need the card after rooting + GAPPS.
Also please make sure you're using a MicroSD card, and not a miniSD. miniSD's are not compatible with Nook HD+, but a microSD is.
Best of luck.
Is there Cyanogenmod 10 for the HD+ also? if so where is the tutorial for that.
Will it fully remove the reader side of my nook? for example; i wont be able to buy books from B&N

Yes, look in the development thread. It gets installed on SD so your stock is left alone. And you can add the android Nook app and have access to your purchased books.
Sent from my HD+ rooted stock using Tapatalk
Thanks
Thanks Hidden G. Worked like a Champ. I used a Sandisk Class 4 4GB card
