If you're still stuck, you can unplug it and start over. But before you do, jot down what the Odin log shows, so we can tell what got flashed up to the hang.
Also, post more info, like what firmware you were running, what brand unit, etc.
Will do.. Thank you sir.
roto's the man for any problems as always lol
I have a sch-i800 tab (verizon) at this point. Odin is waiting forever with movinand.mst
Any thoughts to unstick?
I am in the same boat with a Vzw Tab. Has there been any luck with anyone since Feb?
any fix for this?
I'm on a Verizon Tab and getting stuck at this part too. Been an hour so far. Does it take a long time? How do I fix it? Thanks in advance.
Still nothing on this???
just happened to me finally failed tab shut down and will not turn back on
I'm in the same boat. Trying to flash Roto-JMI-Fullv2 after a botched flash with CWM. Tab is currently showing the hone, triangle and PC screen, and Odin 1.70 is stuck on movinand.mst. My tab is a verizon unit.
Does anyone solved this movinand.mst freeze problem?
Ouch! Bricked mine too. Too bad that Tablet was really a nice device.
I guess when Sprint says they don't want your device updated you'd better listen.
I can't even get back to factory reset now.
Any update on this?
I am on the same situation:
Odin hangs at movinand.mst
Here's the log:
Code:
<ID:0/018> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/018> zImage
<ID:0/018> param.lfs
<ID:0/018> cache.rfs
<ID:0/018> dbdata.rfs
<ID:0/018> factoryfs.rfs
<ID:0/018> modem.bin
<ID:0/018> movinand.mst
<ID:0/018>
<ID:0/018> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
I tired out of curiosity to create a new package WITHOUT movinand.mst, and it flashes with no problems (but of course would't boot!)
So I guess the problem really is at movinand.mst?
Another theory: maybe it's not movinand.mst per se, but just that Odin hang after certain time, and being movinand the last one it happen to be there?
At a certain point I had to replace my USB cable. As I was in China when I bought the spare cable I cannot be sure about it's quality, maybe slower cable- causes odin's timeout?
seems the problem is actually movinand.mst
I created 2 copies of the .TAR, one with everything BUT movinand.mst, one with only movinand.mst. The first one loads with no problem, the one with movinand.mst fails.
With other fw (eg: XXJQ1) i get the same situation on hidden.rfs.
something wrong with these 2...
it's defintely me
I am having problems with all possible roms: i have tried JME, JQ1 and others, always something wrong happens at the end.
The best I can get to is to get to the flashing logo, but no boot.
I have tried chainfire's SGTBootloaderCheck-1.0 (while in recovery mode) and it tells me I am clean..
i dont know what to do, it doesnt look like a heavy brick, but I cannot get out of it!
Can you still enter download mode? try manually flashing factoryfs and kernel from a stock rom via heimdall.
That usually manages to get me out of a soft brick.
@will
I had the phone and pc screen to after a botched odin load. Its rather known as the "you suck at loading software" screen lol. Rest assured its just a soft brick if you can atleast get to it or see it so all hope isn't lost. Its another download mode screen basically.

Although mine is the tmo version relatively the basic mechanics should be doable.
I fixed mine by plugging it into the computer and once that screen comes on odin should detect it. It took a while so just be patient. Once odin shows the yellow com box have the pit and the roms tar file ready. Click Start and it should catch and load the rom. That's what i did and it got me back up and running.
If your battery is dead then just plug it in the wallcharger for 2hrs. Should give the battery enough charge to complete the procedure.
My advice is to find a stock Verizon GB rom with pit and tar files. After that just look for a custom kernel that gives cwm.
After that you can flash other roms once your back in action. Hope this helped a fellow gtab user ;-)

hi @Derrian, i can get to download mode.
I have tried many Rom's but all fail at either hidden.rfs of movinand.mst (depending their content).
Could you suggest me any ROM in particular you have tried?
Do You think it has to be THE original from brand (china unicom) or it can be any stock version?
thanks!

I would suggest using Boca, it is in my opinion the easiest to flash.

I am reading Boca's instructions for the first time.
If I understand correctly, the bases are the same as Overcome: the assumptions is that you install the ROM using CWM recovery of a clean and working GB_Stock_safe_v5 install, then flash OC's kernel to convert FS to ext4.
But in my case I cannot Flash GB_Stock_safe_v5, as Odin would fail at hidden.rfs.
I am not sure that is a good idea to change FS formatting on a semi-bricked tab as mine?
Could I revert back if something goes wrong?

I have the same screen as posted above.
I also got it in download-mode..but when I try to flash the phone in ODIN it's not progressing...

I am trying to flash it again, but nothing happens..
im trying to post a screenshot which im not allowed to do apparantly..
i fixed it by holding doing the hard reset, after that, reboot your PC before the next attempt..
did the trick for me !
I already had this problem too, and naturaly tried two things
A: remove battery => useless
B: hold on the download mode keys => after a few seconds it worked ^^
but just in case, what is this hard reset that you are speaking about ???
This is what I did so far, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Step by step:
1. Loaded PIT (version 513) and PHONE / CODE / SRS in Odin
2. SIM and SD card phone
3. Download-mode phone
4. Connected phone to PC
5. Flashed phone (JG5)
6. Flashing done, rebooted phone
7. Android screen appeared with a number of options (update file / ...)
8. Pressed the Home-button (one of the options chosen, can not remember for sure ..)
9. Rebooted phone but does not go beyond animation and galaxy logo
10. After this nothing happens ..
11. put phone in recovery mode (hard reset)
12. put in download mode (soft reset)
13. tried to re-flash procedure but did not start
14. Kies reinstalled
15. Restarted PC
16. Reconnected phone
17. Tried other USB ports
18. Flash-process started again but no progress
19. Started again from step 1 (now with PIT 512 and firmware WJM1 PIT)
20. Now flash did start
21. Restarted phone, again same screen from Step 7
22. Chose repartion-option and then rebooted
23. Restarted phone again but progress does not go beyond animation and galaxy logo
24. After this nothing happens again ..
I'm using Windows 7 64bit..Geez, ealier I had no problems at all with flashing my old samsung jet..
Would it be possible that my galaxy S is just like dead or something?
Does it hang on the logo screen or does it close the logo screen and then hang?
After flashing it does stay on the logo screen for a while, 5-10 minutes sometimes.

Hi there
Right now my Samsung Galaxy S wouldn't turn on.
Before this happened, I tried to flash DXJG4 on my device but ODIN got stuck at factoryfs.rfs for ages (more than 10 minutes). So I unpluged the device and took out the batterry. Then i inserted in the battery again and press Volume Down+Home+Power Botton (to get into download mode again). but nothing happens. Cannot even get anything to come up no matter what i press.
Im freaked out right now. Can somebody please help?
Edit : The screen comes back up now after a 30 minute darkness. phew!

Maybe try to download firmware again as well as pit file. Then try to flash it again. Its really hard to brick this phone. Of course I understand that you have usb drivers properly installed and you know well flashing procedure with odin.

it'll not be possible to flash anything if you can't even mange to turn it on
at the very least in the worse case scenario you should see this fail screen of a bad flash

you could try going into RECOVERY MODE first,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/Vibrant_GT-I9000M
then select the options to Wipe Cache, then Wipe Data
reboot,
now go back into Download Mode
and try to flash with Odin3 again
and make sure Check the box to REPARTITION

Don't take your phone to the store... =)
Just try this:

- Count to 3 and say "Cú da velha"
- Ask someone to plug in the battery
Welcome to download mode... I hope =)

Hello guys.
I just have one very weird problem with my phone.
Previously, i've been using the asian singapore firmware dxjf4. Today, I decided to flash over to JG5, but didn't like it. So i flashed back to my asian firmware.
What happened is, during the point of flashing, my phone says
E:Error in /cache/recovery/sec_csc.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted.
Then installation of firmware terminated. Therefore, my phone is still bricked, and I don't know how to revert it back to the asian firmware.
When i flashed the european jg5 firmware, i had to add in the .pit 512, the csc, the pda, and the modem. But for the asian firmware, i only need the pda. So did i flash incorrectly? please help!
Do i need to do a factory data reset before i flash?
Or is there a special way to flash from jg5 to dxjf4?
I wouldn't want another firmware as a solution, because the singapore firmware has specific features and i got certain carrier benefits from the 2 year contract phone line that could enable those specific features.
Thanks.
So i've been playing with my captivate which i had bricked, sent in to samsung, they fixed it and send it back, and i bricked it again the day i got it. I finally managed to get something on my screen! Anyone know what this is?

I did not have the USB plugged in, and i pushed on the bottom right side of the phone a couple times squeezing to make sure the battery was in, so i dont know if maybe one of the soft-keys was a part of bringing it up, or if this screen even matters to anything?

I've been trying for a couple months now to get into download mode. This is the first time ive seen anything on the screen since trying. Under my thumb is an asterisks (*) on the left edge of the display, but i can never get anywhere. I've tried all methods from http://samsungcaptivate.wikia.com/wiki/Putting_the_Phone_into_Download_Mode
Nothing lets me in! But im gonna keep trying...
I got it again! It says:
RST_STAT = 0x1
PMIC_IRQ1 = 0x0
PMIC_IRQ2 = 0x0
PMIC_IRQ3 = 0x14
PMIC_IRQ4 = 0x0
PMIC_STATUS1 = 0xc0
PMIC_STATUS2 = 0x2c
Any idea what that is? I plugged the phone into the comp with the USB cable, no battery, no sim card, no sd card. after plugging it in i held volume UP + power and put in the battery and it came up!
Remove every thing batter sim memory card, Press both volume plug in the cable then battery, Or both volume then battery and then cable or make a jig it will 100% work.
Its actually working now, its getting into download mode just fine, i think my problem was a cable that just doesnt want to work, i have to position it JUST Right to get a connection with the PC that sticks, or else it connects and disconnects immediatly!
So im on Linux (Ubuntu 11.04) and im using Heimdall One-Click to try and flash Android back on, but i get errors... every time...
The main one im getting is when its trying to setup the interface after i click flash, it just sits there forever and if i click the details button, it shows that it failed.
Any ideas?
Ok, here's the error information when it DOES connect and tries to upload the kernel:
Code:
Claiming interface again...
Setting up interface...
Beginning session...
Handshaking with Loke...
Downloading device's PIT file...
PIT file download sucessful
Uploading KERNELKERNEL upload failed!
Ending session...ERROR: Failed to send file part packet!
Clearly not a lot of information, but i'm using Terminal to run the jar file in administrator mode, and it does this each way.. I think im goin to reboot and try odin one-click in windows and see if i get anything different?
Ok back in Windows 7. Using the AIO toolbox, im doing the 1 click flash to stock option, and in Odin, this is what i see after hitting the start button:
Code:
<ID:0/004> Added!!
<ID:0/004> Odin v.3 engine (ID:4)..
<ID:0/004> File analysis..
<ID:0/004> Set PIT file..
<ID:0/004> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
Never really changes from that....? I've also tried Odin 3-Click where i select the PIT file and the PDA file (the firmware file) and do it that way but that also freezes and doesnt continue... Any ideas?

Nope, grabbed the shiny new one thats only been used a few times. I can get into download mode, but nothing will flash... And the ONLY way to get into download mode is to plug in the usb cable and hold down the volume buttons when putting in the battery, no other "simple" method works (havent tried the jig or unbrickable mods).
Wow i finally got it! Its actually progressing through the flash right now, and i think i know what happened.
In windows, when you connect and disconnect a device, windows lets you know with sounds... Well with a new cord or old cord, the phone would reconnect a few times (many more with the old cord) when plugging it in and getting it going, and when it does it many times, the flash doesnt work...
But when i connect it the first time and am careful not to move anything so that it connects only once and i click the start button, it works!
It just passed the AT&T logo and finished the animation for the Galaxy S logo.. Wow its gonna work! Sweet jebus!
Glad it is working.
it did seem from what you were posting you were having a connection problem such as a bad cable.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yeah it seemed like a cable problem, but its really just the port on the phone, its so worn out the mini-usb fits in loosly, even brand new cables... ugg...
Well now im having other scrambled screen issues, but they only occurred after installing the Apex 10 rom, so im talking with them now to see if they have any idea why its doing that... If they cant figure out the scrambled screen issue im having, than im gonna try some other roms to determine if its them or the phone.. Could be either!
Thanks for the help!
Apex is a gingerbread rom looks like u did not flashed the GB bootloaders before flashing the rom.

That's it.
you also won't be able to get into recovery.
If you're going to flash bootloaders with your connection issues it is quite possible you will hard brick if it disconnects while the flash is in progress.
Hey all,
As per title, A while back I rooted and installed a few custom roms on my unit before sticking with one named
"GT-7000_SweetROM_V11.1_LTA" and all was going well until a "super user" app update and a "low battery" met in the middle and my phone lost power and turned off.
Now my phone will not boot and freezes on the samsung logo, pressing vol up + power + home will, not bring up the recovery mode
but vol down + power + home will take me to a download screen, Odin, if my research is right.
I've read a few posts with the same symptoms as me but with different reasons for getting there in the first place and I'm unsure of what to do.
If my reading has been correct I'm not hard bricked but am in a bit of a spot and PC Odin can help me out, but then there are different versions of Odin as well.
Just some more bits and peices that I can think of to try and give you all as much info as possible. here goes,
I do remember Philz ???? something on my phone and was able to switch between roms by placing them on the external micro sd card and using vol up + power + home to navigate a menu.
Whilst writing this post I have had my unit plugged in via usb and it justs sits there with the battery icon showing but it shows no movement ie: the little cirle will not spin nor will the green charge level go up. Also it tried to install "mobi" something onto my pc.
Another problem I'm having is finding a valid download link for PC Odin any help there would be cool.
If you need anymore info I'll do my best but I'm very new to this, many thanks

just for info my phone acts the same wether plugged into comp or the wall socket with samsung hardware
guess Im screwed eh?
thanks
I would try a new battery.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
I'm sure the battery is fine it's the phone thats mucked up, I've not had any problems to idicate my battery was failing
Are there any other avenues I could explore? I'm willing to get a new battery but then I could have 1 phone and 2 dead batteries and no way of charging.
When I tried flashing PhilZ kernel and the jb rom with Odin it was Odin that did its thing then reported to have failed, the phone had power to it the whole time and was showing the download screen with the message "do not turn off target".
thanks for you help so far

Thanks for helping out :good:
Drivers are up to date, installed kies then uninstalled leaving the drivers behind.
USB, have used all the ports on my pc
Changed cable, used the wife's S3 cable
Ports, I can open ports easy, thought that was just router tho
PC, not sure what you mean there but running Win7 with decent spec.
Still the same outcome, fails on connection
thanks for taking the time tho

I saw that link earlier and tried 'PhilZ-cwm6-ZSLR1-OZS-5.11.2.tar.md5' and after reading your last post went back and tried 'PhilZ-cwm6-ZSLR1-OZS-5.11.2.tar.md5'
dont think its the rom heres the text from odin:
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> PhilZ-cwm6-DDLSC-ODD-5.11.2.tar.md5 is valid.

seems to be hanging on a connection
1. Install the latest drivers from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956/
2. Reboot
3. Disable all antiviruses
4. On your phone:
a) Boot into download mode
b) Plug your phone into your PC (only plug it into the USB 2.0 ports, don't do it on 3.0 or 1.1 or 1.0 etc.)
c) Follow the on screen instructions saying something along the lines of "Press volume up to continue" - you want to continue
d) Check whether Odin has detected your phone, if it has continue to step 5
5. Flash a stock ROM or kernel
6. If it succeeds, boot into recovery and perform a factory reset <= ONLY IF IT ISN"T ICS
OK.. Odin is not able to get to the PIT mappings.. There seems to be some connection issues. Check with newer version of Odin.. Also probably a different pc.

Uninstall moboginie drivers as well completely.

done all of this with same result, as soon as I try to flash ROM Odin waits a while then reports fail
Tried with latest version of Odin, 3.07 and that just sits at 'SetupConnection' in the dialog box

I got that mobogenie rubbish by accident once too, it came with daemon tools.
Can you perhaps try those steps on another computer?

I do have an old lappy but it has Ubuntu installed and that drives me nuts lol, only other option is to put Odin plus Rom onto memory stick and visit a friend..
You said something about PIT and Ive seen some posts on it, I guess that roue is last resort?
really appreciate you help here
If there is a proper connection, then odin should be able to get the partition mapping from the phone and will be displayed as
<ID:0/004> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/004> Initialzation..
<ID:0/004> Get PIT for mapping..

There is no revert back to 4.4.2. What you've linked to is jelly bean. And there is no going back there. What is your issue exactly?

Have you tried either pulling the battery or holding the power button for about 15 seconds to boot back into system? ? Or is there no system to go back to? Which there should be with stock recovery.

Battery pull shuts off phone then I put it back in and it just goes to download mode. if I hold the power button for 15 seconds it just boots back into download mode. It is stock recovery.

Uh oh. This is beyond my comprehension. I don't know how this happened with a stock recovery. Hold tight and someone else should be able to help better than I can. What were you trying to do when this happened?

All I can think to do is boot into recovery and hit reboot system. Then let it sit. It usually takes mine about 5 mins from there. We can't use odin and without safe strap there is no flashing a replacement rom.
If you can get to att boot screen give it as long as you can to boot

That's crazy. From a dead phone if you hold volume up home key and power button in that order you can't get to recovery? I don't mean to state the obvious but I don't know how familiar you are. I've had 8 note 3s and I've never been in a spot where I can't get to recovery.

Im sorry. I thought I'd take a crack at it. I don't know where to lead you from there. I wish you the best. I've bricked a few phones myself.
I hope you get it resolved. SOMEONE here will be able to help you.

I sent you a PM if you could look at it, it may help.
I'm in the exact same situation and have been trying everything that's been posted but still no success. I'm going to hangout here and see if we can find something that can be done or point us in the right direction. Just letting you know you're not alone on this bud
Hey guys. Check out my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65467618&postcount=6, read through everything and start at step #4 where you flash the NC2 stock image in the odin AP slot, this should get your phone working again. After that feel free to continue to follow the steps to root, etc. Let me know if this doesn't work and I'll do my best to continue to help.
As long as you can get into download mode, your phone is fine. I've went out of my way testing these to try and permanently brick this phone. I even got it to stop being detected by a computer while in download mode and was still able to recover.
Best of luck
I have a question and I hope someone is still reading through these threads. I have a Galaxy Note 3 AT&T SM-N900A. When I bought it a couple weeks ago, (I already own another one but a T-Mobile variant, to which I've had no issues) I wanted to root it. So I did. Then I removed some system apps. Then I realized I wanted to update it since it was only 4.3! Well OTA was out of the question and so was KIES as I rooted. SO I thought it'd be best to unroot and flash stock firmware and continue to update via OTA. That has not happened. Every time I try to flash stock firmware, regardless of the version of Odin, regardless of where I downloaded the firmware, I always get a fail!!! NOTHING WORKS!!! I even unistalled KIES, reinstalled drivers, tried different USB chords, including the one that came with the phone!!!! I just want to get it back to it's original state so that I can update it via OTA or KIES. I'll paste the ODIN message and a thumbnail that has a screenshot of my phone in download mode when ODIN fails. If ANYONE can help in ANY WAY, I'll donate!!!!! I'll do almost anything!! This is driving me crazy and I'm not one who likes to admit defeat and bring it to Best Buy, especially since Best Buy is over an hour away from here!!! There has to be a way I CAN do this! Here is the ODIN fail message:

Odin may be failing because the bootloader on the phone may be newer that the bootloader you are flashing.
This might help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2703006

So I need to root it again first, then update it to Lollipop using this guide, correct?
Rooting has nothing to do with installing recovery, boot loader, or ROM.
You are using the wrong file for your phone.
