I've tried searching, but to no avail - I have installed the Gingerbread keyboard, and I cannot access the keyboard settings. I have tried Settings -> Keyboard as well as press and hold on the symbol key (this works with the Droid X keyboard just fine.) Am I missing something?
Thanks!
-- Never mind. If you just "press" on the gear key on the keyboard, the settings dialog is available.

I just loaded the black swype app and i can see it under managed apps. how can I turn that keyboard on so its my default keyboard?
If it's checked in Keyboard Settings (Menu > Settings > Keyboard and Language), just longpress on any text field and select input method.
I currently have Vlingo, Simeji and stock android keyboard inputs.
I frequently switch between Vlingo and Simeji for Japanese input, but now whenever I long press the "123" button to bring up the change input method option, selecting "input method" to switch between input methods does nothing. I'm able to go to "Vlingo Keyboard Settings", but not change the input method.
Disabled Vlingo keyboard, same problem on stock keyboard and now I'm stuck with it.
Do you mean, when you long press "123" and choose "Input method",nothing shows up?
I recently had this problem, so I used another way to switch between IMEs. Instead of using keyboard button to switch IME, long press on a text box and choose "Input method".

Click to collapse
Yeah exactly what you said.
The alternative method works too.. Just wondering what's causing the problem.
I noticed this problem since I started using Titanium backup to restore all apps... I used to do clean install of all applications but I found that very cumbersome.
Has anyone else had troubles installing a foreign language keyboard on the NC? Here are my symptoms:
- I am able to install them just fine
- In NookColorTools I am able to see and change to the new keyboard
- When I enter a text field the keyboard pops up fine.
+ BUT When I click to type the Keyboard simply minimizes / disappears
I have tried about every app out there and there is no inherent one. Almost all have the same issue with disappearing. Here is a Summary:
Simeji (the one I want working most) : Any function key, space, enter causes keyboard to minimize
OpenWnn plus : minimizes on any button push
OpenWnn : minimizes on any button push
Simeji classic : minimizes again.
MultiLing Gingerbread Keyboard Buttons work, but holding in letters (for more letters) shows no values in the popup
Very Easy Japanese Keyboard: WORKS... But the input interface is not very easy (ironic)
Google Pinyin IME WORKS completely... BUT its Chinese not Japanese :X
Now I have a million keyboards (probably missing one or two) which I can't uninstall because there doesn't seem to be a way.. and none of them work. Any ideas?
is there anyway to remove the soft (on screen) keyboard and use the stock one with Gingerbread/Froyo?
this moto/integrated swype thing kinda sucks
maybe it's because i've become so used to the suggestions/auto complete from my D1 but i really just want the basic android version
I can't verify this right now on my Droid 4 (cuz I bricked it ), but you should be able to press-and-hold the Swype menu button (the long S with the hand icon, the softbutton on the bottom left corner) and get to a menu which features a "Select Input Method" item. Use that menu and select "Android keyboard" and Bob should be your uncle.
I believe you can change the input method (keyboard) by long-pressing in any text entry box.
Thanks guys, I assumed this was a 'moto tweak' and didn't realize it was that easy to switch back.
I can't seem to find a way to change default keyboard after initial install of a new keyboard. By this I mean to say that, for instance, when I install swype the swype setup menu will allow me to select swype as default keyboard, but I can't do this from the language and input settings in settings and if I long press comma the only options I get are to change Google keyboard settings or language settings. I can't easily switch between swype and Google keyboard.
Anyone else? Maybe I'm just being an idiot?

Mine is working fine. When you go into language & input it should be under "virtual keyboard" and you can change it there.
