Tasker and Juice Defender..Over Kill? - Captivate Themes and Apps

I have the Tasker App that I made Tasks to Turn GPS On/Off as needed by various Apps and I also set a Task to Turn WiFi On/Off as needed. I am also running Juice Defender is this "Over Kill" to run both these apps at same time? I guess I am asking will Juice Defender do some other things in "background" that also helps my Battery?
Thanks

I can't speak for tasker but I found that running juice defender actually lagged my phone a little and ate up any battery I was saving by running it in the background 24/7.

I stopped using juice defender when I flashed cognition because the battery life is better. Tasker can be set to turn your data on and off. You just have to create a profile.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am learning more and more about Tasker and I am slowly getting Tasks set to just run GPS,WiFi and Data only when certain apps call of them to be used. I know any App have running all the time drains battery somewhat that is why I am trying to decide if I need both Juice Defender and Tasker both running at same time. I guess my best bet is to "trial and error" test to see if I can find the best way to save battery.

I'd remove juice defender - keep working with Tasker - and if things still aren't up to par for you then re-install Juice Defender.

My battery was actually worse with juice defender, task killers etc. Just my 2 cents.

I used the graph thing in Juice Defender, one with the internet going on and off every 15 minutes, and one with just leaving the internet on all the time.
The results didn't lie, and I uninstalled Juice Defender.

How about Autostarts...is that any better?

[Q] Juice Defender or Power Save Mode Enabler?

Hi:
Which is better, and why, Juice Defender with Ultimate Juice, or Power Save Mode Enabler? My goal is obviously to extend battery life.
Thanks!
I was using juice defender for a while but I never had backround data enabled to save battery life so I figured it wasn't doing anything, plus the enabling and disabling data didnt always work smoothly and it got a little frustrating so I dumped it. Its been at least a couple weeks and I don't even notice a difference. So that was my j.d. experience. Never tried the other one

DCSwitch is a great way to turn off background data and I've notice HUGE improvements in battery life when the data is off.

Do you use battery saver apps?

Hello everybody
I would like to know from you if battery saver apps are usefull or just useless.
I am using right now super power and i think it could save some energy but it is also quite annonying for example to wait for the band switch.
It is worth to to deal with this apps or you doesnt care about the energy you loose and enjoy to have no troubles with such apps.
Just out of curiosity which battery saver app you use when you use one?
Greetz xnoobx
I use Juice Defender Ultimate and find it to extend the battery life a whole lot.
What it does is automaticly turn off data comunications when the screen goes off. It then turns data back on once every houre to let the phone check email and stuff like that.
You can customise almost everything. I really like it and would recommend it to anyone.
Xeno
Since I started using Green Power Premium, I find my phone on when I wake up in the morning
I too use juice defender, at this moment tells me my battery life has increased by x1.87
what that translates to in a percentage i dont know but hey !!! it saved some juice.
all these apps do is just make it quicker and easier to toggle things on/off, you could do it yourself but why waste time when the app does it for ya ???
some may argue that the app is constantly running in the background therefore its hogging battery, but too be honest, all you can do is try and see for yourself.
BUT !! i would recommend them to any one, Mainly Juice defender and some sort of toggle widget. hand in hand they work well
No battery savings app here.
If you prefer battery life over fancy looking screens (like myself), just get rid of all the constantly updating widgets and crap like that.
I managed to stretch my battery life to a consistent 48 hours per full charge. And that's with an average of 2,5 hours display on and a lot of listening to PowerAMP.
I just removed bloatware with titanium backup, set my wifi to sleep when the screen goes off, and lastly use setcpu app to downclock with certain profiles. I get excellent battery life now.

[Q] Best App to extend battery life?

What you think about this, you use some app that close automatically services or not?
It's senseless to use such apps because Android does it by itself. Further it uses more energy and your battery will be low much faster.

Self management. Close apps and services when you are not using them. Such apps that supposedly better manage your battery usage are a drain themselves.
Agree with Liam really .
Big battery drain is constant WIFi searching .

totally true !!!
Any app uses more battery than it is able to save...
There are exceptions to that such as SetCPU or Green Power Premium / JuiceDefender as they do reduce battery consumption, albeit at a cost to functionality / performance.

But I don't think that is the point. We want maximum performance with minimum battery drain
The theme of the original question was app to extend battery life / automatically kill tasks. Utilities such as Advanced Task Killer / SetCPU / Green Power Premium and JuiceDefender spring to mind. It's true of course that Android to a certain point does this itself, but arguably these apps do it better. You cannot have a phone continually running at maximum performance without maximum battery drain.
You have to make a compromise.
Green power and juice defender are the only ones that spring to my mind.

Using Gingerbread without any app killer I get a pretty food battery life (more than 2 days). So I really don't feel the need to use one.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
OK trying green power and juice defender I used adv task killer but IMHO has battery drain
I have been using Juice Defender with great success, I am using ultimate version which allows you set when and where to use you wifi/3g/2g etc, with a busy schedule you don't really have time to think about turning things on and off.
I set my evening hours (sleep) to turn off 3g and wifi and come back on again during the day 8am for every 1 hr polling.
This saves a huge amount of battery - easily getting 2 days with a full charge. But of course if you are using it for commuting music/videos/browsing - no software is going to help you.
Beautiful now i have installed the app gratis try it and than if satisfied get the ultimate version
As the display is what consumes the largest part of your battery, and as the SGS has an AMOLED display, you should also try
Screen Filter
or
Total screen control
True, display eats most of the "juice" on SGS... About task killers: i suggest having a task killer to kill tasks when you wish (by choosing so) BUT not by themselves. Let the android do that and you'll see it does it better!
Lastly about 2.3.3 roms: the is a know issue with very heavy battery drain on some cases (it will appear as :android OS on battery stats).. That is a bug of 2.3.3 roms appearing after running some application and games (especially the "heavy" ones). Only know fix so far is rebooting (also you may hear about deleting some system apps by i do not recommend it)!
In case of need the combo of Screen protector and Green power helped me reaching the end of the days.
i use advanced task killer by rechild. autokill frequency every half hour, setting crazy, security medium. i defined exceptions for my updating widgets and gmail and thats it. this way android stops loading all sorts of aps in the background after a while so loads of free ram and stunning battery life. saying android itself does a good job is simply wrong, but i hope android will some day.
Juice Defender
For me, Juice Defender increased the life of my battery in half a day. Now I can easily reach 2 days with medium usage.
Before, It was almost impossible to end second day without charge.

[Q] Any battery saving tips?

I turn off: auto-rotation, auto-backup, synchronize, data in the background, gps, disabled fast darmancy, no live wallpaper, auto britnes, at home i turn off mobile data, and when i go out i turn of my notification, im using super task killer to kill all the proces, but my not battery life is obout 18 hours with verry low ussage. Im using latest kingdroid rom with abys 4.2 kernel, when i try to install francos kernel o r speedmode kernel i get problem with screen, just goes off, any tips to save battery live ??
take a look at my post in here:

Short answer: you'll find juicedefender will go a long way to saving your battery.
Some of the things you've set (disabling auto-rotate, using task killers) won't do anything to help your battery life.
As a general rule task killers aren't necessary under android - they may even HURT your battery life. If an app wants to run it will simply restart itself, using cpu cycles to run, then your task killer will kill it, and the cycle repeats itself. If an app is really causing a problem, just uninstall it.

I agree with the second part of the above post, but juice defender will NOT save your battery. In fact it might do just the opposite. Do some forum search and you'll see for yourself.

I can confirm it myself.
Thought I'd jump in to this thread to add that I'm a user of juicedefender ultimate, and, properly set up, it makes a huge difference to my battery. Ymmv I suppose.

[Q] Juice Defender & Kowalski Kernel / CM10

Hello mates,
battery drain is a big issue so i´m looking up different things to save some battery. does someone of you have experience with Juice Defender especially in addition with some configuration like mine (see above, PA & Kowalski) or similar?
I wonder about maybe kowalski kernel and Juice Defender "dont´t like each other" cause both of em change wifi behaviour and things like that.
I´m also thankfull for general meanings about juice defender if you want to tell me
Thanks in advance
(Yes I used search and yes i looked up some comments on playstore )
For how long do you want your battery to last my friend? With PA and Kowalski kernel my phone can last 3 days rofl.
Remember: A smartphone isn't supposed to last more than 24 hours if its being used.
as long as possible
I´m just trying to get some information weather this combination is usefull or not I know this phone can go for up to 3 days but with whatsapp, facebook messenger and some sound stuff the device goes down if you use it - and thats what I do
My question is simple, does it make any sense to use Juice Defender in addition to pa/kowalski and has someone done this before to give some estimation about it? (percentage compare would be nice, otherwise give me what ever you got )
Idle time is very nice on this build, even without juice defender and i think JD can´t do much about battery drain when fiddling around with the phone all the time, right?
Juice Defender only does things while your screen is off. Basically it turns data off then switches it on periodically for data sync. For me it's a noticeable improvement and worth trying if you don't mind your emails coming in a bit later.
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda app-developers app
the key to make sure your battery lasts long is making sure the cpu enters deep sleep if the phone is in standyby.
apps and widgets can and will prevent the cpu from entering it most of the time. so yeah the more stuff you install, the more widgets that require sync you use, will lessen batterytime. uninstall stuff you don't really need and you will be fine.
you can also use a tool such as cpuspy - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bvalosek.cpuspy - to check how much time the cpu spends in each state.
It is also important to know what is causing the phone to wake up to check betterbatterystats app. Partial Wakelock and Alarms section, you can see what causes the phone to wake up hence using more batteruy.

No it doesn't. JD and kowalski are not compatible. I tried to use JD and wierd stuff started to happen. If you are on the latest [email protected] kernel, reduce the wifi transmission power to a level that suits you and try enabling PSP mode (see if it works with your modem).
juice defender is very useless!
i used JD over 1 month. it is really useless, my battery power was the same
I use it to:
-turn 3g off when connected to wifi
-turn off wifi when not connected to any network and turn it on automatically based on location
if you have problems with your battery, try to change the router if you can. I have a router that even if the mobile's mode is PSP, CAM, or otherwise, my battery runs out in less than 8 hours. Using another router, the battery life is about 50 hours with the same usage and programs.
You could also go for a better battery from a third party manufacturer. (Higher mAh-rating).
Personally, I don't use JD anymore. It proved incompatible to most of the roms I use.
