I have an NC, rooted with autonooter, and everything seems to be working ok, but on lots(most) app's dialogs, including the nook popup UI, I will get get white on white text.
Has anyone else seen this or have a fix? It makes several apps a guessing guessing game and checkboxes have no descriptions so I haven't been able to check any of them.
Thanks!
i have the same problem!
me too! * Hoping for a quick fix!*
So, if its not a unique issue, are there people who have working rooted nooks that don't have the issue? I'm assuming that stock/unrooted NC's don't have the issue so is this some setting that needs tweaking when we open up the rest of the android OS?

I assumed it was an issue with the rooting process.
Im having the same problem with the long-press pop-up menu in xScope. I had to use trial and error to memorize the location of each option.
Sent from my Nooted friend...
What applications are you seeing this in? I haven't noticed white on white text.
I have noticed that Tasker's action tab has light blue on dark blue that's really hard to read. I think that's the only one I've seen
How do you add a bookmark in xscope? Thanks
I've had this problem with the pop-up windows in XScope and RedditIsFun, although I feel like it must have happened at other times as well. It's always in a pop-up window.
I find the ADW settings screen very hard to read. It's white text on almost white background & I first thought that they were grayed out. Very annoying!
Cheers,
kev
I had it too. I saw it first in an email widget I got off the Market - de.invalidobject.mailwidget or something like that. White on white text on a popup.
Yes. Same here. It is very annoying to see Table of Content with white fonts on white background with my ezPDF Reader. And many pop up screens too.
I feel like the reason for this is because the apps are using the sam sort of theme that the books settings page uses.
The apps are set to be white on black but the book is set to be black on white so they get mixed up.
Sorry if that doesn't make sense it is rather late here.
Sent from my NOOKcolor using the xda app
I found this to be the case in the game Alchemy if you try to get info on items you've created. The popup shows hyperlinks in blue but all other text is white on white and unreadable.

I seriously doubt this has anything to do with the nooting, vs just that the default text color is not appropriate for normal Android apps.
I suspect someone can find the way to fix it eventually.
it happens in lots of places
here are some screenshots of what i'm seeing, it seems to be system wide.
No text visible next to the checkbox for what I assume is something like 'set default'

In file manager context menu
and here is an example where you can almost see the white text on a settings page
It makes things kind of a guessing game, with possible bad consequences if you choose the wrong option
So, is there a way (setting/app/etc) to change the theme or text color globally or such?
thx!
What I do is I highlight an option which changes the background color of the item but I don't release so I can read what it is, bad part is I have to do it for all menus until I get used to which blank spot I can click. Hopefully we can get this fixed

Good workaround... I've been also having to use my phone as reference for apps that I use on both such as Tasker.
Such a pain in the arse, but I know help is around the corner. Someone out there with the knowhow is going to change the xml settings for font color soon and share with the rest of us.

I am hoping eventually we will have all kinds of custom themes and then all the menus will be black background like in typical android.

Of course it's totally undoable, since i've put the Default Theme of WM06. you can simply import it when u'll get tired of a black theme.

Yes, the default theme is included in the zip as well.
Thanks Nadavi. This is really cool.
P.S. Be sure to export your current theme before using this. The default theme that was included was not the one that was on my Tilt.
verry nice!

Nice App, the theme needs a little tweaking thou. The highlighted tabs under SYSTEM, are the same color as the text.

cant read the system messages.. that kinda sucks. thanks anyways.
I love the black theme! It looks awesome. However, some things are now unreadable. On my Tilt, my inbox is washed out, the message headers for text messages are gray on gray, editing outlook contacts is black on black, and highlighted tabs (as mentioned in a previous post) are white on white. Then there are other little problems like the dropdown arrow for select boxes being black on black. That's all I found before I switched back to my original colors.
It's probably a matter of tweaking the individual colors, but that's tough if you're not sure what does what because you have to soft reset to see what changed.
Does anyone have a black theme that is tweaked so that everything is legible? If you could export it and post it, I'd love to get my hands on that.
Nadavi, I'm tweaking your black theme to be HTC default gray, but I need a little help. What component controls the color of the selected tabs in the setting module? The text color is white and the tab is white. Thanks for your help.

Hi guys, you can always download the most current version of UI Tweaker from my site. Glad to see the interest here...it's motivating me to work on the next minor update (WVGA and VGA support) soon. Also got some bugs to fix in TdyScheme Changer.
P.S: If anybody have some nice themes exported from any of the "sub-programs" in UI Tweaker and wish to share with the rest, you can send me an e-mail and I can probably post the files you exported from the applications on my site (of course with credits).

Hi all,
I saw the winmo 7 video other day in youtube. It looks great but it was like a dejavu for me. I have sony erricsson Xperia X1, in that we have a panel called Media experience, it is more or less the same as new winmo interface. (for those who haven't seen it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEQt8tGUuYg )
The only differences are that instead of txt showing you where you are (each time you get in a folder the name of the txt goes on top, that way you know where you are) in Media experience it shows you an icon

notice the icon on the right ( music icon) indicates that you are in music player. Oh yeah and unlike winmo7 it is in the left side. The thing that this is missing is the clock on the background (i photoshoped it) and the weather widget.
HTC UI is great but it also slows down the phone, that's why I prefer titanium. I was wondering if somebody could figure out a way to put a clock and weather widget with it. Some other pics,
That theme concept looks gorgeous. It's a brilliantly huge improvement over the default Titanium. However, it reminds me of the SE media manager. But nevermind that.
The clock on the top right corner looks ugly - it's doesn't blend well within the theme. I suggest that a plain text clock in the background should be implemented to give the theme a minimalistic and elegant look. I've worked up on the image to show you what I mean.
The menus should also have some transparency so the background and the clock are visible.
i think it's better the clock on the background but the icon only the bigger at the center end take away the little one at the left!
d3thstalker your picture looks exactly what I was thinking. I did a quick paintbrush work so it looks awefool. But yeah this is what I was talking about, how though
It would be really awesome if someone could develop this for us. I have no background in developing anything or whatsoever. However, I'd like to extend my help to wherever I can.
EDIT: Perhaps if someone could post links to guides or tutorials on editing the Titanium menu, I can try something.

It doesn't look that difficult, it's worth a try. But you are reminded again that I have no background in these things or whatsoever, so don't get your hopes too high, I might simply dump the project if I can't do it.
I'm handling some workload from my office atm, I'll begin immediately after that. I'll flash my phone to WM6.5.3 today, however, to take a look at how this whole thing works. On second thought, it would be better if someone could pass me the following files from the WINDOWS directory on their phone - bronzeres.dll, CHome_listback.png (hidden file) and Titanium_240x320.cpr

Ok I just sent it to you. I looked at the tutorial too, when I opened the bronzess.dll in PE explorer I see lots of icons, starting with the number of 2000 to 4000. I can guess how to change the icons, but I dont understand how can I change the system of how icons are being shown. I mean in "Media Experience Panel" when you tap on something it goes to the left side. How do make that happen? Anyway I dont know anything about programming.
Hope somebody comes up with a solution.
I understand the link between the registery, the bronzeres.dll and the way the icon are displayed. However, I still don't understand how to shift the icons to the left side. I think that has something to do with Titanium_240x320.cpr.
I don't think that it's possible to make the icons shift to the left upon clicking them because I have never seen that in a theme. I think that would require the Titanium code to be re-written or something, which is beyond me.
EDIT: This modding of titanium is too hard for me, I don't understand several aspects of it. I am letting go of it here.
Ok I think I figured it out. Its not Titanium that can do this stuff. It is actually this

which probably can do this. Hmmmm............ I guess I have to do this all by myself

This was created for the Vibrant, but I see no reason why it would not be compatible with the Captivate. Enjoy.
This Metamorph will remove the colored tiles from the TouchWiz3.0 app menu. Make sure you are using the latest version of Metamorph (1.9.13 or higher). I'm not responsible for anything you do to your phone.

If you're talking about the widgets. Just drag them to the trash and re-apply them if you get the "Problem loading Widget" box.

I guess I am doing something wrong. I thought that was part of the process because I loaded the zip in morph and my backgrounds didn't change. I didn't see the apply all button. It is all good. I guess I am used to things loading after clicking the one button. Still new to android lol.
This is exactly what I was looking for, but I can't get it to work with metamorph. The error is the following:
"The theme you selected is invalid because the theme control file could be missing, or is not correctly written (contact theme creator)."
My metamorph version 1.9.8.14
Select "Pick existing theme" navigate to the EVO_Blackbar folder (Should be in /sdcard/AndroidThemes/ and select EVO_Blackbar_v1.3.xml. It should work. If you downloaded it from your phone, the names get messed up and cause that problem.
Is there any way to add the backgrounds to another launcher? Like Launcher Pro or ADW or something?
I love the uniformity and the aesthetics of the nice uniform grid.
There are still some stock apps with tiles behind them. Is it possible to remove those as well?

OO I like this theme, may have to try it out when I get home. I'm one of the few people who actually likes touchwiz, makes it feel more familiar (I came from an iphone 3gs)
Not trying to thread jack or anything but I see everyone including major reviews complaining about touchwiz. Whats so bad and different about it compared to stock android. What are somethings you would recommend I changed to stock for?
I know our menu system is slide right or list instead of pull up.
(I like it better that way cause you can customize it)
We have the 3 customizable of 4 buttons on the bottom of the screen.
(Better use of real estate)
Our system and menu is black with white highlight but doesn't it make more sense considering the display and black using less battery.
(saves battery/ I modded my whole system to black menus pull downs and such)
And finally the backgrounds on Icons.
(At least its uniform, have you seen some of the ugly Icons people make)
Froyo compatibility
For what it's worth, I morphed this over Cognition 2.2 beta 5.5 and it seems to have worked just fine. I'm not sure if anything else has changed, but I've gotten rid of those ugly tiles I imagine it would work for any of the JI6 ROMs....
Installed on stock JH7, works just fine.

Bug report: the pop-up letters on the keyboard don't show. They are the same white as the pop-up background. Dtachd says it probably and xml edit somewhere, or you could change the pop-up background color
Where does one acquire that background? I love it.

Thanks brother.
If you wanted to add an accurate battery mod to this, I just did the images for it in Photoshop the other day. They have the exact AOSP style, so no number in the image, but it's accurate down to the pixel (so there's a change every 3 or 4 percent). You can use it if you want.
Note: Not a flashable zip, just a regular zip with images in them.
A numbered battery % would be great

Nice theme Is there anyway to get rid of the new GPS icon that comes with DJ05? Only thing that looks out of place in the theme, and it's annoying to have an extra icon in the notification bar that is useless.

Something else I noticed was that I could not do voice search by long pressing the search soft key. I just installed sonofskywalker's rom and out worked all the way to loading this theme.
PerfectViewer is a reader application for image-based files such as CBR and CBZ and, with the proper plugin, PDF. It works well on the NSTG (best in low-memory mode) but is plagued by a lot of invisible text in the Preferences screens and many dialog boxes. Also, the PDF plugin that is supposed to work with the version that runs best on the device always crashes.
I recently came by a slew of CBZ files that I wanted to look over and decided to dust off this old app and then I remembered all of the above. I decided to try and fix some of the issues. Along the way I discovered a version of the PDF plugin that actually does work with the app, further extending its capabilities.
What I did
1. Essentially I forced all text to black. This solved a lot of problems in itself, with only a few layout files requiring minor edits. One unanticipated side-effect was to make the window title text also black (it was white on a grey background). But this is the only artifact of this kind and I feel it is a small price to pay. The text (which you probably never look at anyway) is still quite readable, although it would look better white. Couldn't fix it. There are issues with the framework-res.apk. To decompile and compile the app without errors requires a KitKat framework. Obviously there are going to be issues when that app runs on an Eclair device. So I did the best I could.

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. Next I tried to change all the white text on black backgrounds to the opposite. I succeeded in all but one case where the ListView used was impervious to my persuasions, that is in the setup for the quick bar menu. I could see the two ListViews in one smali file and could also see where text might be set but could not figure out how to force the text color to black.
3. Speaking of the quick bar, while using the app I kept squinting at the icons there. It seemed to me the background color was too dark for many of the icon options. So I lightened that.
4. I resized the Quick Setup and Adjust Color windows so they display properly on the NSTG.
5. I increased the maximum zoom to 100%. I sometimes found myself tapping the screen multiple times with the maximum setting of 20%. You can still set it to 5% or 15% or whatever, but the slider is just a bit more touchy with the larger range.
6. I removed Shelf Style #5 (the ugliest of an unattractive set, IMO), and created a new solid color shelf (now #1) and renumbered the rest. (looks best with dark grey or black text and no text effect)
A PDF reader?
So, what's the PDF plugin like? Well, PerfectViewer is a page-centered reader. That does not change with the PDF plugin. There is no re-flow option. A regular book in PDF format is really only readable in landscape mode. Otherwise the font is too small and/or you are panning all over an enlarged page. The landscape option is actually pretty normal for reading PDF text on the NST (unless you have really good eyes). What PerfectViewer lacks is the ability to smoothly scroll across pages like, for example, EBookDroid. Instead you move in chunks of the page (adjustable). Also, NoRefresh has issues with PerfectViewer in landscape mode. Not sure why. One good thing is that you can adjust the text contrast (gamma, under AdjustColor) to achieve something like the great contrast found in the @nivieru version of EBookDroid. And while EBookDroid renders pages rather slowly so that you sometimes scroll to a blank page and then wait, PerfectViewer renders much faster. So there are trade-offs.
Installation
Unfortunately if you are currently using PerfectViewer you will have to uninstall it since the MOD has a different signature. You can save your Preferences (Preferences Management, then tap the bottom blank "button") since uninstalling PerfectViewer does not delete the folder on the sdcard. Then you can read those Preferences back in once the MOD is installed. I have to say that I was less than impressed with this. It seemed to ignore quite a few settings I had made, so I'm just warning you. At least you'll be able to see what you're doing! There's no interface for the PDF plugin. It just makes the app work with PDF files.
