I apologize in advance if this issue has been addressed in another thread. Searching for such a thread has been a pain in the butt though for the following reasons.
A couple months ago I dropped my phone in water with the micro usb port open. The port can still be used to charge the phone but when I try to plug it into a computer, it shows up as a malfunctioning usb device. Also, the screen is constantly a shade of green and has lines going across it.
This by itself isn't so much a problem because none of the water indicators turned red, thank God. BUT, my phone is rooted. This means no warranty replacement for me unless I can return it to stock. I have an 8 GB external SD card and was wondering if I can return my phone to stock without using a computer? I would appreciate any help with this.
Edit: I meant WITHOUT using a computer..since the usb port is fried :/

Use the "One Click Root" to unroot the phone, and return it to stock. To my knowledge, it's not like HTC where it modifies a bootloader or anything, just Custom ROM.
so the phone actually boots and you just want to get rid of root?
download the one-click application on rooting, take the "unroot.zip" and rename it to "update.zip" and either dropbox it over or put it on your external sd card through your computer directly. now use an application (like my files) and remove the old update.zip (if there is one) and add the unroot zip so it's /sdcard/update.zip
reboot into recovery, reinstall packages, tada you are unrooted.

i hate to burst your bubble, but the water indicators are merely there for quick reference for on-the-phone techs. normally when you send the phone in, they actually check it, and will probably see what resembles water damage inside.
now, talked to guys at many carriers. some check more than the indicators, some don't. its really luck of the draw. be careful. thats why i have insurance. $50 and i get a new one

OK well i was installing Darkys latest rom. I was at the point where i was in
download mode and odin. While odin was loading files the usb slipped out of the
phone because nothing besides the stock usb cord happens to stay firmly in the
charging port on this phone. This is the 2nd time this happed but when it
happened this time my phone just stopped working and by stop working i mean i
get absolutely no picture on the screen. nothing happens when its plugged into
power cord or usb cord. nothing. tried holding all 3 buttons in tons of times and
nothing.
Im out of warranty and got no insurance. I did get att to give me 180 credit cuz
i threatened to cancel. so if i cant fix this im gonna use a crappy prepaid phone
for the time being. If the SGS2 doesnt come out by march then ill probably get
an axtrix even tho i would rather get SGS2.
So please does anyone know of anything i can try?? i'm probably gonna goto an att store and try a new battery. Any suggestions would be appreciated???
You tried pulling everything, plug in usb, hold rocker, put back in batt? My understanding is, if you have the bad luck of that cable coming out while loading the boot loader then you r indeed SOL.

Double spacing isn't necessary. We aren't going to grade your post.
You hopefully now understand that flashing to stock isn't the way to avoid problems; it's the way to create big ones.
Try removing the battery, wait a couple of minutes, plug in USB, hold volume up+down, while holding up+down insert the battery and see if that gets you back into download mode.

I tried all that. Ive probably flashed every single rom in the development section of the forum.
If it gets unplugged while doing an update then usually it displays the phone..!..computer picture and you can still get into download mode from there. I'm getting nothing tho.
the reason i think it could be the battery is because it may have been pretty close to dying which is stupid for flashing when it was close to dead but i wanted to hurry up because i had to leave the house. i'm wondering if since the software on there now is corrupt would that make the phone unable to charge. thats why i want to try a new battery

I don't think a jig will help. Usually it is used when your buttons never worked.... but hey... only a couple bucks vs the cost of a new phone.

yeah i know my buttons work, i just cant get my phone to turn on at all. also tried multiple chargers and usb cables. I think i'm screwed. im hoping someone on here heard of this problem before but ive never read anything about it on here before.
Using a POS phone till the SGS2 comes out is gonna suck
anyone know anything?
I will be trying another battery today.
Besides a jig, I have nothing else for you sorry.
But on a different spectrum, if you do get a new phone, dont get the atrix, it is the worst phone out of all the phones coming out on att. Get the inspire our the infuse if you dont want to hold a dinner plate to your head.

phone needs to be able to power on for a jig to work.
how are you out of warranty? (besides the custom rom) the phone has a 1 year warranty and it is not been on the market that long.
if the phone *happened* to be *dammaged* in a way that they would never notice AND would NEVER be able to read the memory (with out spending thousands of dollars), THEY WOULD NEVER KNOW you flashed custom rom and voided your warranty. they would try to test it, nope, broken, NEXT...
and SGS2 expected in june

yeah your right i still am in warranty but 2 weeks after i got the phone i dropped it and the screen cracked but the cracks not that bad. So i cant warranty the device because the crack. I did get att to give me $180 credit on my bill. $30 of every 6 month.
Ive heard the international version of the SGS2 will be out long before the att version will be. So i might use my upgrade on an iphone 4 and then sell it and buy the international SGS2.
what do you guys think about that idea?

In a nutshell... I rooted with superoneclick...Verizon update un-rooted me...can't re-root. Tried using LGNPST to flash stock rom... initially found phone and all was well but got error- can't find USB in dload mode. Phone stuck on -do not remove cable- screen... I had to pull battery. Now my USB port is not working at all (No Icon... tried drivers, cables, 4 different computers, have a second revolution is recognized quickly) whereas before this it was intermittent and I would get it (USB) back after several battery pulls and reboots.
I would like to bring this phone in to have it checked out but since I'm not rooted I can't get rid of the files associated with the original root (such as superuser). I did a factory reset hoping to get USB back and/or get rid of these files to no avail.
I must add I am super new at all this... I've read a lot on the forums but I don't know what I am doing. I didn't install Rom's or do any flashes. Just Wifi Tether, and titanium backup. Which means I also don't have clockwork (I literally just rooted a day or two before update)
Can anyone get me out of this MESS?? I just want to clean up my phone to bring it in for service/exchange but fear they will realize that I rooted.
Please!!! And Thank You for all the great work you do here
Check your cable I had same problem when I used a usb not supplied by verizon. The retailler will do a swap they do not have the time or expertise to check for a root or rom change. Water damage is all they look for. I used to manage a vzn reseller.
So is the phone working or no? It sounds like either it works or that it is stuck in a download screen.
Many cables tried
Thanks for the response... But we have 3 LG phones in the house, 2 Revolutions and a Optimus. I tried all 3 (LG Branded) cables on my phone, which didn't work...but did on the other 2 phones. I think since the other revolution connects easily with a cable to the computer that it is probably not a cable or a driver issue. I may be wrong, but it seems to make sense???
Also, The phone works fine other than there being no USB communication. Thanks for asking...
I fairly new to this as well but I have a thought. If you still have superuser try to use ti to remove the apps you installed and then remove superuser. ti can be uninstalled from the market. No promises if this will work but it is a thought. Hope it helps.
Remove superuser
Can you remove superuser from the market?? If so, I need instructions please.
Try to use Titanium backup which you got from the market to uninstall anything not from the market and then uninstall that. That should get you squared away. I hope...
That's all they look at in the store but they then send the phone to Verizon and if Verizon sees that it was rooted they will send you a bill for full retail of the replacement phone you were given. (Seen it happen many time)

O wow thats a lot. I've done it once on accident and got away with it as well. I shouldn't have said seen many times as I've only seen it happen once but have heard stories online. I guess it just depends which employee looks at it. When u root your phone your warranty is voided so if u recieve a warranty replacement and they see your phone was rooted then u are not entitled to the replacement so they ask for it back or say pay up.

Warranty voided by rooting ?
I am a little concerned about the report of a users phone root voiding a replacement. Think about it for a minute, Android is open source and freedom to write apps is encouraged by all manufact. When you root a phone, the software is not illegal Google market sells root apps for other phones. Do you think the manufacturers would allow the official marketplace to sell apps that could void warranties? BS, this sounds like Sony's attempt to deny PS3 owners replacements after their required sys updates would brick their consoles. I had a buddy whose console froze up and he had to get an attorney to file a complaint before they would warranty it. If that happened to me I would file with the BBB or protest loudly at VZN.
It's not rooted and doesn't have anything on it. Pretty much stock. Sent a text msg this morning and checked my email from it. Came back to it abt 20 minutes later and it won't even turn on. Tried charging it. Won't turn on. Tried swapping with my regular battery (which was fully charged when I put it away. It could be dead by now.). Nothing. Tried removing the battery, waiting, replacing the battery. Nothing. I did briefly get the M Dual Core icon and then all went blank.
Suggestions?

I second this.
Without going through the pain of returning it, would you be able to connect it to your computer, and reflash the (is it TRZ?) file through the new RSD Lite through the stock bootloader? Definitely worth a try.

Thanks, all.. Hauled my cookies 30 minutes over to Verizon. The sales rep assumed I hadn't bothered to charge my phone. When he realized it wasn't the battery, he was extremely helpful and replaced the phone on the spot. He said he'd never seen that before and with a phone less than 1 month old, I shouldn't have those kinds of issues. Kudos to Verizon for a pleasant experience. I've had some bad experiences in the past, but this gentleman was helpful and didn't try to sell me any accessories! ;p (They always try to sell me something when I'm there.)

This is referencing what one would do if the software had an issue, if it does this will fix it but kinda sounds like hardware. I have returned my Bionic to stock twice its fairly easy, computer does almost everything. Here is this to get you going if you wanna do it.

Just remember, phone has to be in fastboot mode to be detected by RSD Lite and once its detected and the file starts flashing, if it seems like its not making progress while saying otherwise, dont unplug it just wait

One would need the ability to turn the phone on in the first place for this to be attempted. That's why no one was mentioning the FXZ.
The phone booted to the dual core M logo, which with myself that happens to be as far as mine would go when i successfully flashed my FXZ. The phone needs to boot to the fastboot screen which can be done on many occasions that the phone can get to the first logo, as long as there is battery left.
....
But congrats on the new replacement i just saw that after i posted

It hasn't happened to me but I have to pull the battery on my wifes Bionic at least once a week and twice in one day. It would just go away suddenly and act like it was dead. I may return it for a replacement.
if anyone has exchanged their Bionic for a replacement because of the BSOD defect, will you please provide feedback in this thread? thanks
hi all:
just bought a bionic off ebay for cheap ($20 + free ship) but it has problems
it was being sold as "battery with water damage but phone is not but wont power on"
he said one night he left it in his drawer and when he woke up it didn't work anymore he tried removing battery and all that.
to my understanding the battery was previously water damaged and he could still use it and then got the wont power on later on.
anyhow to my question
the phone comes today with just the phone, water damaged battery and wall charger.
should I cut the end off the charger and do the wires to the battery and insert battery into phone and plug usb cord from laptop to the phone?
isn't this the correct way for bsod and a non water damaged battery?
is there anyway to test the waterdamaged battery to see if it could still be good?
I have a multimeter
I hope I am not duplicating a thread, the XDA search function appears to be down at the moment. Last night I put my phone on the charger (OEM HTC charger); the battery was low, but the phone was still on, and it appeared to be charging. When I woke up this morning (late, since my phone acts as my alarm), my phone was turned off. Now I am unable to turn on the phone at all, and there is no orange charging LED. Unfortunately I don't have the money for a warranty exchange/replacement/repair (and probably won't for a while), so I will be without a mobile until this gets resolved. Please help, you guys are my only hope.
Steps I have tried:
Leaving the phone plugged in for a long while.
Holding vol up and power for several minutes.
Holding vol down and power for several minutes.
Holding vol up and down and power for several minutes.
Plugging it into a computer.
Using several different chargers.
Removing my SIM card, and trying all of the above again.

Unfortunately that doesn't appear to work for me. When you had to do this, was your device completely dead like mine, or were you able to see the orange charging light?
Just 2 days ago mine did nearly the same thing. It just seemed to run out of battery REALLY fast and wouldn't charge again until it completely ran out of battery. And then it wouldn't charge properly with any chargers, the led was flickering , cutting out then staying on for a few seconds etc. I left it overnight plugged in and it charged it finally me, but now my phone is going crazy.(270 rotation even when it's rotation locked, not recognising headphones or USB connection and more.) Maybe we both have faulty motherboards? I'm pretty sure mine isn't a software problem after numerous factory resets. I know this isn't really helpful but we're having a similar problem so if someone can help, this info could be useful? I just emailed HTC but I'm bootloader unlocked and running ARHD som I'm not that optimistic. They might try to blame that, even though I know it's not the problem.
Disappointing after 3 months of love and tender care that something like this goes wrong.
Um there might be 2 possibilityes:
1. Your phone is hard bricked (google it if you don't understand), witch may be caused by bootloader malfuncion while your phone was shutting diwn, in case that something might got corrupted
2. Hardware faliure. You might have something burned on your pcb, or you might have a dead battery

When I plug the phone into my PC, it now installs drivers for "qualcomm hs-usb qdloader 9008"; does this indicate a hard-brick? If so, I read somewhere else that if I used JTAG, I could potentially fix the phone. Is this a program that can be downloaded? If it helps, I do have one of SkOrPn's cables that I used a while ago to fix my Kindle Fire. T-Mobile is saying they won't do anything because the camera lens on the back has a small crack in it, even though they admit that it is unrelated to the issue at hand.

Thanks for the reply. I see that the tool they posted is for the AT&T Galaxy Note. Will this tool still work for the HTC One? I've got Linux machines available to use the tool if it will.
I had the phone for one month and it stopped charging. TMobile gave me a second charger at the store two weeks in since that's when it started. One month and a day after getting the phone it completely stopped charging. You had to rotate the cables in weird positions to get a charge. I think it's the USB connector on the phone or the battery. The store is mailing me a replacement for $20. IM using my backup S2 till then. I was rooted on Revolution the entire time. Suffice to say I think it's important to delicately remove the cable after charging. IM angry about this since I've had zero issues with my Samsung devices and thought I'd try the One.

I see, thanks for the help. Yeah I'm not very happy with T-Mobile right now. Basically, they won't even handle the repair/replacement because there is a small crack on the camera lens; I've spoken with two different representatives at T-Mobile who gave the same response. What's worse is that they admitted that it is obvious the cracked lens is completely unrelated to the fact that the phone won't boot. My next path is to interface directly with HTC to get it fixed, which is of course going to cost more money. If I at least had better coverage where I live and work, it might be a different story, but so far I've had nothing but bad luck with them. Once I can get out of this mess, I'll probably switch back to Verizon, and maybe give their Edge program a try. Sorry about the rant, but this is just getting silly.
:silly:
I flashed Android N Preview as a secondary ROM using MultiROM, everything worked perfectly, no issues what so ever.
After a day when I was listening to music using Spotify the phone suddenly switched of abruptly with battery over 90%
Since then I couldn't able to switch on the phone again.
No bootloader, no Recovery, Its not booting at all. No response from the phone.
I think it is dead.
Changed the Battery to new one.
Not worked. No sign of anything.
When I plugged in the charger the LED light is on, but I don't think its charging phone is not warm while it is plugged in.
In fact it felt like so chill.
So, I don't know how to recover my phone.
BTW, the phone's bootloader unlocked, rooted stock ROM as the primary one.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks guys.
Did you try to press the power button for 15-20 seconds? That's a weird problem.
The same happened to me.,and my phone is stock and locked. Its bricked. Nothing we tried helped

the back plastic sheet is held on with adhesive, I would apply heat first then work it open with a tool like isesamo or maybe a thin credit card or guitar pick. underneath there are 20 torx iirc can't remember size and another plastic shell with many holes in it. this cover, the wireless charging coil, and battery are adhered together i think and there are two small rubber covers for the power button (top) and battery (bottom). remember to disconnect your ribbon cables and treat them carefully.
the real problem imo lies in reassembly. i have repaired many and never feel they are the same as they came from the factory mostly because the back cover doesn’t re-adhere well. invest in some quality 3m adhesive, even a pre cut if you can manage.
Yeah done everything I have in my power nothing works.
Asked service center to check they said the phone is dead.
To get it repaired it will cost 3500 for me, they said.
Damn it.
Don't know what to do.
Now they said that the motherboard is dead, I need to change it inorder to get it work again.
Is it possible like this kind of problem occurs?
I was in Android N listening to Spotify
Putting a pre release OS on a phone, especially using a hack like multi rom, was indeed a recipe for disaster..
I'm certain that your partitions somehow got corrupted, and that results in a un bootable phone
Hopefully, someone reading this thread, who is thinking about doing something suicidal like that will learn from your mistake, but your phone is toast, unless you can get it J-Tagged, which might not even be available for your N6
I've heard the term j-tag a lot before. What does that mean

My phone is officially dead. Service center said that the motherboard is weak and is impossible to repair and only fix is to replace the whole motherboard to a newer one. That would cost me a lot like i could get a new for it and they even suggested me to exchange this phone to a newer one.
And now i got Nexus 6P and I love it so much.
But God i really miss my Nexus 6.
Thanks for the help and suggestion here.
Long live xda.
I couldn't resist to unlock bootloader. Flash multirom and stock root and xposed.
That's the heaven, i can't live without.
I have done it all after i opened the 6P from its box. Lol.
May be i am fastest one to do it.
Thanks xda and friends from it.
