Hi,
I have used Visionary to first temp root and then perm root and apps such as Screen shot, Titanium backup, Auto killer memory etc which need root work fine but I just can not get Adfree to take those annoying adverts away and was hoping someone here that has successfully got Adfree working properly on the DHD could help?
I have updated the host files in Adfree but it just wont work, any help would be greatly appreciated to get Adfree working.
Thanks
Well it works for me after updating the host list, strange
All I have done is used Visionary to temp root and then perm root and updated the host files in Adfree, but Ads still show.
I haven't gone any further with any of the other modifications like S-OFF or anything else like that. Do you need to?

My DHD is brand new, only had it a couple days so I am just using it as it is without any ROMS. Heres the software version etc pictured, I don't know if this is a version where Adfree currently doesnt work or other people have the same software and Adfree works?
You have to set s-off. The flash memory is locked and any changes to system files (adfree needs to make some) are not persistent if you are s-on. S-off is the same as unlocking the flash memory.

Either radio s-off our hboot s-off will do but radio is safer and you won't loose it if you do something stupid like accepting an official update.

Thank you! For anyone looking to work on a new rom, this will be very useful! (Or those of us who want back a specific bit for Eclipse, like motorola's clock app.)

no i removed it
Awesome thanks
can this only be flashed to the safe partition or could you use like cwm to flash it as the main rom?
my thinking is if you temp rooted to get recovery installed, booted straight into recovery,
flashed the rom with qe removed you would not have to worry about being caught by qe.
It should be flashed to the safe system. After all, the whole idea of using a safe system is to keep the original intact in case you need to take the phone back.
can I get a live link with this?
none of the links above are
working.
I am stuck at the SIM required screen. I edited build.prop to read keyguard.no_require_sim = false and indeed i get a lock screen but when i get out of it i get the welcome.. screen and though i added ro.setupwizard.enable_bypass=1 I can't get out of the screen. Tried Droid4HD lite too, same.
I do a little mod, for this people what dont like moto_blur, icons in system now look like below
to do this you must change your Settings.apk (in system/app/ folder ) with this from link

Hi,
I'm trying to restore a backup of my apps, along with their data, to my new htc one but have hit a problem. The one is not rooted so titanium is not an option and mybackup seems to be unable to restore my apps data.
I've only just got the one and am a bit reticent to root at this early stage in case it bricks.
Are there any solutions to migrate my app data (from a desire on cm7 btw, so helium not an option either).
Can't believe such a simple thing is proving so difficult!

As far as I know root access is required for what you are trying to do. It will be fairly impossible to brick a HTC through rooting it as you have s-on (basically you can't write to any partitions that could brick a phone with s-on). Maybe someone else knows more and there is some app that can do this :fingers-crossed:
Try HTC own transfer app
Settings
Then under personal settings
Select transfer content
This has a range of transfer options specifically intended to copy apps, and other data including photos from your old phone to your HTC one
If your old phone isn't an HTC then you may need HTC transfer app from android play store on your old phone first

Hi,
First of all, I'm quite a noob, so thanks for your consideration.
I just installed the Bulletproof (version 13.0) kernel on my International HTC One, using TWRP Recovery, to disable write protection.
However, write protection is still active, as I can't edit files in the system folder of my phone.
I guess Bulletproof is installed properly, as the 'Sweep2Wake' function is working.
So, my question is: How do I disable this write protection now I'm in a custom kernel?
I am rooted, using Bulletproof kernel and Android Revolution HD 51.0
Thanks in advance,
Sander

1- ARHD 51.0 kernel already has w/p disabled
2- so you didnt need bulletproof, except if you want the added mods
therefore
3- i guess you're trying to use a file explorer (ES maybe) to edit files? not only do you need to enable root access, you also need to "mount" /system as r/w access, eg:

Hey there guys, I'm new to all of these software stuff. I'm trying to get my device simply rooted. I looked everywhere on the forum to see if anyone actually rooted my version of device. Some people say they did it but they didnt post how they got it or the instructions. So if anyone can help me, I would appreciate it. (Also, I don't care too much for roms or customization etc as long everything works perfectly fine. I just need the root in order to use the app called "SixAxis" a mapping for games.)
My device's bootloader is locked im guessing since it's by tmobile, but if there is a root out there, please give me links/exact instructions. I AM A NOOB BTW
Thanks
I currently own a Sony Xperia Z. It's model number is C6606
Android Version is 4.2.2
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-ge32669e
Build number: 10.3.1.E.0.191

Ok nvm, i figured out what you meant by method 0. So i tried it, and the device rebooted and i checked it with the root checker app, and it didnt root. Nothing was installed or anything like that.
Then i attempted to do it again but this time "run it as administrator". Then the root kit said "the system cannot find the path specified"
Any ideas or other ways to root my device?
First, make sure drivers are all installed. USB debugging needs to be on.
Then make sure nothing else like the PC Companion is running before you use the toolkit.
This should work for you.
New to this and just would love some help on rooting my phone.

There is no root method for the GS5 on Lollipop.
so does that mean we can't go to an earlier version and root that?

Thanks, and that's ok but not the best of corse, what I have been able to do because the most important thing for me was/is a GPS app I use and it/was a root only app for storage to the sdext for offline maps. I get a popup now that directs me to another window that has a "hint" to select "0000-xxxx" on the next page, then I can select the sdext for storage and the app uses it (very happy) and it seems to happen for other file transfer tasks. I do not know if the app made this possible or if its just native as this was the first app I installed but it's there in any event. so now when my game files get to big for some other task I wish to do I just move the app data file to the sdext and do whatever and move it back when done. Again not the best but livable as I really like the 5.1.1/OJ3 ROM that's on my G870A, good battery live with quick operation after installing the Pro version of Samsung Package Disabler . I really like this phone! And let's hope this new exploit they found for the Verizon phones turns into something!
I also contacted at&t and stressed how important rooting can be (as for me it's a safety issue as there's bad service in the rural area I'm in) and suggested they might even allow it for an extra fee/no or paid support for doing it. I'm not holding my breath.
Thanks again, now I going to put my KFHD back to 8.1.4 and see if I can get OTG to work as this 870 is all I need for gaming now that I got glasses, I'm an old fart (chronologically)
