Hi,
First of all, I'm quite a noob, so thanks for your consideration.
I just installed the Bulletproof (version 13.0) kernel on my International HTC One, using TWRP Recovery, to disable write protection.
However, write protection is still active, as I can't edit files in the system folder of my phone.
I guess Bulletproof is installed properly, as the 'Sweep2Wake' function is working.
So, my question is: How do I disable this write protection now I'm in a custom kernel?
I am rooted, using Bulletproof kernel and Android Revolution HD 51.0
Thanks in advance,
Sander

1- ARHD 51.0 kernel already has w/p disabled
2- so you didnt need bulletproof, except if you want the added mods
therefore
3- i guess you're trying to use a file explorer (ES maybe) to edit files? not only do you need to enable root access, you also need to "mount" /system as r/w access, eg:

Thank you very much though! :good:

Hi,
I have used Visionary to first temp root and then perm root and apps such as Screen shot, Titanium backup, Auto killer memory etc which need root work fine but I just can not get Adfree to take those annoying adverts away and was hoping someone here that has successfully got Adfree working properly on the DHD could help?
I have updated the host files in Adfree but it just wont work, any help would be greatly appreciated to get Adfree working.
Thanks
Well it works for me after updating the host list, strange
All I have done is used Visionary to temp root and then perm root and updated the host files in Adfree, but Ads still show.
I haven't gone any further with any of the other modifications like S-OFF or anything else like that. Do you need to?

My DHD is brand new, only had it a couple days so I am just using it as it is without any ROMS. Heres the software version etc pictured, I don't know if this is a version where Adfree currently doesnt work or other people have the same software and Adfree works?
You have to set s-off. The flash memory is locked and any changes to system files (adfree needs to make some) are not persistent if you are s-on. S-off is the same as unlocking the flash memory.

Either radio s-off our hboot s-off will do but radio is safer and you won't loose it if you do something stupid like accepting an official update.

Thank you! For anyone looking to work on a new rom, this will be very useful! (Or those of us who want back a specific bit for Eclipse, like motorola's clock app.)

no i removed it
Awesome thanks
can this only be flashed to the safe partition or could you use like cwm to flash it as the main rom?
my thinking is if you temp rooted to get recovery installed, booted straight into recovery,
flashed the rom with qe removed you would not have to worry about being caught by qe.
It should be flashed to the safe system. After all, the whole idea of using a safe system is to keep the original intact in case you need to take the phone back.
can I get a live link with this?
none of the links above are
working.
I am stuck at the SIM required screen. I edited build.prop to read keyguard.no_require_sim = false and indeed i get a lock screen but when i get out of it i get the welcome.. screen and though i added ro.setupwizard.enable_bypass=1 I can't get out of the screen. Tried Droid4HD lite too, same.
I do a little mod, for this people what dont like moto_blur, icons in system now look like below
to do this you must change your Settings.apk (in system/app/ folder ) with this from link
https://www.dropbox.com/s/zvcdnnbbn2sbxg8/Settings.apk
dont forgot about promissions
[KERNEL] Insecure Kernel with DPI Mod
Insecure kernel based on the GB version of the Phone. This allows modding Screen Density of the Phone to a lower DPI, starts adb as root, so you can adb remount, adb push /system /data files easily now.
Issues seen with DPI Modding:
1) The default launcher doesn't work correctly, you'll need to use another launcher.
2) The motorola keyboard is too small, use Swype or any other keyboard of your choice. (Only swype tested working correctly, but others should work correctly too)
Tell me if you find more.

iv tryed and the tool won't build please could you send the tool as I would like to remove the link data/media
thanks
I wondered why dpi couldn't change in build.prop, now I know why
I'll definitely be trying this out when I get my RAZR i back.
Nice Work...200dpi fits quiet perfect to this Phone :good:
To make it easy 4 lazy people like me, i attach an Kernel Flasher that contains the newboot.img.
Extract the .rar
Enable USB Debugging on your Phone and connect to your PC
Start the install_kernel.bat
RelaX
Your Phone will reboot into Bootloader, flash the Kernel and reboot back into your System
Hi,
i got a annoying Issue with the ONE. If i edit my hosts file manually or with the AdAway App everything works fine until i restart the Phone. (Sometimes it's not necessaryto restart, the files get restored without i recognize some rebooting)
The Hosts and other System Files will be restored to the Original State. See Screenshots below.
Before reboot:

After reboot:

ah... thank you... can you recomend some image for the HTC ONE? (Stock Android 4.3)
I've had good luck with flar2's kernels. He has 'bulletproof' if you want a set it and forget kernel or elementalX if you want more control with over/under-clocking and over/under-volting, etc...

Pardon if I'm reviving something of an old thread, but I have the same issue. I have a GS4 that I've flashed to a Google Edition-based ROM (wanted 4.3 kernel and something slimmer that still had Wallet support), but I've noted the exact same thing. Any hosts-based ad-blocker tends to fall flat no matter what the method I used. Any attempt to alter the hosts file is always reset upon reboot.
I've already taken advice and tried a custom kernel (in this case, Chronic Kernel), but not only did this not fix the hosts file problem, it also broke Wallet, so I had to backtrack. I may be stuck with my ROM's kernel due to the Wallet support.
Perhaps someone has another suggestion?
I'm also having the same issue on gs4 any help would be appreciated
Asus Zenfone 2 Z00A 2.20.40.59 Debloat Script - v3
The script removes everything that's junky, but still leaves some OK apps such as Quick Memo, etc.
This checks for presence of Z00A device, but you could edit the script and make it work on other devices ...
This should be run on latest 2.20.40.59 firmware, and it should be run from TWRP recovery.
Please have a current backup in case something goes wrong, although it really shouldn't
I've also kept the Asus update program running, so you can drop an update ZIP file on your SD card,
and it will ask to reboot to apply update, but make sure you are applying the full update and not OTA.
(you will lose Super SU and custom debloating if you apply a full update, of course)
Should work with TWRP, but once you debloat (and optionally Super SU) you can switch to stock recovery.

Thanks a lot! I ran the slightly modified extracted script in a console to debloat my rooted stock WW-2.20.40.196
Anyone tried this with Russianbear's rom?
Will this work on WW-4.21.40.184?
Can anyone make Script for UL-Z00T-WW-21.40.0.2210-user version? I would really appretiate.
