I have a working froyo nook but I am having trouble installing market, gmail, flash, remaping volume buttons ect..... Could someone upload a froyo image with all of the above please. Is this possible?? FYI I rooted my nookcolor with autonooter. I will donate money to the froyo cause tomorrow via paypal thanks.
Please post in correct sections of the forum.
Sorry what is the correct section I thought Nook Color Android Development was correct since froyo is an android development for nook color thanks. Can you move this post to the correct section?

Did you read/follow this guide?
http://nookdevs.com/NookColor:_Nookie_Froyo_Tips
I read it yesterday and today it is all foreign to me lol. I'm guessing I need other programs on my computer to install that way. I'm a noobie and I'm really surprised I was able to root.

If you're having trouble with adb, this thread might be helpful to get you started using it.

There are some issues with the sd creation with some software in which the nook will boot, but the folder structure is not adb friendly, names appear to be gibberish when you run adb shell, ls...
Just fyi.

You need to dumb down the terminal... It's trying to display colors.
Try...
ls --color=never (I used this one)
\ls (This also turned up in a search)
Still no luck
I have adb installed and I can get to shell but i cant get it to install apps. I have downloaded the apks but when I try to install them I am lost. I was hoping someone could upload an image of froyo with all the needed apps if this is possible. I am leaving town in the morning and I will not be able to bring my computer with me. So I was hoping to get this before I go to bed so I have something for my trip out of town. I really want the market and but really all the wanted apps. Thanks in advance.

Hey man,the name's Andy.I'm new here on XDA and stumbled across this thread just surfing and looking for the MyFaves App as well for my G1. I am running the SuperHero V2 and am also looking for the myFaves app. I know a lot of people don't like it but it's just a quick way to access your favorite 5 people. Anyways...Do you understand any of this jibber jabber at all? I've read the thread and don't understand how to install the app onto my G1. When I flashed the Hero ROM to my G1 I lost the MyFaves App and am just trying to get it back. I've read many many threads on this topic but am still learning how to add apps. Any help would be greatly appreciated from anybody as to how to install this app onto my G1 with Hero Rom. Thanks in advance everybody! Any answers can be sent directly to [email protected] as I do not check threads that much. I check back every other day while being bored at work. Any Help is GREATLY appreciated!

get ready for some more jibba jabba. Be sure your phone is allowed to install non-market apps. Do this by selecting Options then Applications, then make sure you select the check box next to "Unknown Sources".
Next download the .apk and load it onto your SD card. After thats done go ahead and download Astro file manager from the Marketplace. With me so far? Good. Once you have astro installed launch it and look for the .apk you placed on your sd card. If you did everything properly then you will be able to select the .apk and press Install.
Hope that helps

I'm tracking on what your saying and totally understand but where can I download the myfave.apk file from? Thanks again,it's very much appreciated!
short answer: you cant.
the myfaves app is an odex file, completely different ballgame. basically, nobody has found a way of incorporating it into roms yet and t-mobile never put it on the market like their other apps.
regardless, unless youre using the myfaves app for the interface, its useless anyway. set your myfaves through t-mobile.com and then set up direct call links on your desktop using anycut or bettercut.

Couldn't say it any better. Plus you won't want the myfaves app on your phone because its a memory hog.
MyFaves?
OK,one more question. I've been trying to modify things and trying to figure out how to do this. Does anybody know how to use apps2sd to move the myfaves.apk or the odex file or whatever to the sd card? Basically like moving an app to the sd but with the myfaves app? Anybody understand what I'm saying? Just curious. I'm trying to figure this out so that I can try to port it to a Hero build. I'm kinda at a dead end here.Any help is appreciated.
in windows you have to have "show file extensions" enable in the view tab of Folder Options

I have myFaves already,I'm trying to figure out how to move it to the SD Card like apps2sd would do. When I use apps2sd though it does not move MyFaves to the SD card. I think if I could figure this out and get it to work I MAY(not for sure) would be able to port it to a hero build.IDK. I'm just trying anything to get it ported right now.I'm working hard on this and racking my brain and searching and looking and scouring for answers. Thanks for your input though.

I think what they are looking for is where to put the files that they download. I know in the rooting tread, it was missing. I also think some people do it differently, so it may help just to let them know how you find it easiest to navigate to them, etc.
Personally, I take the files that were downloaded and extract them all. Then make sure you have downloaded the android SDK program and put it on the root of your computers hard drive such as drive C:. Then add those files you downloaded to the "Tools" file within sdk.
To navigate to them with command prompt, it would look like: cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
Then run the commands as listed in the tread.
Hope this helps.
Perhaps this is not the answer you are looking for, but if you are comfortable flashing roms, flash Cognition 2.2 (its already rooted).
Good luck

I'm running W7 and am having issues with adb. I'm a noob to android but I'm learning. Anyway, I tried your suggestion of adding the files to the tools directory but when I enter "su" the system returns "su: not found". Any help?
Moved to Q&A.
I have never used anything android before and just want to make sure before I decide anything.
Rooting will delete anything currently on my NC Correct? So all my books will be gone Right? Second, will I be able to reconnect to my account and re-download my books?
I have a stock NC with 1.1.0 and want to root so I can tweak the cpu and make it work with ad hoc so I can connect it to my phone, but I want to make sure that I can still access tn b&n shop, plus maybe get angry birds or something... ;-)
For rooting 1.1, one quick option is the unofficial auto-nooter 3.0 in the Development forum. I would consult the nook devs website and follow their instructions for version 1.01. They are a bit more clear about how to go about things. Look around at the other options to see if you might prefer them instead.
I don't think auto-nooter will clear your data. Consult the nook devs page to double check.
Auto-nooter will definitely allow you to get angry birds and the like.
Truthfully cannot help you with the rest, sorry.
And thats my first XDA post. I sincerely hope this helped and that I didn't get anything wrong. A little new to this myself, but I wanted to contribute.

If you use the AutoNooter 3.0 it will not Delete anything on your internal memory for your Nook color. However you will need to use a SD card to write the Nooter to and anything on that SD card will be erased so back it up first. you will still be able to use all the features of the Nook Color after rooting Except For the "In Store" Features such as reading a book free for a hour. but syncing your library and buying from the online store will not be effected.
I suggest you leave your nook in stock rom (not root); and get a fast SD card for running froyo latest build. What rooting gives to you are market and admin access. You can have that from froyo.

flash
hi, i installed autonooter 3.0 now and I was wondering if is there anyway to install flash player to work with this rooted version?
I'd rather not spend money on another SD card. I only have a 4GB class 2 (barebones I know) but I do want to keep the stock, but want to adjust the cpu to make things a little smoother and allow the adhoc for my phone as I don't have wirelss at work. Other than that I love my Nook the way it is so no real need for froyo IMO. As for the in-store options..I have never brought my nook into a B&N lol, so I didn't even know there were in-store options lol.
I would suggest a higher class SD Card. There have been "reports" of low class SD cards not working...not sure where these are...but they have the warnings. They are there for a reason.
I like my root with 1.01 BN Update. I am preparing to un root and apply BN Update 1.1 along with AutoNooter 3.0 over the weekend. I am happy with out Froyo and I am still one of the odd balls that still uses this as its intended purpose...an E-Reader lol
AutoNooter 3.0 is build on Android Eclair 2.1...there is no flash support for this OS. If you want flash support, search the forums here Froyo options to get flash.
Good Luck

How do I sideload an .apk?
Okay something else weird has happened now. When I click NookColor Tools it just brings me to the regular settings menu...
edit: nm reboot fixed it.
new question....How do I edit permissions for folders and such so I can copy/paste an apk into system\app? I don't have root explorer (that is the apk I am trying to move) and I can't get ADB working...I am using the Free version of Astro Filemanager.
I rooted my 1.1.0 and did not lose anything I had on my Nook. I used AutoNooter 3. I bought a class 4 4gb PNY brand microSDHC with adapter and a USB SD card reader. After the root, I reformatted the microSD card to use for the Nook. I am now debating about changing to Froyo so I can use flash, but I'm still researching.

They should be under system/apps. Make sure your browsing the Book and not the SD card. You might need Root Explorer. I can see the apps with Astro, but can't do some things to them with root access.

Did you enable non-market apps in the NookTools?

By fast do understand the sd reader in the nook is rated class 6. Buying a class 10 is a waste of money and can cause problems. I would have mentioned this in the DEV forums but having less than 10 posts elsewhere prevents me from including that information where it is most needed but it should help you.

edit: oh and one other weird thing...anyone else have weird touchscreen issues when the charging cable is plugged in?
Hello. I rooted my Atrix and have had no problems. I deleted most of the bloatware. I also put the settings in for the apn and access wifi hotspot via this forum.
Just a couple minutes ago, I plugged in the HDMI cable to show my mother some stuff on the phone and how the Media Center is but it wouldnt come up. It came up before I did all the root. But now, when plugged in it would pop up on my screen asking what to select and then it would go away. Can someone help me on what possibly might have happened? I would really appreciate this. Thank you so much.
Nick
sounds like you deleted something when you were removing the bloatware.
as advised in other threads, don't remove it, freeze it with titamium backup.
do a factory reset and pray it comes back.
It wont come back after a factory reset so....what you have to do is get the retail motoblur dump file and push the apks to the phone using ADB. Remember to push them to the sytem not /data.
Thank desigegears for telling me this.

Yes I did a factory reset and it didnt come back. I just read the thread that talked about that uptop after I did this. I feel so bad. I screwed up. How do I get the Retail Motoblur dump file? And pushing the APKs to the phone using ADB. I havent done this in a while. Please any help I would really appreciate it.
One of the devs posted it on the forum, not sure where. MAybe on page two? just scroll down. To push them to adb, designgears posted http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966405 which shows how to push files. Just push the mediacenter one.
Thank you for the info. Im downloading a file where the dump said Blur_Version.4.1.26.MB860.ATT.en.US.tar.gz is that correct? It was in this forum. But the fileformat I dont know what to open that up with. Its like 145MB. I had to PM Designgears because I really dont know how to do this. I would just need the 1 file? I do have the phone rooted with Root Explorer. Anyway I can get the file on the phone and cut and paste it in the right path?
Ok that was the right file. I do have the mediacenter.apk file now. Anyway I can put this on there with the phone rooted? I have root Explorer and can paste that apk in there.
Use 7 zip to open the file. Got to the app folder and find the one named media center. Push that file or paste it into /system

Hi all,
I got one of those $199 Nooks on eBay, for the express purpose of using it as a decent-quality poor man's tablet.
I chose not to root it, and left the stock ROM alone, instead installing Honeycomb onto a microSD using the method described on nookdevs. (Can't post links yet, too new)
I then enabled the Android Market using the method also described on nookdevs.
I did spoof my fingerprint, as if I was using a Nexus S.
I have successfully loaded SOME apps. However, in the Market app, I can't see apps I KNOW exist (TweetDeck, Facebook).
My associated device list is empty (I'm presuming this is because the Nook isn't technically supposed to be able to access the market), so I can't even try and load them from the market's website.
Anyone have any ideas?
Edit to add: I also noticed: I can view my downloaded apps through the market website, but not the market app. The app insists I have "No downloads from Android Market"
Ok. You have to root it. I suggest autonooter. It will not change your rom. It will only install software. So you can run market. Live wallpapers. Etc..... and its really easy. Just pop the sd card. And it does magic
then you can install a custom launcher from the market. I suggest adw launcher or launcherpro
Rooting and installing roms are completely different things
Hope this helps.
Edit. Autonooter will also install a good keyboard. That is much better than the stock
Nook Color via Xda App
My understanding is that since I'm running Android from an SD card, I don't need to root the original hardware, as the Nook gives boot priority to the SD card reader, if an OS is present.
You're saying that's incorrect?
(Just trying to clarify)
I don't understand what your having trouble with but you have no reason to Root your Nook. I'm running Nookie Froyo and Nookie Honey off of 2 sepperate Cards without Rooting and everything works great. Although at this time I reccomend using Nookie Froyo because Honeycomb is not up to fluff yet because it wasn't made from the Honeycomb SDK(Not yet available) but the Preview Image(Think Demonstration or Demo version) Running Froyo instead will probably solve your problems.

You are correct. You can continue to run from your sd and never mess with your emmc. Personally I prefer running off the emmc, if for nothing else performance reasons. Since it is just about impossible to brick these things (because the boot priority is to the sd card), I suggest experimenting. You can always get back to stock.

Well, I tried Froyo. Same problem. Guess I'll have to accept that my "poor man's tablet" won't give me full access to the Market. Hopefully an update somewhere (like a ROM based off the SDK) will fix it. 'Til then, no TweetDeck for me!

That would be awesome Japzone. Do you have Facebook too?

perhaps reverting your fingerprint would be helpful? I'm running HC from the SDCard and I've installed plenty of apps from the market.
I was unable to find Facebook before today, but it showed up just now in a search (using the fingerprint set in the rom) and installed just fine, but FC's on startup. Tweetdeck also shows up for me, but I don't plan to install it anytime soon

Here's the answer - at least it worked for me without having to get my hands dirty with a lot of command line work (swore that off after leaving DOS batch files behind) - used to refresh Android Market for my Nook Froyo (2.2) emmc install:

Great video - it turns out I had un-intentionality ran this procedure on my device while having problems installing apps from the market.

I would love to have a working APK of Tweetdeck. I downloaded it from the Market, but it just says "Application Not Installed."
Thanks!
Appreciate it. I tried sideloading an apk I got from someone else, and it doesn;t work. I'm using TweetCaster for now.
