So i'll keep this simple. My captivate is less than two months old and it's become VERY slow. I get lag of at least five seconds every few minutes. Frankly it's starting to piss me off; I know this is a fast phone. I have the J16 froyo ROM. Could it be my ROM? What do you guys recommend as a rom? My iphone 3GS was MUCH faster. (the lag on my captivate ia usually from typing or pressing the touch sensitive buttons at the bottom. Tabs in apps sometimes as well.)
Please help!

It could be a few different things. Easiest would probably be to just flash a rom like Phoenix 3.0 or Perception 10.1
I don't think its a rom issue. Just try to get rid of Widgets, live wallpaper(if u have one), and non-needed apps and see what happens.

If he is using just a leaked froyo rom. it probably has no lag fix. So installing a rom like i mentioned will give him the lagfix.
only widgets I have seen that make a lot of lag are ones that constantly use sensors, like compass widgets, etc.

I've used them all, and these really stand out!!
You can use the kernels that come with them or flash your own kernel and modem.
Thanks all for the replies. The only Widgets I run are the Task killer, and the power saver one to quickly enable wifi when in range, etc. No live wallpaper.
I don't have any hard evidence, but my experience is that having alot of apps slows down the phone. For me, when i have more than 10 or so apps, the phone begins to get bogged down. 15+ it becomes very noticable. 20+ i flash a new rom haha.
It was the rom. Im now running phoenix 3.0 and I now get H! Thanks man!

I tend to disagree on this.
I have like 45+ user apps on my phone. And its still pretty snappy. I am attaching a screen shot taken from "Smartbench 2010".

Ditto and this has been my 3rd phone, so how do you think I feel, LOL I feel your pain, and the best part is all Sprint or HTC do tom try to resolve the issue is troubleshoot, and I so tired of there factory reset solutions, LOL
i had the same issue until i rooted and got away from sense based roms.
i'm currently using CM6 test 4, no issues with dialer lag....same with darchdroid 2.7
the hero is a slow phone...no doubt about it and sense makes it crawl to a halt. i regret coming back to this phone after owning the evo for a week. i got rid of that phone because of lack of customization.

my hero is blazingly fast. faster and more responsive than the stock evo's and DInc's ive played with.
ive no dialer lag. im rooted, nfinites .6 odex version with darch #6 kernel. so fast. so fast. i also love all the customization ive been doing in the graphical areas, bars, the 3g icon, etc. the hero really is a great device...i often have to remind myself thats its also a telephone. heres hoping for the cdma htc legend(which im sure sprint will call the hero 2. ill call it the htc legend)
also, op, if you would like to solve your lag issue there are countless ways to do so. look around in these forums, the members and devs here are amazing brains... and with a little instruction/research you can do almost whatever you want to with an htc hero.
It happens on my Alltel Hero too. It's known issue and Alltel has sent notice to HTC for a fix with no response.

Let's get back on topic, shall we
DonB, have you downloaded any task managers or task killers from the Market? Using one of these on a stock non-rooted phone is a great way to kill programs that run in the background to free up memory, which is where the lag is probably coming from.
Advanced Task Killer (ATK) is my personal favorite. It basically allows you to kill (end) open applications that are sucking up free memory. One of these is a must-have app to improve battery life and smoothness of your phone. PM me if you need more info.
No, I do not use any task killers as I was told they cause issues with other programs, what I do us is a shortcut for running services and everyday now I reboot my phone once in the morning and then click on the running services and stop process on 3 apps, Gtalk, CS Vmail as I use Youmail, and Sprint TV, there are others in the list but I am not sure what they are so I have not stopped them, LOL but any advice you recommend I am will to try, for now I have downloaded Launcherpro and have been using that for a week or so and have notice it has been much better, there is still some lag at times , but not nearly as much as when I had HTC Sence UI as default, so it is much more manageable, before I had 30 sec lags with HTC Sense at times , not all the time but it was painful when it was that long, now worst case scenario is about 10 seconds

Hi guys,
I have an HTC Desire, i like it and i love it, but i think it lacks on many features as compared to Galaxy S. So here i am guys i want to buy a Galaxy S for my brother, who actually wants a blackberry, i have convinced him that its way better.
So anyone who is using it can tell me how is it as far for contacts and messaging, and other features??
Thanks
to be honest.. Its pretty sh*t.. sorry but 3 days I had it.. Desire is sooo much better!
Galaxy S- buggy OS
laggy
bad battery (very!!)
screen too big to operate with one hand
etc etc thats my experiance with SGS..
I have to disagree with the above poster, I have had the Vibrant (t-mo galaxy s), for a little over a month now, works great. Sure the stock load sucks, but most do ..
Would not be posting on XDA if you did not know about custom roms.
Battery life, depends on what you leave running, I get at least a full day if I don't leave a Shload of things running, mine is rooted and use setcpu to throttle back when not needed ...
GPS issues, some have them some don't, mine, locks in about 30 seconds, and is down to under 10m accuracy.
Voice quality is great, much cleaner than the HD2 I had.
Compared to the Desire which is a good phone, the Screen makes the Galaxy S , a winner, not to mention the touch is super accurate.
Coming from the HD2 I could not say the screen is too big to use one handed ..
It is a very fast phone, it runs smooth with a lot of apps loaded, (on non stock firmware), and although FroYo is not out for it yet, should be coming soon.
Considering I can stand out in almost direct sunlight, and use the phone without squinting at the screen that is a big bonus.
The only thing I could say about the Vibrant variant, is it does feel almost cheap, since the battery cover is plastic, the phone is tough, but just feels too light to be that tough.
As far as contacts and messaging go, it works well, not sure I am thrilled with the TouchWiz, interface that is on top of them, but it works.
thanks for the response, i wont mind more of it.
Thanks

Apparently you didn't have enough time with iT.
Buggy os? You kept it stock huh? Mines running a leaked 2.2 and its fast as sh*t
Laggy? Really? Did you really say that? You kept it stock for sure.
Screen to big? How small are your hands? Oompa lumpa sized? Mine are tiny and I can write just fine with one.
Bad battery? Hell no. This easily lasts me 2 days on one charge before it dies. You just have to train it.

Can't agree more.
so wait, let me get this straight. What y'all android lovers are saying is that you traded one buggy, laggy OS that requires an unlock and custom ROM to fix, for another???
I tried to help a coworker with his and it is very laggy and had several force closes over about an hour of me playing with it. Several times I had to wait 10-15 seconds for the screen to become responsive again.

What do you expect? At least you should install the 0013d/2708 combo to get additional 15MB RAM, otherwise Gingerbread ROMs will be slow, especially when you enable swap. If you would like to try out a GB ROM on your G1 you should go with ezGingerbread or one of it's variants. Just my 2 cents.
i might get rid of the g1. I saw on youtube peoples were running fast but mine is unusable except to text and make calls and even those apps are slow.

Have you tried updating your SPL/radio and ROM? Froyo ROM is pretty fast.
the phone is posted for 10 times .
and I find that the cyanogenmod 5 is very fast .
you can try.
the android system is 2.1 .
well if you have the time you could solve your problem quite easy.
root, change firmware and radio, and install a newer and tweaked rom like Laszlos' rom or froyo for trout. these are quite reliable.
This phone really isnt slow. It all depends on a persons needs as a cellphone user. For me its perfect. I dont play games, or run ram intensive apps. As long as i can make a call, send text/mms and browse the web every once in a while im a happy camper. Not to mention Laszlos Rom is so fast, i feel like im on a newer device anyway.

yep. its fully enough for me as well. now that theres DreamTeams' Froyo 2.2.2. based ROM, it even more snappy and fast than was with Laszlos' ROM, except there's not yet notification powercontrol and reboot option at Longpress-Powerbutton, but they are working on it.
so should one do nandroid backup and try that mod as well!

Hey guys,
I love my Captivate and I don't want to have to replace it but I'm having serious issues. I installed Cyanogenmod 10 and Devil Kernel and overall its been working ok. But the phone is SO SLOW! From wake up, it sometimes takes about 5 - 10 seconds before it will register that I've done something and even then it takes another 5 - 10 seconds to start an app. Rebooting helps for a little while, but the slowness comes right back.
Most of the time it will freeze up after an input and then do everything I asked it to do in about 2 seconds, then freeze up again.
I've got it OC'd (which I had hoped would help) and I'm using wheatley governor in Devil Kernel. Doesn't seem to make a difference over stock settings. No force closes or instability just absolute gridlock when trying to do anything. Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks for the tips! I am really good about closing apps that I am not using, and I try to restart my phone at least once a day (but that really shouldn't be necessary). I know Android and task killers don't get along - any suggestions on something that might work?

Have you tried the Devil settings in the link?
As for task killers, I personaly use ATK (no auto-kill) when I know I'll require some extra RAM for what I'm about to do but unless you have some rogue app taking all your RAM, 5-10 seconds lock shouldn't happen.
Slow performance usually comes from lack of free RAM, therefor, there has to be something (app most likely) using too much. Other thing could be that your phone is too full, so either too many apps (100+) and/or not enough free space on your SD card (less than 1gb).
Does it happen randomly or with specific apps? If specific, are those apps from restore or fresh install?

It's just not as fluid as i wished it would be. I reseted the phone, and als already wiped everything.
i would really apreciate any help or tip, or if somebody could post his experience.

Hello thats strange i even have a heavy live wall paper and absolutly no lag.....
0 lag here, on anything that I've done on this phone,
Bit of a pain but you could try a wipe? I have had no lag at all when moving through home screens.
Don't expect it to be lag free out of the box until a few OTA's. HTC one x had more than five ota updates and ever since JB which came after 6 months it's been super fluid.

No homescreen lag for me, either, and I have plenty of widgets as well as the built-in Weather Live Wallpaper. I've seen the occasional in-app lag, but Sense has been surprisingly fluid.
So your n4 had less lag?
If anything after you flash a custom ROM I'd put money on these little issues being resolved

Yeah, the nexus 4 was less laggy ist not that its always laggy but some times the screens react a lttle to late.
But can it be an hardware issue? Cause everything else just works fine and its hard to get one.

No lag at all, did you copy all your data directly from your nexus to your one? Could be that something that's either been restored from there or titanium is playing merry havoc with your shiney new phone. Try cleaning up your internal memory and try to avoid restoring anything and see if the problem persists, then restore things one thing at a time til you find the culprit.

I havent restored anything from my nexus, a i wrote above the device was even wiped twice and i have just installed maybe ten applications from the store. im just worried cause everybody writes that there is absolutly no lag, but i defenetly feel one.
And one more question, is your gallery app also so lagy while scrolling through the pics?
And there where some images. and songs from Htc before i wiped everything, can anybody tell me how to restore them?
t-mobile stock everthing here. (1.27)
i noticed it too.
Especially when scrolling around tapatalk, htc one is noticeably laggier than nexus 4. disappointing.
