my internet is broken...q - Nook Color General

so i was trying to get vnc going on my pc/nook and ended up killing my internet capability on the nook.
im connected, and have reconnected, to my wifi but it has not solved the issue.
anytime i try and load any internet using app, it just closes. xda app says "missing internet permission"
wtf mate?

Happened to me once...
Try deleting the saved password for the wireless connection and then unplugging the router, then plug the router back in and reconnect...
Worked for me.
P.s. you can delete the save password by going to:
Settings>wireless and then by tapping your wireless connection and selecting "forget"

Wifi Internet

Hey guys, i got my kaiser a couple of days ago. Its a brilliant machine and i love using internet on it using my wifi connection at home. Suddenly it has stopped browsing the internet. It connects to wifi alright, show good strength signal and everything but when i enter a web address it takes ages to respond and in the end gives the error 'check name and try again.' what's wrong with it...?
i'd appreciate if some could help.
P.S. i have done countless soft resets and a hard reset as well.
cheers
I've had problems like that before. By any chance is your router named something like Linksys or default? I'm wondering if it's connecting but not using the correct profile. I'm not sure about the phones but on a computer you can connect to wifi that is wep enabled without a wep key. You can't get any data from the router but it shows your connected.
Also have you tried another access point to rule out your router?
Don't you have to go to wifi settings and change it from BEST PERFORMANCE to BEST BATTERY or is it the other way around?

No, i haven't tried any other AP, its my home network and i have only one router. Its quite an old one but i am sure its not from linksys. Last time i successfuly used wifi internet on my kaiser was a few hours ago before i installed a remote desktop access program on my kaiser. I have uninstalled it now but the problem remains.
The phone might have profiles based on the name of the router, so if you have a common name and it picks another one up of that name, it could cause this sort of problem.

So what do i need to change, the name of the router or the profile on the kaiser, by the way , where is the profile on the pocket pc ?
P.S. its Belkin and the called WLAN.
go into the com manager and hit settings, then wireless lan. You might want to look around in there to see if you can remove the profile.

Hi again, you wouldn't believe what i am about to tell you. The problem gets solved like magic just with a couple of clicks. In your power settings for the wireless network, change it from best battery life to best performance and voila! it starts working. The moment you change it back to best battery life, it dies out. I have tested it time and again and use another utility called 'vxutil' to use different commands like ping and see information like default gateways and DNS and DHCP but everything was alright.
P.S. this will only work if the network settings are correct ALREADY!
Thanks for the help guys!

Wifi Problems

Well I've had my Captivate for 3 months, and up until now it's been smooth sailing. Two days ago I came home and my power was off, and when it came back on I tried connecting to my router like usual, but now it won't connect. On the "wifi settings" menu it just says "obtaining ip address from..." for a few seconds then it says "disconnected" and goes back into "scanning..." mode. Also, under the "wifi networks" section it shows my network as "Disabled, secured with WPA/WPA2 PSK". (I am using a Linksys WRT54G with WPA2 security f.y.i.)
I've tried "forgetting" the network, I've deleted the whole file that remembers your networks, I've tried connecting via WPS button, I've double checked my password, I've power cycled my router, I've reset my router back to default and re-configured it...still nothing. It connects to the wifi on campus with no problems (in 4 different buildings), so obviously there is something wrong with my router setup.
If anyone has any advice on how to resolve this problem, it would be much appreciated!
**Also, I forgot to mention I am running Cognition v2.2 Beta 6

Happened to me a few times. Only way I could get out of this was to restore to a previous backup, or install fresh again. By the way, I experienced this problem only on 2.2. Never happened on 2.1.

Unfortunately I don't have anything else with wireless to test.
Elaborating on the issue
I've encounter exactly the same problem described here.
Samsung Galaxy S I9000. Froyo (official version). Not rooted.
Now it is the first time it has happened, and still I have not found a solution (restarted the router, restarted the phone and made more tests).
Before the upgrade to Froyo it has never happened. After the upgrade it worked ok for several days untill now.
Several other deviced at home are well connected to the router.
Its just s stupid suggestion maybe... but have you tried to change channels with your router?
Sometimes is just a stupid channel issue....
I found out the answer to this problem. I had to connect using static addressing. It seems at some point, the captivate 2.2 roms get confused for some of us and it starts trying to assign an IP address already used.
In my case, I tried everything... rebooting phone, router, ect.
Laptop connects fine, Wii connects fine...
But, I decided to connect via static addressing... BAM connected perfectly and instantly.
Connecting to other DHCP networks seems to be hit and miss as well.
So, I'd suggest reflashing might be the overall fix. But if you're like me and cannot reflash right away, try static addressing till you can get around to it.

Awesome! This sounds like a promising solution, thanks. Yeah I need to reflash soon anyway seeing as how Cognition is up to 2.4.x already...
Probably won't be tonight, but I will do this soon and let you know my results.
Alright, I have typed just about every keyword into google relating to setting up my router/phone to use a static IP and for some amazing reason there are ZERO results that have any information whatsoever about setting up a static ip on a phone. This is really frustrating, so if anyone would be kind enough to explain how to do this or link me somewhere that does, that would be awesome
go to your wi-fi settings and click the menu button.
it should pop with a "scan" and "advance"
click on advance and scroll down to "use static ip address"
then i guess you have to put in your network details, not sure on the details there cause i have done it but experiencing same problem with my galaxy s
power went out and now can't connect to my network
Edit : Possible fix
I just managed to connect to my network.
I put the device in flight mode and restarted my modem at the same time
put it out flight mode and pluged in the modem again and now works.
Hopefully that works for you to guys.
Yea, works perfectly. I have my laptop connected to it right now. I usually have to reset the phone to get wifi again.
edit: I set it to static ip, but then i got the same problem. Except now google search engine works No webpage opens, youtube app didnt work either.. only the search engine worked.
Well my phone must be in a good mood today because it just decided to start working again all on its own! I don't know what caused it...I have actually had both my phone and computer constantly on since this started happening. So for now I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping it doesn't mess up again.
This is probably just for me, but this isn't a viable solution.
The ONLY router I seem to have this issue with is the one that Verizon gives all it's FiOs customers. It's the Actiontec M1424WR Router/Modem. I know my WEP key is correct because it works just fine on all the laptops and other phones (a Palm Pre and another Captivate on 2.1). It tries to obtain an IP address for about 5 minutes and then just sits and says disabled. Does anyone know if there's a way to dump the DNS cache or whatever like you can on Windows?
Add me to the list of ones having this problem...guess I'll try to reflash everything in a bit to see if that fixes the problem.
Just an update I backed up everything using Tibu and then just restored it and my WiFi problem went away.
Mine is stock and just started having this problem....will connect to other wireless routers except mine, really pissing me off!
I've tried many times having the the phone "forget" me, then put in my password(which is correct)...same thing over and over.
Same problem here
I have a galaxy s and the recent update to froyo brought me the same problem already described here.
And the "funny" thing is that my router doesn't have an Static IP option, it's a simpler router from the cable provider.
So i'm trying also to find a solution to this. Two days ago i changed the wifi channel and it worked. But today i have again the same problem and changing the channel don't work anymore.
Each time i find a possible solution, it only works one time.
This is really annoying me. This must be a froyo bug, 2.1 never gave me this problem

[Q] Wifi stopped working?!

My Nook is having CM7/Phiremod v5.2 and has been connecting to my home wifi with no problems.
Suddenly it can't connect. There is a small question mark on the wifi icon.
It scans and finds the usual networks. Try to connect, it seems to be negotiating, but it doesn't connect. I have tried to re-enter the key, but no success.
Has powered down and restarted several times. No luck.
Ran a "fixing permissions" from Rom Manager (dunno' if it could help, but...). No luck.
Other devices can connect to my home wifi.
Connected the Nook to the wifi access point at my work. No problems, good connection.
Tried to boot Honeycomb of the SD-card. Wifi couldn't connect.
The wifi hardware of the Nook works, but it won't connect to a network that it has been connecting to ever since I got the Nook.
What's going on?
Anybody has a cure?

First off, have you rebooted your AP? Sometimes they go stupid.
Have you tried deleting and reconfiguring the connection? IE: The "Forget" option?
Also, verify that your access point is not using AES encryption for the connection. AES seems problematic. TKIP seems to work okay.
Just stRted happening to today as well.

No reboot yet. The reason is that my home AP is managed by my work, and reboot means all sorts of hassle. So I'll avoid as long as possible. But other devices (my laptop) connects.
Yeah, deleted and reconfigured. No change.
It's using TKIP.
Now I'm doing a backup of the Nook, considers installing Phiremod v5.3.
Maybe that'll change something.
What about deleting some of the caches of the Nook. Anything there?
Same here. Wifi was working until today (4/4). All other devices in my home network are connected without problems.
I have 1.1, rooted with autonooter.
Updated with Phiremod v5.3.
Problem still there
Enter passkey, says "Authenticating" and then the connection to the AP is "Disabled".

Did you try hitting menu while in the WiFi options menu, and going to advanced? You can force the nook to have a static IP and connection information. It might help, you never know.

Is this a problem specific to Phiremod (5.3), or are people having WiFi issues with the Nook Color in general?
New to Nook Color and to Phiremod. Have everything up and running just fine, but keep getting repeatedly kicked off WiFi every few minutes. Have to disconnect then reconnect. No other devices have issues. I never used the Nook Color stock, so no idea if it's just the device itself.
Router's an up-to-date Netgear WNDR4000, running WPA2-PSK [AES]. WEP or WPA-PSK [TKIP] not an option -- not secure.

[Q] Captivate Wifi Issue

Hi All,
I have a weird problem with my captivate of not connecting to my home network. Let me start by telling that I have searched the solutions and tried doing everything except full factory reset. I have rebooted the phone, done reset on my router (Wifi was working just fine earlier.. so I think settings was not an issue. But I still did it), I removed the file data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf and let it regenerate it. Captivate displays "Obtaining IP Address" and it just stays there. I also see that IP address is being assigned to captivate in my router
Captivate is rooted stock Froyo
Router security: WEP
form the Wifi list, I found one unsecured network and captivate connects to that router just fine (signals are very week though...). I tried removing the security on my router but it still stuck on "Obtaining IP address".
Can you please please help me?? As I mentioned earlier, It was working just fine and suddenly stopped working two days back.
These all app updates are eating away my limited data of 200M.
Thanks a millian.
What's your router model ?
What channel are you running on ?
Are others routers close to you running on the same channel ?
Have you tried another channel ?
Did you try WPA2 ?
Could be incompatibility with your router. That happened to me before with my old router. It didn't work with some cell phone wifi devices.
Sent using XDA App
Try using the app "FXR." I had the same issue a couple times and this app seemed to fix it. It took a few tries though. I think it might be a router problem. I use the Linksys wrt54g.
You could also try assigning a static IP address to your device on the router side, and then telling your phone to use that address. I've used that in the past to some success.
As a test, have you tried (temporarily) disabling the security on your router to see if it connects?
I have a similar problem since upgrading to the past 3 nightlies. My phone sees and connects to my home network and says it has strong signal, but when I try to access Market or Internet it says there's a network error and I can't get thru. My two computers (one hard wired and one wi-fi) don't seem to have any problem hooking in to the internet, just my SGS1

Does the 'FXR' app set up IP addresses?
The App didn't work for me. I tried that yesterday. I was reading the similar problems on some other site yesterday and I found the following that solved my issue. In case someone like me still struggling with the WiFi problem.
Delete file data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf
Delete file /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list
reboot the device and it will create these files again and you will have to enter your WiFi password again in order to connect.
I am really glad that my WiFi is working back again.
FYI, I'd change the WEP to WPA.

WIFI not work X8 - ?ROUTER settings? !

Hi guys!
I have problem, that my wifi won't work. It's connected but there's no internet connection. If I change security, i get wifi connection but after few minutes,I lost internet connection but wifi is connected. Same problem on my father HTC WILDFIRE S.
On my laptop wifi works well.
I search on web and there are some people having that trouble, but I didn't find solution. I don't want to use static ip,because I lost router connection,I must use DINAMIC IP for working router.
My router adress is 192.168.2.1
Help me what settings I must to set, change in my router settings. I attach photos from broadband router what settings I have set! Please attach your settings that I can set this on my router. I wan't my normal wifi back.
Thank you all!

Hey there 2010matej.
What router are you using? I have had similar problems that I fixed. Also, some friendly advice would be taking your internet IP off the thread. It can be useful for some people with less favorable intentions.
Also, I'm not sure if it is XPERIA X8 specific.
EDIT: Have you paid this month for internet?

I have this problem for so time. Yes we always paid for internet!
Ok. I have asked a friend of mine he said that there are a few ways to deal with this problem:
1) A hard reset. Just use a pencil or pen to press the reset button. Hold it there for 4 seconds and the rooter will reset. This will make you start as if from the beginning.
2) Check for any 'broadcast' settings. Enable any that have been disabled.
3) Disconnect any wires and power plugs then clean them and reconnect them.
I'm sorry if this does not work. I have tried quite hard to help but unfortunately this is all I got. My friend also gave me the link to this manual just in case.

Internet is slow at night so maybe this is the problem. Otherwise, try changing your channel. You may get better results. Go to speedtest.net and test your speed. Then come back. Also, connect the wire from router to laptop and it will be faster.

i think your problem is based on PPPOE connection type.
thing you do is you connect to your wifi but not to your operator.
THINGS YOU HAVE TO DO:
->go to http://www.torrapk.com/download/apps/WIFIPPPOE_v1.0/WIFIPPPOE_v1.0.php and download wifi pppoe apk
->install (root is needed).
->NOW connect to your wifi as usual.now when icon is displayed open the pppoe apk and insert your opereators username and pasword.(probably same as on your computer/laptop)
and DONE

I don't think that is needed at all.. Some routers are really cr*p when WPA2 encryption is used..
I'd try setting it to WEP and trying again.. If it's better, then proceed to MAC allow your devices so your network is secured.
Set the wireless channel to 11 for a strong signal too.
Then in advanced wireless settings on your x8 make sure that NEVER is selected as the sleep policy.
Remove your router in your x8 wireless settings and then set it up again..
Good luck!
Sorry I was under the impression that it wasn't working before at all and now it is. Will read further in future but I have to say that I can't refute or build on lukenda's advice.
