You can't install CWM for Sprint Tab as there isn't one. :-( Yes, choosing another will brick your device.
We definitely seem to have chosen poorly. The Sprint Tab seems doomed to remain crippled forever.
... the verizon cwm works on the sprint version... atleast thats what i read in that cwm forum post
Yeah kinda sucks to be a Sprint user right now.
I hope it changes soon or we get Honeycomb!
If not, I'll be moving on to other devices for sure.

Care to post the link... Please
I have read two people make this claim but everyone seems to ignore them. I really wanna know if this true..
Here is the OneClickRootCWM3.zip for the Sprint Galaxy TAB, I haven't posted it yet because no one on the nice forum called XDA will take a second to help with the kernel.
What this does...
With on click (like the epic)
Root
Install ClockworkMOD v3.0.0.0
install Superuser
What it is missing is a kernel (zimage) to make CWM3 work.
I'll keep pushing... Someone will help me.
Here is what happens right now when you load ClockworkMOD
PICTURE OF IT WORKING
Omg yes!
Sucks having the sprint tab I constantly have problems with memory running out and I've been using CM7 Rom on my evo and LOVE it.
Just wish I could install even CM6 on the tab, if anyone know of a backup I can run before I install clockwork?
Ill try the verizon clockwork and see what happens, I just dont wanna brick it and have no way to go back...

It just has to be EXT4 and we are good.
So, can anyone confirm the Verizon Flash option in ClockworkRM will work?
or you still need EXT4 for the kernel?

CWM not working
I have the Samsung galaxy tab the (Verizon) I rooted with z4root and it worked great. however when i went to rom manager and flashed clockwork 3.0.0.0 using rom manager . Rom manager said that it was successfully flashed. But when i turn off the tab hold down power vol up and home to get into CWM it just boots into the android recovery? anyone know why CWM isnt showing up? do i have to flash a kernel ? to make CWN work succesfully? Sorry if this is Sprint only but i didnt want to make a new thread so maybe someone could help here ? any idea's ???
You need a kernel for the CWM3 to work the way it should. If you load the VZW kernel from Koush on your Sprint Tab it won't act right. Not that its that different, but enough.

I really think the problem is with CWM at this point, I tried and tried and I believe it just cannot handle the Sprint tab internally in its code for some reason. The opensource VZW and Sprint kernels are the same, but maybe the partitions are named differently.

I can see that. I used VZW kernel and I kept getting md5 Errors... Can you pull apart the VZW kernel and compare what Koush did?

Can I trouble someone upload or point me to where I can download the latest ClockworkMod Recovery update.zip file for the Samsung Captivate?
Thanks!
You can download ROM Manager from the market. It will have different versions that you can use.

Oh boy, you have opened a never ending discussion now!
After you have done flashing for a while, the answer will be "whatever way you like best." For a very first timer, I would suggest the AIO tool at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944418
Personally, I am generally upgrading within a single ROM and I like to move it onto the sdcard and use CWM red recovery (3-button entry or from 'boot to recovery' in power-down menu now on my phone) and flash ROM from that, using the 'install zip from sdcard' option, or however it is worded.
Still looking for an answer to
"Is there any site or thread that has all/most CWMs in update.zip form, shows their versions, and describes them?"

The ROM manager and the CWM coming with it, 2.5.x doesn't work on stock Froyo.
Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone with the latest version of CWM (I believe it's a 3.0 version) wouldn't mind posting their update.zip?
ROM Manager doesn't work properly for me. Plus, I don't like using it. At all.
Thanks!

I was hoping this would work for me. Unfortunately it didn't. I am running 2.2 on my Captivate. I need to root it...does anyone know where to find an updated update file for 2.2?
When i had 2.2 froyo I just flashed DG's odin file to revert back to a rooted stock froyo. This worked for me I would upload the file but I no longer have it. sorry
You can use the one click root and if clockwork mod is not working on your stock 2.2 just use odin to flash the speed mod kernel it comes with clockwork and root access so you can use room manager etc.

No way is this a final product I can tell you from coding that FM Radio does not work and graphics might be kinda funny. Sounds should work and sensors might not work. Please report on here.

Warning attempting to install this ROM on the previously provided recovery will probably cause you to have to use ODIN.
This ROM is an attempt at using the bml over mtd system used by the galaxy s line of phones on Cyanogenmod
BTW using stock kernel anyone created a custom kernel they want to include?

Far from it.....
As the name implies this is a bone stock rooted ROM with the exception of root and busy and its de-odexed.
I also updated all the apps. So its not really bone stock but.. Close enough
This ROM has two purposes...
1. For someone that wants just that, a stock rooted ROM with no mods.
2. For others that want to dive into development or at least tinker around with there own custom ROM. This is a great base to work from! All the menial tasks such as rooting and de-odeodexing have been done for you.
Hope you find value in this!

I'm on stock KMN that I rooted myself and am showing an update to KMP, but it fails every time so I figure it's probably due to the fact that I'm rooted.
That said, I thought I would give this a try, but I'm loath to reinstall everything afterwards so my question is whether this requires a wipe? I'm assuming this is installed from recovery, is that right?

My friend own's a galaxy pop. I roorted it on sunday using SOC and flashed CWM recovery. but whichever rom i try to install, i get the message 'installation aborted'. when i start the phone, it works. but very unstable. random restarts, or the phone remains horizontal (not straight, qwerty keymode). motion doesnt work. Probably because its not installed properly.
I tried flashing the recovery again but no change. tried the latest recovery. also tried the older version of CWM recovery (v4.0.0.5). still no change.
In the end, i flashed a stock 2.3.6 gb rom for region:india. now there is no data connection nd wifi works.
don't know what has gone wrong.
I used Odin and tapps_v1(or whatever) to first flash android 2.3.6 immediatly after rooting. then i flashed CWM recovery. what shall i do????

I think you're confusing unlocked with rooted. A custom rom is typically rooted but you will still be locked to your carrier. To unlock you need to get a code from your carrier, they generally are reluctant to do this, or buy one on line.

How to root Rogers Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE SGH-I957R??

I have it updated to ICS so I'm hoping it's still possible, or maybe I could flash back to 3.2 and then root it but I can't find a file to let me flash it back either. To root, first flash this http:\\d-h.st/fqw (TWRP) in odin PDA. This will install the custom recovery. Then place this http:\\d-h.st/vjq (super SU-busybox) on your sd card in the tab. Just put it somewhere where you'll remember where. Boot into the custom recovery, hold power and vol. up until you see the samsung logo and release power while still holding vol. In custom recovery install super SU-busybox. You'll be rooted! Once on your tab open super SU and it will ask you to upgrade to the latest. All files have been tested on my i957.
That's awesome, thanks for the info. I'm about to try it right now.

Just flash the rom and then gapps in the custom recovery like you did super su. Except before flashing the rom wipe cache, dalvic, and system and factory reset. Wiping system will remove all ROMs so don't boot up before flashing your new rom. If you do you could brick your device.
And back everything up first. Factory reset will delete all your apps and settings.
PS, most custom roms are rooted so you didn't need to root your device first, just needed to install jb rom.

See nrvates building cm10. In the i957 development forum. Download the rom and gapps [Google apps]. In twrp do the wipes mentioned in my last post. Flash the rom just like you did the super su then flash the gapps (both in twrp) The last post in nrvates thread has a link to the rom. If the gapps link isn't working Google latest gapps and download one ending in something like 21011, don't remember exactly what it is. Then boot and you'll be running cm10 jelly bean.

Okay so I flashed the rom and then the gapps but it wouldn't boot properly after that, it came up saying Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 lte, and then a Samsung screen but then it was just a black screen. I can still boot back into twrp to flash something else to get it working again but I'm wondering if there's anything obvious that I may have done wrong. I wiped dalvik and cache and system and factory reset. Will this rom work on the i957r from Rogers? This is the tablet that I have. I noticed the file for the rom has att in the file name.
Thanks,
Adam

Do another factory reset in twrp. Should work on the r version as they're identical
