if my android is fully charged and plugged in, does it draw current from the charger or drain the battery?
Drain the battery, and start recharging at 89%
Once the phone reaches full charge, it runs completely off the charger. You can see this in the battery driver code as well as just trying it yourself. Nexus one only, each android battery driver is different.

I just got a brand new SGS, and one question puzzles me. On the old phones, you would need to format the battery. Is this still needed ?
we have mixed opinions in this forum.
personally i don't really care which one is truth, because i cycle through 3 ~ 5 battery packs
and i use them all until they are dry (when the phone POP up and warns you 10% left)
Li-Ion battery does not suffer the same problem as the old nickel-metal hydride and nickel-cadmium (the old ones requires training)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_battery
however there are members of this board that believes Li-Ion & Li-Po batteries still requires to be trained
The only truth behind either case, is that the more you leave the USB connected to the phone
the more your battery will get WASTED, that reduces the life cycle of your battery
it can easily be proven, if you leave a phone connected all the time to a power source, and you disconect it after a few months
the life of the battery gets shortened due it's contant charge & recharge cycles
that's why Android OS put a cap on battery full dectection, so that when the battery is fully charge, it WARNS you to disconect the phone, to prevent battery damage.
Android OS actually regulates the battery charge, by stooping further charges until it detects it's less than 99%, the only problem with this is that if your phone is dead (bricked) it will not charge the battery even if you leave it plugged as the OS is not running.
that's why using a wall charger to charge the phone is better
i'm using this kit here

Thanks for the detailed reply.
One more thing to add. A battery can be formed, not formated.
Got it. Thanks.
Not sure what I meant? Carefully observe the charging process of P990, when it's fully charged (which is defined as charged 100% in Android), it will stop charging and use the battery as power. When the battery has dropped to to 98%, it will be charged again. Well, this does not seems to be good for the life of battery as the battery are constantly charged and used. Better way would be slowly charging the battery while using the external power just like traditional ones. I would like to ask, if it's possible to use the traditional way to charge my battery instead of that way?
When I charge my phone and it says the battery is full and 100%, but after I unplug the charger, I only get 98% of battery. It is not really a problem but i'm just wondering if anyone else has this also.

Seems to be phone battery calibration, happens to me too. Try not to unplug the charger immediately after 100%, let it overcharge for few minutes more.

Also happening to me... It's because battery calibration...
This is the normal behavior of overcharge protection.
imagine you battery is charged till 100%, the overcharge protection now disable charging till the battery is loosing a few % of its charge, but the "battery memory" doesnt recognize this respectively doesnt refresh its state so your battery indicator will always show 100% until you unplug the phone.
if you unplug the phone at 100% it might be, that the battery memory is refreshing after loosing one more % of charge and now recognize, thats it wasnt at 100% at all and show you the current charge.
e.g. if you charge your phone when its off-state, this behavior shouldnt take place and the phone should charge till exactly 100%. important for recalibrating the battery.
Here, if you have root use this
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.liteup.calibratebattery
You can also load up clockwork recovery anf clear battery stats.
If no root access, fo the following.
1.Power on let fully charge
2.turn phone off while still plugged in
3. Remove battery and power cord and push power button for 5 secs
4. Replace battery amd power cord
5. Let fully charge again.
Once charged, power up while pluged in, once phone is fully loaded un plug and monitor battery,
None root battery calibration should be finished.

When it happens to me... I inmediatly replug the charger and wait... the second time I umplug I get 100% and It seems to repair the issue for the future charges.
i noticed this too! sometimes i do get 100% after charging. But most of the times its 98% immediately after unplug! And i have my battery calibrated too!:/
same issue
any solution for this guys?. I've calibrated my battery so many times and it is not fixing the 98% charge when unpluggin
mine's not...
try screen-on charging...
go to settings>deveLopment>check stay awake(charging)
if you're in Gingerbread version (2.3.4) when battery reached 99%, you"LL need to wait 1 more hour to make it fuLLy charged...
that's it!
tried and tested by most android users...
just charge it without using to avoid excessive heat of your device... :good:
What about first time using battery? Charge the battery 100% first or let it drain to 0% then fully charge?
I bought 2400mah battery, but cant get significant performance, fully charged first time use..
I think you were ripped off.
we will miss you Nicholas.... /s
If your going to buy an aftermarket battery. You get what you pay for. I ordered a mugen 1800mah delivered in 4 days from Hong Kong. My synopsis Bloody brilliant!
Waiting for my Jiayu g2s to be delivered
Hello everyone ....
I have a problem with charging the battery on my HD7...
When I leave the phone on the charger overnight ... the morning shines green light 100% battery, but after a few minutes show a lower value ... eg 90%. During the day, the battery drain is normal.
When the phone on the charger during the day and when the battery is charged (quickly turns off the charger) ... there is no effect of the rapid discharge of the battery. The battery is drained properly.
I concluded that the charger charges the battery to 100%, and then turns off. The phone starts to use battery the rest of the night. The phone is still on the charger. I think that is not normal behavior of the phone. My Trophy has not worked in this way
I use Nextgen 2.0 rom. and battery status v4.1.0
I wonder, the battery is bad or the software or something else.
thank you

No need, look at the bottom of his post - he fixed the problem with a new charger.
I had similar problem, changed to new one.
when u leave the phone on the charger overnight, what happens is that th ephone fully charges. to 100 % and then the charger shuts off. but the phone runs on fthe battery especially if u have the radios or wifi on but the indicator thinks that its still on the charger ...but the wifi radios ect is using the power
when u unplug the phone, the battery drains down to actual level aka rapid draining
I think battery or charger should be the problem but probably battery. pretty cheap on ebay
every time when i charge the phone from computer and using the phone while charging suddenly Ratio Battery become 100% even it was 1%
but that not happening while i charged from AC adabter
i tried to Calibration the battery but thats Unhelpful
any suggest
