[Q] B & N Root Question - Nook Color General

After I root my nook I still be able to download books to my nook? Will I still have access to the B & N store apps, my library, bookshelves etc? If not I suppose I could use the Nook app from the market to read the books?

Yes. The only functionality you lose is the "read in store" option.

NookBooks need WIFI CM7

Hello all,
I've got CM7 running great on my NookColor. Even the Nook App works, and I can redownload all of my books to wherever I want without issue. Bravo!
One slight snag though: the Nook App, for some strange reason, seems to require that the Nook be on Wifi in order for some books to open. This means when I'm at work I can't read some of the books I've paid for through B&N. I tried opening these with another reader (Aldiko), but I got a username/password request to open these books, and my B&N login doesn't work.
Does anyone know a fix for this? Or, is there another app that lets you open .epub files that come from the Nook App?
Much obliged!

I don't think I've ever tried using the Nook App with WiFi off - I'll have to try that after work.
As for Aldiko, I was able to read the B&N DRM protected books by using my B&N username (in my case it was my first and last name, but I'm not sure if that's standard) and my credit card number as the password. I just needed to do this once.
I never thought to use that as my password - I'll give that a shot and post back. Thanks!
After updating to the latest nightly and reinstalling, the Nook App is working just fine.

[Q] Nook for my Tab?

Hi guys,
I am new t Android, and got a Tab a few days back. Sold my wifes Nook, which had a few books on it. I saved the ePub files (the books) from the Nook... and copied them to the Tab... However... they won't load. I think it's a DRM issue?
Is there anyway I can load the Nook Books on my Tab? I have paid for them... But they seem locked to my (sold) Nook... There is a Nook for Android app on the web market, but when I go to the Market on my Tab, the app isn't available... I think because Barnes and Noble only sell in the US.
So.. is there maybe a reader that doesn't worry about DRM, or else another plan?
i use 'Aldiko' works with ePub books for me,
also try 'LaPuta' (weird name!) both are on the market, i used both for a while, but deleted 'LaPuta' and only left 'Aldiko'
Thanks.
Tried the 'Aldiko' one, but it asks for a username/password on the DRM file, and I have no idea what u/p that would be. The books were bought from Barnes and Noble, so I tried with my b&n u/p, but no joy - incorrect username/password.
I'd like to try the B&N reader for Android. Problem is, I'm in Australia, and it's blocked from me as it's a US app only. Someone said I can download it somewhere and then 'side load' it? Is this possible? Can it be downloaded somewhere?
Google it, try for exemple "nook apk". Or you can install market enabler and set your phone to access the us android market.

Too much to learn for me!
Located it. Copied the file, using my USB cable, to my 'Downloads' file, and managed to install it (My first install!), and hey presto, my wife is now reading books!
Thanks!
Gonna look at this 'market enabler' thing though! Thanks.
Nice. You don't need to download the file on the pc first, you can download directly on your galaxy tab with the internet browser and install.
I forgot for market enabler you need to be root if I remember correctly.

Thanks again, aibo - I have so much to learn. Coming from an iPhone background... Download and save a file onto my phone?? Crazy!!

Market on Nook STR

I've successfully rooted my Nook STR using all information from here and the video at the-ebook-reader.com on rooting Nook STR. After updating the market, I can even get to search the market.
But there are several apps that I am not able to download because the market informs me that they are not compatible with the STR. How do they come to that conclusion?
And there is a way to download the app anyway, disregarding the android phone/tablet I have? There are several cool free apps that I'd like to try.
Are you sure the apps are compatible with Android 2.1? (The STR is 2.1. Some apps require 2.2, a few require 3.0
And where can I get that information? I searched on the app page in the market and didn't find it. Is this the reason why some apps are blocked for the STR? Android version? If it is, it's good to know.
If you access the Play Store on a regular computer you will see the Android version requirements for each app listed at the end of the app description. If your device is recognized by the Play Store (mine is seen as a "phone") then it will only allow you to download apps that it "knows" are compatible with your device. It can "see" that the NST runs Android 2.1. Even at that, some "compatible" apps simply fail to run on the NST or have limited functionality so it's a bit hit-and-miss. Sometimes you can track down an older version at the author's website (Perfect Viewer is an example) which will work on 2.1. So looking at the Play Store for something you want may not always be an exercise in frustration but you may have to go the extra km to get what you want.

Apps not compatible

Is there a way to install apps that say they are incompatible? I tried installing MAX GO, but it says it's incompatible with my NOOK HD+. HBO GO, basically the same app is compatible.
There are a bunch of other apps, like Optimum Cable app that won't install. The weird thing, I used to be able to at least search for them before 2.10, but now they won't even show up in the Play Store.
I have the latest Extras installed to allow other sources and I reran Rooting after 2.10 upgrade, and have Root access. I also tried "Market Helper" app to spoof the tablet, but it seems to have old tablets in the list, like Kindle and Kindle HD.
Thanks.
Not much you can do other than install from other stores like 1mobile.com or Amazon.com or try getting from another device. Most will run if you can get them to install.

Is there a way to use Kindle Reader without registering with Amazon?

Don't want to get into Amazon pocket, so I don't want to register just installed Playstore and ready to go cz' no root. Anyway, I can copy in the books and read fine if opened from ES explorer, but once got into the Kindle Library, it asked to register.
Is there a way to use it without registering with Amazon? I want the .awz3 reading which I found almost non readers on PlayStore.
You (probably) won't find any awz3 reader on Play because it's Amazon's version of of the mobi ebook format with DRM. There are programs that will, ummm... "convert" awz3.
I wonder how are you going to get awz3 ebooks without an Amazon account, but you seem to already have some.
I believe your best option is to stop using the Kindle Library app altogether and install another eBook reader. Convert those awz3 files and stay away from awz3's proprietary format from then on.
After a long search, I found: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.geometerplus.zlibrary.ui.android
which can read azw books, but the layout seems to change a little. I may need to continue finding more.
