You can't nandroid like that. Depending on what you want to backup, contacts and what applications you installed can be backed up to your Google account, and stuff like application data you can use titanium backup.
Mybackup * Root
Try this if you have root access. Very easy to use. Will backup apps and data (sms/call log/music play lists, ect). Just need to swap SDcards to restore.

Hi,
ok, so I've read a bit, but I want to clarify.
My wife's O2X has poor battery life, starts lagging terribly after few days, reboots sometimes, locks up sometimes, etc.
So I want to try new ROMs. Most of them.
I've already root'ed the phone.
What I would prefer is to keep contacts, messages, sync settings, wifi settings, bookmarks, photos, and, preferably applications along with their data. I know this is much to ask.
For contacts, we sync them to here Google account, so that's somewhat safe.
But for others?
I've read about Titanium backup, that it does wonders. My question, however is, does Titanium backup work only for SAME ROM? E.g., if I flash from stock to CM7 or BD, can I still restore the backup?
Does it backup/restore applications themselves, just the data?
thanks, and sorry if this was stupid.
Hi,
Titanium backup will backup your application with data (if selected).
Restoring apps to other roms should be okay, I did that before.. but I didn't try to restore contacts from one rom to another before. Cm7 is different from stock rom, so im not sure if can restore contacts and messages.
But if you use sprite backup, it can backup and restore from one rom to another without problems. Only that the options are very limited comparing to Titanium backup. It is included with Modaco roms.
Cheers!
titanium backup can restore apps from one rom to an other if the app is compatible. ive done it a lot.
not sure about all messages and such but ive seen some apps on the market that can do it. just search for backup and you get a ton of apps for backing up different stuff.

If you want to backup all what you mention in one motion, a good idea is to perform a clockwork mod backup.
And to use Appextractor in the paid version: it can restore apps + data, wifi settings, messages, and many other things.
The main issue is the size of the backup, as it is a complete and total backup of the all the system, around 700MB for me.
But doing this you have 2 things for the price of one.
Besides that way there is no app that can do all you want in one motion.
About compatibility, backups should be compatible with other ROM except for specific data perhaps.
Hello!
The best available BackUp solution for contacts, SMS, calendar data etc. is MyPhoneExplorer.

Best App for backup of apps is Titanium Backup – as already mentioned.
thank you all very much.
I've got all the info I've needed.
I have a Google Nexus One phone that I joyfully used for 1.5yr. I have a Whatsapp that is linked to a phone number that no longer in service, but I still happen to receive messages from that phone number, now and then.
Now I am moving to Galaxy Tab 7.7 (no forum in here yet), but how do I migrate the old Whatsapp no to the new device witout re-activating it? Is there any backup software that can migrate the whatsapp with all the functionalities/message history without reactivating the phonr? Please help, I'm reallt stucked. thanks a lot.
What is the best backup Android apps without rooting the phone?

I am not too sure on the app itself as I don't use it, but using another app to back it up without root, most likely, isn't possible. Android locks each app to itself to limit security risks.
Whatsapp backs up it's messages every night to your sd card (assuming that option is selected in whatsapp settings) as well as on internal memory. If you download whatsapp to another phone, but use the same sd card in that phone, on launch, it'll ask if you want to restore the messages.
If you have root -use titanium backup and restore on the new phone.
Download Titanium Backup
Backup App+Data
Put SD Card in new device
Restore App+Data. Done.
Hit Thanks if this helped.

Titanium Backup requires root access...
do settings>more>chat history backup. Then look for the whatsapp folder on the sd and move that to the new device and that might work maybe. whatsapp might need the original number to also be verified on the new device which might prevent you from using that backup. You really need root to solve a root problem though.
question, if i get a new number in a new country, will i still be able to get my old life long account back?
Backup chats on sd card -> move to new phone -> install whatsapp -> restore from backup. Or use a 3rd party android whatsapp transfer utility to help.

Hi Guys,
I have flashed my Note for the first time, I've gone for Rocket Rom V21.
all is working fine, however I had to do a wipe for the rom to work, so I'm missing all the text messages, app/settings, and calendar dates.
I do have a backup from yesterday done with CWM.
My question is, how can I apply or retain all of the above on my newly flashed rom?
Thanks
I think that the backup you made is localised to your ROM. So you may be unable to use the backed up data in the new ROM. Or you might have to modify/move somethings. Best of luck

Well I have restored my backup sucessfully just to check it, because people always reccomend having a backup of your working system if you are going to flash new roms.
The backup is functioning perfectly with all my texts and calendar dates in tact.
So I have an opportunity to back up these items, so what would you reccomend to do this?
Should I be using Titanium backup?
Titanium Backup will backup all Apps and Settings. I believe the newer versions of titanium Backup can extract backed up files from nandroid (CWM) backups.
if you wipe then it wipes the internal memory (dont confuse this with the 11gb storage space) you need to back up the messages with an app that will allow you to do this
if you have root then i use mybackup root if you dont have root then there are plenty of apps onthe market that will backup and restore your messages
I suggest you restore the previous ROM; install Titanium Backup and execute a backup of "all user apps + system data"; flash again your favorite ROM, then restore the apps + data you want.

what is the difference between cw backup and titanium backup?
which is better, more safe (for brick issue) , faster ...
what is meant by nandroid backup?
Difference between Nandroid and Titanium backup
I am glad I found this, I have been looking for a thread I could submit a useful post in so that I would be able to see the thank button.
Nandroid backup is the type of backup that CWM does.
i.e. when your phone is rooted you can go into the recovery and one of the options is nandroid backup.
A nandroid backup copies every single byte of data stored in the phone onto your SD card (or wherever) and is an absolute backup of one particular state of your phone.
It is a very powerful tool, you do a nandroid backup before flashing anything and if it all goes wrong the nandroid backup will restore everything back to the way it was before you messed it all up.
(with the Note you need to be careful because the nandroid backup does a wipe and write on restore and that will trigger the hard brick issues with the leaked ICS ROMs that you will no doubt have read about in the stickies.
Titanium backup is a tool that is run from inside the OS and can back up the installation files and app data of all your apps, it will allow you to remove and replace individual apps or batch replace the whole lot.
It can also force the OS not to update certain apps if you want them to run at an older version.
It can sync its backup files to Dropbox or Google drive too.
I guess in a nutshell the differences are these:
Nandroid will only back up a snapshot of the whole phone but does not need a working OS to do it.
Titanium will only work if you can get the phone to boot into android but it can do more specific backups and roll backs.
Let me know if that has answered your question buddy.

Thats incorrect as per my post regarding backup cwm does not take a snapshot of whole phone. One more thing you need to backup seperately is efs. See my thread on that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1606012

guys, im looking for a backup app that backups all my contente, like games and apps.
meanwhile, when you use titanium backup, does it also backup the game data folders where my saved game are, or he just backups my apk? and where dos it bakup all that? on SD card or what? and does it need root, as i dont have it?
Try using Google for questions like that please. They aren't exactly device-specific questions :banghead:
Carbon
I do not know if I understand what you want. however, check whether this application serves you. "CARBON" No root and backup. It's new and it's Playstore.

Titanium Backup can store everything and anywhere. I tried a custom ROM this weekend so I made a complete backup of all my data on my sd card, tried the ROM (I had to delete everything first) and came back to the LG stock ROM and I used Titanium Backup to restore my data. Everything is as before, I did not lose anything (and I have a few games)
but i heard it need root. i dont have it (cant have it), is it true?
I'm not sure that the pro version needs root (that's the only app you should pay for) since I have it. It's not really hard to do. Else i don't know other solutions but Google can definitely help you

Why cant you have root acces ?
