Hello everyone,
I'm debating on upgrading to a Kaiser in the very near future, and I was just looking for suggestions as to where people in the USA have bought their Kaisers. Whenever I do google searches, I find plenty of places that sell them oversees, primarily in the U.K. so my questions is, where are U.S. owners getting their Kaiser's from?
I have T-mobile service, and am not interested in the AT&T Tilt, which is apparently a version of the Kaiser? I'm looking for the full blown version of the Kaiser, with the GPS and whatever other goodies are included.
Thank you for your help,
IIRC, the only difference really between the Tilt and the Kaiser, is that the Kaiser contains a frontside camera.

Uh, the Tilt has the GPS and other "goodies". If you wanna add stuff later or flash a new ROM, go to an at&t store and get one.
well, I would much rather get an actual Kaiser than a Tilt. That's why I was looking for feedback from American users who have Kaiser's and where to get them through American dealers. I would much rather order it nationally, than ordering one from oversees if possible.
try amazon.... thats the only place i can really think of...
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-P4550-II-...sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1202781885&sr=8-1
good luck
They only sell tilts in the U.S. Tilts are greatly cheaper than Tytn IIs. Only place you could get the phone you want in the U.S. is some black market.
Why would you want the Kaiser over the Tilt? You can't make video calls yet here in the states so the front facing cam is the only difference.
Not sure why you feel that you have to have the Kaiser. The only thing I'm missing is the front camera - which is a VGA cam meant for the video phone feature which you cannot use in the US. Played with the Kaiser before I bought the Tilt and decided the extra $500+ wasn't even close to worth it (you can find subsidized Tilts for well under $200 - got mine for $150 after rebate in early November). Obviously your decision to make, but I am not missing out on anything but the higher expense. I flash, I cook, I TomTom, I take pictures and video, I get HSDPA virtually everywhere I go.
Try AT&T Premiere and Egghead/Amazon for Tilt deals to help you compare against the Kaisers you find. FWIW.
ebay
a little surprised that there are about 5 replies and not one mentioned ebay.
wouldn't that give you the most options?
Just type "kaiser -tilt" on ebay which will ensure that no entry with tilt is shown (may also leave out some other kaisers but atleast will get you started). I did a search and 9 came up.
Good luck.
I got my Kaiser from an importer off of ebay. I was a very early adopter so I paid a lot for it, but I too wanted a real HTC Kaiser and not a ATT Tilt.
(you can find subsidized Tilts for well under $200 - got mine for $150 after rebate in early November).

Are you meaning you can find it for $200 with a plan? Because I can't find it unlocked for less than about $350......

You don't need to buy it unlocked already. Those are scams since its free to unlock. Buy a Tilt, come here and unlock it for free. You'll need to read how when you get it. Use search too.

Never had a problem with them.
.
Unless you're particularly averse to signing up for a new 2-year contract with AT&T, you can pick up a Tilt for really cheap.
Just ordered mine today for $54.99 (refurbished, w/ 2-year contract but only for the basic voice plan ~$40, using A&T coupon codes I got off the internet).
I paid $370 (including shipping) for my tilt. Bought from ebay. Then i unlocked and customized, etc.....

Umm there's almost no difference between AT&T TIlt and Kaiser. TIlt has everything (yes, including GPS) but front-side camera (which u dont need in US, frankly).
If I were u, I'd dump T-mobile and switch to AT&T. I got a brand new (not refurb.) Tilt with 2 year contract for $150 USD. Can't beat that. Besides, I get unlimited HSDPA for $20/month (I get around 50-60 KB/sec where I work).
Got the Tilt from ebay shipped for ~$400. I asked my friend to get an unlocked code from ATT so it is free.
i agree with DarkDvr, ditch tmo, and get a tilt from at&t. i got a refurbed one for $150......the second camera is not worth that extra 400-500 imo. besides, if you really wanted that front camera........it may be possible to just plug one in, just like how some ppl were doing it with their 8525, but that all depends if the port is there on the tilt, i havent looked into that yet, so i dont know
Ive been with T-mobile for about 15 yrs.... so I don't want to just ditch tmo.
I don't know why I feel so inclined to buy an actual HTC than the AT&T Tilt... maybe it's a pride thing! Don't want my phone to have at&t all over it ... just HTC
What's up guys.
Well Unfortunately, but fortunately for others, I broke my HTC S710 screen so I am in need of an new cellphone. I am switching forum sections now hahaha.
I was looking to purchase this phone, as I heard with a few tweaks (ROM Flash, registry tweaks), it's phenomenal.
Where could I purchase this phone in Canada (internet or store or wtv). I know in stores, the price will probably be excessive, so I'm looking for stores online where you bought yours from!
Rogers is offer the NAM 3G version @$199 with 3yr contract. Check their web site.
Yea was about to get it, but 199$ is for new customers only...
For me they said if i wanted to get it, 349.99+tx/3yr... screw that
edit: it's all about finding the right person who's willing to do it
Hi,
i have just bought an O2 Stellar (unlocked) from ebay. Until now i have always got my phones direct form the network so a used phone is a first for me. My current device is a Tytn (TM Vario II)
What do i need to do when it arrives in order to get it working with my Tmobile SIM?
I intend on trying some new roms on it after xmas, are there any that favour gps performance? i am hoping to do a bit of geocaching.

Welcome to xda-dev. The first thing you should do as a new person here is to read the wiki for Kaisers (which includes the XDA Stellar, O2s variant), also the sticky posts here. There's lots of info there that'll be helpful. I've never owned a Stellar, just the generic HTC version but I would imagine unless it's already been unlocked by the previous owner, it'll be sim locked to O2 so you may need to unlock it. The simple way to see if this is the case is to try your T-Mobile sim in it. I think it'll depend where you reside as to whether other changes will be required because not all T-Mobile network characteristics are the same and some locations have specialist/uncommon settings.
As far as ROMs with good GPS performance go, the current UK World Wide English Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM has very poor GPS performance here in the UK compared to the original Windows Mobile 6.0 ROM and that seems to be fairly common with many of the WM 6.1 ROMs although different radios teld to make a difference according to reports here. Again it'll depend where you reside.
hi,
the device had better be unlocked.. it is advertised as so! It is claimed it is only 6 months old and came unlocked from the network. I guess being only six months old it will have a 6.1 rom already on it so i'll see how i get on wth that first then think about putting the older rom on it.
i am in UK, East Lothian to be a little more precice.
hi,
i am really struggling to get my phone to work for internet settings for t-mobile.
can anyone tell me the password for tmobile internet or is it user specific?
I just found this FANTASTIC thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388740
anyone needing phone setting should go here!!!
I bought my HD2 from Telstra to use on AT&T. When I received it I couldn't get it to work on AT&T with the factory ROM and had to HSPL/Reflash it. What are the thought on the HD7 from Telstra working with an AT&T sim on the AT&T network? I would really hate to go back to a smaller screen and honestly the surround seems a bit kitchy.
You probably will have to have it sim unlocked. Thats easier than flashing a rom, but with WP7 I don't know.
i want to do the same thing i need an HD7 on at&t
i am on the same page
I am using a telstra hd2 on us att 3g, i switch between wm 6.5.x and android 2.2 desire rom, i've been using android a lot more lately, because i got tired of squeezing functionality out of winmo when its already there with android (tired of second rate facebook, foursquare apps etc ), alas i really want WP7 to succeed and will be there to support it, but i do not want to downgrade to a smaller device to stay on at&t, I have a cheap unlimited data plan (at&t thinks im using a
little nokia phone for data), the A list where i use my google voice for calls and have accrued over 3,000 roll over minutes,so it looks like ill be forking over $800 bucks again for a telstra hd7 if that's the case, i imagine though when i sell my unlocked hd2 running on att 3g network with dual operating systems i may get a decent penny on ebay to contribute towards the telstra hd7 purchase
and also has anyone else using this phone have found little support for those running android on it or anything else? sometimes i feel like im the only guy in the united states with a telstra hd2 and everyone else is using the tmo usa one, all the forums talk about the euro hd2 and the tmo usa one
im in the same boat, but with Bell in canada..i use the Telstra HD2 and from the looks of things were just getting the LG with the keyboard and a 3.5in screen..looks awful. im hoping the same with the HD7, just a matter of whether they can be sim unlocked. ill be keeping my eye on it and hoping for the best anyway.
Is it telstra even getting the hd7?
Seems like Telstra will be getting the HD7 exclusively in 2011 similar to what happened with the HD2.
Launch availability will be T-Mobile(US) O2(England/Germany) and SingTel(Singapore) none of which support UMTS/HSDPA 850.
Strange because according to these guys the HD7 will be coming to Telstra in November: http://smarthouse.com.au/Phones/Mobile/X6L9N4K3
And for those of us that bought the Telstra HD2 we may recall the device came factory unlocked. Great for me as I'm using it on Telus in Toronto, Canada.
I looked at our launch line up here as well and our choices are pretty weak. I've read someone confirmed the Dell Venue Pro will work for us on the North American bands. That's my second choice.
But I think the HD7 from Telstra will be good to go. Except we'll be stuck with a Telstra Hub until someone figures out how to flash new roms lol..

You can uninstall the operator's hub, it'll just come back at each hard reset
front facing camera?
is it possible to find someone who can install a front facing camera as well? I would pay who ever could do it, it can be done with the samsung vibrant, it is really disappointing there is no ffc installed
and now im worried once i import the hd7 from telstra will there be roms that i can use to remove the telstra hub and skins? I doubt a hard reset will remove this, we are all venturing into new ground here indeed
there are no skins, and the carrier apps can be uninstalled

According to this article "Unfortunately the elusive HTC HD7 is not available at launch. It’s officially slated to be available exclusively through Telstra next year in 2011. You would be wise to bet the first half of the year."
I honestly believe it will be worth the wait.
Were you able to use your Telstra HD2 on AT&T straight out of the box? I ask this because I could not. It was indeed sim unlocked, but didn't work for me. Granted I only tested it once and then HSPL/Flash to NRG.

When you say "uninstall" I assume then you mean just remove their hub from the homescreen without actually uninstalling their software.

Odd that on the same day 2 different stories would be printed. One saying it's available next month, the other saying next year. Guess we'll know for sure by November if it doesn't actually arrive.
For me personally it worked on the Telus network right out of the box, even before I HSPL'd it. The only hassle was setting up the data and mms manually. But later I found a few custom roms that did that for me.
Review of the HD7 PCWorld AU
"This Telstra-exclusive Windows Phone 7 smartphone will launch in Australia in January 2011."
Anyone have a time machine?
The UK carrier O2 is also adding the HD7 to their line up for Oct. and has quad band GSM:
http://www.3g.co.uk/PR/Oct2010/o2-add-htc-hd7-windows-phone-7-smartphone.html
Based on my previous knowledge of quad band phones it should support the more popular 850/900/1800/1900 bands.. that being said can someone with more knowledge than myself confirm whether this would work similarly to the Telstra version?

Actually flashing a ROM won't work. You can't unlock the SIM by flashing another ROM, you have to get the unlock code regardless.
Most carriers do it for free or you can find a site online that will do it for a charge.
The OS does not effect SIM UNLOCKING so I do not see any change with WP7

GSM (2G) is 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS/HSDPA (3G) is more than likely 900/2100 where AT&T is 850/1900

Do you know any reliable and trusted website? I don't mind paying I just want to be sure the site can do it.
Was looking around on Tab prices yesterday.
Ebay...350.00 upwards etc....
Telstra.com are offering them outright for AU 299.00 but are locked to telstra network.
Rang Harvey Norman this morning, and they matched the 299.00 price tag.
The Galaxy Tabs they sell are also SIM Un-Locked.
So, im now the proud owner of a Galaxy Tab.
Just thought id post this info for any other fellow aussies who are looking for a new tab, at a great price.
Harvey norman will continue to match the 299.00 price.
LOL the Telstra TABS ($299) are NOT locked to Telstra. Not sure where you got that info from.

From the Sales representative i was speaking to on the phone yesterday.
Wouldnt surprise me though if the info is wrong, havent spoken to too many telstra reps that really know their job anyway.
I have a telstra tab and its definetly not locked, ive used a optus sim in it, but damn $299 i may go pick one up today
Well, im glad they arent locked. Was just passing on the info i knew, so that it may benefit others.
I actually went in to the telstra shop this morning with intention to get one, but they had no stock, and werent sure when new stock would arrive
When Harvey Norman told me they would match the price, i was stoked.
Considering they have the Tab on display for $589.00, it does pay to ask the question.
I saved good money, and got a great buy i think.
Just out of interest, are the Harvey Norman Tabs the Telstra branded P1000T ones? or the standard P1000?
On the box, mine says GT-P1000
ok thanks so that's the non-telstra one. it's suitable for those who never plan on using Telstra Next G.
Personally I'd rather go with the Telstra model for 2 reasons.
a) Option of using Next G if I wanted to
b) Vodafone will be 'soon' rolling out their network on the same 850 band.
Downside - If you're currently with anyone but Telstra you won't get a connection is rural areas.

Moral of the story if you don't plan on using your pad in the 'bush' it's best to buy the Telstra model.
it is definitely $299 and unlocked. This deal start from last week on Telstra ONLINE OFFER ONLY and Telstra start the deal instore from this week.
It is very fast sell as the prices drop from $408 and for anyone who missed this deal (so many out of stock) you can grab one in JB HIFI, they also sell it for $299, not sure with Hardly Normal, opss i mean harvey norman
I got mine from harvey....and i have no problem plopping a optus sim in and getting next G lol.
Yes telstra probably are the best to be with....but boy...dont ya pay for that.
I used to use telstra...but got sick and tired of paying the most and getting nothing in return.....optus looks after me, and i dont have any problems connecting anywhere.
Cool thanks for the info guys. I picked up a telstra branded tab today also and I have noticed that the wifi tethering is not enabled nor can i directly setup my hotmail account.
I have a HTC HD2 telstra version that I have played with many versions of android, unfortunatly the usb charging connection on that device is broken and I think it may be a while befor I'll be able to track down the part I need to repair it.
Anyway been playing with the new toy (samsung galaxy tab) since this morning and it's a rather cool device.
I'm with Telstra as I often find myself in real crap hole places for work where the only reception if any is telstra.
Once i figure out how to root this device and flash a standard no brand rom I will as Telstra have loaded up this device with all there own bloatware that is mostly useless.
I just used z4root 1.3 to root mine mate.
Also, i installed clockworkmod and chose the [email protected] recovery rom if thats any help.
