Tried searching..
My rooted NC has been working perfectly. I have downloaded lots of apps. Now when I am on the market everything seems fine but files will not download. It just sits there on "starting download". The only thing I can think of is I used Titanium backup to "wipe data" on the market app...I am a noob, was that dumb?? I thought that might clear my market search history that keeps adding up. Any thoughts?
mine does that once in a while. i just reboot the nook and it starts again
I have re-booted a few times...no luck.
I had that symptom after I deleted Google Talk. I just re-auto-nootered & all was fixed. Nothing was disturbed. I never heard any feedback on whether or not that was a viable restore method, but it worked for me by restoring the missing files. If I were you, though, I would wait for someone else to chime in & give some guidance.
Cheers,
kev
now that I think about it my Gmail has not been working either. I am not getting notifications of new mail. When I launch Gmail and hit refresh it will get my mail, but not automatically like it used to....must some google account issue????
make sure you log into Google talk which should fix the issue.
My experience also supports the need to be signed into Google Talk in order to download from the Market.

I may have logged into google talk when I first rooted...but I have not touched that app since. I tried to launch it and it kicks me back to my home screen right away. Tried a reboot..same thing.
re-rooted, problem solved.
I rooted my Nook Last night, everything seemed to work fine as well. now( about an hour ago) the Marketplace stopped downloading.
Is re-rooting the only answer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Hope this isn't already covered somewhere on the forums, I've had a search but couldn't see anything. I've noticed since the last couple of Cyan updates that my gmail app doesn't seem to be working correctly. if i read a mail on my phone it's not marked as read on the web version and the number of unread mails still includes these on the phone. eg if i get three new mails and read them all on my phone, wait a while and get one more message, the app shows 4 unread mails in the statusd bar but only one in the app itself. if i look in the web version of gmail, all 4 are marked as unread. not exactly earth shattering, but a bit annoying.
the more serious problem is that i can't seem to send emails from my phone anymore. as soon as i hit send (either new mail of reply) it just sits there saying 'sending...' until i get bored and delete it 3 days later. the messages definitely don't get sent as i've tried tesating to myself.
Had a look arou nd the internet and I've seen people with mails showing as 'sending...' but actually being sent. that i could cope with, but this is beginning to get on my wick. I've had to temporarily more to the normal email app - works fine from there, but gmail is much nicer.
any ideas?
FYI I'm on a UK Vodafone HTC Magic 32B running Cyanogen 4.2.5 - last resort is going to be a full wipe and install from the ground up, but I don't want to have to re-download all my apps (not on SD as I've only got a class 2 16gb)
Well if you dont wanna do a full wipe, which would be required for the the other solution found, you can flash my theme template over here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584521
which replaces the google apps, which should hopefully fix it
please make a nandroid backup before flashing just in case
thanks mate, i'll give it a whirl.
Tell us if it works! I hope it does lol
hmm... weirdly it just made it worse
tried a few reboots to make sure i wasn't going nuts, but since the update gmail won't even open. no FC or anything the screen fades out in the groovy eclair way and then goes straight back to the desktop. thought it might be something to do with not being sync'd (which i think it might be) but the sync menu iten does nothing. click on it and it doesn't drop to the sub-menu.
just restoring my backup now. thanks for the help though - any other ideas?
think a fix_permissions might help after flashing your template? completely forgot to have a go. the lack of error messages or FCs makes me think it probably won't
No if it didnt work dont reflash it. can you pull a logcat after attempting to send an email? i have a feeling its due to not resolving google.com as ive seen in many logcats.
hmm. tried again with a fix permissions and the same problem again. maybe chucking it out of a window will help... bloomin' technology...
thanks, i'll try a logcat later on (work pc at the mo, so can't track it from there)
well I've solved it in a more or less painless way. used backup for root users, wiped and installed 4.2.5 from scratch and restored my backup. gmail is now working properly. there seems to be a bit of an issue with backup for root users where some apps are showing as installed on the market but aren't on my handset, so i can't actually install them again (uninstall and open are both greyed out on the market app). only a couple of them though and nothing as vital as gmail, so i'll put up with it i think
Yes that was the actual solution, reflashing the ADP image and cyan. Using backup for root users is good and that market problem has been there for a while relating to cyans rom. I dont remember seeing a solution for it. I just realized that you may have been able to just restore your data.img from your nandroid after reflashing ADP and cyan and been able to preserve your data.
thanks. might give that a go tonight. as it is, it's only taskiller full, bump and bloo that I'm missing, so i've installed taskiller lite, blabber and ignored bump. ity seems whenever they get an update in the market it reinstalls correctly (that's how i got my calendar back), so i'm just waiting for them to get updated. was thinking about pulling the apks out of my nandroid image and then intalling them into the corrected version.
I post this thread because out seems no has yet to acknowledge this problem with the market.it seem in the market display paid app icon doesn't display neither dose the paid apps.

1) You have posted in the wrong forum.
2) Market works fine in 2.2 unless you flashed one of the pre-release builds.

I'm having the same, or very similar problems. Basically, I'm seeing paid apps, and my purchases, but I'm not seeing the "Top Paid" tab, nor is the Market acting in any sane or rational way. For example, I install an app, and the notification bar will say downloading, then installing, then the notification that it installed. In the Market download window, though, I see it download, then switch to installing, but never get beyond that.
What started all this with me was this. Using Linda File Manager, I uninstalled a couple of apps (was trying out the feature since I was in there). In this case, it was Google Earth (don't really use it), and a Pirate game that I never grocked. Anyway, in the Market they wouldn't leave my list in the Downloads, so I wiped the cache and data in the Market app in Settings > Applications > Manage Applications.
After that, all my apps appeared as uninstalled in the downloads window, and the issue with installation started. First thing I did was try and reinstall all the apps, and ended up with a huge list of apps that were installed, but were marked as still installing by the market. Killing the market app cleared out the hung install progress bars. The other thing that started happening was that not all of my installed apps appeared in my download list. KO Boxing, for example was on the featured list as upgradable, but it wasn't in my download list to upgrade.
Ultimately, what I decided to do was wipe the phone and see what happened. After wipe, I logged in and FRF91 didn't restore my apps like it had in the past. In fact, the market was exactly the same as it was before the wipe, with all my apps showing as free or purchased. Installing issue was also the same. Now, I know that Google backs up the settings, so I thought maybe that had something to do with it. I wiped again, but in the configuration process post-wipe, I selected for Google to not restore from backup (hit menu in the setup when you are entering your username/password). This brought me through the process much quicker, but with no change in the market function.
So, I'm still without a "Top Paid" tab, nor with a all together sane Download window. It's frustrating the heck out of me, and I'm about to go back to whatever the 2.1-r1 release was (ERE27?) and see if that makes any different.
The ROM I'm running is the FRF91 full release from lox_dev:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715799
If T-Mobile is doing the OTA's to FroYo from 2.1-r1, then maybe I'll let it do it's own thing today and then see if that fixes it. Ugh.
Adam.

The above snipped sections are my story too.
Updated last week manually from ERE27 to FRF85b to FRF91 using the official stock clients each time. Non rooted N1. I spent 6 hours on Friday night trying to sort this..
I've got posts up on the Google Nexus One forums also and am holding where I am for a definitive fix. It's very frustrating though..
Go to menu>applications> magage applications> all apps> market then force quit and clear data and whatever else is in there.

I tried that on Friday night. Once I'd done that, none of my installed apps showed in the Downloads section.
That's why I did a full wipe and set the phone back up. Luckily I was still able to find all my apps, including the purchased ones. However the missing 'Top Paid' button and slow market performance persisted.
So, for fun, I pushed back to ERE27 (2.1-r1) and same issue. No "Top Paid" in the Market, and issues with installation. This is complete wipe, nothing installed on the phone after imaging.
I let it upgrade to FRF91, which didn't change anything. I'm now pretty convinced that whatever this is is completely account related on the Google server side of things, and it needs to be sorted out by them
Guess I'll have to figure out who to contact for support from Google :/

I'm working the Google angle also plus have posts on several forums and watches on more.
Please can you keep this thread updated with your progress and I'll do the same.

I've made contact with Google via email and this is now being investigated.
I'm sending them a summary of the problems I've been having and pointing them at various threads both here and in the Market so that they can see how widespread this problem is.
I've also tried a full hard reset and cache wipe without luck. My belief is that this is something that Google need to sort server-side, so I'm done with my wiping and reinstalling for now...

Looks like this has now been fixed server-side.
I got my 'Top Paid' tab back this morning - Yay!
So I had a few apps get the infinite Installing Android Market bug thanks to a wireless router dying at a bad time. The only thing that worked short of doing a factory reset was to uninstall the market update.
So my question is how do I get the Market update to reinstall?
Thanks
(Not rooted, stock ROM)
Uninstall application, then reinstall. Just a hunch.

Were it only so simple. The 2.2 market enchancements were a silent upgrade, so there's no market link. And beyond that, the Market no long appears up on the manage Applications list in the system settings.
I've been having the same issues as well, very frustrating! I've been searching here and good ol' google on how to get that update back...to no avail yet.
Did you ever get any success?
Pulled this. See if it works for you.
Thanks
Trying to side load it now, but I can't seem to get droid explorer to work. sigh.....
It connects to the phone fine, but then when I go to install the package, it gives me a new window that wants to install something. I don't really remember that window coming up in the past, but to be honest it's been quite awhile since I've used droidexplorer... So I click isntall, and the program immediately crashes.
So, I put the file on my web server, and downloaded it from there. (Got some annoying lovely messages about the phone being out of space until I cleared the browser download list....) It downloaded fine, but when I go to install it, I get "Parse Error There is a problem parsing the package."
On an odd hunch, I started poking around the file structure in DroidExplorer, and was able to pull my own MarketUpdater.apk out and save it to the computer. So I threw that on the webserver, and was able to download it fine, AND re-install it. No idea if that will actually DO anything, but hey, figured it was worth a shot.
So now that I've waited 15 minutes after reinstalling the marketupdater.apk, (big surprise) nothing's changed.
EDIT:
Went to grab a sandwich for lunch, and decided to pop into the ATT store since it was right next to where I was eating. Asked one of the reps that I have a pretty good relationship with about the issue, and he said a customer came in not too long ago with the same issue, and the only resolution was a system wipe. Hopefully we can get around it...Of course, if not, and I do have to do a wipe, I'll just upgrade to 2.2....
When I open the Gmail app and manually refresh, the app closes. If I switch to a label that's not my inbox, then refresh, Gmail will take me back to my inbox and properly refresh it. Also, Gmail won't get mail in the background. I suspect this is because of the crash issue.
Here's a logcat dump from when I force a crash, by trying to refresh my inbox: http://pastebin.com/C7AWUs6Z
Any suggestions for resolving this? I'd like my Nook to automatically fetch mail, and to not have to play games when refreshing manually.
Same problem
I am having the same problem. Also, my gmail won't sync automatically.
I had same issues but now GMail works
In Titanium Backup I "Wiped data" and then reopened GMail now it works fine: auto updates, no FCs, etc.
Good luck m8s!
spiffytech & marcusau2,
What are you running on your NC? 1.0.1? 1.1?
If 1.1, did you use Autonooter 3.0 or Decad3nce v1.1 ROM?

I can confirm this solution: Run Titanium Backup, select "Gmail 1.3" and "Gmail Storate 2.1-update1" and "Wipe data" for each. Now Gmail doesn't crash when I hit "Refresh".
Does this require me to do a clockwork recovery?

No, fixed the problem without the use of CWR.
I meant to say, I used the auto booted method vs the rom. To fix gmail do i have to use clocwork recovery?

I don't think so. I can only speak for my case, but I expect you can perform the steps I outlined above on your auto-nooted NC and fix the issue.
That solution didn't work for me. I saw in a thread someone mentioned something about adding your google account through youtube or something.

This method worked for me for a little while. Then Gmail started acting up on me again, I think after a reboot. I hope you have better luck than me.
I was going to suggest running fix permissions from Clockwork because that seemed to work for me between now and my last post. But that too has turned out to be temporary fix.
I'm going to try wiping clean and see if the problem goes away on a fresh install.

You wouldn't be able to use Clockwork anyways since you used Autonooter method. I've seen posts that installing Clockwork causes a boot loop that makes your NOOKcolor always boot into Clockwork.
But it's weird you're having problems with the Gmail app. I don't remember seeing issues with Gmail with Autonooter 3.0 while I was looking into using it. However, not being able to use Clockwork was a deal breaker for me to not use Autonooter 3.0.
titanium backup wipe
though it's a bit too early to tell whether this problem will resurface, wiping both the gmail and storage seemed to solve my problem.
i'm running autonooter with the 1.1 update and can't figure out why gmail would just start flaking out for no reason when it has been working just fine
hopefully, this isn't a recurring issue
raze
I'm having the same issue as well, running NC 1.1, Autonooter 3.0.
For me I can try to sync it and it doesn't crash, but it doesn't sync either, it just sits there. It DOES crash if I try to archive a message in my inbox. (But if I apply a label to the message and then archive it, it works. Go figure.)
I've been able to sync using the Titanium Backup data wipe method (followed by a reboot in most cases), but it has persistently flaked out again for no apparent reason. Sometimes it would work for a few hours before flaking, or sometimes it would flake again almost immediately. I have literally no idea what's causing it.
I really hope somebody figures this issue out. I'm running out of ideas of things to try...
Ditto 1.1 Autonooter 3.
the android email app works perfectly.
Gmail, not so good. Did the "add account" thing where I re-added my existing account to gmail and calendar started working perfectly But not gmail.
Wiped using Titanium but it still stalls.
However, if I go to labels in gmail and select "ALL" it'll sync. And it'll stick, after a few minutes. But this manual sync is the only way I've found to have it work.
I have been having this problem recently also. Gmail and everything worked at first, for maybe about a day and then it stopped syncing. I tried clearing the data using Titanium but now it just crashes every time I try to open it. Presumably because it is trying to sync upon opening. Not sure how to fix this now.
As a side note, since doing this it seems that the Youtube app is crashing upon opening now also.
I ended up switching to the K9 email app which has more options than the gmail app. I still wish I could get gmail to work out of principle, but this has solved my problem.
I don't think it has anything to do with using latest autonooter as I used the prior method to get 1.1 and I have the same problem. Common seems to be 1.1.
Oddly enough the Gmail app started working again for me yesterday with no changes in between. Then tried it again today and it was no longer working. Tried again to wipe the data using Titanium and nothing happened.
I did learn yesterday though that the Gmail app was able to connect to the Gogo in-flight wifi even without paying for a connection. None of the other apps were able to connect.
so it's been a while since I've been on the XDA forums from my windows mobile days. Just bought and rooted my Nook and I've made my return to the forum.
So my problem is that I can't get marketplace downloads to work. I rooted my Nook Color (1.1.0) with Autonooter 3. Everything went exactly as it should, synced my youtube and gmail and gtalk. I've been able to download and install apk's from the internet and have the amazon marketplace that will download and install apps. I've tried everything from resetting the caches from gmail, gtalk, youtube, marketplace, like everyone has suggested in other threads. I've installed titanium backup and did the data wipe on the various apps, I've tried signing in/out of my gmail in the browser. I can't seem to get the marketplace to download.
any thoughts?
when i first rooted, my nook did this as well, i just rebooted and it worked, try to reboot once or twice to see if it works.
Strange as it sounds you need to be logged in to Google Talk for the market apps to download. Also, if you keep the stock launcher you won't see the apps in the Extras until you do a full reboot, but you can launch them from the notification bar.
Try unmounting your SD card...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
unfortunately, all of these have already been attempted and failed.
as a side note, my gtalk just stopped working, crashes when I try to open it, even after a data wipe (titanium) and reboot.
I had the market working, until I changed the order of the accounts ( I have now primary a google apps and secondary a gmail account) When it worked was inverted in the order. I went the manual way to delete the account that appears in the nookdev wiki.
I suspect this is the cause. Now I'm tryng to keep the calendar sync with the google apps account and get the marketplace to download anyting.
Do you have the same situation?
Somebody with a clue to get this work?
I'll keep investigating. I'll post solution if I find it.
Cheers.

I had the same problem but I finally found an answer from someone on a different site. Turn your Nook off, put the SD card back into the slot, hook the USB cable back up and plug it into your computer (not sure if this step was necessary but it worked so I'm leaving it in), then unplug everything, remove the card and restart.
Hope this helps!
