So I put up a thread a week or 2 ago requesting android app ideas and at first it seemed that games were in demand, so I started working on a simple game...
NoLitez is a simple game that take inspiration from the old simple handheld video game "Lights Out", (wikipedia link)
basically the idea of the game is that all spaces in the gird can either be turned on or off... the goal is to get all of the lights off. When you touch a light, you toggle the state of that light and the 4 lights immediately north, south, east and west of the light
I ran the apk using the latest android for titan build and it worked as I would expect.
So now I am curious if any G1 owners want to be a beta tester for me and tell me if this apk even works for them, and if so what they think of the game.
I only have very basic features implemented, and only the first 5 levels...
This would count as my first android application so please go easy on the criticism, but I am open to hearing all things good and bad

Nice. Clean interface and classic gameplay. I remember when they advertised these things on television in the '90s.
On a side note, how's Android running on TyTN? There's not a week goes by that there isn't a new device Android is running on, but it seems that most of the devices still need some spit polish.

well I have a Titan rather than a TyTN (PPC6800, CDMA device, aka Sprint Mogul vs P4500 GSM aka AT&T 8525 here in the states) [but they do seem to be named the same]... and I have to say that android doesn't run too well on it, I have been able to get android up and running on it since July thanks to dzo's vogue releases but even with the latest editions the touchscreen doesn't work quite right and the button mappings aren't very intuitive to me... maybe I just need to give it more than 5 minutes, but my plan is to buy a Android Dev 1 or some unannounced 2009 android phone so I shouldn't have to rely on testing on an unsupported QVGA device... but I just got laid off last Friday, so it could be a while until I have a proper android device to develop with

Works like a charm, no bugs at all and a pretty fun game! Do you mind if i throw it in my g1 files in my sig?

I am glad that you are enjoying it, it is not a problem to put the apk up in your directory, I have a few more things that I want to do before I make a proper release in the android market, but I have a few questions and I am not sure if this is the proper place to ask them
1.) Does this application behave as you would expect it to as far as saving and restoring its state? Like if you get a phone call or have to leave the app for some reason when you restore the app does it save the lights on/lights off state? Does it at least behave as you would expect it to when compared to other G1 apps?
2.) I am not fully sure if this application would be allowed in the market because Tiger electronics has the "Lights Out" game patented... does anyone know if any other game "clones" exist on the market like say a tetris clone?

wow... you are correct, this exact same game already exists for android and I had no idea. Looks like I am going to abandon development unless someone thinks it is good to have diversity in the market, since I don't have a G1 there really is no way for me to test to see the differences that may exist...
I enjoyed putting this together, but I wish there was some way to browse the titles available on the market other than directly from a G1, that way I would have known to work on something different. (and after a quick search my second game that I was planning on making "4NARow" (a connect 4 clone) is already on the market too...
maybe if I pay the $25 and register as an android developer I can see the different apps available in the market?

Ok i`ll go first then! Even though i`m new to Android also....
1 Power Manager, something ive always wanted on a phone, especially when you have phones that can go flat in one day of use. Allows you to set it so that when your battery is getting low it`ll turn of wifi 3g etc.
2 Beyondpod the best RSS feeder.
3 Copilot live 8 the only sat nav for it as yet.
4 Bluex not tried it yet to be honest but you need it for sending files.
5 Netcounter for all of you on capped data packages. monitors how much is used.
6 Shazam obvious really!
7 beebPlayer A quality iplayer style app watch live bbc channels too.
8 Task manager does what you think it does!
There are many other apps that i have some ive not even tried yet. Some worth a mention are: YouTube downloader, XGalaga, Tunewiki, snapPhoto, last.fm, imeem mobile, locale, compass, and barcode scanner.
Feel free to ask me any questions on any i love to help....

Agree with Co-pilot above - wouldn't have bought it without proper sat nav program.
Not essential but useful - Toggle Settings and Tone Picker.

My Hero came with the pre-latitude Google Maps - needed an upgrade!

Last.fm - until spotify is released
OpenSudoku (Best one by quite a margin)
ShopSavvy - Barcode price comparison that works in the UK and gives you local results as well as web ones
Google Voice Search - Works surprisingly well
Doom!!!!
ScummVM - Has issues but you simply can't beat playing Monkey Island on the phone.
beebPlayer - Works OTA on T-Mobile, including live channels

Barcode scanner is free from the marketplace, it works really well.

Ive got some - had an android Handset as my main phone for 6 months and I adore it - currently have a Google Ion dev version of magic.
PicSay (and Picsay Pro) - Ive got the pro version - takes pics from camera or gallery and really easily adds speech bubbles, clipart, doodles, colourise, warp, captions etc then allows you to send via mms, mail, to twitter, picassa, facebook.
AK Notepad - very simple, easy to use and very robust. can back up to SD.
Twidroid and Babbler - might be redundant on Hero but great twitter and facebook apps.
Bettercut - allows you to add shortcuts for allsorts of stuff, and to edit any shortcut on your desktop to show your own icons.
UK TVguide - free version has a pop up on start and an add strip at bottom but small and simple to use
Wallpaper Set And Save - lets you use .pngs for crisper images
Jewellust - brilliant bejewelled clone a bit like Jewel Quest...
BookmarkBR - Backup to SD and restore your bookmarks from and to the android browser - great for when you eventually start wiping a lot and loading roms etc...
G-Backup - backs up SMS and MMS and a few other things to folders on gmail server. Auto back up is brilliant again if you wipe and change roms a lot you never lose a message.
Root Explorer - for when hero gets root - lets you go anywhere and options to toggle r/w and r/o in each folder, to copy paste and move stuff - dangerous in the wrong hands obviously...
Beebplayer is great, as is an app called Television, lets you download and run videocasts mostly from US but grand

there is no real msn...but i have meebo IM and and that works fine for me

I am trying out Hi MSN. Seems ok to me. I dont use it much though, I prefer to be logged in on my PC.

The apps i use most are Hi MSN, ScummVM + Monkey Island , and couple other games. Co pilot live and Astro file manager, remote VNC, and Meridian (the best media player)

am i missing something? what do you guys use the barcode scanner for?

Hey, do you know how to make abul arts to show on Hero?
I have tried the folder.jpg image on the same folder but its not working...

Hi Liam,
I've been on Windows mobile for years and have crossed over to android and got a htc hero. I'm very impressed with android and wish I'd crossed over sooner.
One thing I really miss is microsoft voice command on my old wm device.
Do you know if there is a similar app for the android os? There are voice dialers on android market but they dont seem to cut it for me.
Can you help please?

you can scan a item......then check it online for the best price to buy
its very cool.....IMO

it was just added to the market, its a bit slow but its still way cool to see this on android!

Wow. That is quite impressive looking for a first release from a relatively unknown developer. I can't say the controls will be particularly good, but the technical merit of shoehorning a full 3D mmorpg onto Android (or any mobile device) is quite high.

its actually not that hard to control. it controls like runescape with touchscreen or trackball for mouse
tap screen to left click
press trackball for right click
drag the screen to rotate view
its pretty damn good xD
cant really play it off the plug though itll pee through battery

3D hardware and Froyo

I recently tried to run the navigation app called Aura. It is a Sygic product, and developed for mostly look'n'feel navigation (and has working pedestrian navigation, what I use a lot), with great 3D views, etc.
But when I try to run it, the app closes with a message "This device has no 3D hardware what is required for running Aura". But as far as I know, the G1 has a great 3D graphics unit (at least it was pretty good two years ago, but still a decent one), why the app can't see it? Maybe it has to do something with the live wallpaper fix, what adds the drivers? But if I apply that, Angry Birds won't work anymore :S
Anyone idea?

um what rom you running im going to say it's the rom egl are the 3D drivers as far as I am aware lol

Yep, egl is the driver, but the LWP fix adds some files what makes the hardware accessible
I am on the always latest best CyanogenMod nightly, currently on 237!

um think that just copies or patches the egl lib files lol well thats how what the lwp's do on two roms I have here apart from that not sure of the other way so the other patching way coudl do it lol you tried fr's lwp patch see if that helps at all? 0o

4. While Installing games, sometimes Deployment error may show an error ( like error occured not on socket something like that), don't worry, your game will be in XboX Live in your Collection.
IF U GET revoked by microsoft please uninstall MESSAGE, IT MEANS THAT YOUR PHONE IS LOCKED AGAIN, SIMPLY UNLOCK IT AGAIN USING CHEVRONWP7 AND THE APPS WILL WORK AGAIN JUST FINE.

Hm, I was under the impression that you wouldn't be able to connect to Xbox Live without activating your phone - and if it's activated you can download Extras from the market anyway, making it a fairly useless application to upload as a .xap. If that's not the case, easy fix.

I keep getting a connection problem when I try to stream Netflix movies. Does anyone else have this issue? Do I have to make my leo70 read as a hd7? It says...

I tried home wifi & a pizza bar wifi still no luck. My music & video player is showing a music pic of a artist I browsed. I can't get rid of it. Idk if netflix thinks im still running the zune player or marketplace or what....

jus download and install this little program and download all free apps and games from the marketplace...jus click download all...mind u it's about 2.9gb's of free stuff...took me about 30mins on a 4mbps connection...all apps will be downloaded to the folder that u extract the contents of the software to...nejoy!

good work! and by the way, not like it's a big prob, but IPcameraviwer is missing the 'ht' from 'http', and the browser will act as if it can't recognise the protocol!
