I recently tried to run the navigation app called Aura. It is a Sygic product, and developed for mostly look'n'feel navigation (and has working pedestrian navigation, what I use a lot), with great 3D views, etc.
But when I try to run it, the app closes with a message "This device has no 3D hardware what is required for running Aura". But as far as I know, the G1 has a great 3D graphics unit (at least it was pretty good two years ago, but still a decent one), why the app can't see it? Maybe it has to do something with the live wallpaper fix, what adds the drivers? But if I apply that, Angry Birds won't work anymore :S
Anyone idea?

um what rom you running im going to say it's the rom egl are the 3D drivers as far as I am aware lol
Yep, egl is the driver, but the LWP fix adds some files what makes the hardware accessible
I am on the always latest best CyanogenMod nightly, currently on 237!

so I decided not to abandon development, competition is a good thing, right? and I am going to update the first post with a new build... in this new build there are a lot of improvements
- all 50 levels from the classic lights out, before it only had the first 5
- after level 50 new levels are randomly generated... I believe there are more than 8000 solvable
- added a hint engine... press the menu key and select the "Show Hints" and you will see a small red dot on the keys that you need to press in order to complete the puzzle, updates in real time, you can turn off this feature if you want by going back to the menu and selecting "Hide Hints"
- the state of the application is saved across instances... this way you can continue a game even if you restart your phone
any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
My main question is this: Does this app feel the like it is the sae quality as other apps on the Market? Or does it seem cheap and too simple?

(mods: if this is not the correct forum to post development of an android app please feel free to move the post or tell me where to move it to)
So I put up a thread a week or 2 ago requesting android app ideas and at first it seemed that games were in demand, so I started working on a simple game...
NoLitez is a simple game that take inspiration from the old simple handheld video game "Lights Out", (wikipedia link)
basically the idea of the game is that all spaces in the gird can either be turned on or off... the goal is to get all of the lights off. When you touch a light, you toggle the state of that light and the 4 lights immediately north, south, east and west of the light
I ran the apk using the latest android for titan build and it worked as I would expect.
So now I am curious if any G1 owners want to be a beta tester for me and tell me if this apk even works for them, and if so what they think of the game.
I only have very basic features implemented, and only the first 5 levels...
This would count as my first android application so please go easy on the criticism, but I am open to hearing all things good and bad
thanks for any feedback
i tried it out, good game. No crashes or hangs, works as described

Nice. Clean interface and classic gameplay. I remember when they advertised these things on television in the '90s.
On a side note, how's Android running on TyTN? There's not a week goes by that there isn't a new device Android is running on, but it seems that most of the devices still need some spit polish.

well I have a Titan rather than a TyTN (PPC6800, CDMA device, aka Sprint Mogul vs P4500 GSM aka AT&T 8525 here in the states) [but they do seem to be named the same]... and I have to say that android doesn't run too well on it, I have been able to get android up and running on it since July thanks to dzo's vogue releases but even with the latest editions the touchscreen doesn't work quite right and the button mappings aren't very intuitive to me... maybe I just need to give it more than 5 minutes, but my plan is to buy a Android Dev 1 or some unannounced 2009 android phone so I shouldn't have to rely on testing on an unsupported QVGA device... but I just got laid off last Friday, so it could be a while until I have a proper android device to develop with

I am glad that you are enjoying it, it is not a problem to put the apk up in your directory, I have a few more things that I want to do before I make a proper release in the android market, but I have a few questions and I am not sure if this is the proper place to ask them
1.) Does this application behave as you would expect it to as far as saving and restoring its state? Like if you get a phone call or have to leave the app for some reason when you restore the app does it save the lights on/lights off state? Does it at least behave as you would expect it to when compared to other G1 apps?
2.) I am not fully sure if this application would be allowed in the market because Tiger electronics has the "Lights Out" game patented... does anyone know if any other game "clones" exist on the market like say a tetris clone?
thanks again for the feedback
There's an app on the Market called 'Lights Out" already...? Seems to be the same game? Not sure who developed it though.

wow... you are correct, this exact same game already exists for android and I had no idea. Looks like I am going to abandon development unless someone thinks it is good to have diversity in the market, since I don't have a G1 there really is no way for me to test to see the differences that may exist...
I enjoyed putting this together, but I wish there was some way to browse the titles available on the market other than directly from a G1, that way I would have known to work on something different. (and after a quick search my second game that I was planning on making "4NARow" (a connect 4 clone) is already on the market too...
maybe if I pay the $25 and register as an android developer I can see the different apps available in the market?

They released the first non-beta version today. It had a couple of glitches but I think they've got them taken care of with an update that should be out any time.
I actually prefer it over the other browsers I've tried on my Fuze. I haven't had any problem with speed or navigation. Also, since it's got the same base as the iPhone's Safari, you get the iPhone version of a lot of sites, which is usually superior to the regular version or mobile version.
I think browsers are one of those things that everyone has their own preference on but if you're unhappy with Opera, Skyfire or IE, it's definitely worth trying out.

According to their website, there are a lot of feature improvements, including flash support:
It has been one year since our first public preview was released, and today we made Iris Browser 1.1.0 available for download! There are many surprises waiting inside, including support for the Flash Lite ActiveX control, big performance gains, reduced memory usage, preliminary RSS and SVG support, the highest Acid3 score of any shipping mobile browser, and HTC accelerometer support. Download a copy now, and we’ll update you with more of the new features and plans in the near future!
I've personally been using the prior version and really enjoyed it. If this new version provides the features promised, it will likely be awesome.

When I installed 1.1.0 yesterday it asked me if I wanted to install the update 1.1.1 and so for its a decent browser have to play with it more..
so far this has been awesome. i'll take the crappy interface, because it renders wonderfully. i love the little bulge thing when you click links.
Downloading and installing now. Will try all day tomorrow. Will be great to have a nice browser to use instead of PIE or Opera. Those two have given people a lot of proxy problems and flash content pages issues.
EDIT: First try and it just froze my FUZE.
I just started hating it with all my heart
I just can't use it. Every time I run it, it takes about a minute and it resets my phone. The controls are horrible. I can't believe you have to go through a couple of menus to actually enter an address. Also, I went to Youtube and flash content didn't work. And then guess, phone restarted.
Some of you guys seem happy with it, and some very unhappy like me, could you confirm the version you are using. I downloaded 1.1.1, wondering if we are all running the same at this point or if some of you still on 1.1.0. The one i'm using is supposed to fix the lock problem like mentioned before, but NOT.
This browser has extremely bad issues with memory usage... I will be running it (by itself, nothing else) for ~5 minutes, go to a few web sites, and it will invariably say "Out of memory" and exit automatically. I do like how things are rendered, however the zoom functionality is garbage compared to opera, and even clicking on a link takes longer than opera (although the animation/confirmation that you've actually clicked a link is nice).
all in all, i think it has a way to go, as the memory issue is something that makes it completely unusable as a daily browser (unless loading 1 website and quickly exiting is your cup of tea, heh).
i have the latest official adobe flash cab installed and i can't get flash to work.. anyone have luck with this?
Nice browser, I installed 1.1.1 last night, it really works nice, overall very smooth, the UI can take some changes, but overall performance was very solid.
I installed this browser, and it looked like it was about halfway through loading a page and would lock up.. had to soft reset. several times. I uninstalled it pretty quickly.
pat
Installed/uninstalled it twice last night--uninstalled permanently this morning. It would work for one webpage then lock up the phone. I checked and was using the most 1.1.1 - I agree the interface is not good, having the URL entry be clicks away from the start page was not wise in a broswer app. This app is not ready for broad usage. Although it did lock up on different pages it seemed to particularly find the New York Times page problematic.
Everyone do themselves a favor and change the cache directory to the storage card.
On NATF 4.3, it works perfectly. Nice use of webkit on winmo!!
FYI... version 1.1.2 is now out. They seem to be incorporating fixes pretty rapidly so if you've had problems with it, I suggest testing the latest version to see if their resolved.
I'm developing for Android platform utilizing Adobe newest Flex HERO which supports mobile device. The whole process is ok, but what I found that first of all it slow, that may be because no official release or AIR and Flash for GTablet. But also it is quite buggy. During debug application keeps crashing very often in various places, so I assume this is not my bugs. Debugging on device getting to be very annoying, can launch app 5 times before it actually starts properly and wont crash at very beginning.
Can anyone sharable own experience of AIR developed under GTablet?
I'm using latest Vegan firmware latest available AIR and Flash player.
Edit: I've attached APK with app, please try it and tell me how it works. Thank you!
I made a couple of simple apps with the first BURRITO release of the platform. All in all, no major problems like you described. The apps are slow, but not excessively so given that it has to load the AIR runtime first.
At the time I wrote the apps, I was on TnTLite 1.x and 2.x. Havent tried with 4.2.x.
I hope you get it sorted out; to me, the Flex platform is WAY faster to work with than the standard Android/Eclipse or MotoDev Studio.
My ReelPortal video conference app runs on top of AIR 2.5.1, but I actually developed it using Haxe (FlashDevelop IDE), instead of the Adobe tools. The major reason for doing that was speed, as from what I read, Haxe compiles to faster and tighter AS3 bytecode.
This was my first Flash app, so I had to learn both Haxe and AS3, but I think it's worth it, being able to run fast & efficient.

That sounds familiar. Is it this problem:
MoonPops: I kept getting the black screen while starting up ReelPortal in the TNT dashboard home, but it works fine in the Android Home Classic screen interface.
Also, there are several versions of AIR floating around, and some don't work at all. I suggest get it from Android Market if you can. If not, then from the Adobe SDK.

Not working on the transformer or the gtablet yet. But hopefully we'll get a working app soon either from microsoft or from the dev community.
I tried a patched version that took out the restriction. It force closes when trying to accept a call and enable video, but the settings and buttons show up...
gtab
Can some one upload the APK when they get the new video skype so we can try this on the gtablet.
Here's the issue, I think...
The support for video chat requires Gingerbread. If I understand correctly, this is because GB finally introduced a standard API to access the front camera.
Until Gingerbread did this, all apps that accessed the camera needed their own drivers to do so (there was no standard camera driver to access back then, which is why apps needed to have built in support for specific devices).
Skype is using this to their advantage by releasing an app that doesn't require much code change to support device almost any device (why they are only supporting specific devices at a time is mostly political AFAIK).
But here's the problem- There is no official Gingerbread for our hardware! All the GB roms we have are hacked together with peices of code with missing native hardware drivers since they don't exist! That means, I would guess, the new Gingerbread camera API is USELESS BECAUSE GINGERBREAD LACKS THE NATIVE HARDWARE SUPPORT!
Yes, this is awfully depressing. But without a real Official Gingerbread rom, unless Skype starts offering Froyo camera support (unlikely since they would go back to the old problem of suporting each camera hardware individually), this is just not going to happen.
Maybe if the rumors of official Honeycomb drivers turn out to be true, and Skype eventually supports video with HC (another *IF*), then maybe. But that's a long way off.
Very depressing- I was very excited about this working until I came to this realization.
Wrong thread.
How's that? Looks like the correct thread to me.

Thanks you! Im glad that im not alone with this problem
I called Huawei-Germany and they will check this today.
Hello. Some apps work for me but most do not (the shaking display in VR/drifting display in 360 mode. For example Monzo, Titans of Space, Debris Defrag and few others works fine, including Google's Design Lab. However the same Google's Cardboard Demos go crazy as well as Apollo 15, Mars and You Tube. Funny but Street view starts with a malfunction, but then a window pops up suggesting do download Google VR Services (which is incompatible with my P9), so when You return to app, it works OK (stable view). Same experience? Please share, so maybe it will be easier to find a solution.
Yes, as above, some apps work and others don't. I have a feeling it's how the apps read data off the sensors on the phone but I'm no coding expert.
I even tried side loading Google VR Service but it didn't help...
Im developing VR games for almost year, and I never encounter such problem on P9 even with latest update.
Most of problems can be related to SDK that specific apps use. Not to system it self
Sadly even with all those hype with VR, most of cardboard apps and games are made by single person devs(like me) and most of them dont update cardboard SDK of their products to be compatible with latest Android versions, because response/amount of downloads are not sufficient to push that product forward, its too much time and effort, rewarded by lack of any respond, only some random people complaining about things that actually are not realated to game/app but their device.
As far as product that use unity engine are less vulnerable for gyro-related problems, other products need way more tinkering under the hood, and its harder to keep it optimized for all available devices.
As a selfish guy that didnt spend a cent on advertising so I need to ask for every download, I would like to ask you to check my game and see if it have that problem(sadly it need controller, but you can see how gyro work anyway in main menu). Its based on Unity engine so you can check how it work with that engine.
http://paranoiia8.wixsite.com/powerlift
And also I could ask you to download VR theater app that is not based on Unity and it contain latest Cardboard SDK so we can see if your problem is related to software of cardboard or its specific update of P9.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.couchgames.apps.cardboardcinema
Also small tip: as far as Google Cardboard app is really handy, VR services are actually not needed, and they are mostly for Daydream-compatible devices.
+ here are QRcodes for almost all VR goggles so you can scan them using Cardboard configuration assistant(that small gear in the middle of screen)
http://www.hypergridbusiness.com/faq/vr-headset-qr-codes/
I've found that Unity based apps fare the worst on the P9 as far as VR goes.
Will try the above when I get back to WiFi !!
I tried all apps and still the same problem :/
I also tried different QR codes for my goggles, nothing changed.
