Hi
I bought a used i9000m. It is running JL2 just fine. However I fear the SD card issue.
If I flash a custom ROM and/or a ext4 lagfix, is there more chances that I get the SD card problem?
And if I get this problem, can I flash back to JL2 to make it look stock before I send it for replacement?
Also I think the GPS is now pretty good with JL2. Slower to fix, but accurate.
it doesn't really matter what you do
if it's defective it will die eventually
better to die sonner than later, meanwhile there is still warranty
Yeah but if it dies and I am stuck with a custom recovery and/or a i9000 boot screen (instead of i9000m), they might not honor my warranty isn't it?
Also what is the easiest, least intrusive way to have an ext4 lag fix + root? I have seen many roms and kernels changing a lot of stuff. I really only need lag fix + root.
edit: I installed voodoo 5.1.

In an effort to get BLN back on my I9000M, I'm trying to decide if it's worth switching to the SpeedMod kernel. Since I've got my I9000M back from repair and upgraded to JL2 it's been running flawlessly so I don't want to mess with it - but I do want BLN.
So JL2 users with SpeedMod - any problems so far? (and which version of SpeedMod are you using?)
I'm referring to this SpeedMod, btw:

I would definitely switch to SpeedMod. It's a great, fast kernel with a ton of options.
It wouldn't cause the SD card to die, if that's what you're thinking, because by flashing the JL2 firmware you're flashing the secondary boot loader (Sbl.bin) which fixes the issues with the SD card. The kernel is like an entirely separate entity than the sbl, which means it won't brick.
So, go ahead and flash it.
Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't worried so much about the internal SD as I was about things like WiFi battery drain which seems to have become an issue in some of the 2.2.1 releases.
But since I'm not too familiar with Android/Linux development, I'm don't know if it has more to do with the JP* firmwares or the kernel itself.
I've been running it with speedmod k10k all lagfix/speed options disabled (I don't need them, this rom is quick!) and my phone is working like a champ. wifi/gps off, push/pull on w/ hsdpa, I can go just about two full days without charging. With wifi on and gps on plus everything else, I can go about 10-12 hrs.

I was under the impression that the sd card issue was a bit deeper than just flashing a new bootloader. Is there a thread with more about this? i dont want to brick any more phones, and if flashing JL2 will correct the memory issues, i'll gladly go back from jpy. and is there any way to flash the SBL (if it in fact fixes the sd corruption) without changing anything else? ie: sticking with my jpy without a whole pile of flashing to jl2, then back, etc.
Thanks for the input. Running now with all the recommended tweaks but no lag fix... Maybe a bit more fluid in the ui, but honestly jl2 was so fast to begin with its hard to tell All i really care about is that i got bln back.
Will be watching battery overnight with fingers crossed.

I too would like a little more official information about this, and whether the new SBL fixes this. As this seems a little to quick for Samsung to say they've fixed the problem. Who knows that would be a great not to live in fear each and everyday I use my SGS
I'm so new to this - is this easy to do ? to flash this rom ?
where's the best way to start, you tube? is there any reccomended tutorials ?
I have a SGS from bell, it's my 2nd one. I haven't upgraded to Froyo yet b/c I can't connect to Kies. Should I just flash instead ?

Running JL2 + Speedmod + lagfix, phone is fine so far. BLN was causing the touch aspect of my screen to not work so i couldnt even unlock it. havent had a change to fool around with it though.
Been running Super Optimized Kernel instead of SpeedMod in my custom ROM, and I've noticed that its been much faster. Gonna stick with it for now.
I have Cognition 3.1 and Clockwork Rom installed.
Can I flash the stock Rogers rom with Clockwork? I'm just asking in case there are any known issues with doing this.
My plan is to download the stock rogers rom found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-I896
Then put it on the SD Card and flash it with Clockwork.
Any help is appreciated, Thanks.
Make sure you disable lag fix. If you don't you will have problems
The cognition lag fix is built in. I never had to run OCLF.
Cognition uses voodoo lag fix I believe, all ext 4 filing. Stock uses rfs filing. Didable voodoo before trying to flash a rfs based filing system or you will have problems. Like omg my phone won't boot
Thanks Pal. I just disabled Voodoo in the boot menu. Next step flashing the Rom.
I am doing this because I am selling my phone and bought an iPhone4.
This is my 2nd android device and I'm just tired of random bugs and allways having to tweak my device. I just want a phone that works.
I will sure miss all of the customization, I will most def keep an eye on android for the future, but at this point, I feel like it needs to mature a little.
I am due to receive a new galaxy s today, after mine bricked in Dec "Damaged Internal SD Card" (recovery had cannot mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1).
I have not really being watching the threads here since it has been gone, and wanted to know if the general consensus is that JL2 fixed the SD card problem or, it is as I fear, a hardware problem. If it is a hardware problem I will likely sell it and purchase a Desire HD to replace it. Either way I want to run CM7.
If I do keep it, I will likely run a rom from Doc's Kitchen until CM7 is stable, has anyone had any problems with the Internal SD card on replacement devices running a Doc Rom?
it's hardware
Some believe it to be hardware, others believe Bell and Samsung, who have stated that it's software. They go on to say the latest firmware, JL2, contains a new secondary boot loader which apparently fixes the issue.
Flash the SBL and you're free to flash any ROM you want safely.

BTW seeARMS when do u plan to update ur ROM again???
Any Bell i9000m users out there ? Do you (did you) have the faulty SD card issue ? Are you able to successfully flash ROMS ?
I have the SD issue (I think) -- when I upgraded to 2.2 it Froze on the reboot and was stuck there - I had to do a recovery / wipe / clear cache and then it rebooted and is fine - but I think and suspect the SD card is faulty since it's not the first time I've had to do a reset.
Anyways, I'm thinking about trying out a ROM because my phone is ridiculously slow. I should also add I don't know how to root it (z4mod doesn't work neither does superoneclick)
But I am worried if I flash custom ROMS and Kernals etc. that I will lose everything -- anyone come across this concern ?
Hey,
I had a galaxy s with an internal sd card failure. i had to send it to samsung and they fixed it for me while putting the new 2.2 firmware on it.
if you want to try out a custom firmware, try seeARM's custom firmware. unlike other custom roms, this one uses a JL2 modem, which (assuming you're using this in north america) will let you also use the 850Mhz for 3G data.
the JL2 modem is suppose to be good for the bell phones because it doesn't increase the chance of internal sd failures (so i've heard, but I can't be sure about this). so if you want a custom rom, you can try to read up on that.
I am using galaxy S i9000 (international). I have stock 2.1, upgraded to 2.2 (kies), Z4root, and OCLF. Initially OCLF was just mind blowing....but after 1 month things are lagging horribly (its even worse than 2.1) My questions are:
1. Does installing apps on the SD card cause lagging even after OCLF (I am thinking like that as before installing OCLF i had to move all the apps from the SD card to the Internal storage)
2. Is there a possibility of a bug causing random crashes, which i am experiencing
3. Ultimately will removing the OCLF and reapplying it solve the lag issue ( has any one done that?
Please help
Will change the ROM as last resort (but dont want to at the moment)
p.s= my friends with iphones are really bugging me due to my phones random crashes, lags...
Its question of pride people
Get rid of OCLF completely.
It used to be good but is just outdated nowadays.
Revert the Lagfix in OCLF, then get rid of it.
Flash SpeedMod Kernel and enable EXT4 + Startup Tweaks.

I would also look into flashing a 2.2.1 ROM as well. XWJS7 is the newest one at the moment.
Do some reading about flashing with Odin3. Do some research and read some tutorials posted on the forums.
