as ive said in previous posts, I am a recent convert from windows mobile. I had an app on my htc advantage, that was an independant rss reader, as well as a full function rss widget for my home screen. Alot of my rss feeds are photoblogs, or at least news/websites that have photos with the rss feed. This app I had for windows mobile would show the headline of each article along with the first two or three lines AND the picture ON the home screen widget. I have yet to find any rss reader apps with widgets, or standalone widgets that would display the headline including any picture on the homescreen. Does anyone know of an android reader with a widget that does show pictures?
Ok, I think ive gone through every rss reader in the market and none have any sort of picture support in their widgets. Does anyone have any suggestions, or would any eager coders fee like designing a widget that would do this?
if anyone happens to try an rss app and notice that it displays pictures thru a widget....please let me know as I am still in need and looking.
AnyRSS Widget
Unfortunatly Anyrss reader does not display pictures in the widget. Both engadet and gizmodo have pictures of items for each post, that I am looking to have displayed with each headline.
Try FeedR, its 0.99c on the market. Set the feed you want on as a shortcut and it displays images when you collapse it. If you don't like it you can get a refund within 24hrs.
You'd think google would have google reader considering it's their OS
Thanks origins81, I dont think i have tried Feedr yet. I will give it a run this afternoon.
I now have Feedr, but it doesent look like it has any kind of widget support at all. Yes you can create shortcuts on your home screens to a specific feed, but then when you click on it, it opens the whole reader app. The shortcut isnt even a picture, just a generic feedr icon. I'm thinking it may have been an older version of SPB Insight that did the trick on winmo. If i updated my engadget feed, it would download the most recent say 15 posts, and then on my homescreen, it would cycle through the headlines with the corresponding picture that went with each post.
I am still on the hunt for this, I posted a few comments requesting picture widget support for the most popular rss readers on the market....hopefully someone will hear my cry
There is a new version of FeedR with widget support now, though I've not tried it.
The best RSS widgets I've come across are the News Buzz/Mobile Buzz/Gaming Buzz ones by mippin.com...the only problem is that the feeds are automatic and not customisable. That said you can choose a category e.g. Android on Mobile Buzz and it fetches a good selection of news.
Mik
Please let me know if you found one.
esp, widget shows multi lines with img. thanks.

You my friend, are a hero.
I've searched for days, I saw it before, but always thought pulse news was just some news site that showed only their news.
For an RSS android app widget that shows pictures, and text, this is excellent! Loving pulse news widget! All my favorite sites feeds with pictures! (<---Intentionally worded with keywords so others searching for this type of widget would come up easier in search engines)
You're more than welcome! Glad I could help out with something on xda even with me being a semi-noob!
Sorry I'm posting but xDA all of a sudden says that I don't have permission because I have never posted so this is what I'm posting, sorry to post this, but I don't have a choice thanks xda!
So, I have absolutely no knowledge of any type of Android coding, but I'm hoping to learn through trial and error. I've always hated the native Music app -- especially its appearance, but also certain features here and there. My question is, how can I go about editing this?
I'm in the process of re-skinning the APK, basically replacing the old images with better ones. But how would I go about more substantive edits? Suppose I wanted to change the background color to white and the text to black, or the time-jumper at the bottom of the screen from orange, how would I go about that? There's some XML files in the APK, but whenever I open them, I get a bunch of odd characters that I can't really make sense of.
Am I correct in assuming that the source code is not available for Music.apk? If it is, how do I get it and where do I go from there?
Like I said, I'm an absolutely beginner at app creation/modding, but I'm usually a pretty quick learner. I went from zero web design experience to replacing my University's housing website with a brand new one in less than a week, so if I get a push in the right direction, I should be good to go. I did a site search for tutorials on modding a system app, but couldn't find anything.
Any help?
PS: Once I get some edits started (if I ever get that far), I'll definitely be sharing it with XDA. So, any advice you could provide could be mutually beneficial!

Something like that would be pretty simple cause its just list views that expand other list views.
As for starting to edit you can change most of the colors is the strings.xml and the layout xmls. For images make sure you dont replace .9.png with normal images. If you have the sdk setup use draw9patch in the tools folder.

Thanks, that helps. I'll get started by taking a look at that.
I'm not sure why I thought it was unavailable. I mean, some of Google's other apps are close-sourced, thought I suppose those are all part of the Google Experience.
I guess I thought that if the source code was available, someone would have improved the Music app substantially by now. In my opinion, it's terrible and could use a lot of work.
Hi there,
Is there a way I can put a text document directly on one of my home screens and edit directly from there? I would like to use it for a shopping list. I have both Astrid and AK Notepad which are both awesome but they require afew extra button presses. Since I have 7 home screen pages, I would like to just be able to swipe directly to my list. Thanks for your help.
Huck.
I just tried do that with BetterCut for you but I couldn't get it to link directly to a saved note, just the note app itself
Maybe someone else will have another solution?
OI shopping list is the app for you!
well as my first week for android on NAND comes to a close i must say thanks to all for your help. these threads are the best in getting all the answers i need, and thanks also for the quick responses on the ones that i needed help with.
after trying all the flavors out there i must give props to Myns newest Eclair build. that has proven most favorable for my usage. thanks Myn keep up the good work. i look forward to more stuff from all you. and i mean what my signature means. if any of you need a tester, please PM me. i will gladly flash one, work it over a couple days and give you my opinion.
i am still stunned that i can get almost 10 hours out of a single charge and it only 2 hours to recharge. i had many reservations coming from winMO, but now that i have made the move, the reservations now seem trivial. the overall benefits work in my favor.
ok so there are some blue tooth issues, and some other fine tuning things, big deal. overall i give my experience above average marks.
i do have a few apps questions please
1. WinMO had a widget that gave one the ability to check mail and messaging and mark as read from the desktop area without having to open each individual message in messaging. is there such an app for android? i tried chomp but wasnt too impressed, and havent really found anything else to try after that.
2. i am a big landscape user- is there a keyboard that is a little bigger to accommodate the screen and 'clumsy thumbs?
3. there are some builds that have 'free market' does that mean that i can download anything and not pay for it?
4. i have read android will play mp4 video native. is there a free conversion tool out there someplace for a MAC? or maybe an android player that will do mov/avi video?
thanks again for all you have done. i look forward to more.

1. In incubus26jc's super eclair build he includes a messaging widget that may be what you're looking for. If you want just that widget. you can download his build and take the .apk file for the widget and move it onto your sd card or in an androidupdate.tar to install it. (pm me if you need further instructions).
2. Somewhere in the forum someone posted a QVGA/120dpi compatible HTC keyboard that comes stock on the Hero, etc. Many people prefer this and I believe the keys are a little bigger. Just search the threads for that.
3. No. The "free" means no paid apps will show up, only free ones.
4. I'm not sure. I don't use my vogue as a media device but I'm sure with a little googling you could find a solution.

I just got the gtablet for christmas and I just found this forum. I hope this wasnt asked before if it was please direct me. How do I change the wallpaper? I have it setup as classic home. Also while on classic home I only have the following icons weather, news, photos, music, videos, and clock how do I get all my icons there instead of touching the 3rd icon down in the lil tool box on the side? I also read on here about people loading different software on instead of the taptap thing it uses. What are the advantages of the different software? Sorry its long..Thanks

Maybe start here: http://gtabfans.com/
That will give you some basics about the different roms and other things.
Then read, and read, and read some more.
Most importantly is whatever you decide.. "Follow The Steps EXACTLY" Don't not do them because it just doesn't seem right. It is very easy to mod this tablet. It is also very easy to run into problems. None of the problems are real serious, and can be fixed but they will make you nuts trying to figure out what happened. So follow the directions....
The reason people put different roms on there tablet, or phone, or whatever is to gain features, to fix things that don't work right, and to gain performance. Out of the box the tablet is not bad nowadays in comparison to what was loaded on it when I first got mine.
If you are new to this, read, read, read....... And don't be afraid. It is hard to really break this thing...
im so lost lol i tried to install that clockwordmod thingy and i cant get it...so frustrating
I believe there are two different update.zip files for clockwork. One for internal sd and one for external. I used the external. Put it on micro sd, insert, power down, boot into recovery with power and volume +, and voila... There are several great tutorials on this site...

1st, Way to go with making the move to a custom rom.
Setting wallpaper
-All you need to do is press and hold on the home screen.
-You will see a pop up with options.
-Go to wallpaper.
-Select where you are getting the wallpaper from.
-Choose your wallpaper and you will have to crop it a bit and save...
You should now have your wallpaper set.
For Clocks you need to go to the market and choose your preference of clocks for example like typoclock and do sort of the same as above but this time with widgets.
Hope that helps.
how do i make custom wallpaper or install ones people made on here to download?
If you download an image from the Gtablet or just transfer it to it, it should show up in your gallery. For me, I usually need to reboot for the Gallery to see new images. Once you get the wallpaper popup, one of the options is Gallery. Use that, find your image and select it.
Most of all spend some time screwing around with Android and learn the OS. Always remember the long press and the menu key. They are th skeleton keys to Android. If there's and option you're looking for, one of those two is usually how you'll find it.
