[Q] Trouble Updating Magazine Purchase - Nook Color General

So, I used Autonooter a month ago and am definitely satisfied with the device now. There is no way I would go back to the stock B&N ROM. Unfortunately, I've been having issues updating my Nation magazine subscription which was purchased through the B&N store before I rooted. To clarify, I was receiving updates after I rooted. It's just that those updates stopped about 2-3 weeks ago. It's keeps downloading the same issue; no new ones.
I attempted to get service through B&N, but I guess everybody and their momma is trying to contact them. They haven't gotten back to me. Should I un/re-root and update? I figured that would be the best bet....I just didn't want to download all my apps again I'd appreciate any advice.
Peace,

So, really, 58 views and no comments? If no one has run into this issue then, I guess, that's cool. Thanks for the peek(s).

autonooter doesn't change the rom right? also i got my feb issue of car and driver with a rooted nook

I woud do the 8 boot reset and then reset the data and re-root it. Many have had issues so they reset it back to stock and reroot it. It fixes most problems people have

Thanks, ya'll. I will wipe and re-root...when time permits.

NC just "updated" itself back to 1.0.0 and lost root

Autonootered 1.0.1 NC was sitting on the table in my house, just picked it up to see an update notification that it was updated to 1.0.0 and I lost root.
WTF?

How do we block OTA updates???
Wow,
Went to edit my post with the link and there were two replies in like 3 minutes! Yes, you should block OTA updates. Never let a rooted device update itself without knowing the exact impact. Learned that through years of enjoying a hacked DirectTivo (for saving recordings, NOT theft of service).

I know not to accept an OTA update, but I've not experienced a device updating itself without "asking". My Evo tells me or I go ask, which of course I never do.
Where do we block OTAs?
I just got my NC yesterday, rooted it last night, I'm running stock rooted, Zeam, Opera browser, DLed a bunch-o-Apps, and that's about as far as I have gotten.
Something convinced it to revert to stock. Best bet is to do a back to factory reset, make it update to 1.0.1 (unless you have some earthshaking app that won't run on 1.0.1) and block OTA updates via renaming. Then don't change it until you really need to, like a superROM comes out or B&N gets 2.2 released and the community digests it and posts new rooting instructions.
Mine is at 1.0.1 and rooted. To be honest, what I run 99% of the time is Nookie Froyo off a fast SD card. I'm waiting until B&N releases a new FW to play around with the internal install again.

Pretty sure that's been determined that it does NOT block OTAs at all..
Good news,
There is one coming to test it. 1.1.0 was released today for manual downloads. OTA to come.

[REQ] Get root on atrix update 4.1.57

So we have confirmation that superoneclick and aroot doesn't work on the new atrix update. If any dev will work on this please use this thread.
EDIT: Please don't comment on this thread anymore. Go to Ririal's v2 root method
I just updated and it does seem smoother to me. Might just stick with it.

Maybe this is your first piece of electronics, but it's completely expected that everytime a software update for a piece of hardware is released, exploits are closed. Apple does it, Sony does it, Microsoft does, HTC does it, Motorola does it, Nokia does it...The list goes on.
This WAS EXPECTED. I always found it entertaining how whenever an update was released for my EVO the forum here on XDA would get absolutely flooded with people saying how they lost root NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES THEY WERE WARNED! It could take 5 minutes, 5 hours, 5 days, 5 weeks, 5 years, or eternity for root to be regained after an update. There's no way to know.
any way of installing 3rd party non-market apps, like amazon appstore?

I would be helping fix it if I had the update. I'm still waiting for the notification, but thanks The OP is just forum clutter, and it's pretty rude to be making these requests minutes after the update is even pushed, and a BETA update, at that. That was my point.

Did you flash back to stock before the update or did you do the update on a rooted/gingerblured phone? Do you know if you were using 1.2.6 or 1.5.2? Have you tried running su in a terminal to make sure root actually works?
Was worried bout flashing without stock software already installed think ill go back to stock anyway to try it the official way first.. Can always go back and upgrade after rooted though if this works consistently.
The security hole that allowed for root on the phone is CLOSED in this update. There is no way of rooting your phone after this, save going back to one of the available SBFs. Confirmed by designgears as well.
As someone said earlier, "for now" the root method is disabled, and there is no way of rooting your phone after the update "at this moment".
I have confidence everything will be OK.
Boy am I glad I decided to stay away from this "update." I got accepted but when I go to check for updates it says I need a social networking account setup. When I then hit setup nothing happens so I said forget it lol.

Upgrade to version D
Hi there!
Did the upgrade to version D about a week ago. Still had issues with reboots from the first day so I did a hard reset to factory default.
You'd think things would improve!!!
Within 24 hours it started rebooting again. This time in a continuous loop. Even a battery pull couldn't stop it. Had to do a hard reset again. Naturally lost everything on it.
Have now asked Phones4u for a replacement. They've been very helpful. Even extended the return period. I reckon they know the 'phones has issues. Waiting for the replacement.
SO 'NO' THE VERSION D UPGRADE DOESN'T FIX THE REBOOTING PROBLEM!!!
I've been using XDA/HTC branded 'phones since 2002 and have NEVER had any issues with them.
If the replacement has the same problem I'll be asking Phones4u for non LG phone replacement.
In the meantime I'm using my trusty old HD2 to with a HTC Desire HD rom

Great stuff - the more coverage the better .
Nice! I just posted both today's articles on the Facebook page of LG Germany (http://www.facebook.com/LG). Let's see how much longer LG can remain silent about it.
heard from LG today who told me the update/fix was now available and gave me a link to their support page.
I checked my phone and it says i'm already up to date with v10D
yes - it seems that LG in all their "wisdom" still have no clue and beleive the earlier released baseband update would fix these problems - which it doesnt.
I have heard others in different parts of the world receive the same answer regarding the update.
Actually my mom's phone was almost problem free on EURO OPEN 10b. I updated it to Bulgaria 10D and she told me that the phone had shut off. I updated with EURO OPEN 10C and again it's problemless
So the update thats supposed to fix the problems is the 10D-update? If thats the case I'm throwing this POS away and never gonna look at another LG-thing again. That means throwing my TV out aswell.
Seems like LG gives two ****s about this issue and hey, why would they? They already got my money.
I have contacted BBC News tonight as maybe they can run story on the tech page?

Believe it our not, but v10D makes it worse. Our phone now has the charging freeze going more. Before v10D we didn't have that.

My phone has been v10b (i gather it is a uk version of v10d) from the day i purchased it, which is almost over a month ago, phone shut off only a couple of times and rebooted once, may be twice till a week ago. Since a week ago it started rebooting almst every day once, mostly in the mornings. So can‘t see how that could be a fix.

VZW Halts OTA

I just got off the phone with VZW. Apparently, they've stopped rolling out the OTA because of "software issues," though he didn't specify beyond that. So, for all of you who have been waiting for the OTA over the past few days, off the top of his head, the tech guesstimated it'll be around a month before they begin rolling it out again. Lame.
Edit: You can still install the .217 leak...but if the update has been pulled for software issues, that obviously means .217 is no longer the official OTA.
What? thats BS! even though im on Eclipse ICS 1.2, its still BS for anyone still on GB!

Yeah, I've been mashing the "systems update" option habitually now for a couple days, but also avoided just manually updating to the .217 leak for this very reason. Either way, it is kind of disappointing.
honestly, if I were you, I would jump on either the 217 leak, or if you want a custom rom that's slightly themed and has extra features/no bloat, go with Eclipse
It wasn't supposed to be released for the general OTA, they did that on accident, only people who were signed up for the motorola feedback network test were supposed to get it, but for some reason they pushed it to all devices. It should be officially pushed in a week or so, because it appears the soak test isn't showing up any major issues.

EDIT: Did NOT work
I called VZW tech support earlier today because it was not working and they did not mention anything about it being halted, but it probably depends on which tech you speak with.
I am not sure if this works or not but the guy I spoke with did tell me that performing a factory reset can sometimes trigger the upgrade. I don't have anything on there that I can't live without or easily re-install so I am going to go ahead and give it a shot.
EDIT: Just tried above. Did NOT work

As mentioned above, there was no planned general release yet. Moto did a release for "a few thousand" phones, of which only a small portion are official MFN soak testers. The test will end soon, and it looks like no show-stopper issues have been found, so, if things go as usual, the general release will roll out, probably in groups, over the next several days.
Sounds like the OP spoke to someone in VZ who really didn't know why the release wasn't available and made something up. (And I bet you never thought a VzW rep would do that!)
Keep in mind, even if they had decided to halt it due to a showstopper bug, they've already released it to several thousand owners. Which means they're obligated to provide anyone on .217 with a way to get back onto the upgrade path, if they decide to release a newer update down the road.
All in all - if you're impatient, just install the current .217 files - you'll still be able to upgrade again later if you need to.
Btw: I'm on it now, and I ABSOLUTELY HATE the Dialer and Contacts being split apart into totally separate apps. I always hit the Dialer icon first, and then if I can't remember a person's phone number, I now have to back out of it and look up the contact first. Whereas on GB I just had to select the Contacts tab and go on. So from a human interface perspective, this new design sucks.

It's happened to me twice now in the last two days that I was unable to hear the people calling me. Switching to speaker mode or rebooting the phone fixed this. Actually only rebooting. Alternating between speaker and normal mode is just a temporary fix as long as I'm in speaker mode. Plug in the headset and it works. Take it out en again no sound... I think it happens after I use BT.
Maybe people who are on this update officially could raise a bit of fuss about this and ask to be put back onto Gingerbread?
As we all know this currently can't be done due to the highly restrictive bootloader, perhaps we could wangle a better bootloader out of this?

Well, we can certainly dream, but given a choice between unlocking the bootloader and shrugging apologetically and insisting nothing can be done, I'm dead sure Verizon will require Motorola to do the latter. :crying:

Is this BLU R1 HD Rootable?

I bought one of these things thinking I could try out going back to Android for a while after becoming disenfranchised by Apple. In the past I was able to get my Google on and I'd be running Cyanogen within a few hours. I've been slugging it out with this little thing all week and I'm going mad. I've tried the instructions on a dozen pages, and I have had no luck.
Has anybody had any luck gaining control of this device, or should I just send it back?
