How do you test your gps lock on? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hear how people say how fast they get a gps lock on, but I don't know how do do that? Is it just in the navigation app? Whenever I try that it just gets stuck on "checking navigation ability" and never passes it
Can someone please elaborate?

Is there a way to see how many satellites it has locked on to?

try and get gps test from the market.

You can use lbstestmode. It shows you the satellites and the lock. Download AnyCut from the market and create a shortcut to lbstestmode.

[Q] how to i get screen to stay on for maps

Probably something simple i am missing. When i use Google maps and gps how do i stop the screen from timing out and turning off?
Is there a way to control this automatically when gps and maps are on?

umm
Not the best answer but here goes. I can't get it to stay on for google maps, but it's easy for google navigation.
Tasker on the market... Great program, its a paid app but well worth it. You can set up start up for any app, trigger-maps=screen stays on. And on exit it goes back to normal settings.... Great great app! Endless custom settings

make sure you are using the internal GPS.
settings > location and security > GPS soruce > use internal GPS
its not activated in a fresh install.
othwerwise its looking for a bluetooth mouse. for some awesome reason.
Sorry. never asked what rom your using. as the option i stated is not in every rom. - hopefully you have this option and its the cause of your problem
On the G2x forum there have been alot of these types of posts. Here's what works 100% for me: (prerequisite: have GPS status installed) lay.change GPS status and let it download the GPS aiding data>reboot>launch GPS status and let it get a lock>launch maps
Note: if you use this method and the GPS aiding data is less than a day old you can start at rebooting.
Disclaimer: This method works for me, if it doesn't work for you I can't give you an explanation.

[Q] GPS On/Off Shortcut on Home Screen - NO ROOT

Hi All,
I tried all GPS Widgets available on Google Play but none seems to be functioning. Some do nothing and most of them will just open the GPS phone menu, where you have to activate GPS manually. Is there a way to turn on/off the GPS via one-click shortcut without root?
Thank you.
The simple answer is (unfortunately): No.
Just use the quick settings in pull down menu?

That's location, not GPS. There's a slight difference.

Correct, using Location from the Quick Settings does not allow to turn on GPS only without having to confirm over and over again not to allow Google access.

GPS not available?

I can't seem to get the GPS working on my phone. I have enabled Location services but there is no location icon in the notifications area.
Trying to get a game called Ingress to work and it uses GPS to lock on to your position when the game starts. When I check the GPS status using an app it says "No Fix". I'm not sure what that means.
Edit: Fixed my GPS by changing some APN settings. Please delete or lock this thread.
