I had stock xxjpy firmware and my phone started ringing with no ringtone so I tried to play the ringtone and a message came up that sound file is not supported. I rhen tried playing any mp3 file and they would not play. I downloaded the rescan media app to force the phone to scan media afain and this seems to fix it.
It doesnt matter where the mp3 files are stored, they dont play all the time. This means i get missed calls as the mp3 ringtone doesnt play :-(
I did a factory reset and flashed the firmware up to the jan 2011 european firmware and then restored my user apps and data with titanium but this hasnt helped!!!
Has anyone else got this problem? It seems to be an intermittent issue.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Did you solve this issue?? I stumbled upon this today, and I can't find a solution..
I had the same problem, and I don't have a fix until now. Somone else will help us?
Also got the problem, and all my mp3's are listed double. Anyone has a clue how to fix this?
Edit: Simple reboot fixed the problem for me. If it reoccurs I wil let you guys know.
I keep experiencing this on a stock Froyo 2.2.1. Reboot solves it but there is no guarantee it won't stop again after a while.
I've found that mp4 and m4a files stop playing too and YouTube videos play but with no sound. Wave files appear to be unaffected and will play when the others are rendered mute
I so with my Galaxy S. I have ROM Darky 9.5.XWJS8 500Hz with kernel Speedmod K13E 500hz.
When he feels like it fails to recognize the .MP3 and stop working to play on mediaplayer and Miui Music, as if I have the ringtone or alarm.
When reboots the SGS turns to play OK, but stop again after a while... I don't understand why.

Hello, Has anyone had this problem. As soon as you play a mp3 or ringtone it skips and plays fine. After it's loaded you can play it from begining to end fine without a skip. It only happens when it firsts loads. Also every time my phone rings the song skips and when I pick answer the phone it then skips again. Im not sure what the problem is I copied these ringtones from my MDA which never had this problem. Im guessing its some buffer or cache problem.

Are the files on your device, or an SD card?
There are some known issues with music and video files having to buffer before playing when they are stored on SD cards.
thanks for the reply, but no they are not. Although they did play fine off my SD card on my MDA I currently do not have a micro SD for my phone.
Check out this thread for more information. There are a few suggested changes that you can make to your device to try and eliminate the problem.

I have the same problem. If I go into the phone settings, and I choose an MP3 ringtone and press the play button, there is a jump or skip in the beginning of the playback. If I hit the stop button and then the play button again, the skip is gone. The same thing also happens with calls coming in.
I checked that thread that someone posted, but it mainly discusses if MP3 songs on a media player are skipping or jumping.
Anyone know how to fix this?
I also have all my MP3 ringtones in internal memory.
ok i had this problem to.. dk's 3.02 0.0 rom doesnt seem to have the issue nemore my mp3 ringers which r stored on SD card dont skip nemore..maybe its rom/radio depedent as dumb as that sounds
do you think there is a way to get the fix from that rom rather than change it completely over? I don't want to run into all kinds of other problems by using a new rom.
Thanks for the replies
There has got to be a better way rather than flashing a new rom??
Anyone else having this issue??
Jonathan1683, have you resolved the issue yet? If so what did you do please?
No I haven't I even flashed to duttys rom and it did not fix the problem.
Any one else have any ideas about a fix for this MP3 ringtone saved to internal memory skipping problem??
I could be wrong, but when my phone is connected to my pc with active sync they dont seem to skip when I get calls. Have no idea why
hey Jonathan, I still haven't seen any possible solutions posted here. Have you hard reset and if you have is the problem still there??
Well I just got this phone and it had the problem out of the box, then I upgraded to the new rom released by htc and it had it and I used a cooked rom and it still has it. So I guess that means I have hard reset it. It seems to be worse now somethimes it skipps in the middle of the song too. I don't understand how the cpu could be 2x faster than my mda, but cant handle a ringtone better. The same goes for the slow/crackling dialer. Maybe it's a problem with the sound driver. Who knows....
I only seem to have the issue with the ringtones, and not while playing an MP3. I think there must be a way to fix this. Maybe some kind of registry setting??
My knowledge is limited in this field, but I am sure someone out there can help us.
Hello, i just upgraded my tilt to WM6.5 coocked rom. And I am having problem with playing videos on youtube. The videos it self plays but the sound doesn't. Not only that but once I play a video, it kills the sound on the phoone completely so I can't hear someone when I call, even if I put the phone on speaker, can't play sound what so ever. So I have to restart the phone and it starts workking perfectly fine until i decide to give youtube a one LAST try. Any Ideas what could be the problem. BTW, I have searched for over 3 hours try to find solution in forums but couldn't find anything. Please help!!
Nevermind
I solved the problem. Everyone having this problem, note that you have wrong raido installed on the phone. Go to this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375583
and run the application. Make sure you patch the radio and your phone will start working just fine.
Jp6 + Voodoo or Jp6 with OCLF has the same symptoms. Makes me think it's JP6 that is causing this.
The default music player occasionally stutters while playing MP3 Files (converted with LAME, V0). It happens a few times a day at least. I don't remember that happening in JM6, JM8 (very sure), or JPM(only tried for a day, not sure).
By stuttering I mean that the music is stuttering, not the UI. I've got over 16GB of songs, so the UI definitely lags if you try to scroll too fast on all firmwares.
The stutter is like the kind you get from CD players in the 90s if you shake them too much. Just for a moment.
Anyone else noticed this?
Count me in bro. The music list also stutters when I scroll down. I have 1.4k songs by the way (still have 5gb free still).
Same here. BT and jack. I've uninstalled one suspect: Days. But it could also be caused by kswapd0. JM5 'jittered' sometimes on the jack, but never on BT. And that sounded different, like it was missing cpu cycles. I'm still monitoring what's going on...
my music has been stuttering since day one. lag fix or not. dug up my old iPod and I'm happy now.
Ive never had music shutter. Maybe you sonegow have defective phone?

Running JP6 without a lag fix. Didn't notice it.
But then again I haven't used it a lot after the update nor have a very large song collection (only about 150~200 songs).
If you mean the music sometimes stutters, then yeah I have that too. I had assumed it was something wrong with the bluetooth connection (I use bluetooth headphones) but it might well not be...
Happened for me in all firmwares, solution was to use a different music player.
Might I suggest http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/com.tbig.playerpro/ ?
If this is flac, then it's a known problem since forever. I had hoped that they fixed it in 2.2, but maybe they just made it worse Is this a regression those with the problem?

If for any reason kswapd0 kicks in this means the phone is running low on free memory and starts swapping. kswapd0 is rarely ever (never?) the direct cause, it's just trying to manage the memory. Or lack thereof
hi guys. I also have this problem. I've tried ALL firmware jm8, jm9 and so on. I also tried froyo 2.2 official via kies, and it do the same stuttering problem, but much less. I don' know how to solve this problem, infact i also tried all of media player. Help me guys

Interesting! Another reason to upgrade to 2.2
Just need a stable voodoo first
Personally. I have tested for 2 or 3 days the official 2.2. froyo. This problem ALWAYS HAPPEN, but seems much, MUCH LESS, but SOMETIMES HAPPENS.
So i start to think that is a real problem this....Someone could help? it could be the oneclick fix laga that i installed?
I think there may be a little misunderstanding in some posts.. By stuttering I mean that the music is stuttering, not the UI. I've got over 16GB of songs, so the UI definitely lags if you try to scroll too fast on all firmwares.
Yea same thing, i mean micro 1/10 sec stutter. Mine are gone though... just tested today although they weren't FLAC files. I'll have to restest with FLAC.
Didn't have any lagfix installed when it stuttered so i don't think it's that
I've noticed this in video playback. Was buttery smooth on 2.1 firmwares, but it now stutters when there is... dunno how to explain it, but it's related to sound. When some music kicks in, or there is a laughter track.
Edit: Currently using JPM, had same problems on JPK too
I'm going to try JPM again.. and hopefully find out tomorrow that it doesn't stutter. =D

Hi, not sure what I have done but it is bloody annoying, I hope I can get some help.
I rooted my Tab a few weeks ago and it is working fine. I also downloaded 'Root Tools' a couple of days ago but am not sure if that is the problem, I have tried uninstalling it but it hasn't made a difference.
The problem I have is that every time I switch my phone on from a cold start I get this music playing, very loudly and I can't seem to stop it or find the track. I have to put the phone in silent mode to stop the music playing but when I come out of silent mode the music is still playing. Does this suggest it is a ringtone?
I go into my music player and play every single track but it isn't the one that is constantly playing. when I come out of the music player sometimes it stops.
Is their anything I can install that can stop this? A theme or something? Not sure but it is driving me nuts, lol.
I have done a virus check and it informs me the phone is clean.
I hope you have a better idea than me. Thanks for any help in advance.
Tried checking your notification sound settings? I had similar issue and found it was that.

thanks for reply. Where are the notification settings?
I got it to stop but not sure how. It is techno music that plays and plays but searching on the phone I can still not find it.
I'm glad it has stopped but would really like to know why. Could it have anything to do with a root app?
Hi,
I have been using Galaxy Note1 (GT-N7000) for sometime now. It came with gingerbread while i purchased.
When i played music using default music player, i cant hear the music properly. I was able to hear only scratchy noise and lot of disturbance. When tried with real player and other players i was able to hear clear music.
This problem continued when i upgraded to ICS.
Recently i upgraded to JB 4.1.2 hoping that this will get fixed. But to my surprise, i got more problems. When i get a call, phone ringtone was also playing with the same kind of disturbance. Now, when i play with RealPlayer, Rocket Player and Google Play, i still get the scratchy disturbed music. But surprisingly , when i play trhough VLC, it plays it perfectly. But i have other good players which i want to use. More importantly, i could tolerate the disturbed, scratchy music when i get call :crying:. When i bought Note1, i didnt expect a great sound, but a decent quality sound experience.
Other than this, i dont have any problems with voice calling.
Any clues about what could be the problem?
Thanks in advance,
Ravi

ok, sure, i think happen to me before, when I officially upgraded my SIII to latest Jellybean,
What I did, is I made a factory reset, then after that, things get better...
If this thing not work, try to re install the whole ROM, you can get officially from SAMMOBILE.com or Samsung Kies
Just finished a thread with someone with a similar issue. I asked him to try vlc and it worked fine so we knew it was software related. He remembered he'd installed volume+ previously and deleted it. Sound returned to normal. Hope it helps.
