[Q] Removing the AT&T logo - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Has anyone tried to remove the silver AT&T logo from behind the glass? Thinking about giving it a go but thought I would check to see if anyone else had given it a shot and had any pointers.
Thanks,
Krisbo

i take no responsibilty for this, but I used paint thinner(gun wash actually seeing as I work at a paint shop lol) and rubbed it off my old phone, quite easily actually.
I personally would try that before spray paint...

Get a cover that covers it
U can't see the logo this way, and u r still covered by warranty just in case.

Be careful with 'paint thinner', there is more than one kind. I'd start with rubbing alcohol, then acetone, progress to mineral spirits, then if that doesn't work try some MEK(methyl ethyl ketone). You can quickly melt away any plastics or finishes if you use too strong a product first time out.

How to clean super glue of my kasier screen.

I dropped superglue on my screen.
Can I use nail polish remover to clean it?
Or do you know any other chemical that would not damage my screen?
Oh jeez man..
You could try using the women's nail manicure removing liquid.. not sure what it's called, its sold in almost every store.. made to dissolve the nail polish - it's a pretty strong acid, but I doubt it's strong enough to damage the screen.... unless of course you will rub it in.. I'd just put it on and wait for it to dissolve the glue.
Of course, use at ur own risk =)
Jeez thats harsh...
Anyway, i use "Hammerite Metal Brush Thinners" for that sort of thing, its awesome stuff... im sure it'll even take your eyebrows off if you wanted to...
try Acetone or GooGone in an area close to corner of screen so to make sure it do not mess up the screen... if it don't mess up the screen, then you can try to rub either on the glue gently......
*I'm not responsible for damage though..
DO NOT use anything abrasive on your screen!
Take a damp rag and get the superglue wet. Once it is damp for a while start to rub it gently. Superglue is water soluble for safety purposes. It can take as long as 15 minutes of water exposure before it breaks down.
Too much water is bad, it will get into other parts of the device and possibly cause corrosion. Too little water will not break down the super glue.
I'd say less is more in this case. Take out the battery, clean the screen, let it dry well and then reinsert the battery.
no no no dont use acetone (nail polish) it will damage your screen more it will eat it (melt it down)

Haha, that's a good one. With cyano glue the only thing that ill have a chance is acetone. But as said above it might damage the screen even more (don't get any anywhere else like the front cover), and even if it does the glue will certainly leave stains.
Prepare yourself for a screen replacement...
Thanks for the advises. I will try the water first then the rest.
I will report back tonight.
take it easy brother - it will be resolved
use room temp. water (nothing else) as one of the boys said use little amount i advise using cotton it will hold the amont of water you want to apply
dude - not to get you worried but back up your data before procedure

Can I Polish the touch screen?

My front screen has lots of scratches on it. Can I use plastic buffer polish and polish them out? What will the impact be?
What is a Digitizer?
My sceen also looks like it has speckles inside it, from being dropped, any way to fix this?

Digitizer is a part of the screen which makes the screen touch sensitive.
Dude... haven't you heard of screen protectors? I believe other than changing your whole lcd screen, there is no way to buff the scratches away. and you mentioned that you dropped your diamond numerous times? Bro, the ppc is a very delicate device. I think you need to go to the service center to get it checked...
Digitizers are usually made of glass, and the scratched part of the surface is usually a gasket-like protective plastic.
Fortunately replacing the protective layer is *usually* trivial, but honestly your best bet is as the above poster stated, you need a service center.
Thanks for the info
i had some scratches, i read in another topic that rubbing toothpaste and a piece of banana over your screen helps... well.. it really DOES (a little bit) BUT it will mess up the glossy look a little

Hahahha!
i used black paint, then used petrol to rub it off. Unfortunately my friend lit up a cigar then KABOOOM happened and now i have no phone
I didnt even have the pleasure of rubbing a banana on it
The moral of the story is, before you accidentally blow your phone up, atleast rub a banana on it. It might smell better when it burns ;P

[Q]How to remove engraving?

hey, i was wondering if any one was successful in removing their engravings off the back of the nexus one..... i bought mine cheap second hand, but i can't seem to get the engravings off... thanks!
Maybe if you look up in the dictionary of what "engrave" means you'll find your answer. Then again is it possible to un-grave something? Put a cute little sticker over it or something.
Die grinder.
plastic filler
superfine sandpaper
paint
cover engravings with the filler
let it dry
sand down the filler until it's flush with the rest of the phone
wipe off with a wet rag (let dry after)
paint
depending on your painting skills you can make it look halfway decent. You won't make it like new though. The only way to make it not like terrible would be to paint the entire part of the phone where it is engraved. Since the engravings are on the chrome, looks like a whole body job to me.
Good Luck
Update:
Also, seriously you can't google? You do own their phone...

I'd do this instead.
Toothpaste or Chocolate to wear it down.

sorry, engrave may not be the correct word to use. this is probably laser etching. i'm talking about the etching that google did for people who wanted to customize their phones.

i tried the sugar cubes, but i believe thats only for silkscreened logos. i doubt either of these will be able to get the laser etched letterings. thanks though.
anyone else who was able to remove the personalized lettering on the back of the N1?
19.95$ back cover on ebay (real one)
The engraving isn't on the back cover, it's on the metal chassis.
Can you not buy a replacement chassis?
Sure you can, but they're not cheap, and I suspect it's a fair bit of work to swap the parts over.
First, it is important to note that the "engraving" is NOT actually engraved in, as some people here seem to believe.
It is merely silk-screened on.
As for removing it, I would suggest a mild abrasive, like tooth paste, and rubbing it with a cotton cloth... it will probably take a lot of elbow grease, but it should work!*
*Note: not responsible if you damage your phone or kill your loved ones with this method.

can't say its silkscreen for sure. i took a look under the microscope and its retains the same texture as the rest of the aluminum... silkscreened letterings SHOULD have a different, smooth texture.

yeah i do feel a slight bump. so i'm led to think its silkscreen or laser etched, leaning more towards laser etching... which means im stuck.

i think i may actually do this in the end. i was suggested to use "contact cleaner" as it deoxides materials... but thats precisely what anodized aluminum is... a thicker layer of colored aluminum oxide. it may just strip it all down to the bare aluminum... argh thinking out loud.
I have heard from someone who have tried the same thing known as Contact Cleaner. Haven't tried personally so can't say for certain but hey, what's the harm in trying it out? I don't have any personalization otherwise would have tried it out.

really. contact cleaner can really get the thing off? i should try and get my hands on some then, rather than spending $60+ for a new housing. was thinking of sand blasting the whole thing too... and painting it all back. lol. all black nexus.......

Please don't do this.
just sand down the aluminum until it is flush with the rest of it, then use different grades of paper until it is smooth
I don't exactly know how close to perfect you can make it, but it's better then sandblasting it.

I am 99% sure it is silk-screened on, in a similar manner to the Google and HTC logos on the back.

[Q] dirty white band

Anyone else who goes caseless have their white plastic bands on the back get dirty? If so what did you use to clean it?
Thanks
Ive used LCD cleaning wipes for both the One & the One X I used to have with pretty good success.

Another person said rubbing alcohol for tough spot haven't tried it but it's generally safe for plastic as it comes in a plastic bottle!
I used a q-tip and pulled all the cotton off so I just had the hard stick, then dipped the tip of that in rubbing alcohol and that let my apply pressure and get it looking perfect again.
But my job gets a lot of oil on my hands so it could depend on what you think is building up on it, for instance that wouldn't work as well for an architect who got a lot of graphite on it...
A small amount of 409 cleaner on a rag works amazingly.

Cleaning the Nexus 6

Hey guys and gals, I've got a midnight blue nexus 6 and I've noticed that the back of it is really bad for holding oily residue and finger prints. Does anyone know what we can use to clean it?? I want to keep my device as good as new, I was thinking about getting a clear skin BUT I wasn't sure if the adhesive could ruin the back!? HELP!
i use an alcohol pad and a bounty paper towel
I just use the back of my shirt. Device looks brand new lol
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Before my phone came in, I heard the back was prone to fingerprints and oil. So as soon as my phone came, the first thing I did was put my dbrand skin on the back. No fingerprints, no oil.
The adhesive from the skin will not ruin the device, I looked into this a lot before my purchase. When you take the skin off, there will be zero trace of any adhesive. Its a special thing used, I forgot what's its called.

It shouldn't...
As long as you use the alcohol you can buy at the pharmacy... Its been slightly diluted to keep from burning your skin...
Do not use acetone, lacquer thinner, or nail polish remover
I search the forums and realize there already is a thread on this so I wouldn't create a second thread.
