Can I Polish the touch screen? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

My front screen has lots of scratches on it. Can I use plastic buffer polish and polish them out? What will the impact be?
What is a Digitizer?
My sceen also looks like it has speckles inside it, from being dropped, any way to fix this?

Digitizer is a part of the screen which makes the screen touch sensitive.

Dude... haven't you heard of screen protectors? I believe other than changing your whole lcd screen, there is no way to buff the scratches away. and you mentioned that you dropped your diamond numerous times? Bro, the ppc is a very delicate device. I think you need to go to the service center to get it checked...

Digitizers are usually made of glass, and the scratched part of the surface is usually a gasket-like protective plastic.
Fortunately replacing the protective layer is *usually* trivial, but honestly your best bet is as the above poster stated, you need a service center.

Thanks for the info

i had some scratches, i read in another topic that rubbing toothpaste and a piece of banana over your screen helps... well.. it really DOES (a little bit) BUT it will mess up the glossy look a little

Hahahha!
i used black paint, then used petrol to rub it off. Unfortunately my friend lit up a cigar then KABOOOM happened and now i have no phone
I didnt even have the pleasure of rubbing a banana on it
The moral of the story is, before you accidentally blow your phone up, atleast rub a banana on it. It might smell better when it burns ;P

Paint rubbing off on corner

My phone is a couple of weeks old and the paint on one corner has already rubbed (or has been scratched) off leaving the shiny aluminum exposed. Has anyone else got this issue or have any bright ideas to restore the matt black color? I tried a Sharpie but it didn't stick.

Humm, this is worrying. I hope it's a fluke
Got a spot of aluminium as well in the top left corner.
Only 1mm in diameter, but still... not too good after about 10 days of use.
WoW... I hope these are just two isolated cases, or some bad serie...
Believe me, if this happens to mine, it will be the very last time I buy a HTC. You can write my words in stone.
HastaSSSS
Not good news!! I had this same problem with my HTC 3600P... it looked like crap after 6 months... crap black finish rubs off easy.. specially if in a humid country like jamaica.. really really bad news for the diamond! thanks guys.. will keep a close eye on it and try and get a case of it ASAP.
C
I have also got paint rubbing off both top corners, it's slowly getting worse. Not happy!!! Few weeks old. Any body know a good paint match? Think I could fix it..
Im sure that having your keys and coins in the same pocket with your phone it will get scratched.
Can't make out the corners of mine through the fingerprints even though every night I wipe my fingers on my jeans after my chips! What about proper Indian ink?
I had to something about it on mine...
Fine/Ultra Fine Black Sharpie Permanent Marker has done the job..
...does NOT sound good, I had this problem with my Trinity and it really looked a mess. I hope HTC read this post and maybe.... even say something about it? or would i be dreaming?
some pictures maybe?

Forget the Sharpie people it comes off in 2 days!!...
same has happened to mine, metal finish has worn off on top right corner, have tried permanent marker and also a little tin of humbrol satin black enamel paint which worked the best, but even that rubs off!!! gotta say im dissapointed with the finish of the phone, my touch dual still looks new after 6 months.
Hmm you made me pretty worry
I already ordered my diamond and I'm expecting it within 10 days ... I already ordered Overlay plus for the screen and front buttons and Invisible shield for the back and sides.. I was not planning to apply the invisible shield from day one but after what you guys wrote I think I will...

My wife put it in her purse with a bunch of keys, but luckily it is only the screen protector. I can't blame her for the paint however, that was all me.
Playing ball with my Diamond wasn't one of the functions on the phone that I was aware of. Does the G sensor help you hit better?
we need a rubber case!!!
Oh no... this happend to me to my old wizard, but the paint lasted for at least 6 months before scratching. I hope my $700 phone has a good paint Job.

Crack on upper part of Diamond

Did you guys notice there is a crack on the upper face of the phone right above the ear speaker and the small camera?
Well the thing is that if you carry your baby around in your pocket then its highly probable that a lot of crud and dirt will get stuck in that little crack.
So cleaning the crack at least once a week with a needle or something would be great maintenance.
Cheers boys.

Ummm - nope! No crack here. None that I can see with my bare eye, at least.
Cant see no crack on mine either...unless your talking about the gap between the body of the phone and the screen??..if so thats normal, every Diamond is like that and i suppose in time it will gather some crud and dirt there but then you can either clean it out or get a case that would cover that part.

anyway, using a needle it is not recommended. why not with a plastic or wooden toothpick?
If you do it carefully your OK.

Do you have OCD? (obsessive cleaning disorder)

I have it. Its kinda bad, and good at the same time. When I washed up in the morning, I must vacuum our it bothers me.
When I am in the car, if there is too many drinks/bottles, I have to throw them away.
When I am at my desk, everything has to be straight and minimal stuff on it. Maybe like a water bottle and a cable, but that's pushing it.
Even my desktop (computer) is clean all I have on my desktop is the recycle bin and whatever projects I am working on.
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant using the xda-developers app.
I just did the hoovering and cleaned up a bit Haha

I guess the stereotypes about Mods are that they are lazy. ;D Just got done organizing some stuff.
I have a habit of polishing the glass screen on my hero with a microfibre cloth a lot... does that count? It does still look nice despite being almost a year old...

Same Here I dont even use a screen protector I just treat it well
I've always had a minimal OCD attitude, but ARMY Basic Training sure as hell fixed that.. due to everything having to be 10,000% organized...
Now, when it comes to home, I usually only go OCD on the rooms I access the most (except for my desk area)... Living Room, Kitchen, Office, and my Bedroom.
BUT :: When it comes to my phone(s)... I'm very OCD... possibly too much. I buy new screen protectors for each device atleast twice a month, I despise smudges, so I RARELY actually touch my screen with my fingers. And even when I'm holding my main phone, I always have a cleaning cloth between my palm and the phone. It's actually quite sad.
I am also OCD with my my phone too. Every time I see a smudge on it, I wipe it, right away. I also own about 10+ microfiber clothes for my computer, phone, and iPad.
Once I get done eating, I don't touch my phone, I must clean my hands before I even take it out my pocket.
Whenever my friends ask to see my phone, I ask if there hands are greasy/dirty. I rarely give it to them because of fear they might break it.
When I had my iPhone, I had 4 cases because none of them were good enough to protect.
I am also going to order a tough case from Case-Mate, since my barely there isn't protecting much.
I ordered some Realooks when I first got my phone, since I didn't want to scratch them phone.
That's my story of OCDness. yay

There's no need for a screen protector on most of the new hTC's with glass screens (hero etc). So I just polish the fingerprints off with my m'fibre cloth
There was an awesome youtube video of a guy attacking his hero with a stanley knife... No damage even after attacking it with the knife, a bunch of keys, an some coins

[Q] Removing the AT&T logo

Hi guys,
Has anyone tried to remove the silver AT&T logo from behind the glass? Thinking about giving it a go but thought I would check to see if anyone else had given it a shot and had any pointers.
Thanks,

i take no responsibilty for this, but I used paint thinner(gun wash actually seeing as I work at a paint shop lol) and rubbed it off my old phone, quite easily actually.
I personally would try that before spray paint...
Get a cover that covers it
U can't see the logo this way, and u r still covered by warranty just in case.
Be careful with 'paint thinner', there is more than one kind. I'd start with rubbing alcohol, then acetone, progress to mineral spirits, then if that doesn't work try some MEK(methyl ethyl ketone). You can quickly melt away any plastics or finishes if you use too strong a product first time out.

[Q]How to remove engraving?

hey, i was wondering if any one was successful in removing their engravings off the back of the nexus one..... i bought mine cheap second hand, but i can't seem to get the engravings off... thanks!
Maybe if you look up in the dictionary of what "engrave" means you'll find your answer. Then again is it possible to un-grave something? Put a cute little sticker over it or something.
Die grinder.
plastic filler
superfine sandpaper
paint
cover engravings with the filler
let it dry
sand down the filler until it's flush with the rest of the phone
wipe off with a wet rag (let dry after)
paint
depending on your painting skills you can make it look halfway decent. You won't make it like new though. The only way to make it not like terrible would be to paint the entire part of the phone where it is engraved. Since the engravings are on the chrome, looks like a whole body job to me.
Good Luck
Update:
Also, seriously you can't google? You do own their phone...

Toothpaste or Chocolate to wear it down.

sorry, engrave may not be the correct word to use. this is probably laser etching. i'm talking about the etching that google did for people who wanted to customize their phones.

anyone else who was able to remove the personalized lettering on the back of the N1?
19.95$ back cover on ebay (real one)
The engraving isn't on the back cover, it's on the metal chassis.
Can you not buy a replacement chassis?
Sure you can, but they're not cheap, and I suspect it's a fair bit of work to swap the parts over.
First, it is important to note that the "engraving" is NOT actually engraved in, as some people here seem to believe.
It is merely silk-screened on.
As for removing it, I would suggest a mild abrasive, like tooth paste, and rubbing it with a cotton cloth... it will probably take a lot of elbow grease, but it should work!*
*Note: not responsible if you damage your phone or kill your loved ones with this method.

can't say its silkscreen for sure. i took a look under the microscope and its retains the same texture as the rest of the aluminum... silkscreened letterings SHOULD have a different, smooth texture.

yeah i do feel a slight bump. so i'm led to think its silkscreen or laser etched, leaning more towards laser etching... which means im stuck.

i think i may actually do this in the end. i was suggested to use "contact cleaner" as it deoxides materials... but thats precisely what anodized aluminum is... a thicker layer of colored aluminum oxide. it may just strip it all down to the bare aluminum... argh thinking out loud.
I have heard from someone who have tried the same thing known as Contact Cleaner. Haven't tried personally so can't say for certain but hey, what's the harm in trying it out? I don't have any personalization otherwise would have tried it out.

Please don't do this.
just sand down the aluminum until it is flush with the rest of it, then use different grades of paper until it is smooth
I don't exactly know how close to perfect you can make it, but it's better then sandblasting it.
