[Q] Q: Simultaneous use of two APNs [Froyo 2.2.1] - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is this possible to have two email accounts using different APNs for synchronizing emails?
In particular I'd like to have my google account to synchronize via "regular" internet APN while my work (Exchange active sync) to synchronize via different, dedicated work APN.
I was able to configure both APNs, but when I select one (in config -> comm -> internet apn) only one of the accounts gets sunchronized (and when I switch the selection only the other account gets synchronized).
I WinMo I was able to indicate which email schould synchronise via which APN and I was able to have both APN active at the same time, and everything was fine* meaning both account were synchronizing in parallel.
Can something like this be set up on Froyo?
Any help/suggestion is very welcome...

Email "error syncronizing"

my email on my Tilt keeps showing an error syncronizing message i cant send or receive email and i get that message when i hit the send/receive option, i have my email setup though gmial and outlook, any suggestions on fixing this?
Hmmm, sounds like something is wrong in the connections if I had to guess. I'd go back thru the setup (try this for the Gmail setup first), and when you get to the Outgoing Server settings, select the Advanced Server Settings and make sure the network connection is configured correctly - mine is set to connect to The Internet and it works fine. Also, do you always have this problem, or is it only with certain connections (wifi, activesync, GPRS/3G, etc.)?
I had this same problem after flashing my rom. Go into the Settings>Connection tab and make sure it is connecting thru the internet using MediaNet or My Connection. Click the advanced tab>select networks. The modem should be Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)- Access Point: wap.cinguar, User Name: [email protected], Password: CINGULAR1, Domain Field: blank. Advanced... >TCP/IP: first and last boxes checked (leave servers tab untouched).
Also if you are able to surf through Internet Explorer or MediaNet but cannot send/receive Emails. You should follow the directions from the above post since it's correct. Find the messaging feature. It should have a "Select and Account" screen. Click on Menu>Options- Look for your email service on the list, click on it. Make sure all your login info is correct. OUTGOING (SMTP) mail server for AOL is : cwmx.com, both boxes checked on that screen. Then click Advanced Server Settings. Network Connection: should be set to MEdiaNet or your primary connnection. CLICK DONE!
Let me know if this helps

sending mail via IMAP not possible

Hi @ all,
does anyone have also problems with sending mails via IMAP?
My configuration: 1.93.207.2 ROM (O2 germany)
For mail settings I set up two mail accounts (in my diamond) to the same private mailserver. One with POP3 access and one with IMAP. Receiving mails works with both accounts. Sending only with that POP3 account.
Hence it could not be an issue with the data connection settings.
I want to use only the IMAP account, but during mail sending i got the error message "mail could not be send. please check network or account settings" or similar.
I'm wondering, because both accounts use the same setting excepting the accounttype.
With my old Tytn is was working fine...
So, is here any experiance with this problem?
many thx

I have no proxy settings active. In both use cases i use identical network connection settings.
That's why I'm wondering.

I use IMAP with Gmail and need to put a different server in for outgoing mail + enable SSL.
Do you need a different server for IMAP?

No, they are also the same (it even doesnt matter in case of using POP3).
after flshing to original HTC ROM all was working fine.
IMAP is only for receiving like pop3 is
both mail accounts use smtp for sending

Email connection problem

Hi
I've been trying to setup an IMAP account on the built in email. But can't seem to connect to it, it says:
"Cannot connect to the incoming mail server. Be certain that your login information is correct, then try again to send and receive email"
But I'm definitely sure all email account info is correct.
Wierd thing is, when I go back to the email Accounts setup, I notice the password there rather than ******* 7 characters long password it is like ********************** 20 characters long. I've tried changing back to the real password, but still don't work and if I check the Accounts setup again, the password, again shows really long like ***********************
I've tried accessing my IMAP email account through the internet on the phone via Opera, and that's working OK.
Any ideas?
Mmmm...
Can't really help you with your settings, but I can answer one question for you. The masked password is always a long string of ****'s. This is so no one can guess the actual number of characters in your password.
I've never set up an IMAP account, as I use POP3. I had an issue years ago when I was first trying to figure out how to set email up on these things, but I'd just got the incoming pop address wrong. I went on the internet and Googled the proper settings. Sorry I can't be of any more help
During the email set up there is a link for Advanced Server Settings. There there are settings for Require SSL for Incoming/Outgoing email. You might try toggling those. It depends on the IMAP server setup. Which IMAP server are you trying to connect to? I run my own IMAP server. The difference between IMAP and IMAPS (i.e. with SSL) is that you connect on a different port. If your IMAP server only accepts IMAPS then it's listening on one port but you're asking on another.
I've noticed that the email doesn't work when using activesync for network, but it's fine if using WiFi for example.
Actually, the problem is probably Activesync itself, as I have network problems with it... Activesync seems unable to remember proxy settings, its like it works after the initial setup , for a few minutes, then any proxies that were setup there are gone a few minutes later, just dissappears and consequently the network won't work anymore until I manually set it up again

Did AT&T Medianet settings changed past few days

For past 2 months I was successfully able to get my 4 (Exchange, Yahoo, Gmail) accounts working but for past 5 days I cannot get emails accounts like Yahoo or Gmail to connect using Medianet.
I even tried manually imported the Medianet settings using CAB file from XDA.
I have gone through following ROMs in the last 5 days.
STOCK AT&T
Phoenix III
DJ Koa
Jack's V2.6 Lite
In flashing to each new ROM I ensure flashing to stock followed by radio and then the new ROM.
The Exchange ActiveSync connects fine but Gmail and others work for a day using the automatically discovered Medianet and then show an error.
Unable to Conenct using Existing Connections.
I am going nuts trying to figure out what changed. Any advise would be appreciated.

Moved to general as not ROM Development.

As far as I am aware of AT&T has not changed the settings at all. It may be something in your area. Have you tried calling att to see if they are having issues in your area?
Mine work
I use Media Net on my phone too, but I don't have Exchange set up. I only use POP3 for Yahoo and Hotmail and the both work. I'm not sure but would assume Gmail would work too as long as it uses IMAP or POP3. I did a quick search and brought this up and it seems to be pretty much how I have mine set up. One difference though, I don't configure or select the proxy server, I leave that blank.

Problem Fixed
I started searching the forums with the error message and came across this gem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359139
Advanced tab
Selecy Networks
Click the drop down, Media net should be fine
Now hit that drop down and goto my isp
And you have to change the APN to wap.cingular << CHANGED FROM ISP.CINGULAR in My ISP keeping the rest of the settings the same
then on the username/pass screen
username: [email protected]
password: CINGULAR1
domain leave blank and hit OK
and VIOLA!!!
Back in business
So it turns out changing ISP.CINGULAR (default Medianet settings in ROMs) to WAP.CINGULAR in ISP settings was what was needed.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.
Happy and Exhausted,
Gurvinder Singh
In your Settings>Connections screen click on Connections, then click on the Advanced tab. Change your Select Networks to use "MEdia Net" as opposed to "My ISP". The settings have not changed since Cingular, probably because there are too many customers to notify of the change. Also, when you click Edit... after selecting "MEdia Net" from the drop-down, I have "This network connects to the Internet" checked, but the proxy server check-box cleared. I could not get my POP3 email with it checked. You can also check your GPRS Settings. Mine is on PAP authentication. I don't know if changing it will help, but just a thought.
that fixed it for me
I was having the same problem described. I unchecked the proxy button and now it connects. thanks

HELP! Problem creating an exchange mail account

hi all,
I have some strange issue creating a new mail account, an MS Exchange one.
I follow the Diamond's owner's manual chapter 7, I set my address and password (next) clear the "get setting automatically" (next) and then I should be able to choose e-mail provider type to be exchange, but the only 2 options I have are "internet e-mail" and "custom domain" both bringing me to imap/smpt etc settings and not the exchange ones -> consequently the account fails to connect to the server and fails to synch.
I'm not sure if it is important, but my Diamond has no problem synching with my local Outlook, so the failure is with the server connection.
The connections I tried were both WiFi and USB,
Rom 2.03
Radio 1.09
PLEASE HELP.
